Verantwoord Beleggen Nederlandse Pensioenfondsen: 2017 Dutch GRESB EventGRESB

Sustainable banking throughout the chain: 2017 GRESB Debt Event GRESB
Event on Wednesday, 22 March hosted by ABN AMRO and with ING, DNB, Cromwell Property Group, Dynamis Taxatie Nederland

At the recent annual conference of Ceres, a forum of investors to discuss environmental issues, I moderated a nice panel on how institutional investors (can) integrate sustainability into their real estate decisions. The line-up was pretty amazing, with Laurie Weir of CalPERS, Jennifer Young of the Townsend Group, Mike Ibarra of Landon Butler & Co (responsible for the MEPT fund), and Darryl Neate of Ofxord Properties (OMERS). Here's the full slide deck, very interesting to see the different views:
Specialty pharmaceutical-generic companies that expanded pipelines through M&A and revenue through price increases are now facing scrutiny on the sustainability of the traditional model and looking toward more investment in R&D.

Designing Health through Housing
Where someone lives affects every aspect of their life, especially their health. Homes that are of lower quality, not well-designed and unaffordable have been linked to poor health, such as asthma, obesity, mental health challenges and more. For the most vulnerable populations who have the fewest choices in both their health care and their housing, there is an enormous opportunity to impact their health through their housing. This opportunity comes into focus in the building of subsidized affordable homes, which are more easily targeted for improvement due to their formal funding structure. Enterprise Community Partners, a national affordable housing intermediary, is tackling the long-term goal of improving health through housing. This presentation introduces the complex affordable housing system and the unique challenges it presents to adopting people-centered design, and then walks through two specific tools that present system-changing solutions: the Design Matters Toolkit and the Health Action Plan. The Design Matters Toolkit provides simple suggested behavior changes for affordable housing developers to incorporate more health outcomes into their properties, and Enterprise’s Health Action Plan framework guides developers through a structured process to partner with public health professionals to identify the highest impact resident health outcomes that can be influenced by the built environment, integrate relevant interventions in the design and development or rehabilitation of homes, and to measure the impact of those changes.

83. New Research
Peer-reviewed findings link
building design and operation to
health, well-being, and cognitive
function.
Commonly experienced carbon
dioxide levels affect cognitive
function and productivity.
Workplace design shapes
engagement, and physical activity.
84. Competitive Markets
Green building had a global impact. Green
buildings are now “business-as-usual” in
many leading markets.
This success means that long-standing
labels no longer provide as much
competitive differentiation.
Leading owners and occupants are looking
for new ways to create value.

85. New Technology
Emergence of low-cost, high quality
sensors and supporting information
technology.
New sensing technology can make the

New information technologies can
stream data from large networks of
distributed sensors.
New analytics can turn complex
87. The Aclima Environmental Intelligence Platform™
Flexible hardware with plug & play
sensors map thermal comfort, ventilation,
light, and indoor emissions.
Scalable platform understands
factors driving human health,
comfort, and productivity.
Unique tools deliver high
quality actionable data to
inform decision making.
Data comes together in the cloud —
providing scalability to handle complex
buildings and global portfolios.

Transparency
Vehicle-based sensors provide
unprecedented insights about
environmental factors driving health and
well-being in buildings and communities.
These insights will inform design, operations,
