Community Perspectives on Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) in IndiaJSI
India accounts for the largest number of neonatal deaths globally, and causes related to preterm birth and low-birth weigh represent about 35% of neonatal mortality. Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is a critical, low-cost intervention to reduce adverse outcomes in low birth or preterm infants. The government of India tested the feasibility and acceptance of KMC in select locations prior to a national rollout per the India Newborn Action Plan.

This study examined the relationship between caregiver intervention and toddlers' motor skill improvement. 29 toddlers aged 2.5 years old participated in an 8-week motor skills program at 2 daycare centers. The program involved 3 brief motor skill activities per day led by caregivers at one center but not the other. Results showed toddlers who received caregiver intervention significantly improved their kicking, jumping, and other gross motor skills, while those without intervention showed little improvement. The study demonstrated that brief daily caregiver involvement can positively impact toddlers' developing motor abilities.

This document summarizes Phase 1 of the Pioneer Baby quality improvement initiative which aims to improve pregnancy and birth outcomes in rural western Kansas. Phase 1 involved a health assessment of 185 rural women through surveys to obtain information on risk factors like weight, diet, exercise and family history. Key findings included that over half the women were overweight or obese prior to pregnancy, most did little to no moderate physical activity daily, and nearly a third had a family member with diabetes. Future phases will include an on-site prenatal clinic, focus groups to inform a health promotion program, and implementing an intervention to lower risks and improve outcomes.

Prenatal testing to detect genetic flaws to be launchedNursing Hi Nursing
A new non-invasive prenatal testing method is being launched in India that can detect chromosomal and genetic disorders like Down syndrome through a blood test of the mother, avoiding the risks of invasive testing. Currently 32,000 babies with Down syndrome are born in India each year. A study of 500 pregnant women found the new method was safer and could qualify as an advanced screening option. The testing identifies cell-free fetal DNA in the mother's blood and will help detect intellectual disabilities and other potential diseases in children.
This document describes a cluster randomized controlled trial that assessed the effectiveness of training family doctors to deliver brief interventions addressing excessive substance use in young patients aged 15-24. 600 young patients were recruited from 32 family practices randomized to an intervention or control arm. Doctors in the intervention arm received 5 hours of training in brief intervention techniques. The trial found no evidence that the brief interventions reduced excessive substance use at 3, 6, or 12-month follow-ups compared to the control arm among those who were excessive substance users at baseline. However, the study suggests primary care physicians may still play a role in modifying young people's substance use trajectories over the long term.

This randomized controlled trial examined the effectiveness of a case manager delivered HIV prevention intervention called Preventing AIDS Through Health (PATH) for people with severe mental illness (SMI) and substance abuse issues. 281 participants were assigned to receive either the PATH intervention or treatment as usual. The PATH intervention improved condom use and skills and reduced drug use compared to the control group. While the rapport between case managers and clients did not mediate these effects, case managers were able to effectively deliver the HIV prevention intervention. The results suggest comprehensive treatment for SMI should include discussions of sexuality and safer sexual practices.

The document discusses the goals, principles, trends and issues related to paediatric nursing. The main goals of paediatric nursing are to provide comprehensive care to children, interpret their needs to families, promote growth and development, and prevent disease. Key principles include family-centered care, atraumatic care, case management, and evidence-based practice. Current trends involve increased family involvement, less traumatic interventions, coordinated care management, and advanced technology. Issues include ethical, legal, conceptual, cultural and social challenges as well as research concerns. The role of paediatric nurses is expanding beyond direct caregiving to include health education, counseling, advocacy, and leadership.
This study aimed to examine infant feeding practices and their determinants in District Aligarh, India. 354 mothers of children aged 6 months to 5 years were interviewed using a questionnaire. The results showed that only 29.7% of infants were breastfed within 1 hour of birth and 41.24% were exclusively breastfed for 6 months. Mothers who lived in urban areas, had antenatal care visits, received breastfeeding advice during pregnancy, and delivered at institutions were more likely to have optimal breastfeeding practices. The study concluded that improving antenatal care, health education during pregnancy, and institutional deliveries could promote better infant feeding in the district.
Mothers And Clinicians Perspectives On Breastfeeding Counseling During Routin...Biblioteca Virtual
This document summarizes a study examining breastfeeding counseling provided during routine preventive visits from the perspectives of both mothers and their clinicians. The study involved surveying 429 mother-newborn pairs and their 121 obstetric and pediatric clinicians. The results identified several areas of disagreement between what mothers reported discussing with clinicians regarding breastfeeding duration, continuation after returning to work, and specific advice provided, highlighting potential unintentional gaps in communication around breastfeeding counseling during routine visits.
Innovations in Breastfeeding and Breastmilk Feeding in the NICULeith Greenslade
Can "Lactation Scorecards" drive up low rates of breastmilk feeding in NICUs? Low rates of breastfeeding and breastmilk feeding among sick and vulnerable newborns contribute to low survival rates and poor development outcomes. Medela has developed a new tool that enables NICUs to set new targets and measure their performance - The NICU Lactation Care Scorecard.
This document discusses thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder passed down through genes from parents to children. It requires lifelong blood transfusions, increased medical costs, and limited activity for sufferers. Being a carrier of thalassemia itself has no effects, but there is a 25% risk with each pregnancy if two carriers marry and have a child. Prevention programs through education, population screening, and counseling of carriers and carrier couples on family planning options have been successful in reducing rates. However, thalassemia remains a challenge in Indonesia due to diversity of mutations, asymptomatic cases, underdiagnosis, and lack of knowledge. Rotary clubs are working to increase awareness and screening through social media campaigns, community events, and
Challenges in Breastfeeding and Breastmilk Feeding in NICUs in IndiaLeith Greenslade
Little is known about rates of breastfeeding and breastmilk feeding in NICUs in low and middle income settings. Access Health International has joined forces with three tertiary referral hospitals in the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in India to document newborn nutrition in their NICUs. The results are important and make a strong case for more investment in this neglected area of child nutrition.
This document provides an overview of a study exploring eating behaviors in 3-5 year old children attending early childhood education and care. The study uses a qualitative approach with two case studies at different childcare centers to describe mealtime experiences, observe interactions between educators and children during meals, and interview educators, children, and parents about perspectives on mealtimes. Results of the ongoing analysis seek to understand how mealtimes occur in early childhood education settings and how this environment influences childhood eating behaviors.
This study assessed home management of acute diarrheal disease among children under 5 in an urban slum in India. The study found:
1) Around 80% of mothers were illiterate and had low incomes. Water sources were unsafe.
2) Over 250 cases of diarrhea in children under 5 were identified in the past 2 weeks.
3) Mothers' knowledge of danger signs, oral rehydration salts preparation, and appropriate home fluids was inadequate. Health seeking behavior also needed improvement.
4) Improving health education for mothers and caregivers on early home management of childhood diarrhea was recommended.

ADHD medication and substance related problemsHasan Ismail
This study used a large U.S. health claims database to examine the association between ADHD medication treatment and substance-related problems. The results showed that: 1) ADHD patients were more likely to experience substance issues than controls, but medication reduced this risk; 2) Patients had lower odds of substance problems during months taking medication; and 3) Male patients on long-term medication had lower substance risk, though benefits were less clear for females. The study provides evidence that ADHD medication does not increase, and may decrease, risks of substance problems.

Picot Question: How do the new practical approaches in the diagnosis and management help in the reduction of obesity issues as compared to the lack of reliance on the traditional approaches (diet and exercise)?
Background
Childhood obesity is considered to be a major international growing problem. Even though there is a high rate of obesity cases in the United States and other regions of the world for the past 30 years, there is still a lack of clear treatment approaches to be applied to reduce this incidence. Healthcare providers are lacking ideas on where they should find approaches related to the guidance and the process of managing the healthcare services to about one-third of the population who are affected by the healthcare issues associated with obesity. The Pediatric Obesity Algorithm is now considered to be an evidence-based approach in terms of diagnosing and managing childhood obesity. The authors of this study aimed at providing a summary of the topics from the Pediatric Obesity Algorithm related to the diagnosis of pediatric obesity, assessment, and management. Other tasks include the performance of differential diagnosis, reviewing the systems, diagnosis of the workup, physical examinations, management of age-specific, and the treatment of the associated weight gain. The outcome of this study will, therefore, help in the identification and treatment of children with obesity through using the Pediatric Obesity Algorithm which serves as a guide to healthcare providers with evidence-based approaches to the diagnosis process and managing obesity in children and offering families with the tools they require to ensure that there is healthy future.
How the article is supporting the topic
The article above is talking about some of the present gaps concerning the management and treatment of obesity among children. Through identifying that there is an absence of clear treatment approaches that can be relied on the treat and manage obesity among children, the authors of this article proposed that the Pediatric Obesity Algorithm can be successful in providing evidence-based approaches for diagnosing and amanging childhood obesity. Therefore, Pediatric Obesity Algorithm can be considered as a new approach in managing and diagnosisng obesity among children as compared to the traditional methods that involve watching the diet and exercise which is sometimes not followed by children. Pediatric Obesity Algorithm approach is helping in ensuring that there is a proper physical examination, age-specific management, use of medication and surgery, and performance of differential diagnosis among other procedures that are performed in this approach.

Summary of Clinical Issue (200-250 words):
Childhood obesity is one of the problems that affect the United States and other developed economies. Obesity among children and youths is widely recognized as an issue that generates a lot of adverse health impacts. For instance, childhood obesity is a major indicator of future mental and physical health problems. In spite of the highest rates of childhood obesity in the country in the last three decades, obesity has been linked to other more serious health problems such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. As nurses and other health professionals continue to grapple with this problem, there are still no clear treatment approaches. Health professionals usually do not have a comprehensive guideline on where to manage the nearly one-third of their populations who present the medical care with obesity that coexists with other medical conditions and problems. Numerous treatment models have been proposed to address this rising public health concern. These approaches often include use of the traditional interventions such as pharmacological interventions. However, overemphasis on one treatment intervention may fail to generate the desired objectives. While the traditional strategies to obesity prevention and management have placed emphasis on medications, wider attention to other dimensions of treatment is necessary. Such treatment interventions may include the multi-tiered or holistic strategies that incorporate both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. For instance, a wider focus should incorporate practices such as assessing the mental health impacts of obesity on the patients. Thus, a public health multi-tiered approach to obesity that emphasizes on promotion, prevention, and individualized interventions are recommended.
PICOT Question: Is the use of multi-tiered approach to the treatment and management of childhood obesity more effective than overreliance on only pharmacological interventions in reducing obesity prevalence rates?

The document discusses interventions to help reduce childhood obesity. It notes that 30.6% of Americans are obese and interventions can help kids lose weight in a cost effective manner by teaching them healthy behaviors and increasing physical activity. One intervention study had kids increase good food choices and physical activity, resulting in weight loss for 21% of participants over a year. Interventions are proven methods to help kids learn lifelong healthy habits and reduce future health risks from obesity.
This document discusses the relationship between childhood obesity and asthma. It suggests that childhood obesity likely contributes to the development of asthma, rather than the other way around. The onset and duration of obesity, as well as the composition of excess body fat, can affect lung function and increase the risk of asthma. While there is a known link between the two conditions in children, more evidence is needed to determine the direction of influence.
Weight problems; it has been associated with increased risk of coronary disease, type 2 diabetes and even some cancers. Now, for initially, researchers claim that obesity also can speed up aging with the liver.
The FDA has approved the first prescription drug called Vyvanse to treat moderate to severe binge eating disorder in adults. While binge eating disorder only affects a portion of those with obesity, treating it may help with long-term success in behavioral weight-loss programs and following bariatric surgery. The drug is approved to treat BED but not for weight loss and should be used along with other obesity treatments.
The document discusses childhood obesity and the role of parents in preventing and treating it. It provides evidence from several studies that treating parents alone through education and lifestyle changes leads to better weight loss outcomes in children compared to only treating the children. Parents have significant influence over their child's diet, physical activity, and home environment. Therefore, new interventions should focus on empowering parents to create a healthy lifestyle for their families.
The document reviews several studies on nutrition interventions for children. It finds that parent-based interventions have the most positive influence on children's nutrition habits. Involving other aspects of children's lives, like their school environment, can also improve outcomes. The review concludes that public health must address all aspects of children's lives to effectively improve nutrition and potentially decrease obesity rates over the next five years.

Effects of unhealthy eating habits
Specific Aims
1). Concise statement of goals I would like to work with individuals experiencing health problems due to unhealthy eating habits, and inactivity. The purpose is to see if participants would agree to attend the program for 5 days to learn about healthy diet, food, exercise, food preparation, calorie count, and if they would use resources available to help them with their diet and exercise.
2). Novel Design
Chart #1: Displays the numbers of people eating fruits, vegetables, and consuming a low cal diet, vegetarians, dieters, unhealthy eaters
Chart #2: Displays the five categories that I will use to create manuals for participants to review to learn about the socio demographics, psychosocial knowledge and how beliefs attitudes and norms are part of self-efficacy and it establishes behavior patterns.

3). solve a specific problem
I would like to design a comprehensive program on a community or state level that addresses poor eating habits, poor nutrition, and physical inactivity. Within the State of Maryland we have a large amount of chronic diseases and death per year due to the poor diets that people have become comfortable with, and the lack of physical activity which also contributes to the high rates of sugar diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, and stroke. This is a serious matter when you think about it 1 out of 10 people suffer from one or more of the chronic diseases listed. I would like to have a facility where I can teaching people how to eat by using scales to measure the portion of meats, vegetables, fruits, measuring the amount of calories, carbohydrates, saturated fats, total fat, what foods to eat, how to prepare them. If I can encourage families to join us for a day to enjoy fun exercise activities, along with healthy meal made using fresh fruits and vegetables. Families will want to come again enthused to improve their dietary patterns and activities. Within this facility I would like a gym and track to allow them to exercise because this will boots their energy and if we meet with them three times a week to teach regular physical activity. The object is to show them how to improve their muscle strength and boost their endurance. The gym would afford them the resource needed to exercise. The exercise gives them great benefits to deliver oxygen and nutrients to their tissues and improve their cardiovascular system. The nutrition program and the exercise stem together would make this efficient. By showing participants end results that reflect a healthier heart and lung they will feel good an ...

Designing Community Health Services Based on the Community's Concept of Healt...JSI
This study aimed to provide guidance on programmatic efforts to strengthen counseling for infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices, prevention of malnutrition, and referral and treatment of malnourished children in the context of integrated Community Case Management (iCMM) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
It was found that understanding the health needs from the point of view of the community, both in terms of conceptualizing health problems and designing community-level services, is critical to addressing families' needs and ensuring utilization of services when integrating preventative and curative components of nutrition and child health services. These findings contributed to developing understandings of the interface between communities and health systems, and how the latter can learn from the former.

A new study suggests that feeding young children foods containing peanuts beginning in infancy can prevent many peanut allergies, rather than avoiding such foods as has been conventional wisdom. About 2% of American children are allergic to peanuts, a figure that has more than quadrupled since 1997. The study found that children who consumed foods containing peanuts regularly from 4-11 months were far less likely to develop a peanut allergy by age 5. An editorial called the results compelling and said guidelines should be revised to recommend early peanut introduction to help reverse the rising prevalence of peanut allergies.
The document discusses obesity rates in the UK, food labeling, and a study conducted on the relationship between nutritional knowledge, food purchasing habits, weight control, and well-being. It notes that obesity rates have risen significantly in the last decade. The study found that people actively trying to lose weight used food labels more and had a clearer understanding compared to a control group. Successful dieters also had higher well-being than those with repeated dieting failures. Increased food label usage was linked to making healthier food choices. The research supports previous findings that educating people on food labels benefits weight control more than the type of label itself.
A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Text Message Intervention on Preventio...ijtsrd
Background Obesity is perhaps the most prevalent form of malnutrition. As a chronic disease, prevalent in both developed and developing countries, and affecting the children as well as adults, it is now so common that is replacing the more traditional public health concerns including malnutrition. It is one of the most significant contributors to ill health. For industrialized countries, it has been suggested that such increase in body weight have been caused primarily by reduced levels of physical activity, rather than by changes in food intake or by other factors. Methods A quantitative experimental research was conducted among 60 obese adults. Clients meeting these inclusion criteria were divided into two groups of 30 members in each group. Out of 60 sample, 30 sample in experimental group and 30 sample in control group. A purposive sampling technique was used to select the samples. The purpose of the study was explained to the samples and written informed consent was obtained from them. The demographic graphic variables and clinical variables were collected by multiple choice questionnaire. Body Mass Index BMI for Pre test assessment was assessed in the 1st day of data collection both in the experimental group and control group. The Body Mass Index BMI level was assessed by measuring as the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in metres kg m2 . The text message intervention with motivational messages, exercise, foods to be taken and foods to be avoided was sent to the experimental group twice daily, for 14 days. The control group followed regular routine. The post test was conducted in control group and experimental group on the 14th day after text message intervention. Collected data were analysed by descriptive and inferential statistics. Result The result in the post test between the experimental and control group was found to be statistically significant at p 0.001 level, this clearly infers that text message intervention for prevention and management of obesity among adolescents in the experimental group was found to be effective than the adolescents with obesity in control group who follow regular activities and lifestyle habits. Sectional dentures for microstomia patients.pptxSatvikaPrasad
Microstomia, characterized by an abnormally small oral aperture, presents significant challenges in prosthodontic treatment, including limited access for examination, difficulties in impression making, and challenges with prosthesis insertion and removal. To manage these issues, customized impression techniques using sectional trays and elastomeric materials are employed. Prostheses may be designed in segments or with flexible materials to facilitate handling. Minimally invasive procedures and the use of digital technologies can enhance patient comfort. Education and training for patients on prosthesis care and maintenance are crucial for compliance. 1. HOW overcome with Obesity by Improving habits: Dr Manish Khaitan Advanced Laparoscopic
Surgeon obesity treatment Ahmedabad Gujarat India
Doctor. Manish Khaitan has successfully introduced these healthy habits within the homes of
low-income families within the urban, rural & tribal region.
One survey organization signed up 121 families with obese children, whose homes had TVs
within the room where the children slept. Among them, 59 families were assigned to some
control group – that they received information via the mail over the next six months concerning
healthy household habits. One other 62 families received in-home counseling about these
healthy routines.
Children in the input group increased their sleep with a half hour per day, reduced their TV
viewing by 1 hour per day, and decreased their body mass catalog (BMI) by 20 per cent.
Meanwhile, children in the control group saw a little decrease in sleep and a 20 percent
increase inside BMI.
The biggest limitation with this intervention approach, however, could possibly be its expense.
The analysts hired and trained several bilingual health educators, who conducted four visits and
four message or calls to the families. On the nationwide scale, this could constitute a pricey
means to get children to lose weight.
"This study shows the potential the household routines may include for childhood obesity
elimination, " Dr Manish khaitan. "It is possible that household routines are most beneficial in
promoting children's healthy weight when joined with a warm and responsive type of parent-child
interaction. "
The social support that originated in the repeated, one-on-one contact between researchers
and parents can be important.
The researchers noted which the intervention was not successful in getting parents to clear out
the TVs from the rooms where children had sex. However, the researchers speculated which
the reason was that, for 80 percent from the families, the children slept within the same room
as their own parents, and the parents have been unwilling to surrender his or her TV.
