Hepworth Jackson & Masuda - Information literacy in the workplace: identifying the information management capability needs of staff in a local government organisation
This document summarizes a study conducted by researchers at Loughborough University and information managers at Leicestershire County Council. The study aimed to understand the information practices of staff, identify capabilities, and develop an information management strategy for the organization. Researchers observed and surveyed 30 people across 6 teams to analyze tasks, information needs, skills, and current practices. They found variation in practices both within and between organizations. There was also a lack of awareness around information governance. The study produced tools to help identify training needs, develop capabilities, and foster an information management culture throughout the organization.
This was presented at LILAC 2012 conference in Glasgow. It is based on a two year project in Leicestershire County Council investigating and developing people's information capabilities/information literacy. The focus was on people's interaction with information in the organisation. Information retrieval (very important in academia) was less important than the ability to share, store, discard information in a secure way and where ensuring information was of good quality was important.
Knowledge Management (KM) is a social activity. More and more organizations use social software as a tool to bridge the gap between technology- and human-oriented KM. In order to create interoperable, transferable solutions, it is necessary to utilize standards. In this paper, we analyze which standards can be applied and which gaps currently exist. We present the concept of knowledge bundles, capturing information on knowledge objects, activities and people as a prerequisite for social-focused KM. Based on our concept and examples, we derive the strong need for standardization in this domain. As a manifesto this paper tries to stimulate discussion and initiating a broad initiative working towards a common standard for the next generation of knowledge management systems. Our manifesto provides with eight recommendations how the KM community should act to address future challenges.

Impact of Key Purchasing Determinants on Purchase Intention of Hybrid Vehicle...University of Kelaniya
According to Researchers knowledge this is the first research on purchase intentions of Hybrid Vehicles in
Sri Lanka. This research has been done to determine the purchase intention of Hybrid Vehicles in Sri Lanka.
This research article focuses mainly on determining the links between customer’s environmental attitudes,
subjective norms, price perception, preferences, knowledge, perceived risk, intentions as well as expectations
of the customers given to the environment while buying a hybrid vehicle. The research survey questionnaires
were developed to get information for each and every aspect mentioned in the objectives. To go deep in to
the study areas researcher referred secondary data sources such as other research studies that were done in
Tokyo Japan and India. The data for the present work has been collected personally by the researcher as well
as helps has been taken from others in getting structured non- disguised questionnaire filled properly. By
using the snowball sampling, 200 survey questioners were distributed and 150 useable responses were taken
in to this research. All the responses were collected online and taken them to one data base for the purpose
of analyzing. For this study, respondents who were identified as “being in the market” and other potential
respondents who intended to purchase cars in the near future. After the analysis has been done researcher
has identified the impact of predetermined variables over buying intention of Hybrids vehicles in Sri Lanka.
As per the results, researcher has also come up with the managerial implications of the study and
recommendations.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Variation within organisations
In some organisations there was clear i‐governance

Individuals varied in their information management
