Holocaust And The Cambodian Genocide
Generally, when people first hear the word holocaust or genocide they immediately think of the
Jewish holocaust during World War II. Ever since then people have said that another holocaust
can never happen again, that it s evil, disgusting, horrible and so on. However it has happened
again, it s happened again many times. Mass genocide was not eliminated in 1945 when Jews
were liberated, it is still happening in our world all around us but just as during WWII people
have looked the other way. Such as with the Cambodian Genocide that took place over a course of
four years from 1975 until 1979.
This period of time started to spiral down hill in 1975 when the government in Cambodia was
overthrown by the Khmer Rouge. The Khmer Rouge was a small

Unethical And Criminal Behavior During The Prussian...
The experiment with human subject was brought to an attention to the Prussian Parliament, when
several unethical and criminal behaviors were traced in the field of research in Germany in the
nineteenth century. The research was mainly conducted unethically in the hospitals, mainly without
any informed consent. The turning point for the establishment of universal rule regarding human
experiment was done after the case of Neisser, where in 1898, Albert Neisser, who discovered the
gonococcus and professor of dermatology at university of Breslau, conducted clinical trials on
serum therapy in patients with syphilis. In order to find a method of syphilis prevention, he injected
cell free serum from patients with syphilis into patients who were admitted for other medical
conditions. Most of these patients were prostitutes, who were neither informed about the procedure,
nor asked for consent. After several discussions in the Prussian parliament about the case, attention
was given to the need of participant s autonomy and beneficence. The criticism of unethical human
experiments in the media and in the parliament, the Reich government issued detailed Guidelines
for new therapy and human experimentation in 1931 (Vollmann, Rolf, 1996).
Nuremberg Code (1946) Since, the post World War I gave a way for Nazis to rise to power in
Germany and that had led to an era, where all basic human rights of the citizens were ceased, the
research sector was also greatly affected as the Nazi

Alcohol And Substance Abuse And The National Minimum...
Since alcohol and substance abuse have come into play, along with health issues, and emotional
issues in peoples lives, questions started to arise. One being the legal age to start drinking
alcohol. The national minimum drinking age act was signed on July 17th, 1984 to the law, with
the drinking age at minimum being 21 (Archer M.D.). An adult is any person who s reached the
age of maturity as directed by law (Archer M.D.). Legally, being 18 years old in the U.S. is
considered to be the adult age, but the consumption of alcohol has always been withheld from the
young adults of today, until the age of 21. When you re 18 year old, you can apply for a credit
card, legally marry whoever you may want without parental consent, divorce, rent,... Show more

At the same time, moderate drinking helps lower levels of cholesterol and prevents colds, unless
the drinker smokes tobacco, meaning moderate drinking with care can be seen as not harmful
when done by responsible adults (Pringle). Even though 18 is the adult age in the U.S. 18 19 is
still technically the teenager age and teens are said to be at a more extreme risk than adults
would be to die in a car crash, partially because of alcohol s stronger effects on lighter people
(Pringle). Should 18 be the legal age for alcohol consumption? Although denying young adults to
alcohol may seem unfair, 21 should be the legal age for alcohol consumption in the U.S. rather than
18, because of the overall improved death and health rates shown as the outcome.
Currently in the U.S. the legal drinking age is at 21, an age that many people believe is fair. In the
U.S. more than 25k lives have been saved because of the 21 minimum legal drinking age
(Madd). Although health facts and opinions all have their own facts, the statistics don t lie.
Even with 18 20 year olds legally being accepted as adults, this age group is still more likely to
illegally drink because they re so close to the legal age. But those who start drinking before the
age of 21 are more likely to be involved in violent behaviors, attempt suicide, have unprotected
sex, develop alcoholic problems, and more (Pringle). On top of this, drinking at a young age
greatly increases the risk of developing alcohol

Research on the Cell Cycle of an Onion Root Tip
Introduction:
Cell cycle is a series of sequenced events in a Eukaryotic (a cell with a nucleus and membrane
bounded organelles) from its origin until its division to produce two daughter cells. There are
different forms of cell division: mitosis: an asexual division that produces daughter nuclei with the
exact copies of the parent nuclei and Meiosis; cell division that reduces the number of
chromosomes to produce specialized cells called gametes (sex cells) that produces half the number
of chromosome of the parent cell. Cell cycle is divided in three major steps: interphase, mitosis, and
cytokinesis. During interphase step, the cell produces proteins particular cells need to function
properly. Interphase is separated into three phases: G1 phase where most cell s organelles
duplicate leading the cell to grow and expand, Synthesis phase where the DNA in the chromosome
replicate, and G2 phase where the proteins are synthesized preparing mitosis for cell division. Due
to the numerous activities going on, the cell spends a lot of time in interphase. Next major step of
the cell cycle is the mitotic (M) phase, during which the cell splits into two distinct cells, often
called daughter cells . Mitosis is accomplished during four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase
and telophase. During prophase, the replicated chromosomes condense, so they can move around
freely, nuclear envelopes, the membrane that surrounds the nucleus scatters, and spindle protein
structures called

Deep Brain Stimulation Implantation ( Shin ) Implantation
Deep Brain Stimulation Implantation
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) implantation is a procedure to insert a wire (lead) into one or both
sides of the brain in order to deliver electrical currents to an area causing problems. The lead is
attached to a power source that is implanted under the skin near the collarbone, chest, or abdomen.
This procedure may be done to treat various medical conditions, such as Parkinson disease, essential
tremor, and other neurological conditions that cannot be controlled with medicines.
Once implanted, the device can be used 24 hours per day. The intensity and frequency of the pulses
are programmed for each individual and can be adjusted.
The DBS device has three parts:
A lead. This is a thin wire. It goes through one or two small openings in your skull. It delivers the
electrical pulse.
A power source. This is called the neurotransmitter. It is usually placed under the skin in the upper
part of your collarbone, chest, or abdomen, similar to how a heart pacemaker is inserted. It is
powered by a long lasting battery.
An extension. This is a wire that connects the lead to the power source. The extension is passed
under the skin of your head and neck and down to the power source.

Severe Acute Kidney Injury
Introduction Acute kidney injury (AKI) following cardiac surgery is a well known complication
that occurs in up to 30% of patients(1,2). Severe acute renal failure, which requires renal
replacement therapy, is associated with a very high mortality(60 100%) when treated with the usual
intermittent hemodialysis(3 5) . However, the introduction of continuous renal replacement therapy
has resulted in significant improvement in outcome as well reduction in mortality(1,5). One such
form of continuous renal replacement is continuous venovenous hemofiltration(CVVH). CVVH
treats uraemia and ultrafiltrate toxic proteins such as the myocardial depressant factor, thus it
improves heart and lung functions in patients with ARF and cardiac shock after heart surgery(6,7).
It offers better control of the patient s volume status and also avoids the hemodynamic instability
associated with intermittent hemodialysis(4,7). Such modality of treatment was reported to be
approximately 6% after CABG(8,9). It is essential to predict which group of patients would
benefits from such intensive use of CVVH so as to use it more rationally(3). Based on many
published studies, early use of CVVH is advocated to have better outcomes(3,7). However, its use
has been criticized for being costly, resource intensive and virtually may not improve... Show more

replacement therapy(RRT) have significantly longer in hospital stay as well as increased

The Basic Parts That Make Up A Computer
Lawson City
Since you are looking to upgrade or purchase a new set of computers, I would like to discuss the
basic parts that make up a computer. It is important for everyone to have a basic understanding of
what makes a computer. As technology advances, it s important that you be able to make an
educated decision on whether to upgrade or to replace your current systems. The difference can
be a good deal of your hard earned money. Therefore, I will be detailing the Operating System,
Processor, Memory, RAM, and a few other things that will help you make good decisions when
purchasing new machines.
Let s start with the Operating System. Chris Woodford describes the operating system as the core
software in a computer that (essentially) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These computers date back to DOS, and Windows NT. Now we have multicore Processors, which
allow us to run two or more tasks at the same time. Of course now days, you can surf the internet,
write a word document, while listening to your favorite playlist on iTunes. We have come a really
long way.
The next thing we will discuss is Memory. Your hard drive allows you to store all the
applications, programs, pictures, and any other data that you might like to save on your
machine. Hard drives now come in many different sizes depending on your needs. They range
from 100 GB to 3.9 Terabytes. The average home computer has 500 GB of memory. We also have
Solid State Drives which are said to be more reliable because there is no spinning mechanism to
worry about possibly failing.
Now we must discuss the RAM (Random Access Memory). Even though this is wiped clean
every time you shut down your computer, your random access memory stores the location of
that data. Because of this, the CPU doesn t need to go back out to the address bus and find the
data s location on your hard drive. It s like going to the library. If you need to know the definition
of a word, you don t need to get up repeatedly, walk over to the shelf with the dictionary and open
it to the corresponding page. Instead you can just take the dictionary off of the shelf and keep it at
the table until you are done. Your RAM does the exact same thing, thus speeding up the process.

Description about the Sensors in the Network
. PROBLEM STATEMENT PROPOSED SCHEME
This section gives the description about the sensors, respective public and private key pair model
and event generation in the network. This is followed by the threat model of the network and the
kind of adversaries which pose threat to the network. The design goals of the proposed scheme are
also listed.
Figure 1. Network model with attack scenario
1 System Model
We consider the sensors S={S1,S2, S3, .....Sx} are deployed where x is the population of the
deployed sensors. Nodes are assumed to be deployed in uniform random distribution. Prior to
deployment, each sensor is assumed to be loaded with a public /private keypair (pi; si), for i = 1; 2;
3; 4;.....x. Among the public key cryptosystems available, we assume to used ID based public key
cryptography.
The event generation in the network, is considered to be random. Event is sensed by the
neighboring sensor nodes where the event has occurred. These neighboring nodes will try to report
the event occurred to the sink or base station through anonymous authentication, maintaining the
privacy of the event as well as privacy of the nodes in terms of location and identity. So the
neighboring nodes of the occurred event will form a ring signature groups addressing other
selective nodes in the network. The size of the rings will depend on the number of neighboring
nodes when the event has occurred. The payload of the messages will depend on the number of
nodes in the anonymity set of

The Enuma Elin Creation Theth Of The Enlonian Creation Myth
The Enuma Elish is the Babylonian Creation Myth. Written on seven stone tablets, the poem
describes the beginning of the universe as a separating of water from Chaos. Essentially, the
universe begins in a chaos of swirling waters until, with time, the waters separate into Apsu and
Tiamat. In response to this myth, the first book of Genesis was written during the Babylonian
Exile. Genesis 1 introduces how Godcreated the world in six days and rested on the seventh. In
addition to this creation story, there were another one written centuries before and it was written in
Genesis two and three. This story, famously described as The Fall of Man shows how God created

God created the sky and the waters like Marduk did as he split Tiamat into sky and land, but it is
important to note that God did this out of love and Marduk created out of vengeance. (Genesis 1:6
7, Enuma Elish IV:134 146). From the third day forward the order of creation was quite similar. A
reader can assume that the order might infer that the response was not of what order creation, but
who the creator is and why he made creation into existence.
The God in Genesis, through his peaceful speaking into the creation of the world and humanity,
can be seen as humble, peaceful, and is mysterious. In Enuma Elish, the chaos and violence
noted can make the reader infer that the gods are all powerful and they have to make creation
right, but from the spoken mouth of God, all creation was good. On sixth generation of creation

and likeness (Genesis 1:26). In addition, the second creation story says that God made man out of

There is a debate among scientists as to whether barefoot or shod conditions are more beneficial to

conditions, their aim was to clarify the effects of shoes on the most generally used variables
associated with impact analysis of the lower limb. They concluded that there was insufficient

A. R. Ammons And Clearances Essay
These two elegies are written by different people that reveal a personal experience and reactions
towards loss, death, change, and nature. These themes are prevalent because the speaker wants
the reader to acknowledge and understand how human beings can conflict pain on their selves by
not changing and letting go of the past. Nonetheless, there are differences between these two
elegies by the year it was written. The two elegies are Easter morning by A. R. Ammons and

Cause Of Workplace Violence
Literature Review
Causes of workplace violence in united state
There are three main causes of workplace violence so far experience in United State, these include;
workplace factors, personal factors, and person situation interactions.
Workplace factors
Attempt to predict violence in a place of work previously have focused almost on personal factors
in line with social learning theory. Marital violence is associated with work stress in totality. Again
feeling of job insecurity, use of electronic surveillance and employees perceived workplace justice
are the three main workplace factors that may be considered important in foreseeing workplace
violence
Workers perception of fairness is reflected in the structural justice, procedures and policies as well
as the organizational outcomes. Generally, workers involved in efforts to reinstate their sense of
justice when they perceived an injustice in the factory. Violence may be a predictable outcome, by
extension that the workers alleged to be exposed at work, whether in terms of physical danger.
Furthermore, various occupational murders have been linked to employees who have been
approved over for elevations or indicted and certain that the process used was unfair, also some of
the events that precipitate the unfairness in the work place have been connected to poor
administration measures, coercion, and unreliable corrective measures. Even though it is not the
only contributing reason, occupational violence can also be caused by perceptions of technical
prejudice.
Personal Factor
Personal factors that contribute to work place violence includes alcohol abuse, past history of
aggression, and lack of self esteem.
Destructive conduct across a diversity of settings such as violence at the family level that has been
connected with the unnecessary use of alcohol. From a wide viewpoint of emotional alignment,
excess use of alcohol will increase workplace violence since it increases the chance of the situation
being misjudged and lowers mental and oral operational.
Secondly apart from alcohol abuse, there are reasons why a person s past history of aggression
might trigger workplace violence, because aggression is a very stable behavior. The recent use of
aggression has

stories, despite both revolving around Nick Adams and his family, tell two vastly different tales one
of a birth and a suicide, and the other of a man s weakness, the two being ultimately tied together by
Hemingway s iconic style in which they are written. The two stories, although consecutive in their

The vignettes portray situations from a war, and function as a tool to intensify the effect of the
stories. The first describes an evacuation, and the second a military infiltration attempted by
German soldiers. The vignette following Indian Camp mentions a woman having a baby with a
young girl holding a blanket over her , which strongly resembles the circumstances illustrated in
said story. This strengthens the impact of the tale and affirms Nick s experience as a universal
part of human existence. Moreover, it juxtaposes the childbirth with the insinuation of death
looming overhead during times of war, again linking itself to Indian Camp. The following
vignette carries a lesser resemblance to the stories. Due to its straightforward tone, it creates a

Realtor Ethics
A realtor is the designation accorded to a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
NAR is the largest trade association of America. It has about 1 million members. The membership
to the association is voluntary therefore it contains many other group members apart from the
realtors. The idea behind the formation of this union is to utilize the land in a wise and best
possible way.
The real estate professionals who are members of the NAR have to adhere to a code of ethics. The
code of ethics is inclusive of duties to clients, customers, public and other realtors. The main
motive is to promote the best interests of the client, be it the buyer, seller, landlord or tenant. The
realtors are expected not to mislead their clients in order to book higher profits. The realtor is

Although realtors are expected to avoid misstating the facts or hiding useful information it is not
obligatory for them to find out the defects in the property. Hence it is important to get the property
checked by a third party inspector.
In case the realtor seeks information from other realtors it is mandatory for them to disclose their
realtor status and clarify the nature of interest, whether it is personal or on the behalf of a client.
The realtors are not supposed to misrepresent the availability of access to a particular property.
When acquiring properties from their immediate families or friends the realtors have to disclose
their true position to the concerned parties.
You are entitled to know the financial fee or benefits that the realtors get on the basis of

civic organizations, trade organizations, government and regulatory authorities, and the media.
With all these stakeholders within the organizations specific and general environment makes

Rock Music History
Rock music has been very popular for years. Now a day s rock has blended in with the other
types of popular music like pop, country and rap. However, none of these other types of music
seemed to have as big an impact on people that rock did. Rock n roll, basically controlled the
most of the twentieth century, with an entire era of children, teens and young adults to follow.
But, where did rock come from? What is rock music, what started it? How did parents react? Rock
n roll original started along the Mississippi River Valley (image right, Dennison). The music spread
up and down the river, along the railroads and highways that ran near the river (Allen). It also
traveled through Tennessee, Illinois, Cumberland and the Missouri rivers also known as the
tributaries (Allen). The reason... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has to do with the beats, melody, elements and rhythm that make up the music. Those are the
things that separate music from noise. Though, if you listen to early rock like Maybellene by
Chuck Berry and What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong it is a little more clearly. When
it comes to rock and jazz in specific; they are influenced by different properties around them.
Even though jazz and rock are inspired by different things; they are still more alike than to any
other type of music. However, they share one distinct difference. In jazz, it uses a shuffle rhythm
and rock does not (Kajanova 13). What that means is that the same rhythmic values in rock are
used in subtle shifts and digressions to enhance the relax feel of the music; along with an essence
and easiness, that s why jazz and rock are different (Kajanova 13). Musical ideas of rock and jazz
came from components that came from European folk and stylized dances that were changed into
country music. From there it was changed into rhythm and blues and jazz, and lastly it was imported
into rock

Black Panther Party Reflection
My experience at the Oakland Museum was educational, I learn about the history of Asian
American were mistreated and placed to work on the railroads. The artwork I saw at the Museum
was quite amazing that look quite realistic. It was a photograph of lady holding a child during the
time of the Great Depression. Another thing I saw was The Black Panther Partyexhibit it was quite
small, but I learn that African American does not want to be seen as second class citizen and
being disrespected. This connects to our class in a way it relates to the documentary that we
watched about the Black Panther Party. The Black Panther Party is a movement that revolutionized
the Black community like the Black Lives Matter movement that is around today. This particular
movement help fund a breakfast program for low income family which it is a model used in
public schools. Lastly, I sat on a half opened airplane and imagining I was an immigrant coming to
the United Stateslooking for new opportunities like the War and Peace documentary I watched for a
homework assignment. Overall, I enjoy the OaklandMuseum. The second event I attended was
the no A s movement. I did not really went there close enough since I was in a rush to get to
work. However, I took a quick second to take a picture of the event. The movement is not that big

How Does Shaw Present Eliza s Transformation
Shaw s creation of a romantic play with an atypical ending establishes and presents a sense of
reality and honesty not ordinarily found within compositions similar to his. The real world is not
full of happy endings, or at least not the expected ones. The Cinderella story of Eliza s
transformation is paralleled by that of a Frankenstein creation of new life , or Higgins molding of
Eliza and her speech (2). The romance presented in the production is centered on Eliza and her

Shaw s work of art is not about the fairy tale happy ending but about something believable and
sensible. Slowly over months Liza s tough, gutter , exterior was chipped away to reveal Eliza, a
woman capable of being called a duchess, but not one willing to sit down and serve another.
Independence races through her and the moment she throws the slippers at Higgins pieces are
being restored, she no longer will be a servant of his nor does she want any position that would
make her one for the rest of her life. Any form of relationship to Higgins involving romantic
attachment does not allow Eliza to be herself or to feel superior to anyone. Freddy offers the
companionship she needs, with support, love, and no shadow to stand in. Shaw s romance is
more about the making of her person not of any relationship with another character, it is Eliza s
relationship with herself. Although Eliza s self worth was not determined by her standing in life
she realized that she deserved more, she respected herself enough to know that Higgins was not
the kind of man she would want a relationship with. She needed someone who cared for her

The Rites of Passage and Liminality Essay
The Rites of Passage and Liminality
Originally developed by anthropologist Arnold van Gennep in the early 20th century in his book
Rites de Passage, the term liminality refers to the concept in which participants are in the threshold
stage of disorientation and suspension from the previous social norm that they were used to. When
an individual goes through a rite of passage also coined by van Gennep he is cut off from his old
life and is born again into a new person. However, before he can fully become a new person and
finish his rite of passage, he is suspended in a liminal stage that bridges the old self with the newly
acknowledged self. In other words, he is in a stage of disorientation and amorphous identity. Found

dance and sing all night in costumes and masks, awakening the boys consecutively to parade them

sons a Last Supper as if they were still infants. Shortly thereafter, the boys were marched down to
a clearing known as the place of dying , and suddenly attacked by the guardian males, who held
each boy down and circumcised him. Upon having their wounds fully healed, they were then
allowed to return unto their village as men.

Social Media s Role In Presidential Campaigns
Social media websites have been gaining popularity and record amounts of users since the early

Gastric Digestion Research Paper
1. Firstly, the cracker enters the mouth. This is where the cracker is physically broken down by
chewing, and chemical digestion of carbohydrates begins. Salivary glands in the mouth produce
saliva which moistens dry food and contains salivary amylase, a digestive enzyme that breaks down
carbohydrates. The cracker is then swallowed. Paristalsis (involuntary muscle contractions) push
food down the esophagus. In the stomachthe cracker bathes it in gastric juices. Gastric juice is
composed of three main parts; hydrochloric acid, mucus, and pepsin. Hydrochloric acid helps to

From the right atrium the blood moves into the right ventricle through the AV valve. When the
ventricles contract the blood is moves through the semilunar valve into the pulmonary artery. This
artery then branches off into the left lung and the right lung so that the blood can become
oxygenated. The oxygen rich blood returns to the left atrium of the heart through the pulmonary
veins.
4. The kidneys filter the blood to remove wastes, like excess water, and produce urine. The ureters,
urinary bladder, and urethra together form the urinary tract, which drain urine from the kidneys.
They also store the urine then release it during urination. The kidneys filter metabolic wastes,
excess ions, and chemicals from the blood to form urine.
Gravity as well as peristalsis of muscle tissue in the walls of the ureters move urine toward the
bladder. The ends of the ureters extend into the urinary bladder and are attached to the
ureterovesical valves. These valves prevent urine from flowing back towards the kidneys.
The urinary bladder is used for the storage of urine. Urine entering the urinary bladder from the

Gram Staining Procedure
Bacterial identification procedures are extremely important in the clinical laboratory.
Microorganisms need to be classified, and identified in order to distinguish one species from
another. Identification can isolate organisms that are disease agents, and enable physicians to make
diagnosis s. It also enables physicians to choose the best treatment/antibiotics to address that
specific organism. For example, some gram negative bacteriacan produce endotoxins when they

This staining procedure was developed in the 1882, by a Danish bacteriologist, Hans Christian
Gram. This technique identifies differences in a bacteria s cell wall. It utilizes crystal violet
(primary stain), Gram s iodine (mordant), and safranin (counterstain). Most bacteria fall into two
categories, Gram positive or gram negative. Gram positive bacteria have a thick layer of
peptidoglycan, and techoic acids in their cell walls. This thick peptidoglycan layer retains the
crystal violet stain, and displays the cells as a purple color under the microscope. Gram negative
bacteria cell walls have significant differences from gram positive bacteria. Gram negative cells
have a thin peptidoglycan layer, and do not have techie acids. They also have an outer membrane
that is similar to the phospholipid bilayer of a cell membrance. These differences allow the crystal
violet stain to rinse away from them, then they retain the safranin stain and appear reddish/pink
under the microscope. Although it is very useful, it is not the only tooled needed to identify a
bacteria. Some bacteria, are gram variable, displaying both positive and negative reactions. Other
bacteria, such as Mycoplasmas, do not have a cell wall, rendering this test ineffective. Finally, it

Analysis Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine Essay
In Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich, many of the characters face expectations for their roles as
Native Americans and as women on their reservation. One of these characters is Lulu, who
experiences shaming because of her traditionalist view of Chippewa life and relationships with
many men. She is continually fueled by a love and passion that guides her to contradict these
expectations, often quite directly, even in the face of community gossip. Throughout the novel,
Lulu defies expectations about Native Americans and her expected role as a woman, especially
in relationships. This can be seen in her reactions to the government s appropriation of their land,
against the community s shaming of her for her many romantic relationships, and ability to lead
her family although she is expected to lose control over her many children. Lulu Lamartine
actively fights against the government s appropriation of Native American land, disagreeing with
the idea that it will improve their life and the expectation that Native Americans will be grateful
for the sale. Lulu s ideas about the importance of living on their own land were first influenced by
her family as a young adult. For example, she is told to sing my songs and then bury me high in a
tree, Lulu, where I can see my enemies approach in the government cars (71). The United States
government intervention in the lives of Native Americans is a continued point of tension
throughout her life. Lulu has a distinct distrust of the United

experience fear. Edgar Allan Poe uses symbolism, irony, and imagery to illuminate how fear
distorts the protagonist s mind and resulting in such fear. The symbols in The Tell Tale Heart and
The Masque of Red Death are the items that the narrator obsesses over due to emotional excesses.
An example would be the eye from The Tell Tale Heart and how that it may be symbolism of his
father s judgement. The judgement of the father s eye haunted [ him ] day and night. (page 74).

Essay On The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a time of great reform in ideas and knowledge. It was such an important
part of history, that it took many people and many years to fully bring it into play. This time in life
was all about change, such as the education of women, the separation of science and church, and the
freedom to learn without government censorship. Someone people were on board with the
movement, but others fought against the great ideals of Enlightenment. Although, it is sure that
without the Enlightenment, our world would be very different today, and not in a good way.
The Enlightenment was mainly seen throughout the eighteenth century, though events leading up to
and shaping the movement can be dated back to the sixteen ... Show more content on

In the 1690 s John Toland published a book titled Christianity Not Mysterious, in which he said,
Why should we have religious doctrines or dogmas at all?... Why not find a set of reasonable
principles based on nature s laws on which everyone could agree? (Jacob p42). Ideas like this had
become more common since the enlightenment, though most were not this extreme in hoping the
form religious unity.
Another change that occurred during enlightenment was the education of women. During the time
of Absolutism, women were seen as under their husband s authority and control. Women
received minimal education and if they did by chance receive a higher education, they hardly
had a voice of their own to advocate ideas. When the era of enlightenment arrived, many men
started to realized the importance and value in a woman s education. One of the major examples
of what a women s education can bring to society, was displayed through the career of Mary
Wortley Montagu. Montagu was known for taking a public stance on inoculation, practicing it on
her own children and introducing it before it became a common practice in Europe. Montagu
traveled to many places in Europe and learned from her cultural experiences. She even spoke of
educational rights in Germany, She went from city to city and decried the power of the absolutist
princes over their subjects (Jacob p24). Her work inspired many women to become educated and

The Theme Of Love In Lin Manuel Miranda s Its Quiet Uptown
The theme of grief, especially in the context of losing a loved one is always a deep and
emotional topic to write about. Many writers have attempted to find the words to express how the
family of a lost loved one feels in the aftermath of such a terrible tragedy, but often they fail to fully
grasp the emotionin their writing. Lin Manuel Miranda is not one of these writers. In his song, It
s Quiet Uptown, from Hamilton, he beautifully portrays what its like trying to continue after
losing someone one has never imagined having to let go. The song describes the life of
Alexander Hamilton and his wife Eliza attempting to cope with the death of their eldest son,
Philip. The beautiful language of the song and the vivid imagery in the lyrics clearly convey the
emotions one feels after the sudden loss of a loved one and what it s like to watch people go
through such a terrible time. The beautiful music and the emotion with which it is preformed
provide an excellent medium through which to convey this message. The depth of Hamilton s
grief is wonderfully portrayed in this piece of art. The first instance of this imagery is in the first
lines. Angelica sings, There are moments that the words don t reach, There is suffering to terrible
to name, You hold your child as tight as you can, And push away the unimaginable. These lines
paint the perfect picture of what it is like to watch a loved one die, especially a child. As one sits
there, watching as someone they love takes their

Medical Marijuana Should be Legalized Essay
Marijuana has been in the news lately since two states, Colorado and Washington, have voted to
legalize recreational marijuana. Currently they are the only two states to legalize recreational
marijuana. Twenty states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana. Iowa, at
this time, has decided not to legalize medical marijuana in spite of many Iowa citizens advocating
for the legalization of the drug. Iowa is taking a cautious approach to medical marijuana. Medical
marijuana has been proven to help with seizures, pain management, nausea and improve the
quality of life of people with certain medical issues. Regulation of medical marijuana will keep the

One Denver citizen put it quite clearly when he stated, The only thing more addictive than illegal
drugs is tax revenue. We have seen this work with gambling which used to be illegal and now is a
wonderful source of revenue for states. Governor Hickenlooper of Colorado has urged other states
not to rush into legalizing marijuana just for the tax revenue, but to wait and see how Colorado
handles any problems that may arise.
The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 criminalized marijuana by restricting possession of the drug to
individuals who paid an excise tax for certain approved medical and industrial uses. Penalty for
nonpayment of this tax was up to $2000 and/or jail time up to five years. (Kriho) Three men,
William Randolf Hearst, Andrew Mellon and Harry Anslinger were the men behind the
development of The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937. The Act was created to reduce the size of the hemp
industry. Anslinger was the head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and had made his career
enforcing alcohol prohibition. Prohibition ended in 1933 and Anslinger felt he needed a new
illegal substance for job security. Hearst owned a newspaper empire. Hemp had become a cheap
substitute for paper pulp which is used in the newspaper industry. Hearst felt hemp was a threat to
his extensive timber holding from which paper pulp was also made. Hearst started a scare

Cultural Differences Between Modern Day North And South
Toronto to Texas the Journey
Changes occur in every region of the world; every minute, every second. Most people generally
do not approve of changes. It causes fear, mistrust, isolation, and even pain. In my youth, I liked
changes. Changes were something to look forward to, it s fun to meet new people and an
enjoyable way to see new places. It was useful to learn new skills and live experiences. So at the
age of fifteen, my mother told me we were headed for America. No attention was given to these
words, because I was a teenager who thought that the state of Texas would be quite similar to
Toronto, but never did I imagine that this will completely change my perception of change. These
changes have led me to understand the different culture between the north and south, not to believe
in stereotypes, and made me adaptable.
I can t even begin to explain the massive cultural differences between modern day North and
South. Most people assume only climate and slang are the major difference in the two, however
they could not be more wrong. Especially between Toronto and Wichita Falls, Texas. It may
sound obvious but there is geographical difference. For one in the North we have more clear and
fast rivers, and we almost always have a bay. While in the south, the soil is agriculturally more
fertile, so in essence we see more farms and large areas of land. Also there is a huge population
difference between Wichita Falls and Toronto, which is easily amongst the biggest and most

Summary Of Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist is the narrative of a youthful vagrant, Oliver, and his endeavors to remain great in a
general public that declines to help. Oliver is conceived in a workhouse, to a mother not known to
anybody in the town. She passes on directly in the wake of bringing forth him, and he is sent to
the parochial halfway house, where he and alternate vagrants are dealt with unpleasantly and
sustained practically nothing. When he turns nine, he is sent to the workhouse, where again he and
the others are dealt with severely and for all intents and purposes starved. Alternate young men,
unfit to stand their appetite any more, choose to attract straws to pick who should go up and
request more nourishment. Oliver loses. On the designated day, subsequent to completing his
initially serving of gruel, he goes up and requests more. Mr. Blunder, the beadle, and the board are
offended, and choose they should dispose of Oliver, apprenticing him to the parochial funeral
director, Mr. Sowerberry. It isn t extraordinary there either, and after an assault on his mom s
memory, Oliver flees.
Oliver strolls towards London. When he is close, he is so powerless he can scarcely proceed, and
he meets another kid named Jack Dawkins, or the cunning Dodger. The Dodger reveals to Oliver
he can accompany him to a place where a man of his word will give him a place to rest and
sustenance, for no lease. Oliver takes after, and the Dodger takes him to a flat in London where he
meets Fagin, the previously

Civil War And A Revolution
According to the UN, the death toll in Syria almost reached two hundred thousand over the last
three and a half years, and the number of displaced Syrians reached 9.5 million. Because of the
complexity of the situation, a lot of people don t even know exactly what is happening over there.
The first thing that might pop into one s mind is that a civil waris going on there. On the other hand,
others argue that it is a revolution against oppression that has been brutally responded to.
Evaluating the situation in Syriarequires solid understanding of specific terms of a civil warand a
revolution. Also, is there a general consensus on what a civil war or a revolution is? Can the
situation in Syria simply be classified into one of these two?
The first important thing to know is that there is no single definition of a civil war that
historians or political scientists have agreed upon. However, a commonly used definition to
judge a situation is that of the correlate of war project, which explains a civil war as a sustained
military combat, primarily internal, resulting in at least 1,000 battle deaths per year, in which
government forces are in conflict with a revolting force capable of effective resistance, determined
by the latter s ability to inflict upon the government forces at least 5% of the fatalities that the
insurgents sustain. Under this classification, there have been 53 civil wars from 1946 to 1992
(Civil War in the Post Colonial World 1946 92). Other Definitions are

What Factors Affect The Sound
There are many factors that contribute to an ensembles sound. Most of which we spend our
musical lives practicing; things like tone, vowels, diction, ect. As we begin to make the transition
from ensemble member to leader we are thrown yet another contributing factor to sound:
conducting. The art of conducting is a continuously growing set of skills for an individual. Many of
the greatest conductors have spent decades perfecting their craft and creating their style, while
building their musicality. One element that sets apart the greatest of conductors is expressivity.
Proper expressive gesturecan influence not only audience perception of an ensemble, but also the
ensemble sound. The notion that expression can influence ensemble... Show more content on

The answer to this is unfortunately unknown, however that is not to suggest that conductors and
their gestures don t make a difference. Gumm (2012) suggests that musicians actually synchronize
more accurately in performance with an expressive conductor. Acklin (2009) notes that choirs
perform with better precision without a conductor than with a strictly metric conductor (p. 26).
Although research is limited in regards to the influence a conductor has over ensemble sound, it is
comforting to know that this phenomenon is not just figurative, but simply unverified.
Despite the limit of research in this field there are some studies that may explain rather specific
implications of conducting gesture on ensemble sound. Again I would like to refer back to our use
of physiological and psychological variables, but this time link them to conducting factors by
conjoining physiological factors to technical and psychological to expressive factors. Gumm s
(2012) article relays six basic functions of conducting and how these functions relate to either
technical or expressive aspects of conducting.
For technical aspects Gumm (2012) dictates three functions: Mechanical precision, physical
technique, and unrestrained tone. Mechanical precision is basic conducting elements such as beat,
time keeping, and meter (Gumm, 2012). While these elements

Roderigo is thinking that Iago is helping him to be with Desdemona, but Roderigo finds out in
(1) that Othello and Desdemona had gotten married. When Roderigo discovers that he is being

Advantage And Disadvantages Of Depreciation
4. Discuss about depreciation.
Depreciation is a method of allocating the cost of a tangible asset over the period in which the
assets are used. Most types of tangible assets such as machinery, vehicles, furniture, equipment and
buildings are depreciable. The only exception of tangible asset which is not depreciated is land
because land is not depleted over time. Depreciation also is a monetary value of an asset decreases
over time due to use, wear and tear, unfavourable market conditions or obsolescence of the property.
Besides, businesses depreciate long term assets for both tax and accounting purposes. For
accounting purpose, depreciation indicates how much of an asset s value has been used up. For
tax purposes, businesses can deduct the cost of the tangible assets they purchase as business
expenses. Depreciation is a non cash expense. In addition, depreciation is used in accounting to try
to match the expense of an asset to the income that the asset helps the company earn. For example,

The one of advantages of straight line method is easy to understand and simple to calculate. The
next advantage of straight line method is it may be suitable where an asset such as plant,
machinery and vehicles utilization is the same in each year. Straight line method is useful where
the pattern of economic benefits is hard to determine with precision. Another advantage of straight
line method is it is most appropriate for assets that are depleted as a result of the passage of time,
such as buildings, leases and patents.
The disadvantage of straight line method is it assumes the benefits contributed by an asset are the
same over the period in which the assets are used. Besides, straight line method may not give an
accurate measure of the loss in value or reduction in useful life. The other disadvantage is it may
not reflect the true pattern of asset s economic benefits.

The Importance Of Gun Control
Many people overestimate the term gun control , assuming that this horrific word means that the
government is going to take control of their firearms, and that people will not have the right to
defend themselves. That is however, incorrect. According to US Legal Definitions (para. 1), the
definition of guncontrol is Gun control laws aim to restrict or regulate the sale, purchase, or
possession of firearms through licensing, registration, or identification requirements. In this
definition, it does not say that guns will be confiscated or banned by the government. The process
of gun control allows the government to regulate the sale of firearms to people who may have a

An issue facing congress is how to classify a firearm as an assault weapon , since banning all semi
automatic weapons would ban most guns in general. In crafting the 1994 ban, lawmakers mainly
focused on 18 specific firearms, as well as certain military type features on guns. Certain models of
AR 15s and AK 47s were banned. Any semiautomatic riflewith a pistol grip and a bayonet mount
was an assault weapon (Plumer, 2012). During the ban, it was illegal to manufacture and sell the
weapons listed above to be used by private citizens. They also regulated magazines, and they
could now carry no more than 10 bullets. While this ban may have had loopholes and flaws, the
statistics show that it had an effect on mass shootings. Putting something in place similar to this
but perhaps more precise and well thought out would help with the overwhelming number of
mass shootings. Not only does there need to be more background checks, but mental health
screenings. While the US may already have these in place, they are fairly short and most are
simply composed of a background check instead of a thorough mental health screening.
According to Maura Ewing, In all but 19 states, private sales do not necessitate a background
check, and therefore do not involve a mental health screening (Ewing, 2017). That means that in
19 out of 50 states, a citizen can legally purchase a firearm via a private sale without being
screened. Licensed gun dealers however, are required to follow the

  • 2. Holocaust And The Cambodian Genocide Generally, when people first hear the word holocaust or genocide they immediately think of the Jewish holocaust during World War II. Ever since then people have said that another holocaust can never happen again, that it s evil, disgusting, horrible and so on. However it has happened again, it s happened again many times. Mass genocide was not eliminated in 1945 when Jews were liberated, it is still happening in our world all around us but just as during WWII people have looked the other way. Such as with the Cambodian Genocide that took place over a course of four years from 1975 until 1979. This period of time started to spiral down hill in 1975 when the government in Cambodia was overthrown by the Khmer Rouge. The Khmer Rouge was a small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Unethical And Criminal Behavior During The Prussian... The experiment with human subject was brought to an attention to the Prussian Parliament, when several unethical and criminal behaviors were traced in the field of research in Germany in the nineteenth century. The research was mainly conducted unethically in the hospitals, mainly without any informed consent. The turning point for the establishment of universal rule regarding human experiment was done after the case of Neisser, where in 1898, Albert Neisser, who discovered the gonococcus and professor of dermatology at university of Breslau, conducted clinical trials on serum therapy in patients with syphilis. In order to find a method of syphilis prevention, he injected cell free serum from patients with syphilis into patients who were admitted for other medical conditions. Most of these patients were prostitutes, who were neither informed about the procedure, nor asked for consent. After several discussions in the Prussian parliament about the case, attention was given to the need of participant s autonomy and beneficence. The criticism of unethical human experiments in the media and in the parliament, the Reich government issued detailed Guidelines for new therapy and human experimentation in 1931 (Vollmann, Rolf, 1996). Nuremberg Code (1946) Since, the post World War I gave a way for Nazis to rise to power in Germany and that had led to an era, where all basic human rights of the citizens were ceased, the research sector was also greatly affected as the Nazi ... • 5. Alcohol And Substance Abuse And The National Minimum... Since alcohol and substance abuse have come into play, along with health issues, and emotional issues in peoples lives, questions started to arise. One being the legal age to start drinking alcohol. The national minimum drinking age act was signed on July 17th, 1984 to the law, with the drinking age at minimum being 21 (Archer M.D.). An adult is any person who s reached the age of maturity as directed by law (Archer M.D.). Legally, being 18 years old in the U.S. is considered to be the adult age, but the consumption of alcohol has always been withheld from the young adults of today, until the age of 21. When you re 18 year old, you can apply for a credit card, legally marry whoever you may want without parental consent, divorce, rent,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time, moderate drinking helps lower levels of cholesterol and prevents colds, unless the drinker smokes tobacco, meaning moderate drinking with care can be seen as not harmful when done by responsible adults (Pringle). Even though 18 is the adult age in the U.S. 18 19 is still technically the teenager age and teens are said to be at a more extreme risk than adults would be to die in a car crash, partially because of alcohol s stronger effects on lighter people (Pringle). Should 18 be the legal age for alcohol consumption? Although denying young adults to alcohol may seem unfair, 21 should be the legal age for alcohol consumption in the U.S. rather than 18, because of the overall improved death and health rates shown as the outcome. Currently in the U.S. the legal drinking age is at 21, an age that many people believe is fair. In the U.S. more than 25k lives have been saved because of the 21 minimum legal drinking age (Madd). Although health facts and opinions all have their own facts, the statistics don t lie. Even with 18 20 year olds legally being accepted as adults, this age group is still more likely to illegally drink because they re so close to the legal age. But those who start drinking before the age of 21 are more likely to be involved in violent behaviors, attempt suicide, have unprotected sex, develop alcoholic problems, and more (Pringle). On top of this, drinking at a young age greatly increases the risk of developing alcohol ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Research on the Cell Cycle of an Onion Root Tip Introduction: Cell cycle is a series of sequenced events in a Eukaryotic (a cell with a nucleus and membrane bounded organelles) from its origin until its division to produce two daughter cells. There are different forms of cell division: mitosis: an asexual division that produces daughter nuclei with the exact copies of the parent nuclei and Meiosis; cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes to produce specialized cells called gametes (sex cells) that produces half the number of chromosome of the parent cell. Cell cycle is divided in three major steps: interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis. During interphase step, the cell produces proteins particular cells need to function properly. Interphase is separated into three phases: G1 phase where most cell s organelles duplicate leading the cell to grow and expand, Synthesis phase where the DNA in the chromosome replicate, and G2 phase where the proteins are synthesized preparing mitosis for cell division. Due to the numerous activities going on, the cell spends a lot of time in interphase. Next major step of the cell cycle is the mitotic (M) phase, during which the cell splits into two distinct cells, often called daughter cells . Mitosis is accomplished during four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. During prophase, the replicated chromosomes condense, so they can move around freely, nuclear envelopes, the membrane that surrounds the nucleus scatters, and spindle protein structures called ... • 7. Deep Brain Stimulation Implantation ( Shin ) Implantation Deep Brain Stimulation Implantation Deep brain stimulation (DBS) implantation is a procedure to insert a wire (lead) into one or both sides of the brain in order to deliver electrical currents to an area causing problems. The lead is attached to a power source that is implanted under the skin near the collarbone, chest, or abdomen. This procedure may be done to treat various medical conditions, such as Parkinson disease, essential tremor, and other neurological conditions that cannot be controlled with medicines. Once implanted, the device can be used 24 hours per day. The intensity and frequency of the pulses are programmed for each individual and can be adjusted. The DBS device has three parts: A lead. This is a thin wire. It goes through one or two small openings in your skull. It delivers the electrical pulse. A power source. This is called the neurotransmitter. It is usually placed under the skin in the upper part of your collarbone, chest, or abdomen, similar to how a heart pacemaker is inserted. It is powered by a long lasting battery. An extension. This is a wire that connects the lead to the power source. The extension is passed under the skin of your head and neck and down to the power source. • 8. Severe Acute Kidney Injury Introduction Acute kidney injury (AKI) following cardiac surgery is a well known complication that occurs in up to 30% of patients(1,2). Severe acute renal failure, which requires renal replacement therapy, is associated with a very high mortality(60 100%) when treated with the usual intermittent hemodialysis(3 5) . However, the introduction of continuous renal replacement therapy has resulted in significant improvement in outcome as well reduction in mortality(1,5). One such form of continuous renal replacement is continuous venovenous hemofiltration(CVVH). CVVH treats uraemia and ultrafiltrate toxic proteins such as the myocardial depressant factor, thus it improves heart and lung functions in patients with ARF and cardiac shock after heart surgery(6,7). It offers better control of the patient s volume status and also avoids the hemodynamic instability associated with intermittent hemodialysis(4,7). Such modality of treatment was reported to be approximately 6% after CABG(8,9). It is essential to predict which group of patients would benefits from such intensive use of CVVH so as to use it more rationally(3). Based on many published studies, early use of CVVH is advocated to have better outcomes(3,7). However, its use has been criticized for being costly, resource intensive and virtually may not improve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. The Basic Parts That Make Up A Computer Lawson City Since you are looking to upgrade or purchase a new set of computers, I would like to discuss the basic parts that make up a computer. It is important for everyone to have a basic understanding of what makes a computer. As technology advances, it s important that you be able to make an educated decision on whether to upgrade or to replace your current systems. The difference can be a good deal of your hard earned money. Therefore, I will be detailing the Operating System, Processor, Memory, RAM, and a few other things that will help you make good decisions when purchasing new machines. Let s start with the Operating System. Chris Woodford describes the operating system as the core software in a computer that (essentially) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These computers date back to DOS, and Windows NT. Now we have multicore Processors, which allow us to run two or more tasks at the same time. Of course now days, you can surf the internet, write a word document, while listening to your favorite playlist on iTunes. We have come a really long way. The next thing we will discuss is Memory. Your hard drive allows you to store all the applications, programs, pictures, and any other data that you might like to save on your machine. Hard drives now come in many different sizes depending on your needs. They range from 100 GB to 3.9 Terabytes. The average home computer has 500 GB of memory. We also have Solid State Drives which are said to be more reliable because there is no spinning mechanism to worry about possibly failing. Now we must discuss the RAM (Random Access Memory). Even though this is wiped clean every time you shut down your computer, your random access memory stores the location of that data. Because of this, the CPU doesn t need to go back out to the address bus and find the data s location on your hard drive. It s like going to the library. If you need to know the definition of a word, you don t need to get up repeatedly, walk over to the shelf with the dictionary and open it to the corresponding page. Instead you can just take the dictionary off of the shelf and keep it at the table until you are done. Your RAM does the exact same thing, thus speeding up the process. Now, I ... • 10. Description about the Sensors in the Network . PROBLEM STATEMENT PROPOSED SCHEME This section gives the description about the sensors, respective public and private key pair model and event generation in the network. This is followed by the threat model of the network and the kind of adversaries which pose threat to the network. The design goals of the proposed scheme are also listed. Figure 1. Network model with attack scenario 1 System Model We consider the sensors S={S1,S2, S3, .....Sx} are deployed where x is the population of the deployed sensors. Nodes are assumed to be deployed in uniform random distribution. Prior to deployment, each sensor is assumed to be loaded with a public /private keypair (pi; si), for i = 1; 2; 3; 4;.....x. Among the public key cryptosystems available, we assume to used ID based public key cryptography. The event generation in the network, is considered to be random. Event is sensed by the neighboring sensor nodes where the event has occurred. These neighboring nodes will try to report the event occurred to the sink or base station through anonymous authentication, maintaining the privacy of the event as well as privacy of the nodes in terms of location and identity. So the neighboring nodes of the occurred event will form a ring signature groups addressing other selective nodes in the network. The size of the rings will depend on the number of neighboring nodes when the event has occurred. The payload of the messages will depend on the number of nodes in the anonymity set of ... • 12. The Enuma Elin Creation Theth Of The Enlonian Creation Myth The Enuma Elish is the Babylonian Creation Myth. Written on seven stone tablets, the poem describes the beginning of the universe as a separating of water from Chaos. Essentially, the universe begins in a chaos of swirling waters until, with time, the waters separate into Apsu and Tiamat. In response to this myth, the first book of Genesis was written during the Babylonian Exile. Genesis 1 introduces how Godcreated the world in six days and rested on the seventh. A reader can assume that the order might infer that the response was not of what order creation, but who the creator is and why he made creation into existence. The God in Genesis, through his peaceful speaking into the creation of the world and humanity, can be seen as humble, peaceful, and is mysterious. In Enuma Elish, the chaos and violence noted can make the reader infer that the gods are all powerful and they have to make creation right, but from the spoken mouth of God, all creation was good. An increasing number of residents in the United States are creating social media accounts and turning to these websites for quick access to political knowledge and social media companies are struggling to slow the spread of fake news. • 33. Gastric Digestion Research Paper 1. Firstly, the cracker enters the mouth. This is where the cracker is physically broken down by chewing, and chemical digestion of carbohydrates begins. Salivary glands in the mouth produce saliva which moistens dry food and contains salivary amylase, a digestive enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates. The cracker is then swallowed. Paristalsis (involuntary muscle contractions) push food down the esophagus. In the stomachthe cracker bathes it in gastric juices. Gastric juice is composed of three main parts; hydrochloric acid, mucus, and pepsin. Hydrochloric acid helps to digest the cracker chemically and protects the body by killing bacteria present in the cracker. From the right atrium the blood moves into the right ventricle through the AV valve. When the ventricles contract the blood is moves through the semilunar valve into the pulmonary artery. This artery then branches off into the left lung and the right lung so that the blood can become oxygenated. The oxygen rich blood returns to the left atrium of the heart through the pulmonary veins. 4. The kidneys filter the blood to remove wastes, like excess water, and produce urine. The ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra together form the urinary tract, which drain urine from the kidneys. They also store the urine then release it during urination. The kidneys filter metabolic wastes, excess ions, and chemicals from the blood to form urine. Gravity as well as peristalsis of muscle tissue in the walls of the ureters move urine toward the bladder. The ends of the ureters extend into the urinary bladder and are attached to the ureterovesical valves. These valves prevent urine from flowing back towards the kidneys. Microorganisms need to be classified, and identified in order to distinguish one species from another. Identification can isolate organisms that are disease agents, and enable physicians to make diagnosis s. It also enables physicians to choose the best treatment/antibiotics to address that specific organism. For example, some gram negative bacteriacan produce endotoxins when they die, which would be of concern to a doctor prescribing antibiotics. This technique identifies differences in a bacteria s cell wall. It utilizes crystal violet (primary stain), Gram s iodine (mordant), and safranin (counterstain). Most bacteria fall into two categories, Gram positive or gram negative. Gram positive bacteria have a thick layer of peptidoglycan, and techoic acids in their cell walls. This thick peptidoglycan layer retains the crystal violet stain, and displays the cells as a purple color under the microscope. Gram negative bacteria cell walls have significant differences from gram positive bacteria. Gram negative cells have a thin peptidoglycan layer, and do not have techie acids. They also have an outer membrane that is similar to the phospholipid bilayer of a cell membrance. These differences allow the crystal violet stain to rinse away from them, then they retain the safranin stain and appear reddish/pink under the microscope. Although it is very useful, it is not the only tooled needed to identify a bacteria. Some bacteria, are gram variable, displaying both positive and negative reactions. Other bacteria, such as Mycoplasmas, do not have a cell wall, rendering this test ineffective. Finally, it does not provide enough information alone to identify a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Analysis Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine Essay In Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich, many of the characters face expectations for their roles as Native Americans and as women on their reservation. One of these characters is Lulu, who experiences shaming because of her traditionalist view of Chippewa life and relationships with many men. She is continually fueled by a love and passion that guides her to contradict these expectations, often quite directly, even in the face of community gossip. Throughout the novel, Lulu defies expectations about Native Americans and her expected role as a woman, especially in relationships. This can be seen in her reactions to the government s appropriation of their land, against the community s shaming of her for her many romantic relationships, and ability to lead her family although she is expected to lose control over her many children. Lulu Lamartine actively fights against the government s appropriation of Native American land, disagreeing with the idea that it will improve their life and the expectation that Native Americans will be grateful for the sale. Lulu s ideas about the importance of living on their own land were first influenced by her family as a young adult. For example, she is told to sing my songs and then bury me high in a tree, Lulu, where I can see my enemies approach in the government cars (71). The United States government intervention in the lives of Native Americans is a continued point of tension throughout her life. Lulu has a distinct distrust of the United ... Many writers have attempted to find the words to express how the family of a lost loved one feels in the aftermath of such a terrible tragedy, but often they fail to fully grasp the emotionin their writing. Lin Manuel Miranda is not one of these writers. In his song, It s Quiet Uptown, from Hamilton, he beautifully portrays what its like trying to continue after losing someone one has never imagined having to let go. The song describes the life of Alexander Hamilton and his wife Eliza attempting to cope with the death of their eldest son, Philip. The beautiful language of the song and the vivid imagery in the lyrics clearly convey the emotions one feels after the sudden loss of a loved one and what it s like to watch people go through such a terrible time. The beautiful music and the emotion with which it is preformed provide an excellent medium through which to convey this message. The depth of Hamilton s grief is wonderfully portrayed in this piece of art. The first instance of this imagery is in the first lines. Angelica sings, There are moments that the words don t reach, There is suffering to terrible to name, You hold your child as tight as you can, And push away the unimaginable. The answer to this is unfortunately unknown, however that is not to suggest that conductors and their gestures don t make a difference. Gumm (2012) suggests that musicians actually synchronize more accurately in performance with an expressive conductor. Acklin (2009) notes that choirs perform with better precision without a conductor than with a strictly metric conductor (p. 26). Although research is limited in regards to the influence a conductor has over ensemble sound, it is comforting to know that this phenomenon is not just figurative, but simply unverified. Despite the limit of research in this field there are some studies that may explain rather specific implications of conducting gesture on ensemble sound. Again I would like to refer back to our use of physiological and psychological variables, but this time link them to conducting factors by conjoining physiological factors to technical and psychological to expressive factors. Gumm s (2012) article relays six basic functions of conducting and how these functions relate to either technical or expressive aspects of conducting. In crafting the 1994 ban, lawmakers mainly focused on 18 specific firearms, as well as certain military type features on guns. Certain models of AR 15s and AK 47s were banned. Any semiautomatic riflewith a pistol grip and a bayonet mount was an assault weapon (Plumer, 2012). During the ban, it was illegal to manufacture and sell the weapons listed above to be used by private citizens. They also regulated magazines, and they could now carry no more than 10 bullets.
