Blackbourn, two unique organizational communication systems blackbourn-done focusWilliam Kritsonis
Two unique organizational communication systems are described that were designed to facilitate feedback and continuous improvement. The "Who has the Dean's Ear?" suggestion box at a university's School of Education received an average of 60 submissions per month over four years. The "Express to the Top" program at a local business encouraged employee feedback and suggestions to improve communication and performance. Both systems provided a simple, novel way for internal and external stakeholders to give input and received a personal response, which helped generate ongoing participation. The article recommends such feedback systems as models for enhancing organizational communication and service.

This document summarizes research on the effects of labeling students as "learning disabled" from 1970 to 2000. Four main themes emerged from synthesizing 34 relevant studies:
1) The learning disabled label can negatively impact teachers' expectations, attitudes, and stereotypes of students. Lower expectations may lead to reduced effort and achievement.
2) Students labeled as learning disabled may experience stigmatization, rejection, and social isolation from both teachers and peers. They report being treated differently and facing embarrassment.
3) There is some inconsistency in how the label influences actions versus attitudes. While the label may negatively shape views, it does not always clearly impact behaviors toward students.
4) The influence of the learning disabled label depends
This document discusses two models of decision making - the rational model and bounded rationality model. The rational model involves 6 sequential steps: 1) identifying the problem, 2) generating alternatives, 3) evaluating alternatives, 4) choosing an alternative, 5) implementing the decision, and 6) evaluating effectiveness. However, the bounded rationality model recognizes limitations in people's rationality. Decisions are made at all levels in schools and affect outcomes. Effective problem identification, consideration of alternatives, implementation, and evaluation are essential for quality decision making.

This article provides guidelines for developing effective survey instruments for research purposes. It recommends keeping surveys short (1-2 pages), establishing clear goals for the survey, and determining an appropriate sample to survey. The article outlines 10 key things to consider, such as including "don't know" options, sequencing questions logically, and using a variety of question types like multiple choice, open-ended, and rating scales. Following these tips can help researchers efficiently gather accurate data through surveys to inform decision-making.

This document summarizes Ayn Rand's philosophical views on selfishness from her book The Virtue of Selfishness. It discusses how Rand believes that ethics guide one's choices and actions in life. The purpose of the essay is to discuss when selfishness can be considered right or wrong according to the circumstances. It explores Rand's philosophy of "Objectivism" which holds that reality exists independently of consciousness and that individuals can pursue their own rational self-interest through laissez-faire capitalism. The essay aims to show that people have a right to be selfish depending on their situation as long as it is not at the expense of others' well-being.

This document discusses the use of problem-based learning (PBL) in teacher education programs. It describes two PBL case studies used in math methods and reading courses.
For the math methods course, the PBL case involves preservice teachers developing solutions for secondary students struggling with math concepts. This allows teachers to deepen their understanding of math pedagogy and standards.
For the reading course, case studies of fictional students with reading difficulties require preservice teachers to design intervention plans. This gives them practice applying reading research to real-world situations.
The document argues that PBL prepares teachers better than traditional lectures by providing authentic problem-solving experiences. This equips teachers with the skills needed to be leaders
