Here comes the boom - Summary
The movie was about a teacher called Scott who teaches biology at school. Once,
ten years ago, he was awarded with the title of teacher of the year but now he has
lost his charm and become in a lazy and carefree instructor who does not arrive in
time to school.
Due to cuts and shortage the school was going through a tough time, some
dependencies as the debate club and the music group, among others were going
to be closed, his coworker Marti was being fired but Scott could not permit that.
Marti had helped him and covered his back many times; also, they had been
recently told that Marti’s wife was waiting a baby. For this reason, Scott spoke out
and trying to save Marti’s job he propose to all teachers the idea of getting some
funds to help.
Anyone but Ms. Flores, the nurse of the school, was supporting them and they had
to get the money before the year ended. Scott, the biology teacher had no other
idea than giving extra class and teaches some immigrants about America. After a
couple of classes he gave to Niko, one of his students a private lesson and there
was where he changed his mind.
Scott was now sure that the solution to the problem was having some fights in
order to get some money. At the beginning the plan was all about losing the
matches and earning some money at a time, but more money was made if the
fights were won. They were doing it that good that they decided to start winning the
fights and even they were asked to fight in one of the most important and best paid
fight of all, the UFC.
That fight was supposed to be the last and just by losing it, it will be enough to
save Marti’s job, at last. But something unexpected happened and all the money

that they had collected so far was gone, somebody had stolen it. At that point,
losing the fight was no longer an option; it had to be won at any cost. Scott knew
that inspiring his students was the best he could do then, and it was just because
of inspiration that he was there in that fight. He did it, he won the fight and saved
Marti’s job and he did all that with just his will.

Here comes the boom – Reflection
There have always been some teachers who actually did not want to be teachers
but something else, as in any other profession. Also, anywhere there are those
who want to do what they do and those who act as if they do not care about
anything. And as Scott Voss in the movie showed, anything can change if there is
a will, because where there is a will, there is way.
In this way, teachers who have not get their students attention yet, are able to re-
build themselves again at any time and start doing the right thing. Looking forward
to enhance students and to inspire them always to be the best, but not in a
competitive way but being as humble as possible.
