BEGINNINGS
The Houndstooth is one of the oldest patterns in fashion. The pattern dates back
to the 1800's in Scotland and was originally only seen on hats.
The pattern has since grown and is now seen on blazers, skirts, scarves, pants,
coats, dresses, accessories and even nail art.
Anne Klien was one of the first designers to make women's suits in the iconic
pattern during the 1960's.
In the 1980's big designers like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Emporio Armani began
branding the pattern as their own signature fabric.
5. IMPORTANCE OF TREND
The Houndstooth pattern is a classic in Fashion and reappears traditionally in new
formats.
Aside from the Houdstooth pattern seen on the streets the pattern has graced many
designer runways this season including: Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Richard Chai. Tommy
Hilfiger, and Rag Bone
I believe the pattern has hit a new high this season, having seen the trend in retailers,
social media, and runways.
What also makes the pattern critical to fashion is that it can be worn casually, for a
night out, the office, or chic gown there is no limit on how you can wear the pattern.
7. HOUNDSTOOTH
Though the Houndstooth pattern seems very similar to a tweed they are very
much different.
Houndstooth is a smooth two-toned pattern of broken checks . The checks are
made by alternating bands of vertical and horizontal black and white checks of
woven pattern.
Houndstooth is also recognized as a symbol of identification in the culinary
world. British chefs traditionally wore Houndstooth chef garments
The importance of Houndstooth pattern is one that stretch over centuries. The
traditional pattern reappears in fashion from time to time, and continuers to be a
staple in fashion for years to come.
