Apparently, organizations want to quit with one thing — but have not yet stipulated what they desire instead. What is the objective that is pursued here? Only to get rid of Oracle? It will become clear why you should give a considerable thought about dropping Oracle, or any other vendors’ technology, when you’re not pleased with your current IT situation. You need to focus on the actual problems and objectives and define the suitable roadmap to fit your real needs. It turns out that the quest is usually for modernization and flexibility - and Oracle can very well be a part of that future. Organizations with decades of investment in Oracle technology sometimes (and increasingly) express a wish to move away from Oracle. In this session, we will first explore where the desire to move away from Oracle might come from. Then we describe what the term Oracle represents — more than 2.000 products on all layers in the technology stack and in different business areas. Finally, we map out what the ‘moving away from’ consists of: defining where you ‘move to’ and subsequently actually going there. It will become clear why you should give considerable thought about dropping Oracle, or any other vendors’ technology, when you’re not pleased with your current IT situation. Devops engineers have applied a great deal of creativity and energy to invent tools that automate infrastructure management, in the service of deploying capable and functional applications. For data-driven applications running on Apache Spark, the details of instantiating and managing the backing Spark cluster can be a distraction from focusing on the application logic. In the spirit of devops, automating Spark cluster management tasks allows engineers to focus their attention on application code that provides value to end-users. Using Openshift Origin as a laboratory, we implemented a platform where Apache Spark applications create their own clusters and then dynamically manage their own scale via host-platform APIs. This makes it possible to launch a fully elastic Spark application with little more than the click of a button. We will present a live demo of turn-key deployment for elastic Apache Spark applications, and share what we’ve learned about developing Spark applications that manage their own resources dynamically with platform APIs. The audience for this talk will be anyone looking for ways to streamline their Apache Spark cluster management, reduce the workload for Spark application deployment, or create self-scaling elastic applications. Attendees can expect to learn about leveraging APIs in the Kubernetes ecosystem that enable application deployments to manipulate their own scale elastically.

In a sentence, OpenStack provides open source software for building public and private clouds. What does that mean? We're a collection of open source projects written in Python that integrate to help organizations deploy and run clouds for computing, networking, and storage. Here at Rackspace many of our public cloud services are maintained in OpenStack, and we also offer Private Cloud configuration and management for customers to have OpenStack running for them in their data center or ours.
