Computer science teaches problem-solving skills that can be applied to many fields. It provides a new perspective on breaking down complex problems into logical steps. Learning to code also influences how some see cause-and-effect and debug issues in a methodical way. Some find that taking a step back to map out problems before coding is more useful than diving in blindly. For others, computer science was empowering as it allowed them to turn their imagination into a reality by programming machines. In the future, coding skills will be important for many careers as it is becoming a primary method of communication.

1. How has computer science changed the way you think?

Ann:
Computer science is basically problem-solving and that's a type of problem-solving that's broadly
applicable and you can use it in any area in which you're passionate. So, you can use computer
science in biology, entertainment, non-profit work, data analytics, the sky is the limit pretty much.
Emily:
I think that it really gives people different perspective on how they see problem solving. I know
there've been a lot of times in my life just on a day-to-day basis when there's something that seems
really kind of shapeless and ambiguous and I had been able to turn it into some kind of a mental
flowchart.
Bella:
Asana has been great to me. They let me work flexible hours so I can spend time with my baby
who happens to have awake time when it's regular work time, so I need to be more flexible there. I
think of cause-and-effect in my programs and debugging my programs and, when there's something
not wrong with them but they don't want to accept them and all, I try to debug them and figure it
out.
Zavain:
I think it's very easy to start coding right away when you've got a problem and start coding blindly .
You know, kind of thing you're about the solution but not necessarily see the path. And it's
exponentially more useful. You take a step back first and map out exactly what's the problem is.
And that's, you know, something you learn out of computer science.
Justin:
It was more of this attitude of "Here's something I would like to come into the world" originally
little games. And I knew there was something I can do that would cause this machine in front of me
to do the things that I want it to do. And that was very empowering, as a kid, to have that experience
of turning imagination into reality.
Brina:
In the future you are going to learn to code no matter what job you're in and no matter what
you do. That's the fastest communication tool that we have today.
