• The history of this topic involves the fact Local authorities had been held responsible for educating blind
and deaf children since 1893. 1983 can be considered to be the starting initial year where help was
delegated to these individuals. The attitudes towards individuals with educational needs were negative as
people refused to help them in any way. These people were discriminated and seen as not normal
therefore not helping them cope with their situation. The 1918, an education act was announced making
it compulsory for educational aided and disabled children/students to be in schooling. This first step of
assisting these students then developed by 1921 as there had then been over 300 institutions for these
student’s. After the following years, parents then gained confidence for them to send their child to public
community school rather than exclude him/her from an everyday society.
• The idea of an ‘open air school’ was influenced by Germany, which forced sick, challenged or disabled
students to study outside as a classroom. This had forced students to have naps outside; these harsh
conditions even continued during winter, however; they were handed blankets. Through these conditions,
genders of the students were ‘rigorously’ separated however; boys and girls found methods for them to
communicate. The condition for students who were deaf were even encouraged to stop practising sign
language and learn to lip read. This rule was slowly broken by its students who needed to communicate
with others in another format they believed benefited them.

• Physical education had initially been marked and taught in 1820,
the year schools hap predominately focused on the area of
gymnastics, care, hygiene training and the development of the
human body. Over 400 institutions had majorly introduced the
practises of physical education by the year 1950. With the growing
feature of physical activity before the year 1950, the Young Men’s
Christian association had leached its first chapter in 1851 and had
focused its chapter/programme on physical activities.
• This is where colleges were then encouraged to focus on intramural
sports (football, track and field in particular)

4. Society of Sports

• A group ‘society of Sports Therapists’ was established
in the year 1990. The forming of the organisation was
used to address, respect and present the growing
demands from sporting and leisure individuals. The
demands were ideally for those involved in the
management and care of injured athletes/sport
players. The purpose of the brand is to help ensure
sport athletes were undergoing adequate and effective
training courses allowing them to function efficiently.

5. AIC

• Roundtables were an event held in 2000. Hosted by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and the Australian
Institute of Criminology (AIC), the “Sport, Young People and Crime Prevention” programme was ran in order to
highlight and outline the lack of “evaluative” research conducted on physical activity. The programme established
the deterrence sport activity could have on committing criminal activities and work as a distraction.
• The project carried out had/holds three objectives:
 To determine how these interventions operate, and their levels of success;
 To identify good practice principles for sport and physical activity programs;
 To identify interventions for “at risk” youth using sport and physical activity in Australia.
• Through the battle against antisocial behaviour, in September of 2000, the AIC had released a paper called “Crime
Prevention through sport and physical activity”.
• Authors: Cameron & MacDougall) 2000.
• The Sport, Physical Activity and Outdoor Programs identified by surveys had proven that the “outdoor” feature to
these activities had described the opportunities for camping, wilderness experiences and learning about different
environments. This became beneficial to the use of physical activity as it was considered a merge between
physical activity and the study of geography, a study considered highly important in schools.

6. Global Sports Devlopment

• Published in 2013, Global Sports Development had issued the aspect that there
are heavy benefits to school based sorts. Students could take the activity learned
in school and utilize their talents externally at parks, fields and available teams or
organisations offering the ability to share/express their talents.
• The journal of School Health had published a report called “relationships between
Youth Sport Participant and Selected Health Risk Behaviours from 1999 to 2007”.
The report had accordingly analyzed many different factors, including age, race,
gender, and behaviours, including eating habits sexual activity, and drug risks.
• Ultimately, the report had found that many groups experienced benefits with the
exception of sub groups.
• With the obvious benefits to weight control, confidence and self-esteem, the
report also overlooked the idea that sports actually can lead to the reducing rates
of juvenile arrests, teen pregnancies and school dropouts

7. Autism and Childhood

• Autism is a complex neurobiological, developmental disorder that is
typically diagnosed in childhood and often lasts throughout an
individual’s lifetime. The mark of its characteristics of autism
include an impaired ability to communicative and relate to others
socially, a restricted range of activities, and repetitive behaviours
such as following very specific routines. Whilst the causes to autism
remain unknown and preventative measures have yet to be
discovered, there does exist effective behavioural therapy that can
actually gain a result in significant improvements to individuals with
autism.
