The document discusses how Nick Perkins' media project represents a particular social group. Specifically, it would represent "Emergent Service Workers," who are described as younger people who enjoy rock music, socializing with friends, and going to concerts. The document provides examples from Nick's magazine, including the front cover featuring an interview subject, contents page, and double page article spread, comparing design elements to other magazines to showcase how it represents its target demographic.
I conducted this research to generate ideas for my magazine ancillary task and to identify the elements of a magazine spread featuring a film review, that create a professional style.
The 'Global Zinc Mining to 2020' report comprehensively covers historical and forecast data on global zinc mine production to 2020, production by major countries and reserves by grade and geographic region, historic and forecast refined zinc consumption and zinc prices. This brief essay reviews the macro framework of oil and economy in Mexico in the early days of the oil industry, from 1900 to1938. The first section displays the figures
of production at the world level and shows how Mexico become a major oil producer in the 1920s. The second section look at the Mexican economy of the first third of the
century followed by a third section on the importance of the oil sector in terms of trade and fiscal income. The last section reviews the literature and the outlooks of the
contemporaries over the development of the oil industry in the early part of the 20th century. The paper will be of use for those producing in depth analyses of the Mexican oil industry in this period.
Venezuela Ranks As One Of The Top Suppliers Of Crude Oil Dvinz Oil & Gas,S.A
Venezuela is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of crude oil. It has
consistently been one of the largest exporters of crude oil in the Americas. As a founding
member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Venezuela is an
important player in the global oil market. While production has been declining, Venezuela
exports of crude oil to the United States have been among the top. In recent years, through
significant upfront investment, an increasing share of Venezuela’s exports have been
delivered to China and India.
In 2012, Venezuela consumed 3.3 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu) of total energy. Oil
continues to represent the majority of total energy consumed, while use of natural gas has
increased in the past five years. Hydroelectric power represents less than 25% of total
consumption, and coal represents less than 1%
The Resource Curse and Oil Revenues in Venezuela And AngolaDvinz Oil & Gas,S.A
Dvinz Oil & Gas,S.A: To many people in Latin America, Hugo Chávez was a revolutionary hero who embraced the poor. rabbing control of Venezuela’s vast oil wealth, using its proceeds to fund social and anti-poverty projects, and expelling the free-market scolds from the I.M.F., the World Bank, and his country’s business establishment. On the other hand, Chávez was a leader dealing with the “resource curse” that has afflicted all too many developing countries.
Oil in Venezuela: Triggering Violence or Ensuring Stability? A Context‐sensi...Dvinz Oil & Gas,S.A
factors that make the oil‐state Venezuela, which is generally characterized by a low level of violence, an outlier among the oil countries as a whole. It applies a newly elaborated “context approach” that systematically considers domestic and international contextual factors. To test the results of the systematic analysis, two periods with a moderate increase in internal violence in Venezuela are subsequently analyzed, in the second part of the paper, from a comparative‐historical perspective.
The findings demonstrate that oil, in interaction with fluctuating non‐resource‐specific contextual conditions, has had ambiguous effects: On the one hand, oil has explicitly
served as a conflict‐reducing and partly democracy‐promoting factor, principally through large‐scale socioeconomic redistribution, widespread clientelistic structures, and corrup‐tion. On the other hand, oil has triggered violence—primarily through socioeconomic
causal mechanisms (central keywords: decline of oil abundance and resource management) and secondarily through the long‐term degradation of political institutions. While clientelism and corruption initially had a stabilizing effect, in the long run they exacerbated the dele‐
gitimization of the traditional political elite. Another crucial finding is that the impact and relative importance of oil with respect to the increase in violence seems to vary signifi‐
cantly depending on the specific subtype of violence.
How does your media project represent particular social groups?
1. How does your media
project represent
particular social groups?
BY NICK PERKINS
2. The group I found that people who would read my magazine would be
classed as Emergent Service Workers.
I would think that the people who may be seen reading a magazine such
as mine, would be classed as this, as they:
Are of a younger generation.
Enjoy a cultured social life.
May pay rent to their home – Parents or with flat mates.
This person will also like listening to rock music, possibly some other
types of music, going to gigs, being with friends and socialising.
3. Front Cover
Cover Lines –
I’ve used this to promote
the article and contents
of “Luke”. If someone Is
a fan they would
consider buying this
magazine.
Feature Article
Photograph –
This photograph shows
“Luke” in action with his
guitar which will attract
customers to buying the
magazine
Sell –
This quote is from one of
the articles from “Luke”.
This is promoting the
article, as it is being
used as a cliff-hanger.
Puff –
These are both boosting
the status of the
magazine to show that it
includes some big
contents. Also, the
opportunity to win a
guitar.
4. Contents Page
The mode of address of
my contents page is
chatty as I want my
reader to want to read
each page of my
magazine.
The connotation of this
page, would be that the
pictures are welcoming
and the text colours
match the colours of the
front cover and the
double page spread.
All the text on this page
is flushed left although
some text is to the right
of the page.
This page matches the
house style of the rest of
my work, as there is
black and red, as well as
a grey backdrop
matching up with my
front cover.
This would be a filler as
otherwise it would have
been an empty space,
however it may be better
for my contents page to
repeat something from
my front page.
5. Double Page Spread
Quote (Large) –
People will stop
and look
Drop cap –
A more
professional
feel
Wrapped Text –
Better looking
than justified
alignment
Bright Lighting -
Lighting from
the left, adds
professional
contrast
6. Front Cover Comparison
Both of these front covers use
lighting from one angle, Fusion
from the right, Total Guitar from
the left. This adds a partial dark
effect to the feature article
photograph.
Total guitar wraps a lot of it’s
text around the feature
photograph whereas I did not
wrap text as I knew I wanted to
fill the cover up, especially as I
has a mid-long shot photo.
I placed my photo over my
masthead, to show this edition of
this magazine is based on “Luke”.
Similarly Total Guitar have done
this to add the same effect.
7. Contents Comparison
These headings are both
positioned to the right of
the page. I wanted to show
that the contents page was
part of the Fusion Mag so
that is why I included
“Fusion Mag” below
“Contents”
Both of these images are
plugs, as they are promoting
articles within the
magazine, which are the
main articles.
Both of these contents page
have included page numbers
on some of their pictures, I
had done this as they would
be the most popular articles
so people can go straight to
them.
8. Double Page Spread Comparison
I have used a drop cap to add a professional feel to the page. NME, to the right, has not done this. I have used a quote as a
filler to fill in the gap on my page, as without it, it would look empty, this also gives any customer a quick glimpse of what to
expect in the article if they read it. NME have done nearly the same except that the quote is even bigger, but in this case, it
works well. Although my article is not so long, I have still wrapped text around my photograph (part of the guitar) I have done
this to create an effect of how powerful the image overlooking the article actually is. NME has not done this, as the article is
left aligned in columns and the photograph is out of its way. Also part of the quote used is on top of the photograph.
