Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th to honor the contributions and culture of Hispanic-Americans. It recognizes that Spanish-speaking people first settled in parts of the United States centuries ago, including missionaries in California and New Mexico in the 16th century and Spanish explorers in Florida in the 17th century. The oldest city in the U.S., St. Augustine, was founded by Spanish settlers. Hispanic-Americans continue to serve as leaders and influence all aspects of American society today.
