HISTORY
1. In 1975 Shiv Nadar along with friends and colleagues namely Arjun Malhotra,
Ajai Chowdhry, DS Puri, Yogesh Vaidya, and Subhash Arora jointly founded
Microcomp Limited.
2. Shiv Nadar was the largest shareholder of the company.
3. Microlamp limited produced Digital Calculators and other office products such as
Televista.
4. It was 1976, when Shiv Nadar realised that India did not have many computers and
IBM was leaving the country due to political issues.
5. With the initial investment of Rs 18,700 he created HCL Technologies.
6. Impressed by Shiv Nadar’s vision of technological revolutions the Uttar Pradesh
government granted him an additional Rs 20 lakh in exchange of 26 per cent stake in
the company.

1. HCL stands for Hindustan Computers Limited
2. HCL was one of the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
3. Uttar Pradesh Government suggested to change the name Uttar Pradesh
Computers Limited (UPCL).
4. However, Shiv Nadar chose to name the company Hindustan Computers Limited
(HCL) as it had a nationwide resonance

FOUNDER AND CHAIRMAN
★ Shiv Nadar is a millionaire industrialist and social activist and founder of HCL
and Shiv Nadar Foundations.
★ He was born to to Sivasubramaniya Nadar and Vamasundari Devi in
Moolaipozhi Village in Thoothukudi District and 20 km away from Tiruchendur
★ His primary education was completed in Kumbakonam's Town Higher Secondary
School. He also attended Madurai's Elango Corporation Higher Secondary
School.
★ He then transferred to St. Joseph’s Boys Higher Secondary School in Trichy,
where he completed his high school education.

★ Shiv Nadar received a pre-university degree in the American College, Madurai.
★ He completed B.E degree in (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) from PSG
College of Technology, Coimbatore.
★ In 1967, Nadar started his work at the Walchand group's College of Engineering,
Pune (COEP). Later, he went on to work for the Delhi Cloth Mills' digital
products business after sometime Shiv nadar and his co workers left the job and
start their own business.
