This article examines how a superintendent can effectively respond to and shape school culture. It uses the example of John Stanford, the late superintendent of Seattle Public Schools. When he took over, morale was low but he was able to turn the district around by becoming actively involved in schools and communicating effectively with students, staff, and the community. He empowered teachers and established clear academic goals and accountability. By developing trust and cooperation, the superintendent was able to create and sustain a positive culture that improved student outcomes.

This document summarizes a study that examined the effects of language support programs on Hispanic student achievement. The study analyzed standardized test score data from 381 Texas school districts with at least 20% Hispanic students. Kritsonis' Philosophy Inventory
Currently, Dr. Kritsonis is Professor of Educational Leadership at Prairie View A&M University – Member of the Texas A&M University System. He teaches in the PhD Program in Educational Leadership. Dr. Kritsonis taught the Inaugural class session in the doctoral program at the start of the fall 2004 academic year. In October 2006, Dr. Kritsonis chaired the first doctoral student to earn a PhD in Educational Leadership at Prairie View A&M University. On-demand video streaming is undoubtedly one of the biggest successes of the past few years. What used to be a text or HTML oriented Internet about 10 years ago has now become overrun by rich media content clones from the likes of YouTube. Despite this success, delivering rich media content is still a complex and expensive affair. This presentation is an overview of our work with the BBC, one of the largest content providers in the UK, on how to decrease their network footprint. This is an ongoing research project, funded by EPSRC in the UK.

The Christian Science Publishing Society handles all publishing operations for the Christian Science Church. It publishes several periodicals, including the Christian Science Monitor, a daily newspaper, as well as weekly and monthly magazines. The project involves digitizing all back issues of these publications by scanning and converting articles to XML format in order to make the entire archives available online through a new digital platform. The goals are to grant subscribers access to the content while also allowing free sharing and access to selected articles. The project will use an agile methodology with phases and sprints to develop the new system incrementally.

We focused on four key areas - Product, Process, People, and Technology - to find our lost mojo and transform our digital capabilities. For Product, we defined a mobile-first, video, data-driven, audio, and AI-focused strategy. For Process, we established an Agile product lifecycle and roadmapping process. For People, we attracted new talent and created high-performing delivery squads. For Technology, we introduced a flexible infrastructure to rapidly develop and deliver products. As a result, we released engaging digital products, established clear roadmaps, created a high-performing team, and built a scalable platform.

COBWEB technology platform and future development needs, ISPRA 2016
COBWEB is a European Commission-funded research project that developed a generic crowdsourcing infrastructure called the Citizen Observatory Web. The COBWEB framework allows for co-design of mobile applications to collect environmental data from citizens. It provides tools for quality assurance of citizen-sourced data and publishing data using open standards. The project is working to open source components of the COBWEB framework and synchronize work with other groups to promote adoption of geospatial standards for citizen science data.

Surviving in a Microservices environment -abridged
Many presentations on Microservices offer a high-level view; rarely does one hear what it’s like to work in such an environment. Individual services are somewhat trivial to develop, but now you suddenly have countless others to track. You’ll become obsessed over how they communicate. You’ll have to start referring to the whole thing as “the Platform”. You will have to take on some considerable DevOps work and start learning about deployment pipelines, metrics, and logging.
Don’t panic. In this presentation we’ll discuss what we learned over the past four years by highlighting our mistakes. We’ll examine what a development lifecycle might look like for adding a new service, developing a feature, or fixing bugs. We’ll see how team communication is more important than one might realize. Most importantly, we’ll show how - while an individual service is simple - the infrastructure demands are now much more complicated: your organization will need to introduce and become increasingly dependent on various technologies, procedures, and tools - ranging from the ELK stack to Grafana to Kubernetes. Lastly, you’ll come away with the understanding that your resident SREs will become the most valued members of your team.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
