  “COLOR
  OF
  HAT”
  Report.

Frank
  Pray

12/02/12.

My
  primary
  hats
  are
  creative
  (Green)
  and
  organized
  (Blue).

  Secondary
  hats
  tend
  to

be
  intuitive
  (red]
  and
  optimistic.
  [yellow].

  Last
  is
  cautious
  [black].

  I
  discovered
  this
  pattern
  in
  the
  brainstorming,
  and
  I
  note
  it
  also
  in
  my
  creative

writing.

  I
  definitely
  tend
  to
  be
  more
  organized
  and
  structure-‐minded
  than
  my

writing
  colleagues.

  I
  like
  to
  combine
  the
  creative
  and
  organized
  in
  a
  seamless
  effort.

The
  organizational
  effort
  frees
  up
  my
  ability
  to
  make
  creative
  things
  happen

WITHIN
  the
  structure.

  Also,
  it
  helps
  me
  to
  stay
  on
  track,
  and
  see
  that
  the
  production

part
  of
  the
  creative
  process
  gets
  finished
  on
  time.

In
  the
  brainstorming
  experience,
  as
  in
  my
  creative
  writing,
  I
  found
  that
  this
  dual

process
  can
  also
  cause
  problems.

  The
  “editor”
  can
  butt
  into
  the
  process
  too
  quickly

and
  too
  frequently,
  thereby
  subduing
  the
  creative
  contributor.

  I
  offset
  this
  tendency

by
  simply
  feeling
  but
  ignoring
  the
  urge
  to
  edit
  and
  assess,
  and
  just
  let
  all
  ideas
  come

on
  the
  map.

  Even
  a
  “bad”
  idea
  becomes
  “good”
  with
  some
  fine
  tuning,
  and
  the
  good

idea
  would
  never
  have
  been
  discovered
  if
  not
  ushered
  in
  by
  the
  so-‐called
  “bad”
  idea.

Hat Color Report: Creative Connections Team -- Frank Pray

  • 1.     Creative  Connections  Team  “COLOR  OF  HAT”  Report.     Frank  Pray   12/02/12.           My  primary  hats  are  creative  (Green)  and  organized  (Blue).    Secondary  hats  tend  to   be  intuitive  (red]  and  optimistic.  [yellow].    Last  is  cautious  [black].      I  discovered  this  pattern  in  the  brainstorming,  and  I  note  it  also  in  my  creative   writing.    I  definitely  tend  to  be  more  organized  and  structure-‐minded  than  my   writing  colleagues.    I  like  to  combine  the  creative  and  organized  in  a  seamless  effort.     The  organizational  effort  frees  up  my  ability  to  make  creative  things  happen   WITHIN  the  structure.    Also,  it  helps  me  to  stay  on  track,  and  see  that  the  production   part  of  the  creative  process  gets  finished  on  time.         In  the  brainstorming  experience,  as  in  my  creative  writing,  I  found  that  this  dual   process  can  also  cause  problems.    The  “editor”  can  butt  into  the  process  too  quickly   and  too  frequently,  thereby  subduing  the  creative  contributor.    I  offset  this  tendency   by  simply  feeling  but  ignoring  the  urge  to  edit  and  assess,  and  just  let  all  ideas  come   on  the  map.    Even  a  “bad”  idea  becomes  “good”  with  some  fine  tuning,  and  the  good   idea  would  never  have  been  discovered  if  not  ushered  in  by  the  so-‐called  “bad”  idea.
