Abstract
When attempting to identify as a professional counselor, it is important to understand the basic
elements of counseling as it pertains to individual specializations. The wellness model and the key
philosophies of the counseling profession: wellness, resilience and prevention are examined. The
ability to articulate the roles and characteristics to understand how they relate to the different
professional roles is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) is an organization of professionals who
focus on addiction counseling. The NAADAC prides itself on four main roles: professional
development, public engagement, professional services and to communicate its mission. The
organization will aide in professional development by providing the most current education and
training to ensure counselors are adopting the newest evidence based practices in their work
(Tuohy, C., n.d. para. 2). NAADAC also provides mentorship and a career path, which are always
essential for continued growth. While the NAADAC is directed towards addiction professionals;

Methods Of Using Stratified Sampling Essay
Procedure This present study utilized two self report surveys administered to inmates within state
run prisons in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia. The
participating facilities and the inmates were selected utilizing stratified sampling. From the total
number of facilities (126), fifty facilities were randomly selected. The facilities were selected by
grouping them into different security levels (maximum, medium, and minimum) and were all
given a number and selected using a random number generator. Lists of all the inmates were
collected from the facilities and 10,000 male inmates were randomly selected to be surveyed.
They were selected by grouping the inmates by classification level (general population,
protective custody, and segregation). Each of these inmates were given a number and a random
number generator was utilized to randomly select participants. Stratified sampling was utilized
because it ensures that the researcher collect a more representative sample by using different
security level facilities and different custody levels of inmates as a sampling frame. The
participants were surveyed twice over a period of one year; the surveys were mailed out to the
facilities and were self administered to the participants. Participants had three weeks to complete
and mail the survey back to the research facility using the return envelope provided. The survey
response rate was sixty five percent of those surveyed and included

Taking a Look at India s Geography
Did you know that India is the second most populated country in the world with over 1.2 billion
people? This heavily populated country s history and culture was, and still is, affected by its
geography. For example, The Ganges River provided some irrigation, but was mostly known for its
religious significance in the Hindu faith. The Indus Riverprovided fertile land for the Indus Valley
civilization and allowed agriculture to flourish, but also flooded, which was part of the
civilization s economical weakening. Another factor that which brought the fall of the
civilization was the Hindu Kush Mountain Range; although it provided some protection, paths
were discovered by invaders that permitted them to cross over and quell. The Ganges River, a
wide and slow paced river, starting from the mountain tops, then through the Gangetic Plain, and
finally empties into the Bay of Bengal ( Ganges River ). The fertile Gangetic Plain was where
settlements and developing cities during prehistoric times because it was stable agriculturally (
Geography ). Despite the fact that the Ganges brought great fertility, it is also known as the most
holy and sacramental river in the Hindu religion. The river is personified as a goddess, Ganga,
who was sent from heaven to purify cursed and sinful souls; she was caught in the snowy
Himalayan peaks of Shiva s hair , then escapes by flowing down the mountain into the sea and
finally purified more than 60,000 souls (Watts). Due to this myth, people

There Are Many Beneficial Reasons Behind Eating Meat
There are many beneficial reasons behind eating meat. Some believe that red meat causes cancer
and contributes to heart complications. However, there is plenty of nutritional gain that a persons
body can benefit from by simply adding meat into their weekly diet regimens . Meat contains large
amounts of protein, which the body needs in order to develop and maintain muscle mass. Not only
does meatcontain protein, it additionally contains iron, and zinc that a person s body essentially
needs to help improve their overall health.
Sources of meat contain a large amount of protein, which your body needs for numerous
reasons. Every human body is made up of 20% protein including amino acids that are the
building blocks of it. In that 20% in which your body is made up with protein, one of the ways
the amino acids are being used is to produce blood, skin, blood, hormones, and cartilage
throughout the body. Consuming animal meat also helps your muscles stay healthy by simply
breaking the protein down into amino acids, which is then transported throughout the blood
stream. Throughout this process, the amino acids are then delivered to different parts of the body.
One of those areas is which to be the muscles that will then begin to absorb the molecules. Once
the molecules are absorbed, the body will then begin to heal and repair the muscle. The amino
acids that your body breaks down from protein found in red meat, aids in the healing of wounds not
only in the muscle as stated

Shawn Fanning, Creator of Napster, Changed the Music Industry
Shawn Fanning, an 18 year old Northwestern University dropout, never thought he would be the
one to change the music industry forever. What started out as hours of code to figure out a way
to share music with his roomate, soon turned into the program that the world was buzzing about.
His idea was simple, to create a program where users were able to share filers over a central
server, specifically music files. This became known as Napster. Napster, which was created in
1999, became an internet sensation in the blink of an eye. It was a free file sharing community
that involved millions of users. Napster linked numbers computers to a centralized server, which
was accessible to almost anyone that had access to the internet. When logged onto the server,
users could see music files along with their location, and begin to download them to their
computer library. Users had the ability to search for music on peoples computers around the world.
However, Napster faced a long road ahead of them dealing with copyrightviolation accusations.
Yes, these allegations from recording companies, in this case A M Records, would soon be the
ones responsible for the termination of this short lived, but powerful corporation. As a marketing
major and entrepreneurship minor, or even as a student taking this Business Law class, I can learn
a lot from this case. In August 1999, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) was
one of the firsts to warn Napster of all that lay ahead. They

Critique Of The s Theory
Critique of Experiment 2
Many experiment fall folly due to the many factors they need to get correct. Like most studies the
practitioner needs to create a hypothesis that is actually testable and test it on a group of people
they can get. The participants are the foundation to the whole study. With them you are able to
prove whether your hypothesis was correct or not. These and many more factors are why
psychological studies are incredibly to execute and do properly.
The hypothesis of this study states, Participants who had been primed with the elderly stereotype
would walk more slowly compared to participants who had not been primed with the stereotype
relevant stimuli . This basically means that the experimenter believes that words related to the
elderly population and none related will affect the rate in which the participants walk. Their
hypothesis seems achievable because in my experiences I find that we as people relate to word
association and because of this our behaviors can be slightly modified to match the words
presented. This hypothesis is seems testable because it doesn t seem completely absurd due to the
actual experiment they planned to conduct.
In this specific study, they are aiming to construct an environment where participants will have to
unscramble words either related to elderly concepts or non elderly concepts. The participants
chosen from this study were all Undergraduate NYU students, 30 males and females. I think each
participant qualifies

Social And Economic Development Of Rio De Janeiro
3) The Dashed Hopes of UPP Social (and its counterparts) The overall aim of the UPP is to
integrate the favelas to the larger city (World Bank 2012). Once the community was pacified, the
government could enter and provide goods and services. Therefore, since its origin, the program
UPP Social was subordinated to the UPPs, meaning that only pacified favelas would receive it
(Bentsi Enchill, Goodenough and Berger 2015). In partnership with UN Habitat, UPP Social was
meant to accomplish the following aims: contribute to the consolidation of the peace process and
the promotion of local citizenship in pacified territories; promote urban, social and economic
development; carry out the full integration of these areas into the city (Rio Mais... Show more

This explains why they overwhelmingly support Lula and Dilma Rousseff in the current political
and economic crisis, unlike the rest of the population (Caulyt and Malkes 2016; Favela 247 2016).
However, due to the rising living costs in the pacified favelas (Oosterban and Van Hijk 2015), the
Bolsa FamГlia does not provide a support that would be sufficient to overcome clientelism.
Moreover, the Bolsa FamГlia is often blamed for not giving voice to civil society (Hevia 2011),
therefore participatory policies are generally preferred. Residents Awareness and Participation in
the Elaboration of Projects Residents are overall unaware of the activities undertaken by UPP
Social. They associate it with social events organized by the UPPs. As a consequence, many
residents did not want to take part in the activities, as they associated UPP Social with the police.
To overcome the misunderstandings, the program was renamed Rio + Social in 2014 (Fernandes
2014). However, the change in name did not improve the services offered, and residents views are
not taken into account when mapping needs of the community. Evidence from interviews showed
that few residents could describe was doing for their community. Indeed, it appears that the program
is limited to the organization of social events. For example, Mirian, Human

Madame Gres Research Paper
Auction data also supports the claims that Madame GrГЁs was most successful later in her
career. Her most expensive dress sold was from when she was 57 years old and sold for $9,020.
The second most expensive was from when she was 62 and sold for $8,450. The auction data
also shows that of the 31 dresses observed, only 4 items came from before the age of 47. This is
consistent with the fact that experimental designers produce their best work later in their careers.
Madame GrГЁs has inspired many designers today. One of her most prominent followers is Doo
Ri Chung, who creates a similar type of draping jersey dress shown on runways today.

party but a celebration of freedom symbolizing an end as well as a beginning signifying renewal

For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms

Introduction Over the years women have struggled with wanted and unwanted pregnancies. Planned
parenthood and not ?planned parenthood? has become a choice for some women. Variables will
come into affect for each of theses women and certain circumstances will effect their decision to
have an abortion or not to have an abortion. The populations in the research are women from
sixteen to twenty nine with information including ethical dilemmas, society influence, religious
backgrounds, health issues, sexual activity, substance abuse, rape, financial issues, family
/relationship dynamics, long term implications with physical and mental affects and legal
ramifications and acts will be covered in this paper. The research will have statistics, evidenced
based facts and legal documented court decisions, physical and mental health issues with
interventions. Plan for change will be a consideration to help with this topic of abortion. My
question is as follows: In the patient population, ages sixteen to twenty nine, how does abortion
with the FDA approved pill compare to manual extraction with the way it affects the physical and
mental health of the female patient

Descartes’ Cogito Argument Successfully Shows the Evil...
Does Descartes Cogito argument successfully show that the Evil Demon Argument is unsound?
In this essay I will attempt to show that the philosopher, RenГЁ Descartes Cogito Argument
successfully proves the Evil Demon Argument to be unsound. By an analysis of the structure of
the arguments and what they prove, I will show the evil demon argument to be unsound. An
argument is unsound when the premises as false and the argument is invalid. This analysis of
both structure and content will eventuate in objections on the aforementioned categories. To take
any of Descartes arguments in consideration I have to understand why he started his meditations
in order to prove Gods existence and to gain clear and distinct knowledge. At the same time of
his first meditation he was engaged in a raging war within Europe and lost some his close family
members (Smith, K., 2014), he too was at risk of death all because of certain religious beliefs. It
is easy to understand that he wrote all of his meditations in order for himself to be sure of dying
for what he believed in. Descartes first meditation works in three stages: at first he tries to show
that he does not have any empirical knowledge, meaning he does not have any knowledge based
on his senses since he proved that his senses could possibly be deceiving him. He then says that it
does not rule out his a priori knowledge which is knowledge that does not require observation or
experience but it is rather mathematical

Steroid Aromatization
A little bit about steroids: aromatizing and not only
A little bit about steroids: aromatizing and not only.Prolonged use of steroids can lead to increased
levels of estradiol in the blood and as a consequence of it to aromatization. I note here that this
property have only the so called aromatizable steroids. Testosterone is considered to have the
biggest incline to this process, of course. The second place occupies such a steroid as
methandrostenolone. Boldenone and flyuksimetreon have more weak property of
aromatization. There are steroids that can be converted to estradiol without the process of
aromatization, these include nandrolone, norethandrolone and ethylestrenol. However, it makes no
significant relief, and the level of estrogen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I mean the drugs that can cause excessive accumulation of fluid in the area of the men nipples

following. Is it possible that the level of estrodiol in the blood of a men will rise even with a
short term use of steroid drugs? No it is not possible. As with any side effect, this defect requires
prolonged use or overdose. And the last thing I would like to discuss each person has an individual
reaction to the estrogens in the blood because we are all different as banal as it may sound, some
people even have immunity to the process of aromatization, and some on the contrary may be
particularly inclined to this problem.Restoring the natural balance.Lets finish with the theory and
go back to what we actually started with and what I wanted to tell you about, that is to anti
estrogens. It is a mistake to assume that anti estrogen is a drug created specifically for men, as if it
was created to suppress the development of the feminine in men. The situation is quite opposite,
originally anti estrogens were created for women who had problems with an excess of estrogen in
their bodies. For example, particularly large

Economic Policy Change in Soviet Union From 1941 to 1986...
Economic Policy Change in Soviet Union From 1941 to 1986 The period 1941 1986 saw little
change in the Russian economy, although attempts were made at reform by Khrushchev, for
example, with his Virgin Lands scheme. I believe that economic policy did not change between
the years 1941 1986 but the change was often quickly reversed and change was not carried out to a
great enough extent to have any significant bearing on the development of the Russian economy.
Russia was almost destroyed by the efforts needed to sustain a war. Even though the first, second

The need for labour and troops was intense and between 1941 and 1944 the gulag population
decreased by two fifths. Able bodied men were conscripted from the collectives and women
were left to care for the farms. Grain production fell from 95 million tons in 1940 to 30 million
tons in 1942. This was a huge drop, and famine was common, particularly in the Ukraine and
Siberia, where loss of life was most severe. The more relaxed attitude of Stalin during the wars
years had nurtured a belief that life would be easier and less repressed after the war. However,
this proved not to be the case. The Fourth Five Year Plan was intended to restore Russia s pre war
reputation as an industrial power. Industrial production recovered quickly, mainly through the use
of over 2 million slave labourers. The rigid centralised economy imposed by Stalin was useful in
this instance as it became easier to organise workers and factories. The Fifth Five Year Plan was
concentrated slightly more on the consumer industries, helping to improve living conditions in
Russia. The relaxation of Stalinist policy meant that although rigid central control was retained,
Party power was weakened in the countryside. When Khrushchev came to power in 1953, he
inherited the rigid centralised economy symbolic with the Stalinist era. In 1956

Educational shaming is when society looks down on you if you decide to take a route in life
that does not involve college, or does not involve a 4 year degree or higher. It has also come to a
point in this society, if you do not go to college right after high school and do not graduate within
4 years you are looked down upon by employers. We put a college degree over productive work
career. When employers should start looking to see if you are eligible for a laboring job (and
other careers that do not need schooling) by your learning potential, motivation, integrity, and
mental ability instead of a piece of paper that tells your education and job experience. We are
setting up future generations for disaster if we don t help make a change. We are starting to
believe that the American Dream is all about a white collard job and a college degree. (Ted

but only 7 million of those require a degree. (Ted Talks) Since every person is different not
everyone will be ready for college at 18 and not every student will have the fast learning ability or
money to graduate in 4 years. Changing the way society thinks is way easier said than done.

Taming Of The Shrew Research Paper
In the play taming of the shrew and 10 things I hate about you, I believe relationships are shown
differently because in 10 things I hate about you relationships are shown through just dating out of

Good And Evil In Thomas Malory s Le Morte D Arthur
In the excerpts from Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, King Arthur is a complex character with
both good and poor traits. Arthur maintains his symbolic representation of good throughout the tale,
but Malory crafts Arthur s character in such a way that his weaknesses, or bad traits, shed a rather
mortal light upon his character. These weaknesses, combined with the greatness of Arthur, are
eventually what gives way to the downfall of Arthur. His bad traits reflect much of what we see
in ourselves. Though Arthur is a noble, great, and powerful character, it does not mean that he
may not be a flawed character as well. Arthur, throughout the tales, often falls victim to his own
mortal whims. He is often shortsighted and reckless in his decision making. An example of this
is in Malory s Arthur and Pellinore story from Le Morte d Arthur, Tell me, said Merlin, Do you
prefer the sword or the scabbard? The sword, said Arthur. You are a fool, said Merlin. The scabbard
is worth ten of the sword, because while you wear it, regardless of how seriously you are wounded,

His courage and skill is exemplified by this quote from Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, If King Arthur
s army were the smaller, their courage was the higher, confident they were of the righteousness of
their cause. Without sting they battled through the burning ships, the screaming wounded, and the
corpses floating on the bloodstained waters. Once ashore, they put Sir Mordred s entire army to
flight (232). The fact that these men s strength and spirit are powered by the belief in King Arthur
as their true king, even though they are outnumbered and more vulnerable, is a great indication of
Arthur s inspiring strength. Arthur is a true, just, and courageous leader. Not only is Arthur

Characteristics and Impacts of American Reconstruction Essay
Characteristics and Impacts of American Reconstruction The key goals of Reconstruction were to
readmit the South into the Union and to define the status of freedmen in American society. The
Reconstruction era was marked by political, not violent, conflict. Some historical myths are that the
South was victimized by Reconstruction, and that the various plans of Reconstruction were corrupt
and unjust. Actually, the plans were quite lenient, enforcing military rule for only a short period of
time, ignoring land reform, and granting pardons easily. The task of Reconstruction was to re
integrate America into a whole nation, securing the rights of each man and establishing order once
again. There were three major Reconstruction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under Johnson s plan, fifty percent of the voters in each Southern state who had voted in the 1860
election had to take an oath of loyalty to the Union. Then, each state was required to write new
constitutions adopting the 13th amendment (Boyer, 444). Johnson repudiated Confederate war
debts, and he also supported Black Codes. Johnson seemed sympathetic to Southern opinion at the
expense of freedmen s rights. He took steps to insure a dependant black work force for the South,
and restricted the rights of African Americans . Freedmen were not allowed to marry interracially,
perform jury duty, or give testimony in court against whites. Johnson s plan was fatally flawed; his
requirement that each state adopt the 13th amendment was practically useless as it only dealt with
Federal elections. State elections were more important to citizens during the Reconstruction era, and
unless Johnson guaranteed State voting rights to freedmen he was offering them hardly anything at
all. Also, Johnson supported Black Codes against Northern public opinion, which damaged him
politically in the North. Finally, Johnson did not deal with land reform or economic aid, which was
economically unsound. In Congress, the Radicals and Moderates were forced to join forces to
overturn Johnson s extremely lenient plan. Caught up in battles with Congress and an impeachment
scandal until he left office, Johnson did not achieve his Reconstruction goals. Congress

Swinburne s Rebuttal To The Substantial Problem Of Evil In...
I posit that God if [He] does exist is ageless, timeless, omniscient, and omnipresent insofar as He
exists in a dimension outside time and three dimensional space. Because of that, and given the
limits of epistemic accessibility, it seems rather impossible to say with certainty what about God is
objectively true. In fact, to say anything more than that outside of what is possibly or probably the
case concerning God, is akin to poetry, a series of metaphors characterizing a hyper dimensional
being. In fact, it seems odd to attach a gender to the Divine, much less an anthropomorphic form
with such certainty. From hereafter, I propose that we refer to God as either an It or, if one felt so
inclined, seeing as only a mother could incubate life prior to birth, I propose... Show more content

Thereafter, I will attempt to show the falseness of each view in two ways. First, I will present
my theory of knowledge that is currently under development, and which intuits with the limits
of human three dimensional perception. Given the early stages of my developing epistemic
theory, I shall enlist the help of an established epistemic tool in Stephen Wykstra s Condition of
Reasonable Epistemic Access (CORNEA), a principle that intends to serve as an answer to both
Rowe and Swinburne, albeit mostly the latter. Finally, I will briefly explicate a multiverse
solution to the problem of evil whereby I will attempt to show how a multiverse could on
appearances satisfy the conditions set by both the theist and the atheist in a manner that is
conceivable by both able to be understood by the intellect as well as the senses so as to serve as
an anti metaphor. In fact, I aim to show that my prima facie proposal for a multiverse theodicy
could give at least prima facie satisfaction to Richard Swinburne s Christian based

A Critique of the Behavioural Theories of Learning
A CRITIQUE OF THE BEHAVIOURAL THEORIES OF LEARNING One of the most debated
issues in psychology pertains to the nature and meaning of learning. The systematic study of
learning is relatively new as it was in the late nineteenth century that studies in this realm began in a
scientific manner. Psychologists borrowed techniques from the physical sciences, and conducted
experiments to understand how people and animals learn. Psychologists have tried in the past to
define and explain how learning takes place. Two of the most important early researchers were
Ivan Pavlov and Edward Thorndike. Among later researchers, B. F. Skinner was important for his
studies of the relationship between behaviour and consequences. They are also known... Show more

They found as reported by Myers D.G, that half a second works well. However if the food i.e. the
unconditioned stimulus (UCS) appeared before the bell, the conditioned stimulus (CS), then
conditioning is not likely to occur. The bell signals the arrival of food. Pavlov called this the law
of contiguity: The closer the two are in time (with neutral stimulus preceding presentation of
UCS), the stronger the conditioning (generally speaking) Extinction. This concept is similar to
common sense idea of forgetting. Pavlov found that when he sounded the tone repeatedly without
presenting food, the dog s salivation also decreased. After the conditioning phase, the
conditioned response (CR) gets weaker when the conditioned stimulus (CS) or the bell is not
accompanied by the UCS (food). It gets weaker not because the organism no longer remembers
the UCS CS connection. It gets weaker because CR is somehow inhibited. Spontaneous recovery.
After extinction trials, the dog will start to salivate again in response to CS after only one pairing
of UCS and CS. Pavlov called it spontaneous recovery, where the weakened conditioned response
reappeared after a rest pause. This according to Pavlov occurred because extinction was suppressing
the conditioned response and not eliminating it. (Myers D.G. p 295) Generalization. Generalization

Artificial Intelligence Is Identified By Many Aspects
AI: Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence is identified by many aspects. Some would say that
it is the ability to mimic or resemble human behavior in all of its forms (Unknown, 2016). What
would the implications of Artificial Intelligence mean to the existing definitions and moral
conundrums people find themselves in. These simple processes to us raise many questions. How is
humanity defined? The ability to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings help define humanity
and the perceptions held by them. Lying is the unique ability specific to humanity and is universally
understood as not telling the truth. Note that there are different variations of lies that require some
level of conceptual processing. White Lies are a good example of this, as they represent many
different facets of human thought and emotion. Should the ability to deviate from factual
information be given to Artificial Intelligence and what would the ramifications that can befall a lie.
This is a question that humanity should ask itself, as it should not be left to one person or sect to
decide. By teaching software to lie it can potentially give birth to something that may not be able to
understand the social concept of right and wrong. It only measures information by black and white,
fact or fiction, or navigating the gray area of morality. It would use a hypothetical algorithm that
would determine the information s potential risk. The detrimental implications that Artificial

Essay on Claims by Judith Ortiz
Claims by Judith Ortiz
Judith Ortiz Cofer is a Puerto Rican whose writing often examines the conflict and the beauty of
cultures mixing together, as people immigrate to America. Though she exhibits a strong connection
to her Latin heritage, she often seems to also resent that part of her life. There are many standards
and expectations in the Puerto Rican society which Cofer writes to subvert, viewing them
negatively. As a Puerto Rican woman, Cofer often disagrees with the limits and expectations
placed on a woman in Puerto Rican society, and this attitude is the subject of much of her work. In
Claims, the speaker describes Grandmother. Cofer uses this poem to illustrate a family and
describe an individual, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examining Claims on another lever, one finds messages speaking out against the portrayal of a
good woman in Puerto Rican societies. Women are expected to sacrifice every aspect of their
own lives for their husbands and children. The Grandmother accepted her role in society, but
always had dreams of claiming her own life. Grandmother made a promise when she was
married, and she kept her promise. She raised five children and led a life committed to a
husband who was expected by society to wander. But all along, Grandmother had dreamed of the
day when she could secure her freedom. She dreamed of sleeping in her own bed and simply
being herself. Her dream is finally realized in old age, as described in the poem. Grandmother
claimed the right to be herself and live her life. Her days were constantly occupied by caring for
her children and her nights were always invaded by her husband s presence. Now that her family
has all moved on, Grandmother has her house and her life for herself. Each right that she has
claimed has multiple meanings about her life and society, her dreams and true personality. The first
right, that of sleeping alone and owning her nights, describes an internal conflict which
Grandmother carried. While she truly loved her family, she yearned for space and freedom. She
wanted to control at least some part of her life, but

Good Volumetric Techniques
To achieve a good volumetric technique, the experimenter needs to be able to correctly complete
certain procedures.
Before beginning an experiment, it is good to calibrate any equipment that needs calibration. This
ensures that results obtain will be as accurate as possible or as near to the true value. All
equipment should be inspected to ensure that there are no chips, cracks or general damage to the
equipment as these could cause problems during the experiment which could affect the overall
results gained. Equipment such as burettes, pipettes, flasks and beakers must be rinsed with
distilled water to get rid of any impurities in the equipment. If solutions are to be poured in any
piece of equipment then the equipment should also be rinsed out with the solution being used, this
will maintain the pH level in the instrument. Once a solution is transferred from the pipette to the
flask, touching the tip of the pipette on the side of the flask will drain any extra drops that may
still remain on the tip of the pipette. When filling up the burette it is important that a funnel is used,
however as the solution reaches the 0 mark it is ideal that the funnel be removed and a pipette used
instead to reach the 0 mark, this is to achieve greater precision. During the experiment, it is
important to swirl the flask continuously with one hand

Positive And Negative Effects Of Artificial Lighting
According to (International Dark SkyAssociation, 2016) Most of us are familiar with air, water,

pollution is misdirected light into the sky that affects our view of the sky, but light pollution is the
result of overly used, misused, or misdirected artificial lightingin the sky, on the ground, in certain
areas within our environment, and within in our homes. Although artificial lighting has provided a
way for us humans to feel safe outside after dark, see at night, attend sporting events, and advertise

The U.S. imposed an Embargo against Cuba on Oct. 19, 1960. Has the time come to the United
States to lift the five decade embargo? The Embargo was a part of America s Cold War strategy
against the Soviet Union, imposed on the belief that Cuba was a threat to the U.S. since the Soviet
Union was a danger to the National Security because of its alliance with the Soviet Union. Although
Cubawould like the U.S to terminate the embargo against their country, the U.S. wants Cuba to

Eisenhower instituted a ban on nearly all exports to Cuba, and then President Kennedy expanded
into a full economic embargo that included stringent travel restrictions. In 2000, President Bill
Clinton signed the Trade Sanctions Reform and Export Enhancement Act, which allowed the U.S.
to send medicine and humanitarian supplies to the Cuban people. Independent Non Governmental

U.S. wanted Cuba to meet special requirements in order for the embargo to go into effect,
including rules such as: transition to a democracy, demand Havana support small businesses in
exchange for sheathing restrictions on remittances, denounce presence of either Fidel or Raul

During the middle ages European entrepreneurs like the Venetians, imported sugar from parts of
the Levant such as Alexandria. However, such sugar producing areas were in Islamic hands or
were threatened by Islamic expansion and this near monopoly drove the prices upwards. Even in
the face of such high prices and limited supply the sweet phenomenon caught on very quickly.
Initially little more than an exotic good consumed in noble circles, the novelty soon caught on
across all of society, and seeing the ample demand and inherent profits in the trade of sugar
European merchants began, on a large scale, to trade in the stuff finding that they could grow rich
merely on the profits of its export and import. Nonetheless, aware of the advantages of controlling
sources of production as well as transport, many eventually began looking for land on which to
grow their own cane. They began doing this in Iberia and elsewhere but because of the large tracts
of land and the large labour force required for the production of sugar and the lack of these
requisites in Iberia, experiments were undertaken to grow sugar overseas. During the thirteenth
century, enterprising Portuguese and Spanish merchants sought to enhance their share of the
lucrative sugar market by producing cane on plantations they established in conquered
Mediterranean islands. In the late 1300 s and 1400 s the Portuguese colonised Madeira and the
Azores for the same purpose as the Spanish absorbed the

Abstract The paper here presents the model of a walking stick that alerts visually challenged
people over obstacles by use of electronic sensors and controllers. Very few of the navigation aids
available for visually challenged people can provide dynamic navigation and which work
perfectly for day to day navigation requirements (The white cane and walk dogs are not safe for
today s increasing traffic and insensitive world). This model here demonstrates a system concept
to provide an electronic aid for blind people which would benefit the challenged person for his
daily travelling, whether it be indoors or outdoors. The aim of system is to provide a sense of
artificial vision by alerting the subject about the environmental scenario of static and dynamic
objects around them. In this system, an ultrasonic sensor, an atmega16 controller, a buzzer and a
vibration motor is used.

The Shift of Modern Technology Technology has always been changing and evolving. Whether it
is discovering ways to cultivate plants and animals or if it is developing the smallest nano
technology to be used in space, there is never a time where scientists and inventors are not coming
up with new things to better our quality of life and to change how we work in society. The last
decade has been especially important to the development of technology in many different aspects
such as healthcare, or globalization. The contemporary shift of technology within the last decade
has been a revolutionary stepping stone into the possibilities of the future. The changes in
healthcare have been excitingly revolutionary and act as a very large gate into the possibilities of
the future for health services. The way that hospitals store their data has changed monumentally.
This change allows for faster accessibility to health information of a patient and even allows for a
patient to access their own health records if they want to. This change in speed is very different
from the old paper records of the past, and the more things that health services moves on to a
technological database, the safer the information is and the faster it can be obtained. Another thing
that all this information being quickly available is that healthcare is receivable almost anywhere in

Dangers Of Apathy By Merriam Webster
Dangers of Apathy Merriam Webster defines the word apathy as a lack of feeling, emotion,
interest, or concern. The FY16 Chief Petty Officer Selects, however, feel that there is more to
this word. Pure apathy is the personal choice of removing any and all shred of interest or
concern to a particular person, place, or thing. This individual choice can be depicted in a
variety of ways. One of these ways is doing just enough to get by, or flying under the RADAR, as
some may put it. This type of behavior can be extremely dangerous for many reasons, one of the
biggest reasons is that it could lead to someone losing their life. For instance, the job of a

Even worse, the occurrence of death, or the likelihood thereof, is of no importance to someone
with this level of apathy. They allow the sickness of apathy to guide their lives. The choice to
care, or not care, remains in their hands. However, they are blinded by the despair that they
either cannot see they have the choice to change their view, or they just do not care. As stated
above, apathy can help motivate some people. In fact, the Greeks had an entirely different idea
behind the word apathy. In the original Greek word, apatheia was defined as the insensibility to
pain or suffering. The Greeks had an idea that one should push through and even ignore pain. In
this way of thinking, the Greeks believed being they could be objective or impartial due to non
suffering. When properly reflected upon, apathy can, in fact, inspire a person to push past the
fear of pain or failure. It is important to understand that failure will happen, yet when it does we
must bounce back, learn from our mistakes, and press on. We cannot hide from failure, it will
come regardless, or we will grow apathetic to the situation. If we truly have an interest in the goal,
then it is imperative to stand up and face what may happen. While it may hurt, and may even in
fact frighten us, we must push forward. We must not concern ourselves with the pain, the fear, and
the failure and focus on the goal. We may learn from all of these.

The And The French Revolution
Casper David Friedrich was a German Romantic artist in the nineteenth century that is most known
for his landscape paintings that display the romantic ideals of individualism, nature, physical and
emotional passion and an interest in the mysteries of the world. Where did these ideals of
Romanticism begin? Taking a look back into the 17th century, there was another intellectual
movement that changed society, culture and politics. The Enlightenment was a time period lasting
throughout the 18th century which brought about the Age of Reason in which politics, philosophy,
and science dominated in Europe. The philosophies of the Enlightenment placed emphasis on
rational and scientific thought and viewed the natural world as one that is governed mathematically
and by scientific laws which could be understood by humankind. The Enlightened philosophies
brought about this drastic change in all aspects of society which influenced the several revolutions
of that time period such as the American and the French revolutions. After the French Revolution,
the concepts of the Old Regime and traditions of the past in Europe were abolished while new
concepts introduced by the Enlightenment were being implemented in all areas of politics, culture
and society. This left Europe in a state of two opposing worlds one that still appreciated the
traditions of the past and one that was ready for new ideas of the future. Out of this chaos is where
the ideology of Romanticismdeveloped and thrived in

Causes and Treatments of Peptic Ulcer Disease
A peptic ulcer can be defined as an excavation that forms in the mucosal wall of the stomach, in
the pylorus, in the duodenum, or in the esophagus (Brunner, Suddarth and Smeltzer, 2008).
According to Fromm, (2009) Helobactor pylori is a gram negative bacteria that is the cause of
most peptic ulcer disease and is considered a primary risk factor in the development of gastic
cancer (pg. 394). Other causes include stress, and excessive secrtion of Hydrochloric acid in the
stomach. Transmission of H. pylori according to Gurney, Carvalho, Gonzalez, Galaviz Sonstein
(2014) states there is strong research supporting that H. pylori can be spread person to person
through direct contact with saliva, vomit, or fecal matter (pg. 393). H. Pylori is more prevalent in
crowded areas without reliable access to clean water. Other risk factors include poor hygiene,
smoking, and close living conditions with someone who is infected with H. pylori. Symptoms of an
ulcer include a burning sensation in the stomach and esophagus, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation
and bleeding. Treatment of Peptic UlcerDisease includes antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori bacteria;
proton pump inhibitors are used to treat NSAID induced ulcers and other ulcers not associated with
the bacterial infection, smoking cessation and dietary modifications. Surgical management is
recommended for ulcers that fail to heal after 12 16 months of treatments and the procedures
include pyloroplasy, anrectomy or vagotomy.

How To: Hadoop and Mark logic
Before talking about Hadoop and Mark Logic, it is very important to understand Big Data. What is
big data, what s the consequence and how it is linked with Hadoop and Mark Logic? Large set of
data, unstructured and structured which is created everyday over the internet via different
devices is known as Big Data . For example: if the user has 7 accounts and creates multiple files in
each account he has already created large set of data of his own Big Data is generally described in
terms of the three Vs:
1. Volume
2. Velocity
3. Variety With all the collection of large datasets with huge volume, high velocity and variety of
data, business and organization were at risk to handle their data privacy and security beyond their
capacity. Due to the increase in new technology, business, communication, device, big scale of
data was produced. About 90% data in today s world was just created in last two years alone,
without counting those data that has been created previously. The information retained in those
data was a big risk to many organizations as the current technology was managing the data with
traditional approach, which consisted of user, a centralized system and relational data base. This
style had various drawbacks together along with two key problems: less storage capacity and slow

I Know You Love Me-Now Let Me Die By Louis M. Profeta...
Many families are willing to do anything to save their loved ones. In the article I Know You
Love Me Now Let Me Die by Louis M. Profeta, the author mentions a time when people died in
places with happy memories that were forgotten once technology began to develop. Because
dying in a familiar environment was the old way of letting a beloved person pass, Profeta uses
circular structure to explore how every family wants to preserve their loved one s life even if the
person wants to die. Some families were able to let their special ones pass with the last days
[s]pent with familiar sounds, in a familiar room, with familiar smells, that gave her a final chance
to summon memories that will help carry her away (Profeta). In the past, the passing... Show more

The author uses circular structure to state how people died before to display the importance of
the last phrase in an argument. As a result, many would see how their beloved ones would want
to stay in a comfortable place to leave with happy memories rather than trying to give their
families false hope. Additionally, instead of trying to come up with more ways to save a life of
a person that wants to rest in peace, the doctors and families chose to do what they should
instead of what they could and with that we will close our eyes to familiar sounds in a familiar
room, a fleeting smile and a final soft squeeze of a familiar hand (Profeta). Technology is often
thought as something that can be used for everything but when some can not depend on it
anymore, many will become aware of their surroundings. Families will see how they were not
aware of how their loved ones felt when they had no hope of surviving. Those that have not lived
their lives to the fullest would think that any dying person would want to be given a chance to live
longer although the elderly person realizes that it is their time to leave this

Essay On Satyam Scandal
RECOMMENDATION
The 2009 Satyam scandal in India has highlighted the shameful potential of an improperly
governed corporate leader. Some recommendations can be made from the mistakes learnt from the
scandal to further avoid such mishaps. First, all inaccuracies are to be investigated as a lot of fraud
schemes initially start out small, with the thought that small changes here and there would not
make a big difference, and is less likely to be detected. The fraud scheme at Satyam started very
small that eventually grew into $276 million. Second, Corporate Governance needs to be Stronger
as a Fraud of such a kind does not only look bad on a company; it also ruins the reputation of the
whole industry and the country. India has been adopting Corporate ... Show more content on

The culture at Satyam, especially dominated by the board, represented an unethical culture.
Satyam was brought to its knee due to tunneling effect unlike Enron, which sank due to agency
problem. All kind of frauds have proven that there is a need for good conduct based on strong
ethics. The debacle of Satyam raised a debate about the role of CEO in driving an organization to
the heights of success and its relationship with the board members and ore committees. The fraud at
Satyam brought to the light the role of CG in influencing the protocols related to the working of
audit committee and duties of board members (Niazi, and Ali, 2015). The government of India took
very quick actions to protect the interest of the investors of Satyam, the nation s image across the
world and, safeguard the credibility of India. Moreover, Satyam fraud has forced the government to
re‐write the CG rules and tightened the norms for auditors and accountants (Bhasin, 2013b). The
Indian affiliate of PwC ―routinely failed to follow the most basic audit procedures. The SEC
and the PCAOB fined the affiliate, PwC India, $7.5 million in what was described as the largest
American penalty ever against a foreign accounting firm (Norris, 2011). According to Mr. Chopra,
President (ICAI), ―The Satyam fraud was not an auditing or accounting failure, but one of CG.
This apex body had found the two PwC auditors prima facie guilty of professional misconduct. The
CBI, which investigated the Satyam fraud case, also charged the two auditors with complicity in
the commission of the fraud by consciously overlooking the accounting irregularities. The Satyam
fraud, finally, had to end and the implications were having far reaching consequences. With all the

An effective compliance oversight team has several tasks in an organization like looking over
contracts to ensure said contracts meet all legal guidelines. The team also investigates future and
present clients of the business and turns in written reports of the team s findings. The team also
gives its company a risk analysis of its endeavors reporting to management in writing. An effective
compliance oversight team is an immeasurable asset to any company. The purpose of the team is to
minimize the financial, name or brand, organizational, and safety risks. A company is dependent
upon maximizing profits and building name recognition, without an effective compliance oversight
team this would not be possible.
Effective Training and Education for Roles and Responsibilities
Ensuring the proper and effective training for jobs the employees do remains a function of
management. A subject matter expert should provide the training to ensure smooth, safe, and
effective standards of performance. An effective training and education program within a company
allows the business to flourish. Proper training and ensuring the employees had the necessary
resources prior to putting the new equipment in the production environment may have prevented
the situation from becoming unproductive.

schools have study hall and just because we are younger than them that doesn t mean that we
can t have study hall. Study hall is proven to be more helpful for students. The first reason that
study hall is needed is, that it s good for making up missed work. If people get their missed work

The Decline in Union Membership in Australia Essay
The Decline in Union Membership in Australia TOPIC The major issue today facing the Australian
trade union movement has been the decline in union density. What have been the causes, and how
have the unions responded to the challenge. Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics
(ABS) in 2000, show that the decline in Australian union membership continues, despite the efforts
of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), to stop the slide. The ABS reports that trade
union membership has dropped to 28 percent of the total workforce, compared to 1992, where
there was 40 percent. (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2000.) Previous ABS findings show that
these recent figures are part of a general trend, with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important function of a union is to maximise the wages and salaries of its members
(Deery, Plowman, and Walsh, 2000). Why do employees join unions? There are a number of
reasons that an employee may join a union but three major factors are evident. They are;
dissatisfaction with economic aspects of the job; a desire to influence those aspects of the work
environment through union orientated means; and, a belief that the benefits of unionism outweigh
the expected costs (Deery et al, 2000). With the benefits of the objectives of a union evident, why
has Australian unions witnessed a decline in membership? There are many reasons to suggest a
decline in membership, but three main factors stand out. They are; the changing composition of
employment; the casual effects of the business cycle; and, the introduction of the Accord (Deery et
al, 2000). The changing composition of employment relates to the change in the structure of the
workforce. Job growth has become generally greater in those segments of the labour force with
relatively low levels of trade union membership, and a contraction of employment among the more
highly unionised segments of the labour force (Healey, 1995). Most of the employment growth that
occurred in the 80 s and 90 s was confined to the private sector whose union density was
considerably lower to that of the public sector. In addition to that, the constant decline in the
manufacturing industries, where unionisation is high, compared to

The Brain, The Hippocampus And The Striatum ( Jacobsen ...
There are two essential learning sections in the brain, the hippocampus and the striatum (Jacobsen
Forste, 2011). Focused learners are individuals who pay full attention in class and are not easily
distracted by their mobile devices. These individuals utilize the hippocampus which is typically the
heart of the memory and the learning center of the brain. These students have the ability of thinking
in high level scenarios and typically end up with higher paying jobs than those that are categorized
as multitaskers (Jacobsen Forste, 2011). Multitaskers are those that do two or three things at once
and are therefore not focusing on getting one task accomplished (Boyd, 2014). Such students use
the area of the brain known as the striatum. This manner of learning is not an adverse learning
approach; however, this area of the brain is for learning habits. Multitasking is usually right for
those that want to work on assembly lines. Students that graduate with degrees typically aim for
high paying jobs and in order to achieve this they must shut down their laptops and phones and pay
attention in their classes. A startling fact is just how dependent and almost fixated college students
are when it comes to accessing the internet. A few studies such as that of Jacobsen Forste, (2011)
have highlighted that most students consider the Internet as fundamental as food, shelter, water and
air. These thoughts are highly astonishing. Most of these students find that the internet is more

The Duty of the Federal Reserve
The Federal Reserve Act was signed into law on December 23, 1913. Due to a series of financial
panics around 1907, the Federal Reserve (also referred to as the Fed ) was created by Congress to
promote a stable banking system and an active economy. The Federal Reserves greatest client and
biggest spender is the government of the United States. All proceeds from taxes generated and
disbursements are managed through the account that the United States government has set up with
the Federal Reserve. The Fed operates independently of the government; however, the Feds
jurisdiction originates from Congress and the Fed is subject to congressional supervision.
Furthermore The President nominates the members of the Board of Governors which must be
confirmed by the Senate. The salaries of the Fed are also set and appointed by the government.
Although the Fed can exercise freedom in monetary determinations, the existing relationship with
the government invites corruption particularly with the present administration and its champagne
socialists.
Thomas Jefferson in the Debate of the Recharger of the Bank Bill in (1809) warned that banking
systems would decimate America. Regardless of the original premise of good intentions, whenever
any system wields this much power manipulation and avarice ensue. Many consider the economic
approach of our forefathers as too primitive and unsophisticated; however, the laws and standards
they established has made the United States the

Meet The Miller Essay
Meet the Miller
In the General Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer presents his reader with a blend of
unlikely yet entertaining characters that find themselves on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. Chaucer
then describes the different characteristics and the outward appearances of these characters at
length. He probably does so in order to bring these characters to life, giving us a more vivid
understanding of what kind of people they were. The Miller is one of the most vivid characters that
I have encountered in Chaucer s work for he is perfectly delineated as the man he is, without
including any unnecessary detail.
The Miller is described as a short and sturdy man who possesses uncanny strength. The undisputed

Norton, 554 557.
With a face like that, I would not mind charging at doors, either. But even though our Miller is an
uncouth, unmannered and disgusting lower class citizen, he is a product and a true representation
of the society he lives in.
If we look beyond the negative impressions that the Miller s behavior and appearance create in
us, I am sure we can find at least some worthy attribute that will change our opinion of him. To
our astonishment, Chaucer informs us that the Miller possesses a humorous and a poetic soul for
he is a janglere (chatterer) and a goliardais (teller of obscene stories) (Norton, 562). But all and
any remaining good opinion that the reader may have about the Miller is crushed by Chaucer s
next lines that complete his description of our working class hero:
He was a janglere and a Goliardais, And that was moost of synne and harlotries. Wel koude he
stelen corn and tollen thries; And yet he hadde a thombe of gold, pardee. Norton, 562 565.
Our Miller does compose songs, tales and even poems. Unfortunately, they are all about sinful
and immoral topics, as we see by the fabliau that he later tells to his fellow travelers. The Miller is
strong, jolly and poetic, and even though he does not strike us as a positive character, he appears all
too real for he is

The Pros And Cons Of Postal Service
Hence, they try to get involved in generating revenue by infringing on net neutrality principles.
They prioritize data packets from certain sites, which are ready to pay for this service.
For an analogy, postal service officials don t read the letters they are delivering. For a common
service, is it possible for them to read the letter and decide if they are going to deliver the packet or
not? Is it ethical for a postman to priorities a mail delivery by taking bribe from the sender?
For another analogy, roads treat all commuters equally. They don t charge differentially based on
what vehicles are carrying or what the destination is. Roads or vehicle registration authority may
charge more for bigger vehicles since they damage the roads more. But going by the same analogy,
ISPs can charge differently to heavy usage customers. By no means they have the right to inspect
the data internet packets.
Another analogy is of electricity service. Power distribution authority doesn t charge variably by
looking into what people are using the energy for. They may charge variably based on amount of
energy usage. The same can be done by ISPs to increase revenue or control congestion. They can
charge more to the people for consuming more data thus managing congestion and increasing
profitability.
Competition is the mother of invention. By prioritizing data packets coming from certain sites,
ISPs are hindering the competition. New market players generally do not have a budget to pay

Benevolent Sexism Essay
Benevolent sexism is a courteous attitude toward women (which feels favorable) but in actuality is
sexist because the motivation behind it casts women as weak individuals in need of men s
assistance. This evaluation of gender only appears subjectively positive, yet damages gender
equality. Benevolent sexism is harmful because of the motivation that drives it. However, if the
motivation of the individual (men or women) assisting is not based on the original assumption that
women are weak individuals that need help, I believe purely chivalrous actions makes a better
world and should be encouraged. The friendly, fuzzy feelings from benevolent sexism come at a
cost, [they]..aren t all sunshine and butterflies (Tannenbaum, 2013). Even though they benefit
women (compliments, perks), benevolent sexism often creates a damaging stereotype for women
in maledominated fields. The motivation behind the chivalrous acts directed towards women comes
from the traditional genderstereotyping of masculine dominance, thus proposing inequality based
on gender.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The insidious fraction allows it to influence opinions of an individual in a non direct way, which is
much harder to detect (it hides under the guise of positivity). For example, imagine a hypothetical
situation a firm is voting to legalize an anti female policy in leadership roles because they lack the
assertiveness and toughness to lead. The voting would cause an uproar and protested because it
directly promotes gender inequality in the workplace. However, consider the second hypothetical
situation a firm is voting to legalize an anti female policy in leadership roles because they are much
more attentive to details than men and make better accountant (or any other non leadership role).
The latter situation (even though the purpose of the policy is the same) would cause less uproar
and protest due to the different wording and

the glory of QinDynasty only lasted for fifteen years due to the burning of books and burying of

because of Qinershi the ruler of the social chaos and fatuous incompetence, which was the second

The Qin s wars of unification
Before the Qin State became a Dynasty the Qin State had an unexceptionable start that changed
its destiny. Because of the most famous war that Qin State led, it lasted about ten years. In the
beginning of the Qin s wars of unification around 230 BC, Qin state was the first state declared

declared war on Zhao State, while Zhao was attacking Yan, Qin used the opportunity to send two

the south. In the end of the 223 BC, Qin State launched another attack on Chu State and captured
the capital of Chu and the king of Chu, and he was annexed by Qin. At the end of 221 BC, Qin

  • 3. Methods Of Using Stratified Sampling Essay Procedure This present study utilized two self report surveys administered to inmates within state run prisons in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia. The participating facilities and the inmates were selected utilizing stratified sampling. From the total number of facilities (126), fifty facilities were randomly selected. The facilities were selected by grouping them into different security levels (maximum, medium, and minimum) and were all given a number and selected using a random number generator. Lists of all the inmates were collected from the facilities and 10,000 male inmates were randomly selected to be surveyed. They were selected by grouping the inmates by classification level (general population, protective custody, and segregation). Each of these inmates were given a number and a random number generator was utilized to randomly select participants. Stratified sampling was utilized because it ensures that the researcher collect a more representative sample by using different security level facilities and different custody levels of inmates as a sampling frame. The participants were surveyed twice over a period of one year; the surveys were mailed out to the facilities and were self administered to the participants. Participants had three weeks to complete and mail the survey back to the research facility using the return envelope provided. The survey response rate was sixty five percent of those surveyed and included ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This heavily populated country s history and culture was, and still is, affected by its geography. For example, The Ganges River provided some irrigation, but was mostly known for its religious significance in the Hindu faith. The Indus Riverprovided fertile land for the Indus Valley civilization and allowed agriculture to flourish, but also flooded, which was part of the civilization s economical weakening. Another factor that which brought the fall of the civilization was the Hindu Kush Mountain Range; although it provided some protection, paths were discovered by invaders that permitted them to cross over and quell. The Ganges River, a wide and slow paced river, starting from the mountain tops, then through the Gangetic Plain, and finally empties into the Bay of Bengal ( Ganges River ). The fertile Gangetic Plain was where settlements and developing cities during prehistoric times because it was stable agriculturally ( Geography ). Despite the fact that the Ganges brought great fertility, it is also known as the most holy and sacramental river in the Hindu religion. The river is personified as a goddess, Ganga, who was sent from heaven to purify cursed and sinful souls; she was caught in the snowy Himalayan peaks of Shiva s hair , then escapes by flowing down the mountain into the sea and finally purified more than 60,000 souls (Watts). • 9. Shawn Fanning, Creator of Napster, Changed the Music Industry Shawn Fanning, an 18 year old Northwestern University dropout, never thought he would be the one to change the music industry forever. What started out as hours of code to figure out a way to share music with his roomate, soon turned into the program that the world was buzzing about. His idea was simple, to create a program where users were able to share filers over a central server, specifically music files. This became known as Napster. Napster, which was created in 1999, became an internet sensation in the blink of an eye. It was a free file sharing community that involved millions of users. Napster linked numbers computers to a centralized server, which was accessible to almost anyone that had access to the internet. When logged onto the server, users could see music files along with their location, and begin to download them to their computer library. Users had the ability to search for music on peoples computers around the world. However, Napster faced a long road ahead of them dealing with copyrightviolation accusations. Yes, these allegations from recording companies, in this case A M Records, would soon be the ones responsible for the termination of this short lived, but powerful corporation. As a marketing major and entrepreneurship minor, or even as a student taking this Business Law class, I can learn a lot from this case. In August 1999, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) was one of the firsts to warn Napster of all that lay ahead. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Critique Of The s Theory Critique of Experiment 2 Many experiment fall folly due to the many factors they need to get correct. Like most studies the practitioner needs to create a hypothesis that is actually testable and test it on a group of people they can get. The participants are the foundation to the whole study. With them you are able to prove whether your hypothesis was correct or not. These and many more factors are why psychological studies are incredibly to execute and do properly. The hypothesis of this study states, Participants who had been primed with the elderly stereotype would walk more slowly compared to participants who had not been primed with the stereotype relevant stimuli . This basically means that the experimenter believes that words related to the elderly population and none related will affect the rate in which the participants walk. Their hypothesis seems achievable because in my experiences I find that we as people relate to word association and because of this our behaviors can be slightly modified to match the words presented. This hypothesis is seems testable because it doesn t seem completely absurd due to the actual experiment they planned to conduct. In this specific study, they are aiming to construct an environment where participants will have to unscramble words either related to elderly concepts or non elderly concepts. The participants chosen from this study were all Undergraduate NYU students, 30 males and females. I think each participant qualifies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Social And Economic Development Of Rio De Janeiro 3) The Dashed Hopes of UPP Social (and its counterparts) The overall aim of the UPP is to integrate the favelas to the larger city (World Bank 2012). Once the community was pacified, the government could enter and provide goods and services. Therefore, since its origin, the program UPP Social was subordinated to the UPPs, meaning that only pacified favelas would receive it (Bentsi Enchill, Goodenough and Berger 2015). In partnership with UN Habitat, UPP Social was meant to accomplish the following aims: contribute to the consolidation of the peace process and the promotion of local citizenship in pacified territories; promote urban, social and economic development; carry out the full integration of these areas into the city (Rio Mais... This explains why they overwhelmingly support Lula and Dilma Rousseff in the current political and economic crisis, unlike the rest of the population (Caulyt and Malkes 2016; Favela 247 2016). However, due to the rising living costs in the pacified favelas (Oosterban and Van Hijk 2015), the Bolsa FamГlia does not provide a support that would be sufficient to overcome clientelism. Moreover, the Bolsa FamГlia is often blamed for not giving voice to civil society (Hevia 2011), therefore participatory policies are generally preferred. Residents Awareness and Participation in the Elaboration of Projects Residents are overall unaware of the activities undertaken by UPP Social. They associate it with social events organized by the UPPs. As a consequence, many residents did not want to take part in the activities, as they associated UPP Social with the police. To overcome the misunderstandings, the program was renamed Rio + Social in 2014 (Fernandes 2014). However, the change in name did not improve the services offered, and residents views are not taken into account when mapping needs of the community. Evidence from interviews showed that few residents could describe was doing for their community. Indeed, it appears that the program is limited to the organization of social events. Her most expensive dress sold was from when she was 57 years old and sold for $9,020. The second most expensive was from when she was 62 and sold for $8,450. The auction data also shows that of the 31 dresses observed, only 4 items came from before the age of 47. This is consistent with the fact that experimental designers produce their best work later in their careers. Madame GrГЁs has inspired many designers today. Civil Rights Reflection Paper Vice President Johnson, Mr. Speaker, Mr. Chief Justice, President Eisenhower, Vice president Nixon, President Truman, Reverend Clergy, fellow citizens: We observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom symbolizing an end as well as a beginning signifying renewal as well as change. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three quarters ago. The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God. We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world. • 16. Descartes’ Cogito Argument Successfully Shows the Evil... Does Descartes Cogito argument successfully show that the Evil Demon Argument is unsound? In this essay I will attempt to show that the philosopher, RenГЁ Descartes Cogito Argument successfully proves the Evil Demon Argument to be unsound. By an analysis of the structure of the arguments and what they prove, I will show the evil demon argument to be unsound. An argument is unsound when the premises as false and the argument is invalid. This analysis of both structure and content will eventuate in objections on the aforementioned categories. To take any of Descartes arguments in consideration I have to understand why he started his meditations in order to prove Gods existence and to gain clear and distinct knowledge. At the same time of his first meditation he was engaged in a raging war within Europe and lost some his close family members (Smith, K., 2014), he too was at risk of death all because of certain religious beliefs. It is easy to understand that he wrote all of his meditations in order for himself to be sure of dying for what he believed in. Descartes first meditation works in three stages: at first he tries to show that he does not have any empirical knowledge, meaning he does not have any knowledge based on his senses since he proved that his senses could possibly be deceiving him. The second place occupies such a steroid as methandrostenolone. Boldenone and flyuksimetreon have more weak property of aromatization. There are steroids that can be converted to estradiol without the process of aromatization, these include nandrolone, norethandrolone and ethylestrenol. I believe that economic policy did not change between the years 1941 1986 but the change was often quickly reversed and change was not carried out to a great enough extent to have any significant bearing on the development of the Russian economy. Able bodied men were conscripted from the collectives and women were left to care for the farms. Grain production fell from 95 million tons in 1940 to 30 million tons in 1942. This was a huge drop, and famine was common, particularly in the Ukraine and Siberia, where loss of life was most severe. The more relaxed attitude of Stalin during the wars years had nurtured a belief that life would be easier and less repressed after the war. However, this proved not to be the case. The Fourth Five Year Plan was intended to restore Russia s pre war reputation as an industrial power. Industrial production recovered quickly, mainly through the use of over 2 million slave labourers. The rigid centralised economy imposed by Stalin was useful in this instance as it became easier to organise workers and factories. The Fifth Five Year Plan was concentrated slightly more on the consumer industries, helping to improve living conditions in Russia. Arthur maintains his symbolic representation of good throughout the tale, but Malory crafts Arthur s character in such a way that his weaknesses, or bad traits, shed a rather mortal light upon his character. These weaknesses, combined with the greatness of Arthur, are eventually what gives way to the downfall of Arthur. His bad traits reflect much of what we see in ourselves. Though Arthur is a noble, great, and powerful character, it does not mean that he may not be a flawed character as well. Arthur, throughout the tales, often falls victim to his own mortal whims. He is often shortsighted and reckless in his decision making. An example of this is in Malory s Arthur and Pellinore story from Le Morte d Arthur, Tell me, said Merlin, Do you prefer the sword or the scabbard? The sword, said Arthur. You are a fool, said Merlin. The scabbard is worth ten of the sword, because while you wear it, regardless of how seriously you are wounded, you will lose no blood (2). Through this... The Reconstruction era was marked by political, not violent, conflict. Actually, the plans were quite lenient, enforcing military rule for only a short period of time, ignoring land reform, and granting pardons easily. Then, each state was required to write new constitutions adopting the 13th amendment (Boyer, 444). Johnson repudiated Confederate war debts, and he also supported Black Codes. Johnson seemed sympathetic to Southern opinion at the expense of freedmen s rights. He took steps to insure a dependant black work force for the South, and restricted the rights of African Americans . Freedmen were not allowed to marry interracially, perform jury duty, or give testimony in court against whites. Johnson s plan was fatally flawed; his requirement that each state adopt the 13th amendment was practically useless as it only dealt with Federal elections. State elections were more important to citizens during the Reconstruction era, and unless Johnson guaranteed State voting rights to freedmen he was offering them hardly anything at all. Also, Johnson supported Black Codes against Northern public opinion, which damaged him politically in the North. Finally, Johnson did not deal with land reform or economic aid, which was economically unsound. Because of that, and given the limits of epistemic accessibility, it seems rather impossible to say with certainty what about God is objectively true. In fact, to say anything more than that outside of what is possibly or probably the case concerning God, is akin to poetry, a series of metaphors characterizing a hyper dimensional being. The systematic study of learning is relatively new as it was in the late nineteenth century that studies in this realm began in a scientific manner. Psychologists borrowed techniques from the physical sciences, and conducted experiments to understand how people and animals learn. Psychologists have tried in the past to define and explain how learning takes place. Two of the most important early researchers were Ivan Pavlov and Edward Thorndike. Among later researchers, B. F. However if the food i.e. the unconditioned stimulus (UCS) appeared before the bell, the conditioned stimulus (CS), then conditioning is not likely to occur. The bell signals the arrival of food. Pavlov called this the law of contiguity: The closer the two are in time (with neutral stimulus preceding presentation of UCS), the stronger the conditioning (generally speaking) Extinction. This concept is similar to common sense idea of forgetting. Pavlov found that when he sounded the tone repeatedly without presenting food, the dog s salivation also decreased. After the conditioning phase, the conditioned response (CR) gets weaker when the conditioned stimulus (CS) or the bell is not accompanied by the UCS (food). It gets weaker not because the organism no longer remembers the UCS CS connection. It gets weaker because CR is somehow inhibited. Spontaneous recovery. After extinction trials, the dog will start to salivate again in response to CS after only one pairing of UCS and CS. Pavlov called it spontaneous recovery, where the weakened conditioned response reappeared after a rest pause. How is humanity defined? The ability to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings help define humanity and the perceptions held by them. Lying is the unique ability specific to humanity and is universally understood as not telling the truth. White Lies are a good example of this, as they represent many different facets of human thought and emotion. Should the ability to deviate from factual information be given to Artificial Intelligence and what would the ramifications that can befall a lie. However, such sugar producing areas were in Islamic hands or were threatened by Islamic expansion and this near monopoly drove the prices upwards. Initially little more than an exotic good consumed in noble circles, the novelty soon caught on across all of society, and seeing the ample demand and inherent profits in the trade of sugar European merchants began, on a large scale, to trade in the stuff finding that they could grow rich merely on the profits of its export and import. They began doing this in Iberia and elsewhere but because of the large tracts of land and the large labour force required for the production of sugar and the lack of these requisites in Iberia, experiments were undertaken to grow sugar overseas. The choice to care, or not care, remains in their hands. However, they are blinded by the despair that they either cannot see they have the choice to change their view, or they just do not care. As stated above, apathy can help motivate some people. In fact, the Greeks had an entirely different idea behind the word apathy. In the original Greek word, apatheia was defined as the insensibility to pain or suffering. The Greeks had an idea that one should push through and even ignore pain. In this way of thinking, the Greeks believed being they could be objective or impartial due to non suffering. When properly reflected upon, apathy can, in fact, inspire a person to push past the fear of pain or failure. It is important to understand that failure will happen, yet when it does we must bounce back, learn from our mistakes, and press on. We cannot hide from failure, it will come regardless, or we will grow apathetic to the situation. If we truly have an interest in the goal, then it is imperative to stand up and face what may happen. While it may hurt, and may even in fact frighten us, we must push forward. We must not concern ourselves with the pain, the fear, and the failure and focus on the goal. We may learn from all of these. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The And The French Revolution Casper David Friedrich was a German Romantic artist in the nineteenth century that is most known for his landscape paintings that display the romantic ideals of individualism, nature, physical and emotional passion and an interest in the mysteries of the world. Where did these ideals of Romanticism begin? Taking a look back into the 17th century, there was another intellectual movement that changed society, culture and politics. The Enlightenment was a time period lasting throughout the 18th century which brought about the Age of Reason in which politics, philosophy, and science dominated in Europe. The philosophies of the Enlightenment placed emphasis on rational and scientific thought and viewed the natural world as one that is governed mathematically and by scientific laws which could be understood by humankind. The Enlightened philosophies brought about this drastic change in all aspects of society which influenced the several revolutions of that time period such as the American and the French revolutions. After the French Revolution, the concepts of the Old Regime and traditions of the past in Europe were abolished while new concepts introduced by the Enlightenment were being implemented in all areas of politics, culture and society. This left Europe in a state of two opposing worlds one that still appreciated the traditions of the past and one that was ready for new ideas of the future. The most important function of a union is to maximise the wages and salaries of its members (Deery, Plowman, and Walsh, 2000). Why do employees join unions? There are a number of reasons that an employee may join a union but three major factors are evident. They are; dissatisfaction with economic aspects of the job; a desire to influence those aspects of the work environment through union orientated means; and, a belief that the benefits of unionism outweigh the expected costs (Deery et al, 2000). With the benefits of the objectives of a union evident, why has Australian unions witnessed a decline in membership? There are many reasons to suggest a decline in membership, but three main factors stand out. They are; the changing composition of employment; the casual effects of the business cycle; and, the introduction of the Accord (Deery et al, 2000). The changing composition of employment relates to the change in the structure of the workforce. Job growth has become generally greater in those segments of the labour force with relatively low levels of trade union membership, and a contraction of employment among the more highly unionised segments of the labour force (Healey, 1995). Focused learners are individuals who pay full attention in class and are not easily distracted by their mobile devices. These individuals utilize the hippocampus which is typically the heart of the memory and the learning center of the brain. These students have the ability of thinking in high level scenarios and typically end up with higher paying jobs than those that are categorized as multitaskers (Jacobsen Forste, 2011). Multitaskers are those that do two or three things at once and are therefore not focusing on getting one task accomplished (Boyd, 2014). Such students use the area of the brain known as the striatum. This manner of learning is not an adverse learning approach; however, this area of the brain is for learning habits. Multitasking is usually right for those that want to work on assembly lines. Students that graduate with degrees typically aim for high paying jobs and in order to achieve this they must shut down their laptops and phones and pay attention in their classes. A startling fact is just how dependent and almost fixated college students are when it comes to accessing the internet. Due to a series of financial panics around 1907, the Federal Reserve (also referred to as the Fed ) was created by Congress to promote a stable banking system and an active economy. The Federal Reserves greatest client and biggest spender is the government of the United States. All proceeds from taxes generated and disbursements are managed through the account that the United States government has set up with the Federal Reserve. The Fed operates independently of the government; however, the Feds jurisdiction originates from Congress and the Fed is subject to congressional supervision. If we look beyond the negative impressions that the Miller s behavior and appearance create in us, I am sure we can find at least some worthy attribute that will change our opinion of him. To our astonishment, Chaucer informs us that the Miller possesses a humorous and a poetic soul for he is a janglere (chatterer) and a goliardais (teller of obscene stories) (Norton, 562). For a common service, is it possible for them to read the letter and decide if they are going to deliver the packet or not? Is it ethical for a postman to priorities a mail delivery by taking bribe from the sender? For another analogy, roads treat all commuters equally. Roads or vehicle registration authority may charge more for bigger vehicles since they damage the roads more. But going by the same analogy, ISPs can charge differently to heavy usage customers. By no means they have the right to inspect the data internet packets. Another analogy is of electricity service. Power distribution authority doesn t charge variably by looking into what people are using the energy for. They may charge variably based on amount of energy usage. The same can be done by ISPs to increase revenue or control congestion. They can charge more to the people for consuming more data thus managing congestion and increasing profitability.
