How does your media product
  represent social groups?
       By Diddy Moemeke
Description
My magazine ‘FUSIC’ is aimed mainly at young
males and females that are interested in both
fashion and music around the ages of 15 – 20.
As a young person myself I know that the
majority of young people are interested in
both of these things and the way in which the
  influence each other.
I feel that my magazine both challenges and
reinforces the stereotype of young people. It
reinforces the stereotype because it includes
things which young people are interested in
and can relate to such as music and fashion
and young celebrities. However it also
challenges the stereotype because it is
different from a lot of other music magazine
and young people are seen as all the same.
Another way in which I have challenged the
stereotype slightly is how I have bought all
  different types of music together.
There are very particular stereotypes amongst
modern day young people, these include things
such as ‘chavs’, ‘emos’, ‘preps’ etc. My magazine
includes music that all these types of people are
likely to listen to. Normally magazine are aimed
at one stereotype and they only include music
that one stereotype would listen to.
One way in which I have reinforced the
stereotype is through the use of the
• Colours
• Font
• Layout
• Language
Colours
I have used bright blue and white throughout
the magazine in order to catch the eye of a
young person and to also keep it simple and
chilled which teenagers can relate to.
Font
I have used the font ‘Virtual DJ’ throughout my
magazine to mirror the music genre and also
because it is a very fun and modern day font.
These are the types of things that young
   people like.
Layout
I have made the layout of my front cover
extremely muddled and disorganised to mirror
the stereotypical lifestyle of a young person.
Language
On my front cover I have used coverlines that will
attract young people such as ‘Fashion fixes for
under £20’ and ‘Free music download’. These will
attract young people because they are likely to
not be making a lot of money therefore they're
buying power will be low. Giving them these
cheap options is likely to draw them into the
   magazine more.
I have also used words from the modern day lexical
field of teenagers such as ‘swag’ and ‘cool’.
