How does my horror film challenges forms and
- 1. How does my horror film challenges forms and conventions Harry Dosher AS Media
- 2. Insight • Researching recent products at the start of the project made me realise the typical forms and conventions of real media products out today.my OTS can be classed as a independent horror film which I chose to briefly analyse. • Following traditional generic conventions of a horror trailer I looked into styles of genres. Genre consists of “patterns/styles/structures which transcend individual films, and which supervise both their construction by the film-maker and their reading by an audience” .
- 3. Stereotypes • I have stuck to many typical stereotypes but this is just because of the availability of many actors but the OTS involves one girl being chased by a unknown person in the clip. • She acts stressed and scared as the music rises with her levels of fear during the OTS which culminates when she meets a friend and thinks its over but then I featured a point of view shot of someone looking round the corner to show they are still being followed.
- 4. Challenging horror conventions • As well as looking at opening title sequences I also took the time to analysed magazine covers and posters, which are both used to create an audience and promote the product. • This gives the same sort of effect as an opening Title sequence as it doesn't give a lot away and can keep the reader/watcher guessing also the use of connotations of danger can give them a scary vibe. • Credit block – allows audience to know who is involved in the film. Scary image – manipulated lighting for greater outcome. Image inside of an image which I looked at using but I focus on the music a bit more which was shallow and very low giving an eerie felling about the OTS .
- 5. Conclusion • Overall I believe my main product and ancillary tasks both, challenge and develop forms and conventions of real media products. I believe they look realistic and would easily fit into the horror genre on shelves in shops. • I feel that our horror trailer does actually challenge conventions via the character gender stereotypes . • But, uses traditional horror tropes and follows the form of an original horror OTS such as ‘the night of the living dead’
