Hello Dr Kyzar and Class
· Does the research design answer the research question? Explain your rationale.
Lloyd et al., 2018 focused at establishig whether the school-based interventions for children of ages 9-10 years would help in preventive excessive weight gain after 24 months. The researchers used pragmatic cluster randomized controlled trial of the Healthier Lifestyle Programme (HeLP) which is a school-based obesity prevention intervention that was performed in 32 schools found in the southwest England. This method is revealing school as the ideal location for the childhood obesity preventiuon programs due to the near-universal reach f children in the socioeconomic spectrum. It also shows the importance of the change in the diet and physical activity behaviors and their impacts on the weight status (Lloyd, et al., 2018). Were the study sample participants representative? Why or why not?
The sample calculation assumed a mean of 35 children age 9-10 years in every school and this implies that a total of 1,120 samples were used. This is a good number that can represents the problems at the 32 schools that were being targeted by the researchers.
Compare and contrast the study limitations in this study.
The findings of the study shows that the effectiveness of the school-based obesity prevention programmed is inconclusive and contradictory. The interventions used are highly heterogenous in the design and most of the studies used for the research have some methodological weaknesses for example the inadequate statistical power, greater levels of attrition, differential uptake, follow-up, and the short-lived follow-up.
· Based on this evidence summary, would you consider this systematic review as support for your selected practice problem? Explain your rationale.
Two themes were considered to be important i.e. energy in and decision making and the responsibility. It is clear that school hosts many children and can therefore be used as ideal place to deliver the population-based interventions. Even though it might not adequately intensed to affect both school and the family environment hence wieght of the children, it needs to be promoted since it helps in changing the health behaviors of the children. This is important in addressing the issue of childhood obesity sinnce it helps in promoting healthy behaviors among children (Lloyd , et al., 2018).

Whether the author identified the scope of evidence synthesis
The scope of the evidence synthesis is focused on the issue of patient falls with injuries and the challenges related to the prevention of falls within the acute cares settings. The author has identified this scope by drawing pieces of evidence from various authors. The evidence drawn from the previous studies indicates that the issue of patient falls is a major adverse event that interferes with the quality of healthcare services that are being provided to the patients within the acute care settings for example nursing homes and healthcare facilities. The study reveals that the detrimental effects caused by the issues of patients' falls are associated with serious bruises, trauma, fractures, and death of the patients when it is not prevented at the right time (Araujo, et al., 2017).
The evidence also supports the focus of the author by revealing that the issue of falls is a common problem that is being experienced by elderly patients. It shows that one in every three individuals more than 65 years old suffer from at least one fall every year. This is associated with either alone of combined factors such as environmental factors, social factors, psychological factors. Therefore, the author has managed to gather the literature that helps in addressing the research area that is to say the issue of patient falls. The author has managed to synthesize the literature by comparing the literature studies referenced in this work. The author has managed to assess and interpret to help in concluding on the issue of patients' falls and how it is becoming an issue within the acute care and to the healthcare providers (Araujo, et al., 2017).
Whether stronger paraphrased sentences are included to help in supporting the contemporary sources of research evidence
Through providing the description, summary, analysis, and identification of the key concepts; there is successful paraphrasing of the sentences to help in supporting the sources of the research evidence. The evidence from one of the research evidence used i.e. (Gygax Spicer, 2017) shows the issue of falls to be a common problem amongst elderly individuals due to the factors that are either combined or occurring singularly. These factors include social, environmental, and psychological factors. This evidence is supported by the paraphrased sentence which states that the etiology of falls among their elderly patients is as a result of attempting to get out of the bed without any form of assistance from the team of healthcare providers such as nurses. The issue is further increased by other causative factors such as diseases, impulsiveness, urgency, medications, and lack of knowledge about the hospital environment. Another issue that is paraphrased to support the evidence from the research is the turnover problem among healthcare providers. Due to the inadequate number of healthc.

PICOT Question
According to a report by CDC, approximately 3 million people develop pressure injuries each year. Pressure ulcers reduce the quality of quality of life. Each year a considerably large number of people are diagnosed with pressure injuries. Various ways can be used to prevent the progression of this phenomenon. This paper evaluates the most effective option that can be applied to prevent pressure injuries. It is framed based on the PICOT statement,
(P) patients with severe pressure injuries.
(I) is the surgical removal of ulcers.
(C) compared with the administration of antibiotics.
(O) more effective in treatment of pressure injuries.
(T) in the short-term medical plan.

An Analysis of Hourly Rounds and Prevalence of Pressure Ulcer in Hospital
The issue of fall-related injuries among elderly individuals is becoming a major concern in the effort of improving quality healthcare services to elderly individuals. There is an increase in trend towards aging demographic; therefore, it is the responsibility of the healthcare to ensure that there is creation or development of the effective strategies aimed at preventing falls among elderly individuals. One of the key strategies that have been recommended is the use of the hourly rounding proposal in the hospital. This strategy is supported by the literature as being a successful approach used for the purposes of preventing the falls and the improvement of patient safety (Dyck, Thiele, Kebicz, Klassen, & Erenberg, 2013). This paper is therefore aimed at comparing the research questions, a sample of the population, limitations of the studies, and making a conclusion and proposing the recommendation for further research.
Many healthcare facilities are facing clinical issues related to the acquired pressure ulcers. Acquired pressure ulcers still remains one of the persistent and relevant issue that requires agent response especially in the long-term care facilities. Hospitals are making attempts to implement the evidence based procedures even though there is still an increase in the incidence. Efforts are being made to integrate evidence-based strategies to help in curbing acquired pressure ulcers.
Comparing The Research Questions
While doing comparison of the research questions as used by the authors of the selected articles, the article by Mchem et al,. (2019) focuses on the teamwork as well as the good leadership as an effective approach towards reduction of the fall rates (MChem, Meredith, Mascioli, & Cunningham, 2019). The same leadership role is talked about in the article by the author Leone and Adams (2016). According to Leone and Adams (2016), nurse leaders, especially in the rehabilitation centers, have the crucial role in influencing the reduction of the fall rates through ensuring that there is successful execution of the fall prevention strategies and the sustenance of the outcome through promoting the stronger culture (Leone & Adams, 2016). In the article by King et al (2018), the concern is on how the communication process among the healthcare providers is helping in the reduction of the fall rates among the elderly individuals (King, Pecanac, Krupp, Liebzeit, & Mahoney, 2018). The research question used in the article by Brown (2016), the target of the question used is to establish the impact of adopting the hourly rounding on the rates of the patient falls. This is done on basis of looking at how successful the adoption of hourly rounding can be when it comes to the ...

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Module PS 101: Introduction to Patient Safety provides the structural foundation of the vital role patient safety has in a healthcare institution. High reliability was a central theme of the module. A culture of safety is when the employees share a central belief that a healthcare organization supports root cause analysis in patient care (Leape, 2021). It is a significant theme that humans have a predisposition to error, and it is vital to create systems and a safety culture to have a safe environment for patients. It is crucial to develop systems to track and analyze errors as they occur to improve future outcomes by creating safer systems.
When people interact with a healthcare system, they are often at their most valuable state. The number of people dying from medical errors in 2018 was equivalent to a daily jumbo crash (Leape, 2021). Our society would not stand for one plane crash a day, yet often a place whose purpose is to heal hurts. Although humans are prone to error, it is essential to create policies, procedures, and phycological safety to increase safety when people seek healthcare. A facility that commits to embedding safety into policy and procedures and a culture of phycological safety are often referred to as a high-reliability organization (HRO).
Education and empowerment of staff are essential components of building physical safety. Haley & Fritz (2019) used a framework of education and empowerment to improve the rate of urinary tract infections (UTI) in a long-term care (LTC) facility. Haley & Fritz (2019) assessed that evidenced-based signs and symptoms were not consistently utilized in obtaining urine samples to diagnose UTIs. A culture of safety examination showed improvement that could be made. Education and empowerment were done to improve the signs and symptoms used to initiate obtaining a urine sample (Haley & Fritz, 2019). Phycological safety is a vital found.

In addition, falls and their related injuries are responsible for almost 15% of the recorded hospitalization. This increases the burden of healthcare providers especially given the numerous stressors like staff shortage, huge workloads, leadership problems and personal factors among others. An increase in falls and associated injury, therefore, is detrimental to the provision of quality care as captured under the healthy 2020 program goal of reducing deaths that result from falls.

However one of the major healthcare or nursing issue over the years is the fall and associated injuries which have proved not only difficult for healthcare providers and facility to manage. For instance, and according to DuPree, Fritz-Campiz & Musheno, (2014), Unintentional falls constitute the highest cause of non-fatal injuries among people over 65 years in the US. Moreover, one in every three individuals above 65 years falls at least one time in a given year. In addition, injuries from falls cause the highest number of accidental deaths among people 65-year-old and above (Tricco, Thomas, Veroniki, Hamid, Cogo, Strifler & Riva, 2017). Such statistics coupled with the extent of the costs associated with fall call for proper intervention to reduce falls and their associated injuries. For instance, the government spends billions of dollars on fall and their associated injuries on treating falls. The prevention of fall would provide increased funds for investment in other social programs aimed at improving both healthcare and addressing social or communal problems (Zakrajsek, Schuster, Wells, Williams & Silverchanz, 2018).
Comment by Nelson, Emily Jeanette: Reference needed Comment by Nelson, Emily Jeanette: Reference needed
Despite this, falls are very complex and difficult to manage or prevent. Given the implications that falls bear on the patients, the healthcare providers and the healthcare system as a whole (Joseph, Henriksen & Malone, 2018), there has been increased There has been an increased research focus towards fall prevention and reduction strategies. As a result, there exist a significant amount of literature regarding the reduction and prevention of falls..

EBP Project Proposal Draft
Research topic
To assess the role of stigma towards mental health patients in help seeking.
Research problem
Most studies have shown that stigmatization towards mental health patients have been present throughout history and even despite the evolution in modern medicine and advanced treatment. Stigmatization have resulted from the belief that those with mental problem are aggressive and dangerous creating a social distance (Szeto et al., 2017). Also, mental health-related stigma has become of major concern as it creates crucial barriers to access treatment and quality care since it not only influences the behaviour of the patients but also the attitude of the providers hence impacting help-seeking. Most studies have identified stigma as a barrier that is of significance to care or help seeking while the extent to which it still remains a barrier have not been reviewed deeply. Therefore, this study will assess the role contributed by stigma in help seeking in depth.
Research purpose
The intention of the research study is to review the association between stigma, mental illness and help seeking in order to assess in depth the role that mental-health stigma contribute in help seeking.
Research objectives
a) To review the background history of mental-health related stigma and mental problem or illness
b) To explore the impacts of stigma
c) To assess an association between the contributing factors of stigma to help seeking
d) To assess the extent in which these factors of stigma contribute to help seeking.
e) To assess the risk factors influencing help seeking with regard to stigma
Research questions
a) What is the association between stigma towards mental health patients and help-seeking?
b) To what degree does stigma constitute a barrier to the search for help among mental health patients?
c) Are there populations that are more deterred from seeking help due to stigma?
Research Hypothesis
Ho: stigma towards mental health patients have a significant role in influencing help seeking
Ha: the extent to which stigma influences help seeking is not significant
Theoretical framework
Stigma has been described as a negative effect of a label and the product of disgrace that makes a person to be apart from others (Henderson et al., 2013). It is built upon distinct constructs prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes (Henderson et al., 2013). For example, believing that those people diagnosed with mental illness is stereotype. Also, agreeing with the fact that those with mental problem are indeed dangerous with a resultant fear or anger is prejudice while discrimination is the total avoidance to those with mental conditi.

Questions
1. Have you recently engaged in risky behaviors such as binge eating, unsafe sex, gambling, drug and substance abuse, or risky driving?
1. How would you describe your relationships with people such as your spouse, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and strangers while considering aspects of anger, irritability, and violence?
1. Do you have a recurring problem of variant moods that result to interpersonal stress, feeling of emptiness, and other challenges that are stress-related and they push you towards suicidal thoughts?
People to speak to
It is crucial to identify the right people to provide essential details for the assessment of the patient. Some of the most important people include the spouses, siblings, family friends, personal friends, and neighbors. Furthermore, the patient’s colleagues can provide important information regarding the behaviors of the patient and help in identifying issues that the patient could be hiding. Speaking to the people to whom the patient exercises authority is important in attaining the true image of the person.
Physical exam and diagnostic test
The disorder is mental, but it can be assessed through physical exams that indicate how the brain is working in relation to actions ( Stahl 2013). Fixing a puzzle would be an effective way of testing the patient and how stable they can be. The other approach is engaging the patient in a physical exercise and observing their participation. Physical exams provide a diagnostic insight to test how the patient relates with others.
Diagnoses
Personality Disorder
Mood Disorder
Depression with psychotic features
Pharmacological agents
Application of antidepressants
Use of antipsychotics
Administering mood-stabilizing drugs
Contradictions or Alterations
It is a complex situation to treat a complex and long-term unstable disorder of mood because the patients experience different emotions even during therapy (Yasuda & Huang 2008). It becomes difficult to separate mood disorder from personality disorder especially for difficult patient like in this case. Furthermore, there are no specific drugs that can be used for treatment without additional therapy since this patient is able to adjust or play with their own treatment as a physician. The mental condition observed in the patient requires a careful approach due to the delicate situations involving suicidal thoughts and aggression.
Lessons Learned
In the case study “The case of physician do not heal thyself,” the lessons include the importance of conducting a complete assessment of the patient and including other people who interact with the patient. It would be more effective to treat such conditions if the patients had stable emotions, but strategic approaches can help to streamline the treatment process ( Stahl 2014b).

Causal relationships between risk estimates and alcohol consumptio.docxcravennichole326
Causal relationships between risk estimates and alcohol consumption must be made cautiously as most studies have used a cross-sectional methodology, poor definitions of alcohol use, and inadequate assessments of risk perceptions. Despite a lack of evidence, the concept of adolescent “invulnerability” remains pervasive in both scientific and lay circles, is used to explain adolescents' decisions to engage in a potentially harmful behavior and is incorporated into many intervention programs (Fell, et al., 2015). Longitudinal, prospective studies are needed to understand fully the extent to which perceptions of low risk predict and motivate alcohol use.
I. Perceptions of Alcohol-Related Benefits:
An emphasis on perceived risk alone may be inadequate to predict or change behavior because a risk is only part of the behavioral decision-making equation. What is missing knows the extent to which adolescents perceive benefits of risky behaviors. The decision literature has argued that individuals should consider both the risks and benefits when making decisions. In addition, alcohol expectancy researchers have found that perceived benefits, in addition to perceived risks, are significant predictors of drinking behavior. More recently, Goldberg and colleagues (2002) concluded that, regardless of age, participants with more drinking experience perceived benefits to be more likely to occur, and risks less likely (Grube & Voas, 2014).
Indeed, adolescents' reasons for drinking alcohol often include an acknowledgment or identification of alcohol-related benefits, such as alcohol being used in social interactions to help them to reduce inhibitions, feel more relaxed reduce tension, foster courage, and reduce worry. Critique of Quantitative, Qualitative, or Mixed Method Design
Both quantitative and qualitative methods play a pivotal role in nursing research. Qualitative research helps nurses and other healthcare workers to understand the experiences of the patients on health and illness. Quantitative data allows researchers to use an accurate approach in data collection and analysis. When using quantitative techniques, data can be analyzed using either descriptive statistics or inferential statistics which allows the researchers to derive important facts like demographics, preference trends, and differences between the groups. The paper comprehensively critiques quantitative and quantitative techniques of research. Furthermore, the author will also give reasons as to why qualitative methods should be regarded as scientific.
The overall value of quantitative and Qualitative Research
Quantitative studies allow the researchers to present data in terms of numbers. Since data is in numeric form, researchers can apply statistical techniques in analyzing it. These include descriptive statistics like mean, mode, median, standard deviation and inferential statistics such as ANOVA, t-tests, correlation and regression analysis. Statistical analysis allows us to derive important facts from data such as preference trends, demographics, and differences between groups. For instance, by conducting a mixed methods study to determine the feeding experiences of infants among teen mothers in North Carolina, Tucker and colleagues were able to compare breastfeeding trends among various population groups. The multiple groups compared were likely to initiate breastfeeding as follows: Hispanic teens 89%, Black American teens 41%, and White teens 52% (Tucker et al., 2011).
The high strength of quantitative analysis lies in providing data that is descriptive. The descriptive statistics helps us to capture a snapshot of the population. When analyzed appropriate, the descriptive data enables us to make general conclusions concerning the population. For instance, through detailed data analysis, Tucker and co-researchers were able to observe that there were a large number of adolescents who ceased breastfeeding within the first month drawing the need for nurses to conduct individualized follow-ups the early days after hospital discharge. These follow-ups would significantly assist in addressing the conventional technical problems and offer support in managing back to school transition (Tucker et al., 2011).
Qualitative research allows researchers to determine the client’s perspective on healthcare. It enables researchers to observe certain behaviors and experiences amo.

This article investigated the effect of China’s one-child policy on different behaviors, comparing behavioral trends in people who were born in the years just before and just after the implementation of the one-child policy. One of the more notable results was that participants born under the one-child policy scored higher in neuroticism and lower in contentiousness in comparison with those born before the policy. The study concluded that the observed behavioral differences between those born just before and just after the one-child policy would greatly magnify as time went on, due to very limited extended family and living in a world of predominantly only children. This article provides valuable insight into the behavioral changes of the average person in China as a result of the one-child policy. The authors were able to use data that was actively generated for this article, rather than piecing together already-existing data like many other studies on the subject, which was very refreshing to see. This article would provide a solid resource to use as it presents a very data-based approach to this aspect of the one-child policy.

The authors of this study examined the correlation between China’s one-child policy and China’s sharp increase of reported twin births. The authors found that although China’s fertility rate was already decreasing before the advent of the policy, the number of reported twins had increased by one third in the last 30 years, sharply rising in 1979 when the one-child policy was fully implemented. The data suggested that there was a strong correlation between reported twin births and areas of China with higher fines for having more children than allowed. One of the key indicators used by the authors to determine fake twins was height differences between the children. Some of the limitations of this study included that the evidence for fake twins was merely s ...

Literature Review: Childhood Obesity
The prevalence of childhood obesity in the United States has increased at such a rapid rate that this has been considered a serious healthcare issue. This issue has attracted the attention of policy makers, government agencies, and the community. Due to the extent of the problem, a large number of researchers have investigated a number of factors relating to childhood obesity. One of the factors that have been investigated is the impact of changing the attitudes of the patients towards obesity and lifestyle factors that cause a risk factor. In this study, the main factor being investigated is the impact of education on exercise and diet on patients who have a BMI of more than 30. The following is a summary of a review of the literature used to determine the impact of educating patients on exercise and diet changes.
Comparison of Research Questions
Most of the literature analyzed for this study focuses on the intervention strategies for childhood obesity. Cheung et al. seeks to understand the extent of the childhood obesity in America. The research asks about the incidence of childhood obesity in America in a bid to demonstrate the extent of the problem.
Ickes et al. (2014) research question compares the intervention strategies used in the American schools and international ones. The main aim of this study is to determine the gaps in the intervention used in American school ...

Critical Research Appraisal Assignment
Nursing research uncovers new knowledge to help build the foundation of clinical practice. Research can help prevent diseases and disabilities, help manage symptoms, establish new treatment plans and improve nursing skills. This is why nurses need to be able to participate in and analyze research, as this can bring positive outcomes to their careers and the health of their patients. There are two different types of research, quantitative and qualitative, that provide information and data. For this assignment, I chose one qualitative research that focuses on the stress and burnout experienced by nursing professionals and one quantitative analysis that explores nurses’ knowledge regarding hand hygiene. Each study will be evaluated thoroughly and analyzed.
Qualitative Research
The definition of qualitative research can be challenging. Qualitative research involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data to understand concepts, opinions, or experiences (Morgan et al., 2021). This form of research explores deeper insights into real-world problems in an emergent and holistic way. Qualitative data can be collected using various methods such as interviews, focus groups, observations, and documentation analysis (Hoover, 2021). Qualitative research has been used in nursing for many years, but it was not the first method used in nursing. Before quantitative research, philosophical methods such as hermeneutics and phenomenology were the only options for professional inquiry (Butts & Rich, 2017). However, it was changed to qualitative research because its ways were incompatible with science. There are three major approaches to qualitative research, (1) ethnography, based on anthropology, (2) phenomenology, drawn from philosophy; and (3) grounded theory, drawn from sociology (Morgan et al., 2021). The use of qualitative studies is common due to its many strengths, such as providing multiple methods of data collection, more detailed information, and how it can refine and strengthen quantitative research. However, some of the limitations of this form of research are difficulty analyzing and collecting data while being more time-consuming.
Evaluating and Analyzing a Selected Qualitative Study
For the example of the qualitative study, I chose Luis M. Dos Santos's study, which focused on the effects of stress, burnout, and low self-efficacy in nursing professionals. The quantitative research aimed to understand and explore how social and environmental factors influence nursing professionals’ self-efficacy. In the study, the Social Cognitive Theory was used to define how each subject was affected based on their thoughts, behaviors, feeling, and personal beliefs (Dos Santos, 2020). For this research study, the phenomenological approach and analysis were used thought the survey to collec ...

As a nursing practitioner, the major roles include the assessment of the needs of the patients. A nursing practitioner also orders and interprets test from laboratories, they do illness and disease diagnosis, medication prescription and formulate plans for treatment. There are a number of challenges that face the nurse in their field of practices. This paper will focus to discuss the hazards in the workspace of these practitioners. It will also seek to find a way of solving these challenge using innovative means.
The Problem of Interest
Hazard in The Nursing Field.
The nursing field of practice is one of the most dangerous places of working as one does work in a delicate environment where one is in the risks of being infected or even injuring oneself. Nurses are faced with a number of risks in daily job activities. Some of these hazards include injuries, flu germs, hand washing –related dermatitis and pathogens that are based in the blood among others.
According to the report produced by OSHA, about 5.6 million of 12.2 million workers are under the risk of being exposed to blood borne pathogens. This is a big number of health workers under the risk meaning that soon there will be a shortage of health nursing or health workers in general. Moreover, the rates of risks are higher in the health care industry than any other industries. This industry has registered around 35000 injuries covering different parts of the body. These range from the shoulders, hands, feet, and back. These statistics are according to the Bureau Labor Statistics (Gooch, 2015).
Apart from the acute injuries discussed, they also suffer harm exposed on their hands. From a recent study carried out in the University of Manchester, the health workers that follow protocols are 4.5 times exposed to skin damage risks. The report also reported up to 25 percent of cases of irritant contact dermatitis.
These individuals also get exposed to infectious diseases in their areas of practice. One of the most commonly contacted infection is Hepatitis B (HBV). This is infection can be contacted via blood contact, feces, saliva, and semen. This instrument of spreading the infection is in contact with the patient and also the needles (Gooch, 2015). Nursing practitioners also risk exposure to toxic substances in the clinical environment. Radiation is another risk that comes majorly from the ionizing radiation. Complications associated with radiation include skin cancer, leukemia, and cancer among others. One comes to contact with this radiation in the instances of performing x-ray scans. Another challenge that faces nursing.

The theoretical basis that led to the research was an increased number of injuries resulting from pressure ulcers, and this led to the need for having a study to find the ways that were effective for preventing such occurrences.
The theoretical framework that led to this study was that pressure ulcers have become a major challenge and a challenging goal when it came to providing healthcare for pressure ulcer patients. Therefore, it led to the need to have a study that could deal with the challenge.
The theoretical framework that necessitated this research was the incidence of pressure ulcers that were increasing because of the poor and aging population as well as the elderly that were living with incidences of disability.
Pressure ulcers were highly associated with significant mortality and morbidity and high costs of healthcare services, and this led to the need for a study to review the situation.

A clinical pediatric nurse has noticed a rise in childhood cancer diagnoses among the Hispanic population served by the local clinic. The nurse is concerned about this increase in cancer incidence in the patient population and turns to the literature to explore current research on this topic. The nurse finds through the reading that there appears to be an association between parental smoking and childhood cancer and wonders if this could be the cause of the rise in cases.
This type of suspected association between a risk factor (exposure) and a particular outcome (childhood cancer) can be evaluated using an observational study design. This week, you were introduced to observational study designs used in epidemiology. For this Discussion, you will identify an epidemiologic association of interest (e.g., smoking and lung cancer, obesity and heart disease, hormone replacement/modification therapy and breast cancer) and determine an appropriate observational study design for exploring that association.
To prepare:
Review the different types of observational study designs presented in the Learning Resources: ecologic, cross-sectional, case-control, and cohort.
Carefully examine the characteristics, strengths, and limitations of each design.
Consider an association between a risk factor and a particular health outcome that is of interest to you. Then, select the observational study design you think would be the most appropriate for exploring this association.
Consider how using observational study designs can lead to improvements in population health.
By tomorrow 03/14/2018 12 noon, write a minimum of 550 words in APA format with at least 3 scholarly references from the list of required readings below. Include the level one headings as numbered below:
Post
a cohesive response that addresses the following:
1) Identify the association between the risk factor and health outcome you selected and suggest which observational study design you feel is most appropriate for examining that association.
2) Support your selection of the observational design, noting its strengths and limitations for addressing the health problem.
3) What might you be able to learn by using your selected study design that might lead to improvements in population health? Support your response with evidence from the literature.

Please read the description of the Religion ethnography carefully and then ask me in class to explain anything that isn't clear. You can also email me with questions.
At the end there is a short list of possible sites for the ethnography: Sikh, Islamic, Jewish, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist. Shumei. There are other religions and many other sites. Bahai is an interesting religion but you have to be invited to attend by a member.
Mormon the same.
If you have access to a Santeria or similar ceremony, great!
To make the project worthwhile choose a site as different from your own background as you can.
If you have a Christian or Catholic background do not do your paper on any kind of Christian or Catholic service.
You are welcome to attend a non-English language service as long as you understand the language being used.
Be sure to okay your choice with me. Some places that don’t work for this project are Scientology, the Self Realization Fellowship, the Kabbalah Center, SGI Buddhist, Hare Krishna.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Attend a religious activity that you’re curious about and would like to explore.
You must attend a service, not simply visit a religious site.
Examples: a mosque, temple, synagogue, gurdwara.
You can probably find an interesting place of worship near where you live or work.
It’s always a good idea to phone or email the place of worship before you attend.
Research methods must include participant/observation and informal conversation. One slightly more formal interview is desirable.
Be absolutely sure to allow time to stay after the service for food, lunch, other refreshment, or informal gathering. This may well be the most important part of your experience and will enable you to answer the question, “What meaning does this place and this service have for the participants?
You must go some place you’ve never been to before. Do NOT choose your own tradition or somewhere you’re even a bit familiar with. Choose somewhere entirely new and different.
The important thing is to come to the service as an outsider, with the eyes and ears of an anthropologist and take note of everything. Use the skills you’ve learned in this class.
You can attend alone or with a co-researcher or two from the class. Best, you can be the guest(s) of a classmate or someone else you know and discuss the event with them. Invite a classmate or two to attend a service from your tradition.
Do not write about an event you attended in the past. But you can use past experiences for comparison and reflection.
It is almost never appropriate to jot down notes during a religious service. Better, write everything you remember immediately after the event. Get sufficient detail to write what anthropologist Clifford Geertz called “thick”, or rich description.
In writing your paper use terms we've discussed in class and think about connections to the reading we’ve done and films we’ve seen.

PLEASE read the question carefully.
The creation of “teen idols” is a tradition that stems back to Tin Pan Alley and the “old guard” way of making music. What were some of the factors that led to this point in the early 60’s? Is it still prevalent? If so, why? Name some examples.

Case Number 7. The case of physician do not heal thyself
Questions

Conceptual Framework

Observational Study Designs

This unit's chapter discussed concerns about quality programming in the media. Different models for assessing culture were discussed:
1) Culture as a Skyscraper Model and 2) Culture as a Map.
Come up with several television shows that serve as examples of “quality” programs and “trashy” programs. What characteristics determine their quality (plots, subject matter, themes, characters…)?
Is there anything you can think of that is “universally trashy”? Or universally in good taste?
On the whole, are Americans seen as having good taste? Why or why not? Is there a country/culture that always seems tasteful in its cultural products?
Which model (Culture as Skyscraper or Culture as Map) makes more sense to you and why?

Write A Review and include those questions!!!
The review should include:
1. The names of the performing groups/artists; the date and location of the performance.
2. Describe the setting. Is it a large hall or an intimate theater? What type of audience demographic is there? Young or old? How do they respond to the music?
3. The different styles/genres of songs the artist(s) perform.
4. Use your notes and experience to describe the different musical elements (i.e. melody, harmony, timbre, technology, form, volume, etc.) you recognize in most (if not all) the songs/pieces.
5. Be sure to arrive on time to hear the
entire concert.
6. Attach a photo of the flyer, ticket, or webpage (or social media event) when you submit this assignment.
7. Describe your personal reaction to the concert. List reasons why you think it was successful or not. However, do not make this the center of your paper. It should be
one or two paragraphs at the end. Further, use
data to support your arguments about why it was successful or not successful. (e.g., How did people respond verbally and non-verbally? Was this based on your perception or was there a general consensus? If it is a consensus, then what facts do you have to support this?)
8. Try to do some background research on the genre or artist before and after you attend the concert. This is not a research paper, but if you use any information from any source (including the artist's website), you
must cite it both in-text and on a works-cited page.

Johnson & Johnson’s Tylenol Crisis
Background
“The killer’s motives remain unknown, but his — or her, or their — technical
savvy is as chilling today as it was 30 years ago.
On Sept. 29, 1982, three people died in the Chicago area after taking
cyanide-laced Tylenol at the outset of a poisoning spree that would claim seven
lives by Oct. 1. The case has never been solved, and so the lingering question —
why? — still haunts investigators.
Food and Drug Administration officials hypothesized that the killer bought
Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules over the counter, injected cyanide into the red
half of the capsules, resealed the bottles, and sneaked them back onto the shelves
of drug and grocery stores. The Illinois attorney general, on the other hand,
suspected a disgruntled employee on Tylenol’s factory line. In either case, it was a
sophisticated and ambitious undertaking with the seemingly pathological go.

They are all about Art and Politics in Renaissance Florence Period
1. Short Paper
Street corners, guild halls, government offices, and confraternity centers contained works of art that made the city of Florence a visual jewel at precisely the time of its emergence as a European cultural leader. In shared religious and secular spaces, people from the city of Florence commissioned altarpieces, chapels, buildings, textiles, all manner of objects – at home, interior spaces were animated with smaller-scale works, such as family portraits, birth trays, decorated pieces of furniture, all of which relied on patrons, artists, and audiences working with the beauty and power of sensory experience. Like people all over Europe, viewers believed in the power of images, and they shared an understanding of the persuasiveness of art and architecture. Florentines accepted the utterly vital role that art could play as a propagator of civic, corporate, religious, political and individual identity.
Select one or two of the test case studies [that is, talk about Cosimo or Lorenzo the Magnificent or Savonarola's impact on Florence or the new Republic under Soderini] from this Module on Art and Politics in Renaissance Florence, and explore your understanding of people in Florence, who was so alive to the power and communication possibilities in works of art, objects, and spaces throughout the city and beyond.

450-500 words that explores these key concepts;
In this discussion post, talk about the political and social messages that you can see in the various works of art commissioned by the Medici, all the while being aware of the debate that was circulating about power and religion. If the content of the work of art is religious, how does the work convey political messages?

Abstract
Background: Co-administration of multiple intravenous (IV) medicines down the
same lumen of an IV catheter is often necessary in the intensive care unit (ICU) while
ensuring medicine compatibility.
Aims and objectives: This study explores ICU nurses' views on the everyday practice
surrounding co-administration of multiple IV medicines down the same lumen.
Design: Qualitative study using focus group interviews.
Methods: Three focus groups were conducted with 20 ICU nurses across two hospi-
tals in the Thames Valley Critical Care Network, England. Participants' experience of
co-administration down the same lumen and means of assessing compatibility were
explored. All focus groups were recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analysed using
thematic analysis. Functional Resonance Analysis Method was used to provide a
visual representation of the co-administration process.
Results: Two key themes were identified as essential during the process of co-admin-
istration, namely, venous access and resources. Most nurses described insufficient
venous access and lack of compatibility data for commonly used medicines (eg, anal-
gesics and antibiotics) as particular challenges. Strategies such as obtaining additional
venous access, prioritizing infusions, and swapping line of infusion were used to man-
age IV administration pro.

Summary Using meta-analysis, we compare three attitudinal outcomes (i.e., job satisfaction, affective
commitment, and turnover intent), three behavioral outcomes (i.e., interpersonal deviance,
organizational deviance, and work performance), and four health-related outcomes (i.e.,
general health, depression, emotional exhaustion, and physical well being) of workplace
aggression from three different sources: Supervisors, co-workers, and outsiders. Results from
66 samples show that supervisor aggression has the strongest adverse effects across the
attitudinal and behavioral outcomes. Co-worker aggression had stronger effects than outsider
aggression on the attitudinal and behavioral outcomes, whereas there was no significant
difference between supervisor, co-worker, and outsider aggression for the majority of the
health-related outcomes. These results have implications for how workplace aggression is
conceptualized and measured, and we propose new research questions that emphasize a multi-
foci approach. Copyright # 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
I admit that, before I was bullied, I couldn’t understand why employees would shy-away from doing
anything about it. When it happened to me, I felt trapped. I felt like either no one believed me or no
one cared. This bully was my direct boss and went out of his way to make me look and feel
incompetent. . . I dreaded going to work and cried myself to sleep every night. I was afraid of
losing my job because I started to question my abilities and didn’t think I’d find work elsewhere.

Judicial OpinionsOverview After the simulation, justices writ.docxSusanaFurman449
Judicial Opinions
Overview: After the simulation, justices write judicial opinions in reaction to the oral argument, merits briefs, conference, and draft opinions as well as the facts of the case, Constitution, and case law. Justices circulate drafts so they know how their colleagues plan to rule and why, and so they can respond to one another in their final judicial opinion draft.
Instructions: You are a Supreme Court justice preparing an opinion for announcement. Read the case materials: case hypothetical, merits briefs, and judicial opinion drafts of your colleagues, and review your notes from oral argument and conference. Write a majority opinion resolving the major legal question in light of the facts of the case, Constitution, and case law, as well as all case materials: merits briefs, oral argument, and the views of your colleagues (in conference and draft opinions). Opinions must support an argument, refute counterarguments, and respond to attorneys (oral argument and/or merits briefs), and fellow justices (conference and/or draft opinions).
Opinions should contain the following five elements, in the following order:
1. an introductory statement of the nature, procedural posture, and prior result of the case;
2. a statement of the issues to be decided;
3. a statement of the material facts;
4. a discussion of the governing legal principles and resolution of the issues; and
5. the disposition and necessary instructions.
Each of these is developed further below.
Assessment: Complete opinions must support an argument, refute counterarguments, and respond to attorneys (oral argument and/or merits briefs), and fellow justices (conference and/or draft opinions). Strong opinions will be well organized, logically argued, and well supported through reference to and explanation of Supreme Court decisions and legal principles. Assessment rests on how well you make use of, identify, and explain relevant course material. It also rests on staying in character and not diverging from your justice’s political ideology and/or judicial philosophy.
Introduction
The purpose of the Introduction is to orient the reader to the case. It should state briefly what the case is about, the legal subject matter, and the result. It may also cover some or all of the following:
1. The parties: The parties should be identified, if not in the Introduction, then early in the opinion, preferably by name, and names should be used consistently throughout. (The use of legal descriptions, such as “appellant” and “appellee,” tends to be confusing, especially in multi-party cases.)
2. The procedural and jurisdictional status: relevant prior proceedings, and how the case got before the court should be outlined.
Statement of issues
The statement of issues is the cornerstone of the opinion; how the issues are formulated determines which facts are material and what legal principles govern. Judges should not be bound by the attorneys’.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. Hello Dr Kyzar and Class
· Does the research design answer the research question?
Explain your rationale.
Lloyd et al., 2018 focused at establishig whether the
school-based interventions for children of ages 9-10 years
would help in preventive excessive weight gain after 24 months.
The researchers used pragmatic cluster randomized controlled
trial of the Healthier Lifestyle Programme (HeLP) which is a
school-based obesity prevention intervention that was
performed in 32 schools found in the southwest England. This
method is revealing school as the ideal location for the
childhood obesity preventiuon programs due to the near-
universal reach f children in the socioeconomic spectrum. It
also shows the importance of the change in the diet and physical
activity behaviors and their impacts on the weight status (Lloyd,
et al., 2018). Were the study sample participants
representative? Why or why not?
The sample calculation assumed a mean of 35 children age
9-10 years in every school and this implies that a total of 1,120
samples were used. This is a good number that can represents
the problems at the 32 schools that were being targeted by the
researchers.
Compare and contrast the study limitations in this study.
The findings of the study shows that the effectiveness
of the school-based obesity prevention programmed is
inconclusive and contradictory. The interventions used are
highly heterogenous in the design and most of the studies used
for the research have some methodological weaknesses for
example the inadequate statistical power, greater levels of
attrition, differential uptake, follow-up, and the short-lived
follow-up.
· Based on this evidence summary, would you consider this
systematic review as support for your selected practice
problem? Explain your rationale.
2. Two themes were considered to be important i.e. energy in
and decision making and the responsibility. It is clear that
school hosts many children and can therefore be used as ideal
place to deliver the population-based interventions. Even
though it might not adequately intensed to affect both school
and the family environment hence wieght of the children, it
needs to be promoted since it helps in changing the health
behaviors of the children. This is important in addressing the
issue of childhood obesity sinnce it helps in promoting healthy
behaviors among children (Lloyd , et al., 2018).

Evidence Synthesis

Hi Dr Kyzar and class
Whether the author identified the scope of evidence synthesis
The scope of the evidence synthesis is focused on the issue
of patient falls with injuries and the challenges related to the
prevention of falls within the acute cares settings. The author
has identified this scope by drawing pieces of evidence from
various authors. The evidence drawn from the previous studies
indicates that the issue of patient falls is a major adverse event
that interferes with the quality of healthcare services that are
being provided to the patients within the acute care settings for
example nursing homes and healthcare facilities. The study
reveals that the detrimental effects caused by the issues of
patients' falls are associated with serious bruises, trauma,
fractures, and death of the patients when it is not prevented at
the right time (Araujo, et al., 2017).
The evidence also supports the focus of the author by
revealing that the issue of falls is a common problem that is
being experienced by elderly patients. It shows that one in every
three individuals more than 65 years old suffer from at least one
fall every year. This is associated with either alone of combined
factors such as environmental factors, social factors,
psychological factors. Therefore, the author has managed to
gather the literature that helps in addressing the research area
that is to say the issue of patient falls. The author has managed
to synthesize the literature by comparing the literature studies
referenced in this work. The author has managed to assess and
interpret to help in concluding on the issue of patients' falls and
how it is becoming an issue within the acute care and to the
healthcare providers (Araujo, et al., 2017).
Whether stronger paraphrased sentences are included to help in
supporting the contemporary sources of research evidence
Through providing the description, summary, analysis,
4. and identification of the key concepts; there is successful
paraphrasing of the sentences to help in supporting the sources
of the research evidence. The evidence from one of the research
evidence used i.e. (Gygax Spicer, 2017) shows the issue of falls
to be a common problem amongst elderly individuals due to the
factors that are either combined or occurring singularly. These
factors include social, environmental, and psychological factors.
This evidence is supported by the paraphrased sentence which
states that the etiology of falls among their elderly patients is as
a result of attempting to get out of the bed without any form of
assistance from the team of healthcare providers such as nurses.
The issue is further increased by other causative factors such as
diseases, impulsiveness, urgency, medications, and lack of
knowledge about the hospital environment. Another issue that is
paraphrased to support the evidence from the research is the
turnover problem among healthcare providers. Due to the
inadequate number of healthcare providers such as nurses to
spend more time with the patients, these elderly remains to be
highly exposed to the risk of falls as a result of the low ratio of
nurse to the patient (Gygax, 2017).
Whether the facts presented are related to the practice problem
that has been presented in an objective way
The facts presented in the article through research
evidence and conclusion from the research findings have been
done objectively and they are based on the issue of patient falls
and injuries and fall prevention. One of these facts is that the
issue of patient falls is a common problem within acute care
facilities such as nursing homes and hospitals. They are linked
to some of the preventable factors related to the social,
environmental, and psychological factors. Due to the reduction
in the ability to perform most of the ADLs, elderly patients are
considered to be high-risk individuals who require help from the
nurses to overcome the issue of falls which increases the risks
of preventable injuries and deaths. These patients also
experience the side effects of the medications, illness,
impulsiveness, and urgency thus exposing them to a high risk of
5. falls when effective interventions are not developed (Araujo, et
al., 2017).
The other key fact linked to the issue of fall prevention is
the lack of adequate nurses to help patients with their needs
such as pottying and movement within the hospital. Due to the
lack of knowledge about the hospital environment as well as
lack of adequate to respond to their needs immediately, elderly
patients remain highly exposed to severe bruises, fractures,
traumas, and preventable deaths (Araujo, et al., 2017).
Whether the author uses sources to support the ideas and claims
The argument presented by the author is supported by the
evidence from past studies. According to the argument from the
author, the issue of falls among patients occurs as a result of
their attempts to get out of bed without any form of assistance
from the nurses. The author also argues that patients' falls is
also associated with the urgency, illness, medication being used
by the patients, impulsiveness, and unfamiliarity with the
hospital environment in addition to the increase in the turnover
of the nurse staffing which reduces the number of nurses in the
hospitals.
These arguments are supported by the research evidence
used by the author. According to Gygax Spicer (2017), one to
three persons of ages 65 years and above do suffer from at least
one fall every year as a result of multiple factors that are linked
to social, environmental, and psychological factors. The issue of
illness, impulsiveness, urgency, and medication as presented by
the author is the social and psychological factors that are
demonstrated in the research evidence. The issue of a low
number of patients is an environmental factor within the
hospital facility. This increases the level of exposure of these
patients to the risk of falls (Gygax, 2017). According to the
author, patients always attempt to get out of their bed without
any assistance from the nurses. Due to the lack of knowledge
about the environment of the hospitals, the majority of them
fall. De Medeiros Araujo et al (2015) shows that such falls
expose them to mild and severe bruises, fractures, traumas, and
6. even deaths. The few numbers of nurses in the facility imply
that there would be no nurses left to keep an eye on other
patients who might require help with pottying and bathing (de
Medeiros Araujo, et al., 2017).
Whether this exemplar is a true synthesis of the evidence
The exemplar presented is a true synthesis of the evidence
concerning the issue of patient falls and the complex nature of
preventing such falls. Even though the presentation is majorly
based on the arguments based on the research evidence, the
information presented is a true reflection of what is happening
in acute care settings. Even though efforts have been made to
help in addressing the issue of patient falls, the evidence
synthesis further confirms that addressing this issue is still
complicated as a result of the high turnover that leads to the low
number of nurses to care for the growing number of patients
who are seeking services for their chronic conditions. The low
number of nursing staff makes it impossible to implement the
nursing hourly rounds and this complicates the interventions of
efforts being made to ensure that there is the successful process
of implementing the nursing hourly rounds (Araujo, et al.,
2017).
The issue of patient falls is also associated with the
problems caused by the medication and the psychological issues
of the patients. The reduction in physical strength and mental
well-being results in the reduction of the ability of the patients
to perform their ADLs such as bathing. In acute care, these
patients require help from the patients with the roles such as
bathing and pottying. Due to the lack of adequate nurses, it
makes it hard for these patients to have their needs rendered at
the right time. Therefore, they are forced to get out of bed with
no form of help from the nurses. Due to their reduced physical
and mental ability as well as lack of knowledge about the
hospital environment, they find themselves falling on the
ground thus exposing them to mild to severe bruises, fractures,
trauma, and death. Therefore, the effective process of
addressing the issue of patients' falls requires the process of
7. dealing with the complications within the facility at first for
example addressing the issue of lower nurse-patient ratios and
improvement in the hospital environment by increasing the
number of caregivers within the wards while nurses are busy
caring for other patients (Araujo, et al., 2017).

Hello Dr Kyzar and Class
According to Abbade et al (2016), PICOT format is used in
the comparative research studies on the relationship between the
exposure and the outcome. The exposure in this case can be
considered to be the newly developed intervention that is
targeted at addressing health issues. This discussion is therefore
focused on looking at the two-practice question based on the
PICOT format to help in driving the practice change (Abbade et
al., 2016).
Practice Question 1
Identification of the PICOT components
Population: children of ages between 5 to 19 years with a body
mass index (BMI) of more than
Intervention: the use of the motivational interviewing during a
regularly well-child scheduled visitation and its influence on
the BMI, BP, quality of life, and the daily physical exercise
Compared: Usual practice is compared to the intervention of
motivational interviewing in the regular well-child visitation.
Outcome: the implementation intervention i.e. motivational
interviewing influences improvement in the BMI, daily physical
9. exercise, and quality of life.
Time: 8-10 weeks
The keywords used in the identification of the practice question
The keywords or terms that guide the search process to
facilitate the process of responding to the practice questions
include the motivational interviewing, regular well-child
visitation, the BMI, the quality of life, the physical exercise,
blood pressure (BP), and the 8-10 weeks timeframe.
To respond to the practice question further, a researched-
based intervention focused is on the use of motivational
interviewing. One of the articles generated from the research
work is by Luque et al (2019) that involved the use of the
Obemat2.0 trial. The Obemat2.0 trial was used to assess the
effectiveness of multi-component motivational program to treat
childhood obesity that is linked between the primary care and
hospitals specialized services when compared to the usual
intervention that is carried out in the primary care (Luque, et
al., 2019).
The authors performed a cluster randomized clinical trial
through the use of the two intervention arms i.e. the
motivational intervention group and usual care group as the
control using 167 study subjects. In the motivational
intervention, there were motivational interviewing, learning
materials, the utilization of the electronic health physical
activity monitor and three group-based gatherings. Based on the
results from the study, the primary results show an increase in
the score of the body mass index before and after 12 or 12 plus
3 months implementation. The secondary results i.e. the pre and
post intervention included the compliance to the medication, the
waist circumference, fat mass index, the fat-free mass index, the
total body weight, and the mineral density of the borne (Luque,
et al., 2019).
The research-evidence based intervention being addressed
The research-evidence based intervention was the
motivational interventions such as motivational interviewing,
learning materials, the utilization of the electronic health
10. physical activity monitor, and the three group-based sessions
(Luque, et al., 2019).
The quantifiable outcomes and how they will be measures
The quantifiable outcomes from the article include body
mass index, compliance to the treatment, waist circumference,
fat mass index, fat-free mass index, the mineral density of the
bone, lipid profile of the blood, the glucose metabolism, the
psychological issues, and the total body weight. These are the
key components that are associated with obesity. The
assessment of the outcome is based on looking at whether there
is an increase or reduction in the BMI based on the z score after
the implementation period; whether there is an improvement in
the adherence process to the medication; and looking at the
changes in the score of other parameters mentioned above, for
example, the waist circumference, glucose metabolism and the
mineral density of the bone marrow (Luque, et al., 2019).
The valid measurements or tools
The measurement tool used for the measurement of the
quantifiable data was Obemat2.0. This tool was used to assess
the effectiveness of the multicomponent motivational program
to help in treating childhood obesity. The multicomponent
motivation program included the motivational interviewing, the
learning materials, and utilization of the electronic health
physical activity monitor (Luque, et al., 2019).
Whether the practice question can be answered within the
specified period
The 8 to 10 weeks period is inadequate to measure as well
as give accurate and reliable data that would reveal the true
picture on the impacts of the intervention. The generated data
would not be enough to implement the proposed intervention
since the reduction in the BMI, the improvement in the physical
activities, and the quality of life requires adequate time for the
assessment. The time is also limited concerning factors such as
resources required, making contact with the patients, and the
measurements of the outcomes (Luque, et al., 2019).
Practice Question 2
11. Identification of the PICOT elements
Population: the adult care patients
Intervention: the implementation of the research-based skincare
integrity bundle
Comparison: the implementation of the intervention that
involves the use of the researched-based skincare integrity
bundle is being compared to the standard care practice that does
not involve any intervention to impact the hospital-associated
pressure injuries.
Outcome: the implementation of the intervention will influence
the rates of the hospital-associated pressures injuries
Time: the 8 to 10 weeks of the implementation process of the
proposed intervention
The keywords used identified in practice question
Some of the key terms focused on in this research question
include the skincare integrity bundle, standard care, critical care
patients or population, hospital-acquired pressure injuries, the
incidence of the skincare integrity bundles, and the 8 to 10
weeks timeframe.
Based on the use of the above terms, the generated
research-based evidence is by Cruz (2020) that focused on the
impacts of using pressure preventive bundle within 2 months.
The author aimed at implementing the intervention involving
the use of the intervention for the reduction of the rates of the
pressure injuries amongst adult in the ICU. The author reports
that patient in the ICU units is at high risk of pressure injuries
as a result of the acuity diagnosis. Therefore, they need a longer
type of healthcare services, medical procedures, and the
application of various types of medical equipment (Cruz, 2020
).
The research-based evidence intervention
In this study, the evidence presented to help in addressing
the issue of pressure injuries among patients in the ICU is the
preventive bundles. According to the author, this evidence-
based intervention helps reduce the reported incidences of the
pressure injuries amongst adult patients within the ICU. The
12. author further reveals that the intervention can be used to
assess, examine, and to offer continuous bedside support and
positive feedback to the healthcare providers (Cruz, 2020).
The quantifiable outcomes, how to measure them, and the
potential tool to help in their measurements
According to the author, the successful implementation of
the intervention must be able to lead to the attainment of 10
percent or more in the reduction of the rate of pressure injury
cases. The author also indicates that the intervention must be
able to give about or more than 90 percent of the provider
compliance to the implementation of the preventive bundles.
The achievement of these expectation confirms the effectiveness
of the intervention program (Cruz, 2020 ).
The outcomes from the implementation of the preventive
bundles in the prevention of the pressure injuries are analyzed
or measured by assessing the changes. There is an expectation
that the implementation of the intervention will be improved
amongst healthcare providers. There is a need to be a
consistency in the process of implementing the bundle towards
the prevention of the pressure bundles (Cruz, 2020).
The valid measurement tool that can be used for the
quantification of the data to confirm the effectiveness of the
intervention is the compliance checklist tool. This tool is used
for the monitoring, auditing, and to offer continuous effective
feedback to the providers within the ICU units. The tool is
useful in providing information concerning adherence to the
implementation of the intervention (Cruz, 2020).
Whether the practice question would be answerable within 8 to
10 weeks
The effective implementation can't generate data that can
be relied on concerning the importance of the preventive
bundles within 8 to 10 weeks. This is a procedure that deals
with health, therefore, requires adequate time for preparation
and plan on the types of resources that will be required. It also
requires the training of the nurses and other healthcare
providers while at the same time allowing the team to ensure
13. that such proposed practices are implemented within the ICU
units (Cruz, 2020).

14. Hi Dr Kyzar and Class
1. When looking at the evidence, one notes that there is an
independent variable and that a spearman’s ranked correlation is
used in the analysis of the data. The spearman’s correlation can
be referred to as the nonparametric version of the Pearson
correlation. The correlation coefficient by Spearman’s measures
the direction and the strength of the association between two
variables which are ranked. For the use of this test, one requires
two variables which are either ratio, interval, or ordinal. The
spearman correlation is used when the assumptions of the
Pearson correlation have been violated. The spearman’s
correlation determines the direction and the strength of the
monotonic relationship between these two variables as opposed
to the strength and direction of the linear relationship (Schober
et al., 2018). The person correlation is the one which looks at
the linear relationship between the two variables. The
monotonic relationship refers to the relationship when either as
the value of one increases the other variable is increasing or as
the value of one of the variable is increasing, the other variable
is decreasing (Bakdash and Marusich, 2017). The spearman
correlation is used in measuring the direction and strength of
monotonic association between these two variables. The
monotonicity is considered to be less restrictive compared to
that of the linear relationship. When one normally picks the
measure of association, it is after looking at the pattern of the
data which is observed. When one looks at the scatterplot and it
shows a relationship which looks monotonic, then one would
use the spearman’s correlation (Akoglu, 2018). If there is a
liner relationship, then one uses a person’s correlation as it
shows the direction and strength of the linear relationship. The
correct level of correlation analysis which should have been
used in this case is Pearson’s correlation analysis. The data that
has been presented has a normal distribution and has therefore
met all assumptions of the Pearson’s correlation. There is
manipulation of the independent variable and the Pearson’s is
15. the better level.
2. Correlational analysis and association are sometimes used
interchangeably but they have slightly different meanings when
it comes to the technicality. Association refers to the presence
of any relationship between two variables but the correlation is
used to refer where there is existence of a linear relationship
between the variables. The terms are often used interchangeably
when it comes to various texts despite the differences. The
correlation analysis explores the association which is there
between two or more variables. The correlational analysis
makes an inference about the strength of the relationship
between the variables (Akoglu, 2018). There are several
differences which can be shown when it comes to association. A
scatter plot, for example, shows the association between two
variables. The scatter plot matrix indicates the pairwise scatter
plots for the various variables. When it comes to the majority of
books, correlated and associated all mean to the same thing. The
technical meaning which is there in correlation is that there is
strength of the association as measured by the correlation
coefficient. Correlation as it is used is mainly a technical term
while the association is not. The association simply means that
there is a relationship presence (Schober et al., 2018). The
association will mean that certain values of one variable tends
to co-occur with certain values of the other variable. There is no
dependent or independent variable when it comes to the
correlation. It’s a descriptive statistic which is bivariate. When
it comes to the technical side, one can note that there are
several measures of association but only some of them can be
referred to as correlations.
3. After the findings I have a different outlook on the decision
on whether to use the evidence to inform practice change. A
quasi-experimental research study involves the manipulation of
an independent variable so as to see how the dependent variable
will react. In this case the study sample size is large and the
data is normally distributed. I believe that this study makes an
error and should have instead used the Pearson’s correlation
16. coefficient to show the relationship. The Pearson’s correlation
coefficient fits the purpose and there is no need to use the
spearman’s ranked correlation.

Hi Dr Kyzar and classmates
17. What statistical procedure is needed to determine an
effective sample size to make a reasonable conclusion?
Main objective of having or developing an effective sample size
is trying to get both clinically and statistical significant result
as this also tries to maximize the use of the resources
efficiently. A determinant of sample size may include the size
in question, homogeneity of the sample the anticipated attrition,
and sometimes the risk of errors which have been considered as
being appropriate depending on the research question being
studied. In determining the sample size of the given sample, one
would have to accurately define the outcome which is the
objective being measured. Another determinant is the
homogeneity of the sample which shows the similarity of the
study units and the best way that this sample would be
representing the entire population (Burmeister and Aitken,
2017).
At some point, this also includes determining the different
parameters including the standard deviation. It’s important to
note the essence of level of significance as this helps in
identifying whether some effect may be existing. Power of a test
is also important as this includes the probability of not
detecting the effect in the event when there is an effect. In that
note, I may argue that the sample size determination procedure
may include pinpointing the outcome or a given hypothesis
which in this case it includes a null and alternative hypothesis,
then one selects the smallest effective size then one may specify
the significance of the test, estimate the different parameter
values that may be required in calculating the sample size and
specifying the intended power. In some cases, the sample size
may also be dependent on the design and the different
parameters that are being measured.
Reading through the study, you observe that the
researcher used a chi-square analysis to analyze nominal and
ordinal data. Is this the appropriate level of statistical analysis
to answer the research question? Explain your rationale.
18. Chi square analysis is the efficient statistical test that can be
incorporated in answering different research questions. From
the different study readings, we may denote that chi-square
analysis is one of the many statistical tests that may be useful in
describing the data as this statistical test does not provide the
casual relationship between these two variables. The chi-square
analysis may be incorporated in describing and outlining he
differences in the nominal and the ordinal variables. Also, it’s
worthwhile noting that the study description may also show that
the given data was not normally distributed. In that note, we
may conclude that chi-square may also be used in the data
which may not be depending on normal distribution in
interpreting the findings of the study. This makes it a non-
parametric test that can be used in checking association among
the different categorical variables (McHugh, 2018).
A chi square is essential, just as stated, its can be used in
analyzing nominal and categorical data as when the chi -square
helps in analyzing both the ordinal and the nominal data, the
different statistical tests are incorporated inn finding different
problems by approaching the problems of ordinal variables. For
instance the Mann-Whitney test is appropriate in evaluating the
differences that exists between different populations that are
using a given data from an independent measure design. On the
other hand, other tests also tries in evaluating the differences
between different populations by incorporating the different
samples for a given treatment condition.
Reading further, the researcher reports that the p-level
led her to conclude that the null hypothesis was rejected. In
your critique of the study, you determine that the null
hypothesis is true. Do these findings impact your decision about
whether to use this evidence to inform practice change? Why or
why not?
From the critique, the said findings would have an effect on the
decision as I would have to evaluate whether I can incorporate
this evidence in informing some practice change. The reason for
19. this is because the researcher committed type 1 error which is
likely to lead to inefficient change that may help in adopting
newer things or even may lead to erroneous results as there are
constant errors in the practice. In trying to avoid such and
related errors and sort of mistakes, in my case, I would try
controlling for type 1 error as this would help me in correcting
the errors that are likely to result to making wrong conclusions
and adopt the best change practice that would help in attaining
the stipulated results (Weiss and Weiss, 2017).
Statistical errors may legitimate data as this at some point may
lead to getting incorrect conclusion. In the study, it’s always
crucial to determine if the given results are correct because that
what matters most considering the objective of the study. In the
event when this results are incorrect, then it would not be
necessary to interpret the data any further. Which as stated the
fact that when I discover that the research made type 1 error, it
would be very hard for me to make any further conclusions on
the study. We have different statistics that helps us in getting
evidence which helps in determining if there is any relationship
that exists between some parameters. This statistics play an
important role in every aspect and it’s therefore important to
always take it into consideration as this may lead to different
series of events of implications irrespective of where a given
study was conducted.

Hi Dr Kyzar and Class
Whether the research design answer the research question
In Ash et al (2017), the researchers were aiming at
profiling the current family-based childhood obesity prevention
as an intervention through the employment of the systematic
review and the quantitative content evaluation techniques to
help in the identification of the present gaps in the awareness.
The method employed by the authors was a wide-ranging search
approach using the databases PubMed, PsycINFO, and CINAHL.
This was done to guide on the identification of the eligible
interventions that can help in the prevention of childhood
obesity accompanied with lively family component that was
developed between 2008 and 2015. The search results reveal
that the existence in the few numbers of interventions that
target the diverse population and the obesity risk habits beyond
the diet and the physical exercises inhibiting the process of
developing a all-inclusive, custom-made intervention (Ash et
al., 2017).
Whether the study sample participants were representatives
In Ash et al (2017), a total of 84 samples from the
underserved population and non-traditional families and as well
as the racial or ethnic composition were used. Even though this
is a smaller sample, it gives a clear picture of the role played by
family-based childhood obesity prevention interventions (Ash et
al., 2017).
The limitation of the study
The limitation showed by the researcher in Ash et al
(2017) is that the focus was on the articles that were published
over relatively narrow time-period. The researchers also failed
to evaluate the effectiveness or the quality of the intervention
thus limiting the potential of the review. The outcome of the
study can be influenced by the number as well as the choice of
the databases searched thus subjecting it to the publication bias
(Ash et al., 2017).
21. Whether this quantitative research study would be considered as
a support to the selected problem
The key themes identified by the researchers included
intervention characteristics, article characteristics, and the
sample characteristics. The rise in childhood obesity is a burden
to the nation. Therefore, efforts are being made to have an
effective intervention. The researchers showed the need of
having intervention effort, especially in the low- and middle-
income nations. Ash et al (2017) study is therefore revealing the
importance of family-based childhood obesity intervention that
can be used to tackle the issue of obesity among children (Ash
et al., 2017).

Hi Dr Kyzar and Class
Does the research design answer the research question?
The research questions of the article by Lidgate &
Lindenmeyer (2018) seek to look at the experiences of the
parents and the informal caregivers in receiving and providing
informal childcare for the British children of ages 0-5 years; the
perceptions about the relationship existing between the informal
childcare and the childhood obesity; and the proposed
22. intervention thoughts and the delivery approaches in preventing
obesity amongst children who are receiving informal care
(Lidgate & Lindenmeyer 2018).
Through adopting the in-depth focus groups of 14
participants, the researchers managed to offer answers to the
research questions. Based on the outcome of the study, the
informal carers were identified to be offering both practical and
the emotional support roles for the parents. There was a
perception that informal care is contributing to childhood
obesity through cross generation conflicts that prevents the
adoption of the healthy practices; the trade-off for the parents
between the receiving childcare and the maintenance of the
control; reduction of the energy capacity of the carers; and
increase in the snacking. The findings is supporting the idea of
and informing the development towards an information based
and the cheaper intervention that is being provided through the
present primary care platforms (Lidgate & Lindenmeyer 2018).
Tremblay et al. (2017) was focused on the Canadian 24-
Hour movement Guidelines for the early (0-4 years) that
involves the integration of the physical, sedentary, behaviors,
and the sleep. This study involved a systematic review that
examined the physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep, and
the combined behaviors that looks into the relationship within
among the movement behaviors and several health indicators
that were completed usign the Guideline Development Panel.
This study method helped in the generation of the evidence-
informed proposals that invlved the combinations of the light,
moderate, and the vigorous-intensity physical activity, the
sedentary behaviors, and the sleep among individuals from ages
1 to 4 years in the achievement of the healthy day. This
guideline is offering a public health guideline where there is
maximization of the health that is based on the balance of
movement (Tremblay et al., 2017).
Lloyd et al., 2018 focused at establishig whether the
school-based interventions for children of ages 9-10 years
would help in preventive excessive weight gain after 24 months.
Were the study sample participants representative
The sample size used by the Lidgate & Lindenmeyer
(2018) were few, therefore, it makes it hard for the outcome of
the study to be used to represent or generalized what is
happening in other cities. Even though researchers made an
effort to recruit both parents and the carers in the study, only 14
participants were involved in the study to ensure that it meets
the limited timeframe. Therefore, it is recommended that the
interpretation of the study outcome have to be done with some
limitations (Lidgate & Lindenmeyer 2018).
In the study by Tremblay et al. (2017), a total of 552
Canadian preschool-aged children from CHMS were used. The
sample used in the research work are adequate enough to reveal
the events related to the link of the time being used during
sleep, sedentary behavior, LPA, and the MVPA (Tremblay et
al., 2017).
In a study by Lloyd et al. (2018), the sample calculation
assumed a mean of 35 children age 9-10 years in every school
and this implies that a total of 1,120 samples were used. This is
a good number that can represents the problems at the 32
schools that were being targeted by the researchers.
Comparing the study limitations
The limitation of the study by Lidgate & Lindenmeyer
(2018) is linked to the few number of the study participants who
took part in the study. The researchers only managed to recruit
14 participants to ensure that the limited timeframe of the
24. project is met. This therefore makes it essential to make an
interpretation of the data with some limitations (Lidgate &
Lindenmeyer 2018).
The limitation of the research work by Tremblay et al.
(2017) is that there was an incomplete evidence-based for the
guidelines with low quality. The study is not representing the
best available evidence collected through the systematic review
and the original research. The research work is lacking adequate
research to form specific aspects of guideliens for example the
dose-response research studies.
In the article by Lloyd et al. (2018), the findings of the
study shows that the effectiveness of the school-based obesity
prevention programmed is inconclusive and contradictory. The
interventions used are highly heterogenous in the design and
most of the studies used for the research have some
methodological weaknesses for example the inadequate
statistical power, greater levels of attrition, differential uptake,
follow-up, and the short-lived follow-up.
Whether the selected qualitative study is supporting the practice
problem
The problem in this case is related to the obesity especially
on children. There is an increase concern about the rise in the
reported cases of obesity among children. Based on the findings
by Lidgate & Lindenmeyer (2018), there are four themes that
emerged. The most important two themes include the
importance of the informal care to families and the society and
the potential explanations for the link between childhood
obesity and the informal care. These themes are important since
they reveal the relationship between the childhood obesity and
the informal care as well as revealing the role played by the
families and the society when it comes to the implementation of
the informal care (Lidgate & Lindenmeyer 2018).
The study by Lidgate & Lindenmeyer (2018) is important
since it reveals that obesity in children is associated with the
informal childcare and the rising risk factors of the childhood
obesity for children of ages 0-5 years. The study reveal that
25. informal education to the carers is important in supporting
parents and helping in the prevention of obesity amongst
children. The intervention that targets the primary care is
helping in the reduction of the risk of childhood obesity
(Lidgate & Lindenmeyer 2018).
The study by Tremblay et al. (2017) is based on the proces
as well as the outcomes for the development of the Canamdian
24-hour movement guidelines for the early years (0-4 years)
which involves the integration of the physical activity, sleep,
and the sedentary behavior. The two importance themese
emerged from the stufy findings i.e. physical activity and health
indicators and the sedentary health behaviors and indicators.
The researchers focused on the development of the guidelines
that involves the integration of the movement behaviors which
followes a shift towards whole-day strategy to the
conceptualization of the movement behavior supported by the
Canadian 24-hour movement guidelines. It helps in ensuring
that the problem of childhood obesity is addressed through
promotion of active health lifestyles (Tremblay et al., 2017).
In the research work by Lloyd et al. (2018), two themes
were considered to be important i.e. energy in and decision
making and the responsibility. It is clear that school hosts many
children and can therefore be used as ideal place to deliver the
population-based interventions. Even though it might not
adequately intensed to affect both school and the family
environment hence wieght of the children, it needs to be
promoted since it helps in changing the health behaviors of the
children. This is important in addressing the issue of childhood
obesity sinnce it helps in promoting healthy behaviors among
children (Lloyd , et al., 2018).
