Peruvian people dye alpaca and sheep wool through a multi-step process. They first wash the wool to remove any organic matter, then dry it. Next, they separate and smooth the wool fibers. The fibers are then spun into thread on a spindle or spinning wheel. The spun wool is formed into balls which are washed again. Finally, the wool is dyed using plants and minerals found in nature to produce unique, long-lasting colors. Common natural dyes used produce yellow, green, red, black, brown, orange, gray, blue, and pink colors.
