The webinar focuses on establishing common practices for translating the technical parameters of performance and reliability into financial terms. The high potential of Energy Efficiency Obligation (EEO) schemes under article 7 of the Energy Efficiency Directive (called “Energy Savings Obligation” in the Commission’s Clean Energy Package) in the achievement of energy efficiency targets is widely recognised.
However, in the current form EEOs do not get the most out of this potential. In addition, the scope of application of EEOs should be widened to include measures in all energy using sectors and to include some of the potentially more complex energy saving measures that offer significant savings potentials.
ECI advocates the idea of establishing a toolbox of technical energy saving measures for EU Member States, including simplified measurement & verification protocols that offer a reasonable degree of certainty and comparability of the target achievements of the MS. This report by Ecofys analyses which building-related measures are the most relevant in terms of energy savings and could provide best practices and a potential template for future measures.
As selecting energy efficiency measures to be on the standard list is, ultimately, the decision of the individual member states, this report aims at providing insight into why member states and obliged parties would benefit by promoting selected measures as a standard measure.

Solar energy projects may underperform for various reasons, and identifying these factors is crucial for optimizing the efficiency and output of solar installations. Majority of the installations in India are i.e. more than 70% of the projects studied by us are underperforming i.e. the PR is below 75% or generation has fallen below 1300 kWh/kWp/year.

In today's power grids, transformers represent a significant capital investment and play a crucial role in the reliability of the grid and the availability of electric power. It is the task of the asset or plant manager to safeguard reliability and control risks at limited cost. The asset management instruments that may be used, in increasing order of effectiveness and cost, are monitoring, maintenance, refurbishment and replacement.
Asset management has moved from "doing the best we can" to "doing what is necessary to maintain the balance between performance, cost and risk, given the company business values". This paradigm shift has changed the way replacement decisions are being taken. On the basis of company business values, risks are being identified and assessed, from the combination of failure probability and impact. Decisions are based on the hazard risk score (urgency) and on the risk reduction capability of the mitigating measure (effectiveness), and are dependent on the company's risk appetite.
Whereas replacement alternatives are often attractive for high power transformers due to the relatively high cost of replacement, this situation is quite different for distribution transformers. Distribution transformers are often regarded as commodities. They are relatively inexpensive and can be delivered off stock. Therefore alternatives for replacement need to be low cost, and thereby effective, efficient and standardized. As a result such alternatives are at present often cost effective only on a fleet scale, and too expensive for individual transformers. This situation may change when alternative solutions such as monitoring devices will be integrated as a low cost commodity in new distribution transformers.

Through a comparative analysis approach and eight weeks of data collection, the study addressed key research questions related to solar radiation patterns and optimal system design. The findings highlighted regions with heightened solar radiation levels, showcasing substantial potential for power generation and emphasizing the system's efficiency. Optimizing system design significantly boosted power generation, promoted renewable energy utilization, and enhanced energy storage capacity. The study underscored the benefits of optimizing hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems for sustainable energy usage. Optimizing the design of solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems as examined across diverse climatic conditions in a developing country, not only enhances power generation but also improves the integration of renewable energy sources and boosts energy storage capacities, particularly beneficial for less economically prosperous regions. Additionally, the study provides valuable insights for advancing energy research in economically viable areas. Recommendations included conducting site-specific assessments, utilizing advanced modeling tools, implementing regular maintenance protocols, and enhancing communication among system components.
