Hoang Giang Agarwood Co. Ltd is a Vietnamese company that extracts agarwood oil through hydro distillation. HOANG GIANG AGARWOOD CO. LTD is a company with a closed activity
field in manufacturing and trading of agarwood: from planting Aquilaria
Crassna, transplanting agarwood on Aquilaria trees to manufacturing
Agarwood products.
AGARWOOD OIL
Agarwood (gaharu, eaglewood, aloeswood, oud, chenxiang and jinkoh)
is a fragrant and highly valuabe wood found in Aquilaria species of the
Thymelaeaceae family. There are 15 species of agarwood, but mostly
three species are found: Aquilaria crassna, A. subintegra and A.
malaccensis.

in the world due to the fragrance inducing compounds it contains.

MATERIALS AND METHODS
Plant material: The wood of Aquilaria crassna was obtained from
Hoang Giang Agarwood Co. Ltd, Vietnam. The plants were grown for 7
– 8 years before resin activiated for 2 - 3 years and then harvested. The
wood was dried before being milled.

5. HYDRO DISTILLATION PROCESS
Hydro distillation is used in the manufactured and extraction of essential
oil. This is the simplest and usually the cheapest process of distillation.
In distillation, the plant material is heated. The heat and steam cause the
cell structure of the plant material to burst and break down, thus freeing
the essential oils. The essential oil molecules and steam are carried along
a pipe and channeled through a cooling tank, where they return to the
liquid form and are collected in a vat. The emerging liquid is a mixture of
oil and water, and since essential oils are not water soluble they can be
easily separated from the water and siphoned off. Essential oils which are
lighter than water will float on the surface.
