● Through this exercise we plan on asking the students to think through scenarios and
suggest solutions from a manager’s perspective.
Businesses
Group #1: Forever 21
● There have been complaints on the stores display convenience, people can't find the
right size or clothing type since all the products are placed by order date.
● How should you respond, as a manager, to the store’s organization and staff training
during service?
● Please create different types of products and training methods you could use for the
store.
Group #2: Bath and Body Works
● Today is December 27. Christmas scents, Halloween lotions, unpopular soaps, and
various antibacterial minis are not being sold. As a manager you need to save some
profit, and make sure they sell.
● What do you do?
● Include marketing ideas or thoughts on redistribution and store design.
Group #3: Nike
● You have received complaints from top management about sales in the women’s
department for the past three periods. Top management has suggested downsizing or
redesign.
● As a manager of marketing and design what advertising solutions do you suggest?
● Include people or messages that could be used, as well as possible target markets not
thought of before.
Group #4: Subway
● Quiznos has just opened up across the way from you in the mall. People are flocking to
their grand opening offering.
● How can you, as a manager, keep customer loyalty or attract new business?
● Think of portion changes, possible deals, advertising.
2. Group #5: GameStop
● Research has shown your store has only two top selling game categories which make
up 80% of your profit. Games including car racing and military inspired scenarios make
up the top selling categories. As a manager you are also responsible for the sale of
games in other categories, such as sports, music and party, and puzzles.
● The franchise owner says that they want to increase sales in their music and party
category.
