Gypsy horses are around 15.3 hands tall and similar in size to paint horses, originating from England and Ireland. Paint horses descended from Spanish horses brought to America and were used by Native Americans as war horses. The author has two miniature horses named Gracie and Martini, who are typically 27 to 30 inches tall. Draft horses are usually used for driving but smaller drafts can be ridden; quarter horses are used for rodeo events and other riding; and Friesian horses are one of the oldest European breeds used for riding, farming, and cavalry. The Morgan horse was the first American breed and was favored in the Civil War for being loyal, calm under fire, and able to march and pull artillery all day.
