- To demonstrate this global appeal and adoption let’s look at PMI back in 1997. At this point in time, 93% of PMPs were located in North America and the remaining 7% were spread across the rest of the world, mainly between Europe and Asia Pacific.
- As just mentioned, PMI follows a rigorous development process for its certification and what is at the heart of that process are volunteers. [Click] PMI works with up to 950 volunteers each year at certification development meetings, translation validation meetings, and item writing/review meetings and so much more. [You can see highlighted here on the world map all the different places the Certification team has visited in the last few years to work with its volunteers…] [Click] PMI’s certifications would not exist without the thousands of volunteer hours provided by subject matter experts throughout the world who ensure balanced representation in the structure and content of the certification exams. Based on surveys of our volunteers, their motivation to participate stems from wanting to contribute to the development of the certifications and to meet and network with other PMI certification holders. Volunteer feedback: “The item writing process provides PMI with up-to-date practitioner perspective supported by written documentation. This process keeps the certification exams current and relevant.” Volunteer feedback: “The item writing process is well-thought out and thorough. Its rigorous checkpoints and reviews ensure consistent quality across all the exams. The consistent manner in which PMI manages the item review process is of the highest professionalism, quality and integrity.” Key point of the slide: PMI certifications are developed by practitioners, for practitioners. When you are out in the field and you are chatting with peers or even naysayers about the development process PMI employs, I am hopeful that the information shared from the last two slides speaks to the quality of our process and the commitment that PMI and our volunteers put forth to (1) differentiate our certifications from other certifications in the PPPM space (2) create certifications to appropriately reflect practice; and (3) align with the talent development and management needs of both practitioners and organizations alike! Our practitioners tell the real story of what is happening…
