Message from the
Executive Director
Domestic and sexual violence impacts everyone in our
community. Henderson House strives to provide advocacy services
that provide long-term positive outcomes for victims of violence in
Yamhill County Oregon. Our vision is to work collaboratively with
community partners to offer our residents a safe and thriving
community. Adults and children engage in our programs and services every day
whether it is staying at our emergency shelter, attending support groups, using our
24 hour crisis line or accessing various resources through our primary advocacy
services.
Henderson House provides the only domestic violence and sexual assault shelter in
Yamhill County. We provide an average of 2300 shelter nights annually and this
includes adults and children. We are excited to announce that we have added a new
Shelter Advocate position that will work to assist our clients in long-term
sustainable housing and resources. The emergency shelter is essential in providing
a safe place from violence for residents of Yamhill County and beyond.
As the newly hired Executive Director, I look forward to continuing the work of
those before me and developing future programs and services that support
victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Our team is dedicated to
advocating for those who need support and educating our community on ways to
prevent violence against women, children and men.
Sincerely,
Savenia Falquist
Executive Director

Yamhill County Overview
The City of McMinnville is home to Henderson House’s Advocacy Center and Emergency Shelter.
Yamhill County includes the following cities and tribes; Newberg, Dundee, Dayton, Carlton, Lafayette,
McMinnville, Yamhill, Sheridan, Amity, Willamina and Grand Ronde Tribes. With a geographical area
that spans 718 square miles, traveling between towns can be a lot of windshield time.
Yamhill County is home to over 8300 college students annually with four campuses; Linfield College,
and Chemeketa Community College located in McMinnville. George Fox University and Portland
Community College located in Newberg. This creates a “seasonal” type of environment as student’s
transition in and out for school.
Yamhill County is home to almost 300 wineries and has a vibrant offering of fabulous lodging,
restaurants and tasting rooms. With a population of just under 100,000, the rural towns become
bustling with tourists from around the world who have come to experience Oregon Wine Country. In
late September during the wine harvest, the local vineyards are filled with “seasonal” workers who
produce some of the most sought after wines in the United States.

Our Services:
Henderson House Family Crisis Shelter and Services provides direct service
advocacy, emergency shelter, support groups and community education for
victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence. We work with organizations and
tribes throughout the Pacific NW to provide survivors with temporary shelter and
community based services. In 2014, we provided 2227 shelter nights for adults and
children. We transitioned approximately 15 people to long-term housing through a
homeless transitional housing partner.
Henderson House advocates provided over 4400 units of service to survivors in 2014.
Over 3300 people received presentations or education about domestic violence and
sexual assault through our teen and outreach programs. We received 66 calls from
men and over 1400 calls from women for services and/or information. Our support
groups were attended over 1600 times by adults, teens and children throughout 2014.
In addition to doing outreach through community partnerships, events and
presentations, we also utilize social media to raise awareness and engage survivors
and bystanders in our work. Our Facebook page has over 600 followers and is a direct
connection to our advocacy services. We also send out quarterly electronic
newsletters to keep friends of Henderson House engaged and informed of our
programs and events.

Programs & Services
Henderson House currently operates two facilities. Our shelter provides up to approximately 30 days of safe
housing and primary advocacy services for up to 8 adults and 8 children for a maximum capacity of 16
residents. Our second facility is our Advocacy Center located in downtown McMinnville, Oregon. We have a
staff of 8 full-time advocates and administrative positions. We provide many services out of our Advocacy
Center facility but the most utilized are:
Primary Advocacy – Meeting with clients as soon as they engage in our organization. Assisting them with
safety planning, retraining, protective orders, court assistance, shelter, food, clothing, transportation, medical
support, and various other needs for stability and planning.
Support Groups – We offer four specialized support groups on a weekly basis. Our groups include; domestic
violence, Spanish domestic violence, adults molested as children and teen healthy relationships.
Community Outreach & Collaboration – We provide training and presentations for partner agencies, college
campuses, local clubs/groups, middle/high schools and during community events. Our role in the community is
to work towards engaging community partners in collaborative efforts that are inclusive of under-served and
marginalized individuals and groups.
24 Hour Crisis Response – Through staff and volunteers we offer a 24 hour/7 days a week crisis phone line for
our community. We provide advocacy, resource referrals, shelter intakes and many other services during office
hours and through our crisis line
Volunteer Program – People who are interested in providing support to victims/survivors of domestic
violence, sexual assault, and stalking can go through our volunteer orientation and training program. We offer
this training twice a year and encourage anyone (that is not an offender) to participate. When volunteers
complete the program, we have many opportunities for them to support the work. Some will choose direct
advocacy, and some will choose to assist with outreach and events. We have volunteers that do minor repairs;
landscaping and facility focused service or some will help wrap presents during our holiday season. All in all
our volunteers are essential in keeping the wheel turning at Henderson House.
Internship Programs – Every year we work with students who need to complete internships. This has been
wonderful as several of our current staff came to Henderson House as Interns. It is an opportunity to provide
“hands-on” experience while sending a more educated ally out into our community to share our work.
