1. HOPE NOW State Housing Report
Report Summary
HOPE NOW collects industry data from mortgage servicing members on a monthly
basis. The data collected represents about 70% of the national mortgage market. HOPE
NOW extrapolates this data for the entire industry using the Mortgage Bankers
Association National Delinquency Survey, in order to create an accurate representation of
the US housing market and identify trends within the industry.
Below you will find a summary of the HOPE NOW National Data report along with a
state specific breakdown of the local housing market. In addition, you will also find a
summary of the Homeowner’s HOPE Hotline national and state specific activity.
Homeowner’s HOPE Hotline 888-995-HOPE
Nationwide: In 2011, the Homeownership Preservation Foundation received 1,032,448
calls and completed 244,118 counseling sessions with homeowners. In the 4th Quarter of
2011, the Hotline received 242,103 calls and completed 54,763 counseling sessions with
borrowers.
California: From January 2011 through December 2011, 177,313 California residents
called the HOPE Hotline, which resulted in 44,310 completed counseling sessions.
HOPE NOW: Data on Loan Workouts
Nationwide: 21 HOPE NOW servicers covering almost two-thirds of the mortgage
industry, both prime and subprime loans, provided the data for December 2012. More
than 15.8 million homeowners have received loan workouts since July 2007. Since July
2007 through December 2012, HOPE NOW servicers helped homeowners avoid
foreclosure by completing more than 15,879,414 mortgage solutions; this includes over
5.2 million proprietary and HAMP loan modifications.
HOPE NOW: Data on Loan Workouts
California: In 2011, California completed 82,749 proprietary (non-HAMP)
modifications for homeowners and 68,138 HAMP permanent modifications. This
combined for a total of 150,887 statewide. The average loan count of 2011 in California
was 4,925,772. This count resulted in an average delinquency rate (MBA) of 6.40%.
There were also a total of 83,476 repayment plans initiated throughout California in
2011.
