Hot fuzz opening 2 minutes evaluation
- 1. Joey Pinder Film Opening - Hot Fuzz There is a variety of shots used within this clip. The close-upsand medium shots used show who the main character is and shows his emotionand his overall emotional state because the close-ups really show his emotion.There aren’t many long/ establishing shots showing that the area/ location is really close, compact and busy. The editing throughout the clip is fast paced and in a montage fashion. This is because if it was to show all of the main characters highlightsand life the film would take weeks. By having in a montage it shortens the length and keep the audience engaged and interested.The intensity of the cuts show that the main characters life is fast paced and full of action which makes further emphasishis success and greatness as he can easily deal with it and further still succeed. The sound in the clip is a mix of both diegeticand non-diegetic.This exaggeratescertain sounds e.g. when he is in the car the loud tired shrieks and skids show the speed and intensity of his driving. The diegeticsounds link the audience to the clip as they are sounds that they may be very familiar with and exposed to in their everyday life.This allows the audience to connect with the character and film as they feel as if they have something in common. There is loads of Mise-En-Scene in the clip. The propshelp show the position and danger of the character’s job/life.For example,when he is seen shooting a gun shows that there is much danger as he needsa firearm to protect himself. The blocking/ performance really highlightswho the main character is as (Simon Pegg) is always seen at the front in clear view of the camera which sends a subliminal message to the audience that he present and the highlight of every shot. The lighting in the clip was semi-low key to semi-high key which shows the contrast of environmentsto which the character will face. The costume shows the audience its set in moderntime as it is a present day police uniform. It is smart implying to the audience that the character is a well presented and looked after, possibly respected person.
