Merit Awards- Commended for successful efforts in (sales) bid proposals and exceptional performance – financial reward.
Process and Equipment Engineer
Draft initial EDM (Engineering Design Memo) defining plant process parameters and equipment specifications for centrifugal
and reciprocating compressors, cryogenic pumps, heat exchangers, pressure tanks, vaporizers, chillers, cooling towers, and
others. Validate process parameters with collected field data upon plant commissioning and completion.
Validate Process and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) per equipment procurement plan with Capital Project team.
Design and verify process conditions using modeling software HTFS and HYSYS - A set of inter-dependent programs for the
simulation and design of air plants, cryogenic air separation systems and other processes.
Lead cross functional team in thorough hazard identification sessions (HAZOP) with follow through process safety review
(PSR) meetings to implement plant-wide safety recommendations.
Commission equipment at plant start-up. Evaluate equipment efficiency with follow through action plan for improvements.
Prepare BID proposals with sales team.
LCS (Low Cost Sourcing). Explore and qualify new suppliers who are more competitive on equipment cost.
Sample projects highlights -
1. 2007 – 2009 Jinlong 700 ton/day low purity (PL7LP) oxygen plant – Process Engineer
Challenge - to provide low purity Oxygen for the copper furnace with strict mandate to limit flow fluctuation to +/- 200Nm3/hr.
Conceived several proposals for customer’s review. Final adopted solution was to manage flow fluctuation by adding a buffer
volume. Process parameters were fine-tuned using HYSYS dynamic simulation. Recognized for exceptional junior engineer’s
contribution with financial reward.
2. 2009 – 2010 Huizhou Air Separation Plant Expansion – Process Engineer
Challenge - to increase the capacity of an existing Air Separation plant by 10% with severe cost constraint.
Engineered two solution choices – (a) adding a compressor to increase cold box feed air flow, or (b) adding a buffer tank
downstream of Pre-Purifier (PP) to compensate for air shortage caused by the PP repressed operation. Solution (b) was
selected for better cost metrics. Performed thorough analysis using HYSYS’ simulation to devise the control logic, determine
the buffer tank volume and ascertain the allowable pressure fluctuation range. Plant was up and running with targeted capacity
increase within time and budget limits.
3. 2012 – 2014 Jinlong 700 ton/day (PL7LP) plant expansion – Sr. Equipment Engineer
Challenge – to optimally equip Jinlong Copper plant for a 50% capacity expansion.
Team leader for junior engineers. FULL responsibility for all major mechanical equipment. Supervised the translation of
process parameters into equipment specification defining scope and running conditions for the main air compressor, cooling
water systems, heat exchangers, etc. Led supplier technical bid evaluation with the Purchasing function to ensure accuracy
of the Procurement Plan. Updated the Process & Instrumentation Diagram, Plant specific Safety Protocols and followed
through with the construction team to assure proper and timely implementation. Commissioned major equipment at start-up.
Led debrief sessions and documented lessons learned. Project completed fully satisfying time and budget constraints.
