Facebook was launched in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and other Harvard University students initially only for Harvard students. It later expanded to everyone with a valid email address age 13 and older. Facebook has grown rapidly since its launch, reaching over 1 billion active users by 2012. It started as a social networking platform for photos and profiles but has since added many new features like events, pages, messenger, live streaming and more to evolve with its growing user base.

ABOUT
FACEBOOK is a social networking service launched on February
4, 2004. Founded by MARK ZUCKERBERG and with a fellow
roommate at HARVARD UNIVERSITY. Initially, it was limited to
Harvard Students only but gradually it expanded and by
September 2006, to everyone with a valid e-mail address and age
13 and older.
Facebook can be accessed from a large range of devices with
Internet connectivity, such as desktop computers, laptops and
tablet computers, and smartphones.

HISTORY
Before FaceBook was FaceMash, it is called Facebook
predecessor. It came in 2003, developed by MARK
ZUCKERBERG when he was in the second year.
FaceMash used photos which were placed next to each other at
a time and asking users to choose the more attractive person.
This application was called 'hot or not'.
It attracted 450 visitors and 20,000 photo views in its 4 hrs
online.
Was forwarded to several campus groups but was shut down by
Harvard University and Zuckerberg was charged by the
administration by violating copyrights and individual privacy.
