Carrie By Stephen King Analyse
Lauren Ciha
Carrie Stephen King
Horror
Carrie is a story about a girl who has never fit in at school. All the other kids were always mean to
her. They ether never thought of her feelings, or didn t care. One day, in the girls locker room, the
teasing got out of hand. This time, a teacher caught them. This time, revenge was in order. At least,
that s what Chris Hargensen thought. The punishment for their crime, no prom. Chris wasn t going
down without a fight, but she sure went down. When a vicious prank is pulled on Carrie at the
dance, she snaps and unleashes he telegenic power on all the kids, teachers, parents, and the rest of
the town. The town will burn with Carrie s revenge, but will she burn with it?
Carrie White Carrie is the main character (you can tell by the title), but I would also say she is
partially the antagonist. Her mother raised her to be very religious and told her almost
everything she did was a sin. When Carrie wasn t like the other kids, they made fun of her. When
they would make fun of her, she got mad. And when she got mad, bad things happened. Carrie
learned she had telekinesis. The older she got the more interested she became in her power, so she
learned to control it. But a horribly treated girl and a dangerous power don t mix.
Sue Snell Susan Snell is the perfect girl every parent wants as their daughter. Good grades, nice to
everyone at school, and very pretty and popular. But when the teasing broke out in the locker room
she joined in.

John Keegan s The Face Of Battle
John Keegan s The Face of Battle and Sir Charles Oman s The Art of War in the Middle Ages
provide insight into how historians approach the subject of battle. When discussing warfare,
historians typically approach the subject from a procedural point of view, but it has also become
normal to focus on combatants experiences. By cross comparing Keegan and Oman s descriptions
of the Battleof Agincourt, it is apparent that both the procedural method and the method of focusing
on individuals have merit. However, Keegan and Oman s alternate depictions of the battle
demonstrate how combining both perspectives give a more complete understanding of the past.
Historical writings have evolved from procedural accounts of events to inquisitive reflections on
combatants. Focusing on weapons, strategies and generals perspectives the procedural approach
quickly provides in depth information, but often in a distorted way 1. It is important to remember
a commander s actions and the events of their battles are often exaggerated to support current
political goals . Alternately, a slightly more encompassing approach to warfare considers the
conflict s decisiveness in addition to the battle s statistics and facts 1. That is to say, what influence
did the battle have on future events and how were people s lives changed by it. Beyond these
procedural approaches, modern historians now use a more inquisitive method that combines
personal experiences and facts. This more inclusive method allows

Parenting In Romeo And Juliet And The Bible
Step 2 of Romeo and Juliet essay How parenting from Romeo and Juliet and the Bible are
different in many ways. the bible teaches the parents how to rise your children with a biblical
background, and with Romeo and Juliet they have a background of teachings from their parents
and friends that can slowly change overtime Romeo thinks about how he feels and not the about
the ones around him. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the
discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it. I think as teens we are supposed to follow and watch

Chasten your son while there is hope, And do not set on his destruction (Proverbs 19:18). Do not

23:13). When Romeo was banished his parents were shocked on what just happed and I would
be if my child kicked out and wasn t able to come back. Juliet s parents want what s best for her
but still want her to follow there commands. Honor your father and your mother, that your days

Essay on Speech Pathology
SPEECH PATHOLOGY Many people would like to make a difference, not only in their own
life, but in others lives as well. Deepak Chopra once said, Everyone has a purpose in life...a
unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service
to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal
of all goals. All of us, at one point in our lives, have to make the difficult decision of the goals we
want to work towards. We all have certain goals, standards, and expectations of ourselves. Not
everyone will figure out what they want to be right away, and some will know from the very
beginning. My plan for my life is helping others through Speech Language... Show more content on

Corruption In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Imagine growing up and committing your life to the prosperity of education. Each day you
strive to better yourself in order to provide for your family in the making. Picture pouring all of
your hard work and dedication out to give your child an even better education that you received.
In the end, you discover all of your funding and expenses were used by the school for other
political campaigns, diverting to other private interests rather than your child s needs. This is an
example of corruption in society, just as displayed in the novella Animal Farm, by George
Orwell. Condensing the story, main characters Napoleon and Squealer rise to power and set out
to create a paradise of equality and prosperity for all animals. What the community soon finds is
that the growing tyranny leaves the once bright future crumbling at the seams. Squealer and
Napoleon are both narcissists that manipulate Animal Farm according to their needs only. During
the introduction of Animal Farm, Orwell unfolds a character whose name was Mr. Jones. He was
the owner of the Manor Farm with a lack of dictatorship and leadership skills that left his farm in
shambles. The animals on the estate were kicked around and were given the bare minimum, shown
by Orwell when he lists The life on an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth. Jones s
reoccurring drinking problem and reckless behavior shows the animals something must be done to
get rid of him. A satisfactory showcasing of the events in this

Co workers also noticed that
Arthurs was becoming increasingly forgetful. He was often unable to remember stock numbers,
colour codes, product lines, packaging modes, and other information essential for serving clients
efficiently and completing orders accurately. These problems were subtle in 1987, but became quite
pronounced and embarrassing over the next three years.
In May 1989, Arthurs and Jackson had a conflict relating to the purchase of a new company car.
According to Jackson, Arthurs presented him with a quotation for a car, which, in Jackson s view,
included $2,500 in unnecessary options. Jackson informed
Arthurs of his concerns and instructed him to find a car worth $13,000 instead of
$16,000. Jackson then left town on business and when he returned was distressed to find that
Arthurs had made his proposed car purchase with almost all of the unnecessary options. Jackson
issued the cheque to pay for the car, but also included a note to Arthurs saying that he had lost
confidence in the sales representative. It was about this time that
Jackson contemplated firing Arthurs, but decided instead to be a nice guy and overlook the matter.
At the end of 1989, Jackson decided to reassign the North Vancouver independent accounts from
Arthurs to another Western Agencies salesperson because the existing accounts had shown minimal
growth and no new accounts were being added.

In A Grove Vs Rashomon
Akira Kurosawa s film, Rashomon, is based on Ryunosuke Aktagawa s story, In a Grove. The film
and the story both tells a tale of a samurai who was found murdered in the woods. Both the story
and film investigates different versions of the incident told by four different characters including
Tajomaru the bandit, the samurai s wife, the samurai, and the woodcutter. Each of these characters
tell four completely different viewpoints of what happened to the samurai who was found murdered
in the woods to the commissioner but each with a little more detail than the previous storyteller. All
but the woodcutter s version had something in common. In each story, the storytellers claim that he

Tajomaru considered himself to be a proud warrior. In his version of the story, he admits that he
robbed and tied the samurai up, and then vehemently seduced the samurai s wife all because he
wanted the samurai s beautiful wife. If it wasn t for the wife none of this would ve took place.
At first it comes off as a rape because of the struggle Tajomaru was having but the samurai s wife
eventually gave in due to Tajomaru s masculine appeal. The samurai s wife couldn t bear the
shame of given into Tajomaru sexually so she says that either the bandit or her husband must
die. So this led to her husband and the bandit engaging in a deadly sword fight. Tajomaru ended
up killing the samurai in the fight. While the two men were fighting the samurai s wife
disappeared away into the woods. Tajomaru confessed to the crime and stated his motives but
after reading and watching his story it still seemed as if something was missing. The bandit
made his crime to seem like more of a heroic and honorable act rather just killing the samurai for
a senseless reason by saying that the samurai died an honorable death . This way the samurai will
still retain his reputation as a proud, aggressive and masculine warrior so he won t be viewed as a

Her life was never easy. From the time she was born, Maya Angelou was subjected to racism,
rape, grief and dehumanization. She beared enough emotional stress in a time frame that most
people don t experience in a lifetime. Yet she prevailed. She forced herself to become stronger.
And in doing so, she produced writings, which in turn, helped others to become strong. Her
experiences and the lessons learned gave her confidence to be a teacher, a preacher, and an
inspiration to millions. Maya Angelouwas courageous. Based on Angelou s most prestigious
autobiography, I Know Why

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, prevails in moments where metaphors correspond perfectly to
the emotions of Maya Angelou s relationship with Annie Henderson, her grandmother, whom
Angelou referred to as Momma Henderson. It is distinctly exemplified when three white girls
perform a handstand pantyless in front of Momma Henderson revealing their power of white
sexuality in front of a superior woman. Momma just hymns a song showing her granddaughter how
to react to the ridicules of the
powhitetrash. Steven Butterfeld of American Writers views Momma s reaction as a victory in self
control(American Writers 3). Angelou exhibits a similar spirit when describing her visit with
Momma to a white dentist who reveals that he would rather put his hands in a dog s mouth than a
niggers(Contemporary Literary Criticism 12 12). The appalling parallel between the dog and the
nigger narrates the account of dehumanization noted by African American writers. The most
powerful emotional response in the first autobiography, I
Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, is Angelou s contrary speech after being raped by her mothers
lover. On page four of American Writers the author describes the speech in the language used by
Angelou describing the tragic episode: Then there was the pain. A breaking and entering when even

Apollandsian Vs Dionyysian
Friedrich Nietzsche believed that art fit into two categories: the Apollonian and the Dionysian, or
sometimes a combination of the two. The Apollonian consists of visual art and poetry, while the
Dionysian is music and dancing. But lyrical music, or poetry in music form, is a combination of
the two. Revenge of the Dadaists by The Agonist is this kind of song, as there is emphasis on
both the lyrics and the music. Within the lyrics is an indirect description of the wisdom of Silenus
and its reversal: where life is horrible and death is the end goal, but then art justifies life s problems
and eternal life is desired. The singer also sings in the first person, thus surrendering subjectivity
through the music. And the words imitate the sound... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But since lyrical music is a combination of both the Apollonian and the Dionysian, it is hard to
say which it supports. Even with the constant use of I throughout many songs, including
Revenge of the Dadaists, it s hard to say if this is the songwriter s voice, the singer s voice, or the
universal voice of humanity in general. Nietzsche says that In the first place, as Dionysian artist
he has identified himself with the Primal Unity, its pain and contradiction... Now, however, under
the Apollonian dream inspiration, this music reveals itself to him again as a symbolic dream
picture... The artist has already surrendered his subjectivity in the Dionysian process. The picture
which now shows him his identity with the heart of the world, is a dream scene, which embodies
the primordial contradiction and primordial pain, together with the primordial joy, of appearance
(511 512). In other words, despite the I used throughout the song, the fact that it is set to music
makes the I become part of the Dionysian, thus representing the whole world. So even while the
singer sings about personal issues, these problems become dreamlike and universal so anyone can
connect to them. Thus everyone knows and feels the singer s pain through contradiction. So in
Revenge of the Dadaists, the lyrics You leave footsteps of fire / So no one can

Denial in The Iceman Cometh Essay
Denial in The Iceman Cometh Denial is the refusal to admit the truth. It is the refusal to accept
or acknowledge the reality or validity of a thing or idea. Many characters in The Iceman Cometh
suffer from denial and false hope. O Neill places these characters in the appropriate setting in
which they are able to fantasize about their dreams. Amidst the drunken and misguided characters,
O Neill presents a few that the reader builds hope and sympathy for. Each character uses a pipe
dream in order to be able to become blind to their downfalls and to reality. In the bar setting,
characters in Eugene O Neills The Iceman Comethportray the theme of denial by embracing pipe

It is a false belief or a false hope that the character holds on to. This is in order to blind them of
reality. By embracing a pipe dream, the characters feel they do not have to face the bitter reality
that confronts them. The pipe dreams make life tolerable for the time being (55). Rocky, the
bartender at Hope s bar, denies the fact that he is a pimp. Because he is a bartender, he believes
he cannot be a pimp. He blatantly disregards the fact that he takes money from two prostitutes
and protects them as well. He says to one of the prostitutes, What would you do if I wasn t
around? Give it all to some pimp (O Neill 603). The sad fact that O Neill presents is that Rocky
truly believes that he is not a pimp. He has fooled nobody but himself, and doesn t even realize
it. He also holds a pipe dream of being able to open a bar of his own someday. Margie and Pearl,
the two prostitutes, have pipe dreams of one day getting married. They are also living in a state
of denial. Margie says, Anyway, we wouldn t keep no pimp, like we was reg lar old whores. We
ain t dat bad (603). These characters live their life through blind eyes (Orr 90). They refuse to see
who and what they really are (91). These three characters deny who they are and refuse to accept it.

Current Financial Reporting Standards On The Workplace Essay
Current Financial Reporting Issues It is incontestable that international financial reporting standards
(IFRS) are in vogue and global conformity theoretically on the doorstep as about 100 countries
implement standard financial regulations. The idea that uniform reporting standards have the same
effect on financial reporting undervalues the contested ability to be flexible in financial reporting
and introduces another level of debate on the issue of flexibility and uniformity. Apart from the fact
that the merits of flexibility are downplayed to increase cross sectional and inter temporal
comparison, prescribed reporting standards compliance is itself not enough basis to claim that
financial reporting. The IFRS comprises of principle based standards that have presents financial
report manager with the opportunity to increase flexibility on their part and possible manipulation
(Benston, 2006). Consequently, the fact brings another issue into question, for instance, the
reliability and transparency of information produced under professional discretion and judgment of
managers. This paper seeks to indicate that there are too many current financial reporting issues that
are not yet conclusively included in the crusade for the adoption of uniform financial reporting
standards on the notion that uniform standards improve the quality of financial reporting regarding
comparability. Accounting regulation has an apparent importance in accounting for the good of the

Persuasive Essay On Self Driven Cars
Over 37,000 people die in road crashes each year, an additional 23.5 million are injured or
disabled, nearly 8,000 people are killed in crashes involving drivers ages 16 20 ( Road Crash
Statistics ). According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, crashes cost the
U.S. $230.6 billion per year, or an average of $820 per person ( Road Crash Statistics ). So, now
imagine a world in where you feel safe to drive any time of the day. Imagine getting into a car
and not worrying about driving alongside drunk drivers, drivers who are exhausted, or
distracted drivers who are on their phones. Our technology has advanced significantly and it
only continues advancing. Waymo, a small project that was launched by Google started
exploring the idea of a self driven car. Self driven cars can be beneficial to our society because
they will lower traffic while improving safety, lower the death toll in car accidents, and will be
environmental friendly. If we start using self driving cars our society will become less worried
about risking their lives and people would not be so afraid to get to their destination. First and
foremost, with self driven cars having quicker reflexes than humans they will be less likely to
make the silly mistakes most humans make which will improve traffic congestion and safety.
Chris Urmson, the director of the self driving car project at Google in a blog post says, We have
improved our software so it can detect hundreds of distinct objects simultaneously pedestrians,
buses, a stop sign held up by a crossing guard, or a cyclist making gestures that indicate a
possible turn (Hustad). With driverless cars being this smart, it is okay to get distracted or to
make that important business call. These self driving cars are aware like no other and can
detect hundreds of objects. It is a little harsh to say, but driverless cars might just pay more
attention to the road than a human can because it never gets tired nor distracted. Karis Hustad
also mentions, In a video, the Google driverless car can sense a biker who veers in and out of its
lane, navigate around road construction, and pause for errant pedestrians. The new technology can
also read stop signs and waits for all cars to cross

Reflection Of My Paintings
My paintings are a reflection of my personal experiences and my imagination. My aim to paint is
not just to master the technique but to feel and connect with the subject.
By balancing the art of memory and personal experience, I create works that narrate a story. I
believe my works are just like novels. Each painting is a different chapter from my life. These
visual compositions may not be the exact representation of the particular event but they do
symbolize the incident. I create with daily, recognizable elements, a situation in which the viewer
is also a part of the work and he is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has
to reconsider his biased position.

The Pardoner s Tale In The Fourteenth Century
Geoffrey Chaucer probably wrote The Canterbury Tales in the later part of the fourteenth century.
Influenced by Boccaccio s Decameron, a collection of tales told by Italian nobility, Chaucer
introduces thirty unique characters in the book, writing himself as one of the thirty and the ultimate
narrator. These thirty men and women from middle class families convene in Southwark before
embarking on a journey to Canterbury, where they will pay respect to St. Thomas Beckett.

The Effects Of Tax Reform
When gauging the effects of various corporate tax rates, we used two evaluative factors to measure
effectiveness of our proposed policy alternatives. The most important evaluation mechanism for
gauging the effectiveness of tax reform is the change in revenue attributed to the change in policy.
Changes in state gross domestic product are also important to consider when proposing changes to
corporate taxes, because a correlation can be made between taxrates and corporate economic output.
Because Iowa has not reformed its corporate taxrate since 1981, we opted to analyze the effects of
these criteria on other states that have changes their corporate tax rates since 2000. We decided
against analyzing the effects of changes in other Iowa... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, Kansas lowered its top tax on corporate income by a mere 0.3% in 2008, bringing the
rate to 7.05%. This change decreased the states revenue collections from corporate taxes by more
than $150 million (2007, 2009, 2010, 2012)1. The results in Kansas represent that when the
corporate rate decreases, revenue collections decrease as well.
The results described above are not by any means consistent. Some states have increased their tax
rates, only to see large declines in corporate tax revenue. By analyzing similar changes in tax rates
and revenue collections in other states, a pattern of correlation begins to emerge, which can be seen
in Figure 4 below.
As Figure 4 illustrates, the correlation between tax rates and revenue generations are assumed to
be a direct correlation; that is, as the tax rate increases, revenue collections increase, and vice
versa. However, this pattern is only true for tax rates that lie on both the high and low ends of the
tax scale. By finding the mean of the highest tax rate of states with recent reforms (Illinois @ 9.5%
and Connecticut @ 9.00%), we calculated ВЅ of a standard deviation and assume this to be the
relevant range of tax rates where there is no significant correlation with revenue collections. In this
range, increasing or decreasing the corporate tax rate will not automatically lead to similar results in
revenue collections.
Keeping in mind this distribution of tax rates and revenue collections, we

Sunlight And Darkness
John Steinbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men, conveys sunlight and darkness in the book by
symbolizing sunlight as happiness and darkness as a bad thing. John Steinbeck uses these symbols
throughout the book to narrate certain segments in the book. He also uses the symbols to aid the
reader to interpret the story more. The author chose to uses those images to show that things can be
good at first but they can also end up being very bad at the end. Symbols help readers better
understand the story more which is why the author John Steinbeckstarts off the book Of Mice and
Men with a happier setting. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow
sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool (Steinbeck 1). He uses this setting to
portray happiness as it is a very calm and peaceful setting. The day was going fast now. Only the
tops of the of the Gabilan Mountains flamed with the light of the sun that had gone from the
valley (Steinbeck 4). The author explains that now that George and Lennie have arrived to the
Salinas River it has gotten darker and gloomy. The setting is changing it is no longer a bright and
happy place as the sun is setting it is getting darker. A few other symbols that portray darkness and
sunlight are George and Lennie. George is the sunlight because he is like a father figure to Lennie,
George looks out for him, and George helps him survive out in the world. And Lennie is the

Examples Of Femininity In The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid: Hegemonic Femininity The transition from a girl to a woman is created by
the socially implemented ideals of femininity depicted in commercials, books, and mainly films.
One of the famous animated princess Disney films, The Little Mermaid can be easily added to yet
another Disney film portraying hegemonic femininity. In the 1989 film The Little Mermaid(Ron
Clements, John Musker), a beautiful, young mermaid is willing to make a risky deal with an evil
sea witch because she yearns to walk on land and fall in love with a prince, while secretly the sea
witch wishes for the mermaid to lose the deal. Ultimately, mermaid ends up achieving her dream of

Wandering free, wish I could be part of your world, is what Ariel sings as she daydreams of
prince Eric. She strongly believes she needs him to be happy and that without him she is
incapable of doing so. That is why Ariel takes Ursula s deal, changes her body and sacrifices her
voice while leaving her family behind. This validates the hegemonic code of femininity because
women are seen as individuals who cannot take care of themselves and are only complete with a
man.
After the climax, when the deal has been made with Ursula, Ariel finds herself in a difficult
situation. With only having three days to get a kiss of true love from prince Eric, she
undoubtedly needs Eric s kiss to save her. Getting close to the end of the film, there is a scene

Why Is America Considered A Masterpiece
When I think of America, I imagine of a masterpiece. When America was first discovered by
Christopher Columbus, it was a blank canvas with native American details on the rim. These details
represent how the Native Americans have affected America. Since then, every triumph, failure, rise,
and fall that America has had, another part was added. And though this painting was once a blank
canvas, it is now a wonderful painting with landmarks from near and wide, full of every color, and
includes everything important to modern America.
Opportunity. The blank canvas itself represents all of the possibilities that America had. And it gave
the settlers the opportunity to add whatever they wanted to the canvas.
Education is an opportunity that most

American Broadcasting System
1. What are the major characteristics of the American broadcasting system and what mode of
political economy do these characteristics reflect? What events and decisions led to the
establishment of this system? And how did the radio networks (NBC, CBS, and ABC) maintain
control of the system following the rise of television? Refer to lectures, handouts, and the essay by
Michelle Hilmes.
One of the characteristics of the American broadcast system was one way transmission. This type
of transmission is from one point to a mass audience. The second characteristic is private ownership
which is that broadcasting entities would be privately owned enterprises. One example of this is
the formation of the radio corporation of America. World war I had... Show more content on

This lead to the passing of the 1912 radio act which required broadcasters to have a license.
Where it was easy enough to get a license and without any restrictions on who was able to have a
license, this led to the separation of classes in the licenses where a class B license would allow
for larger stations to operate on less congested frequencies and reach more listeners. Class A
license holders were on a more congested frequency where there was much overlap between
broadcasters. After in fighting between the growing partners of RCA and the acquisition of AT
T s WEAF, this led to the formation of NBC. Under the NBC umbrella, there was a monopoly
growing and fearing that NBC had too much power the Federal Radio Commission was formed.
The Federal Radio Commission would go on to restructure the distribution of radio licenses and
categorize radio stations based on signal strength and programming content. (Hilmes pg 14, 15)
Following the rise of television, radio networks found sustainability in following the example of
BBC in Britain and becoming mediums of public service. It would be during world war II that
radio networks would take on this function. (Hilmes pg 22)

The Great Reset By Richard Florida
The Great Reset by Richard Florida discusses the many issues that have occurred due to various
recessions and depressions. The book provides an outlook and realistic perspective on how he
perceives the current crisis will play out. Florida states that the new normal will not be as
focused on cars, houses, and suburbs. We will not be as centered on the ownership society
which George W. Bush discussed. This is an upsetting realization. Owning a house is not what it
used to be. Growing up, owning a house was a big dream of mine. With a new economy like we
are in, owning a house tends to be more of a hindrance. I can understand where his point of view
is coming from. In today s society you have to be able to have a flexibility, which sometimes
involves moving to a new place. Renting houses or apartments is going to become the greater
choice. Many of the resets in the past have recovered and actually brought about some good
aspects. For instance, the first reset gave us a technological revolution where energy systems were
created and many crucial inventions were made. This reset also helped in terms of transportation.
Transit systems became an important mode of transportation and they have become such an
important mode of transportation in big cities. Through these times of reset, there has been a large
increase in immigration. Although many people viewed this as another way for jobs to be taken
away, it has had beneficial aspects. Many cities grew larger and more

Raphael s Letter To Pope Leo X
Like many popes before him, Pope Leo X aspired to renovate Rome to reflect the power of
Christianity. In their quest to establish Rome as an important religious center, the popes goal was
to destroy most ancient ruins and erase the city s pagan history. In the efforts to prevent a
complete destruction of Rome s past, Raphael expresses his concerns and beliefs in the Report to
Pope Leo X. In his letter, Raphael tries to convince the Pope to put a stop to the destruction of the
city by glorifying the work and architecture of the ancients. Raphael tries to reason with the Pope by
reminding him about the glory of the town in the ancient times, which was due to the significant
efforts and talents of its people. He also laments about the destruction

Child Abuse And Child Discipline
One of the most controversial topics is the difference between child abuse and child discipline.
Abuse is any action that intentionally harms or injures another person. Discipline is punishment
that is intended to correct or train. Some parents do not see the harm in their form of discipline, but
others may view it as abuse. It may not be the parent s intention to harm their child but it is
something that occurs. In 2012, state agencies found an estimate 686,000 of child maltreatment.
.*(*Kids Count) Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuseare made in the United States
involving more than 6 million children (a report can include multiple children).
Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through an action or failing to act causes injury,
death, or emotional harm to the child. A parent is responsible for disciplining their child, but some
may have a tendency of using extreme measures. In my opinion, I think in certain cases mild
physical punishment is acceptable. However, severe physical punishment should be avoided at all
times, because this is not healthy for the child.
Some parents do not know how to handle a child that is misbehaving, which is the reason abusive
discipline occurs. There are instances when a child s misbehavior can cause abuse to the parent.
The parent will reach a level of anger that will provoke them to automatically slap or hit the child.
In which case the parent believes physical force is an acceptable form of punishment.

Life Span Development and Personality of Michael Jackson
Introduction
Michael Jackson was born August 29, 1958. Born the eighth of 10 children, Michael grew up in a
working class family in a small three bedroom home in Gary, Indiana. As a child, Michael struggled
with his fame. He never lived a normal childhood and throughout his adulthood he tried to recapture
his lost youth. Although labeled as an outstanding entertainer and humanitarian in the world,
Michael became dependent on pain medications. Scandals of child molestation and Michael s
obsession with his appearance further fueled his addiction. Overdosing ... Show more content on

His voice deepened and he struggled with acne. He became obsessed with his appearance and
through the years changed his appearance through plastic surgeries. Michael ultimately throughout
his life was going through an identity crisis. In Erik Erikson s stages of psychosocial development,
the emergence of an identity crisis occurs during the teenage years in which people struggle
between feelings of identity versus role confusion (Cherry, 2009). Michael struggled to make a
commitment to his identity. His identity status could best described as moratorium, the status of a
person who is actively involved in exploring different identities, but has not made a commitment
(Cherry, 2009).
Theoretical Approach Michael Jackson behavior and achievements is best described by the
humanistic theory of personality, Rogers s Person Centered Approach. Kowalski amp; Weston
(2009),
described Carl Rogers s theory of personality, which focuses on understanding
the individual s phenomenal world. Rogers similarly believed that human beings are
basically good but that their personalities become distorted by interpersonal

Irony In Alexander Pope s Epistle
IRONY IN POPE S EPISTLES
Irony as a literary tool was utilized to its full potential by one of the most celebrated poet and
satirist of the eighteenth century, Alexander Pope. He choosed irony as the prime instrument for
his satiric hit as he found irony to be a more delighting and amusing medium. Pope s ironic
ability in writing was well reflected in his verse satires, and his famous epistles. In his works, by
means of his humor and wit, Pope satirized the follies and foibles in men and in the aristocratic
society of his time quite vividly. As an eighteenth century writer, he realized that it was his
responsibility to impart to the society of his time, his well thought ideals, manners, beliefs ... Show

The very beginning lines of the epistle are ironic as it opens on a note of familiarity reflected by
the you accompanied by a witty remark. Nothing so true as what you once let fall, Most women
have no Characters at all. The ironic tone of the speaker is again reflected in his attitude of being
in awe, as he seems astounded by the conduct of certain fictitious women. This ironic attitude gets
reflected in the statement Say, what can cause such impotence of mind? A spark too fickle, or a
Spouse too kind.
Moreover, as following the Horation tradition, Pope presents a series of portraits of women
beginning with the vicious ones to the noble ones. Irony is intended when grandeur of language
and expression is employed to depict the so called vicious portraits as in Come then, the colors
and the ground prepare! Dip in the Rainbow; trick her off in Air, Chuse a firm Cloud, before it fall,
and in it Catch, ere her change, the Cynthia of this

What Is Metaphors Used In The Gothic Novel
These dark overtones and internal tensions laid the foundation perfectly for the development of the
gothic novel. The fear of the unknown are represented in Radcliffe s gothic novel as the mystery
surrounding the fates of other women. Once Emily has found out the truth about the other women,
then she is freed of her fears and is able to cope with them. In a very real way she has made the
transition to confidence in herself and her own future. This particular brand of gothic novel seems
to be an encouragement to women and reassures them. Metaphors and Simile have been a part of
the human experience since man began comparing and contrasting things to one another. Used by
poets and novelists alike to express comparisons, these elements are extremely useful to the writer.
Radcliffe manages to use metaphors to continue and round out the overall tone of the novel. This,
too, is evident in the Vol. 2, ch. 5 example. As the landscape changes, she is evoking an implied
metaphor stating that experience is constantly changing and that sometimes, if one is lucky, one
will suddenly hit upon an inner truthor two, which comes as a result of the constant changing.
Interestingly enough, Radcliffe also employs very Romantic Era techniques of utilizing nature to
illustrate some of these truths, both inner and outer. In the Vol. 2, ch. 5 piece, the landscape is
described in detail. If Classical styles were seen as being typically calm, harmonious, balanced,
structured, and rational, then

Security And Beyond Information Technology

Information technology has become a very dominant and ever growing industry in today s market.
People have taken notice of it, and thus have invested quite heavily into it. Everyone is going online
nowadays, more than ever before, but this is not just limited to people. Financial/Educational
institutions, and various companies are all online in one form or another; being interconnected to
the internet of everything. A prominent aspect of information technology is security, and it has been
attracting a lot of attention as of late. IT Security has garnered many companies and individuals to
invest so much into it; that it has essentially created an industry of its own. However, can all of this
investment in IT Security really be justified? Let it be known that the internet is not secure. It was
originally created by the US military for communication purposes, and since then has grown into
network upon networks of computers and computer systems, for everyone to use. With the
exponential growth that the internet has taken on, it s very hard to make it as secure as one would
like. However, there are measures and protocols that are put in place to do just that, secure the
internet. The internet is a combination of equipment, protocols and people, that when put together
make everything just...work. It is a multi layered system that depends on not just the technology
itself, but those people who manage/operate it, and of course the investment it requires for

Plagiarism is the wrongful appropriation and stealing and publication of another author s language,

The idea remains problematic with unclear definitions and unclear rules.[3][4][5] The modern
concept of plagiarismas immoral and originality as an ideal emerged in Europe only in the 18th
century, particularly with the Romantic movement.
Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to
sanctions like penalties, suspension, and even expulsion. Recently, cases of extreme plagiarism
have been identified in academia.[6]
Plagiarism is not a crime per se but in academia and industry, it is a serious ethical offense,[7][8]

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Martin Luther King
Today, in this corner of the Internet dedicated to the Oratory and the techniques of public
speaking, I can not fail to remember that fifty years ago, one of the most famous speeches of the
20th century was celebrated yesterday: the one he delivered fifty years ago yesterday, Marin
Luther King, in Washington, at the foot of the Lincon Memorial, before more than two hundred
thousand black rights defenders in the USA, and remembered by the famous phrase I have a
dream dream). Martin Luther King uses key elements of paraverbal communication for the
execution of a good speech: a powerful voice, a perfect vocalization and articulation, for Which
is well understood everything he says, and a calm, steady, determined rhythm, marking well the
pauses to emphasize the important phrases. He also uses in his speech a few rhetorical devices,
such as the metaphor: ... they had burned in the flames of withered injustice ; Long night of
captivity ; The Negro Lives on a Lonely Island of Poverty, The Quick Sands of Racial Injustice,
and others such as the promissory note of liberty and happiness for all promised by the founders
of the nation and the Which the nation gave to the nation at that time, a rhetorical device that
takes one of the greatest applause of the speech; Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, and
other metaphors that dot the whole discourse giving it a rhetorical literary touch. Another
rhetorical figure is the anaphora: One hundred years later ... , which repeats as the beginning of
several sentences; Now is the time ... , We can not be satisfied until ... , and the famous I have a
dream , which repeats, from the minute 12 20 , Also as an introduction of several substantial
ideas of the discourse. In this phase it is in which he is more excited, which is detected not only
by the special tone and force that gives his words, but by the slight movements of tension in the
Corners of his lips, indicating that he was really excited inside to express those ideas that were
born from the deepest and that mean the peak of the speech and that are the ones that have passed
more to the story. In addition, it is the phrases that do not read, but it says by heart, while still

The Colombian Culture
The Colombian culture is formed from the inheritance of the indigenous peoples present in the
territory since ancient times, the Spanish traditions adopted during the colonial period and the
African Customs incorporated by the slaves that led the conquistadors. This mixture of cultures
constitutes a society with traits common to the rest of Latin American countries but, at the same
time, very different also. Indeed, even within Colombias own territory there are many differences
between regions and others. Geographic diversity can be found from tropical beaches to mountains
of more than 5,000 meters in height with perpetual snows and the natural isolation of some areas
has led to this diversity. Some of the most important cultural groups according to their location are
the so called cops, located in the Altiplano Cundiboyacense; the countries, settled in Antioquia; The
foresters, Settlers of the eastern plains; the Vallunos, settled in the area of Valle del Cauca; the
coastal, inhabitants of the Caribbean coast, and the Santander, residents of the departments of
Santander and Norte de Santander. All these groups are characterized by showing great cultural
differences among themselves, which makes Colombia a fascinating country to know and enter
into the day to day of its inhabitants. Given these circumstances in the country there is a rich
variety of fauna and flora, since the quantities of species find their habitat in different regions of the

Apollonian Dionysian Dialectic In Suddenly Last Summer
In the setting of Suddenly Last Summer the Apollonian Dionysian dialectic is evident in the
tension between artifice and nature. This is particularly seen in the description of Sebastian s
garden where the setting is nearly a character in itself. Author Tessa Gratton believes, you give
your setting a life by making its heart beat and it is how the characters react to it that brings it to
life. This is something Tennessee Williamsdoes particular well in Suddenly Last Summer:
The interior is blended with a fantastic garden which is more like a tropical jungle, or forest, in a
prehistoric age of giant fern forests when living creatures had flippers turning to limbs and scales to
skin....the colors of this jungle garden are violent, especially since it is steaming with heat after rain.
Sebastian s garden establishes the familiar gothic dialectic s of overrefinement and wildness,
fastidious artifice and dangerous nature that are common in this genre. Under its neat well groomed
exterior the garden contains the Dionysian image of sacrifice in the feeding of the fruit flies to the
Venus flytrapplant. This is clearly no idyllic tropical garden but a blood thirsty jungle. Catharine

but the cancer was eating her brain which would have caused her to suffer in hospice care for
months while her family watched her deteriorate slowly. Even with palliative medication, she
could develop morphine resistant pain and lose her verbal, cognitive, and motor skills at any
time. For her, that seemed like a nightmare to put her family through. She wanted to live the rest
of the life she had left to the fullest, surrounding herself with family and friends, doing things she
had always dreamt of doing and saying goodbye to her loved ones in her own time. Much like Dr.
Rimmel, Brittany s quality of life was critical to her happiness. Because the state of California has
not authorized death with dignity. Brittany and her family had to move from their home to
Portland, Oregon. Oregon was one of five states where death with dignity is legal.
Physician assisted death (PAD), is death made possible by a physician providing a patient with the
means to end their life. There are compelling conclusions that argue for and against PAD, but when
they are weighed against each other the arguments to legalize PAD by far outweigh the arguments
against legalizing PAD. PAD should be legalized.

of the outside. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identity Based Encryption is a public key encryption scheme where any string can be a users
email address or name. The advantage of Identity Based Encryption is no certificate is needed to
bind names to public keys. This feature may help to launch a public key infrastructure since
receiver does not have to obtain public key and certificate before receiving encrypted
communication. The sender can use receivers Id as its public key and does not need to obtain and
verify certificate on the recipient s public key.
5. Advantages of ECC over RSA
A. Security
The main advantage ECC has over RSA is that the essential operation in ECC is point addition
and it is computationally very costly. To maintain the same security degree the bits number will
increase in RSA generated key pair. We can see from below figure that RSA should use 3072 bit
while 256 bit for ECC. Hence ECC is more secure than RSA.
B. Space Requirements
Because increasing computation is needed for higher bit encryption more transistors are needed
onboard the smart card to achieve operation. This causes growth in the area of employed
processors. By ECC transistor number can be cut back on since numbers required are much
smaller than RSA with similar level of security. Bandwidth requirements are same for RSA and
ECC when message is long but when message is short ECC is

In addition, most of the participants mentioned the creditability and time efficiency of social media
reports of hurricane assessments. In other words, many households are still questioning the
importance of evacuation and ran out of time when trying to evacuate with extended family
members. Besides, what needs to be mentioned is that some participants blamed negative influences
of racial inequality when making their decisions before the hurricane. At the end of research report,
poverty and racial inequalities are concluded to be two major explanations why African Americans
were unwilling to evacuate in a life threatening scenario. Recommendations to governments at all
levels are to enhance the importance of every evacuation order in a clear and timely manner and to
neutralize cultural differences or racial perceptions as a life long mission in order to minimize
casualties underlined. Method and Sample Qualitative method is using open ended questioning,
non statistical research techniques, or value based observations. In this research, three main
methodologies are adopted as focus group, distributing questionnaires and conducting personal
interviews simultaneously. Methods are all appropriate and contributed to a comprehensive
research. The reason is that aim of this research is to acquire an in depth understanding of

Informative Essay On Ballet Dance
You are sitting down in a dressing room, pulling out your leotard and tights out of your ballet
bag. You slip on your tights, and they fit snugly around your legs. You step into your leotard, and
feel the feeling of being a ballerina. Next, you pull a pair of satin pointe shoes from your bag.
Yesterday you had sewn on the laces. You slip the shoes on and cross the laces and tie them. You
stand up and walk into the studio.Your pointe shoesclip and clop against the tile hall. You slowly
take a place at the barre as the music begins.
It is clear that you have to go through a lot to be a ballet dancer. Ballet is a sport that takes grace,
but also strength. You have to be able to hold 5 positions and do many moves from them. You also
have to wear a certain style, and take part in many performances. These things will help you on
your journey to be a great dancer.
Positions and Moves All moves in ballet circulate around 5 main positions. There is first, second,
third, fourth, and fifth position. First position is where you put your heels together in parallel
which is when you stand in a straight line with your knees together, and open your feet to turn out.
Turning out is opening your hips to face the front. Sometimes at first your turnout is not perfect. In
fact, no one s turnout, not even the most famous ballerina is perfect! Another, Second position is
where you start in first, and then you open your legs, still turned out. Also, Third is where you
cross your legs and the

Romanticism As A Source Of Spirituality
Classification
Romanticism is a time period in history based on a cultural revolution. It is defined differently
based on geographical location, however it overall incorporates the same common principles: (1)
imagination, (2) individuality, (3) nature as a source of spirituality, (4) looking to the past for
wisdom, and (5) seeing the common man as a hero. These common principles are what inspired
writers and artists of the time to fabricate ideas. This is how the period got named romanticism for
the term romantic, [was] long synonymous with false, fictitious and unnatural (Courthion, 1961, p.
7). Defining the movement is what overtime pulled the art community away from the previous
baroque era. By the late 1700s romance thus had come to refer broadly to any work that could be
distinguished from works principally realistic in form and subject matter (Davey, 2006). Against the
common misconception, the Romantic Movement was not considered to be strongly influenced by
love. Instead the historically been associated with narratives of adventure, romance, and myth as
opposed to realistic stories or portrayals of history, politics, or everyday life (Romanticism, 2014).
The Beginning Historians associate the Romantic Movement as coming out of Europe as [it was a]
reaction to Napoleonic era conservatism and the political norms and the rationalization of nature
associated with Enlightenment (Romanticism, 2014). The focus on romantic literature commenced

What Is Sir Gawain Courageous
In most cases, people see that being courageous means feeling fear yet choosing to act as
displayed in the poem Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, the article Emmett Till by Jessica
McBirney, and the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Nevertheless, other individuals
may debate that being courageous is limited to standing up for what is right, even if they have to
stand alone, as shown in the novel To Kill a Mockingbirdby Harper Lee and poem Sir Gawain and
the Green Knight. For instance, the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight showed courageous
very thoroughly when Sir Gawain was afraid of playing a gory game but yet chose to act. Sir
Gawain stated, I beseech before all here. That this melee may be mine...Would you grant me the

  • 2. Carrie By Stephen King Analyse Lauren Ciha Carrie Stephen King Horror Carrie is a story about a girl who has never fit in at school. All the other kids were always mean to her. They ether never thought of her feelings, or didn t care. One day, in the girls locker room, the teasing got out of hand. This time, a teacher caught them. This time, revenge was in order. At least, that s what Chris Hargensen thought. The punishment for their crime, no prom. Chris wasn t going down without a fight, but she sure went down. When a vicious prank is pulled on Carrie at the dance, she snaps and unleashes he telegenic power on all the kids, teachers, parents, and the rest of the town. The town will burn with Carrie s revenge, but will she burn with it? Carrie White Carrie is the main character (you can tell by the title), but I would also say she is partially the antagonist. Her mother raised her to be very religious and told her almost everything she did was a sin. When Carrie wasn t like the other kids, they made fun of her. When they would make fun of her, she got mad. And when she got mad, bad things happened. Carrie learned she had telekinesis. The older she got the more interested she became in her power, so she learned to control it. But a horribly treated girl and a dangerous power don t mix. Sue Snell Susan Snell is the perfect girl every parent wants as their daughter. Good grades, nice to everyone at school, and very pretty and popular. But when the teasing broke out in the locker room she joined in. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. John Keegan s The Face Of Battle John Keegan s The Face of Battle and Sir Charles Oman s The Art of War in the Middle Ages provide insight into how historians approach the subject of battle. When discussing warfare, historians typically approach the subject from a procedural point of view, but it has also become normal to focus on combatants experiences. By cross comparing Keegan and Oman s descriptions of the Battleof Agincourt, it is apparent that both the procedural method and the method of focusing on individuals have merit. However, Keegan and Oman s alternate depictions of the battle demonstrate how combining both perspectives give a more complete understanding of the past. Historical writings have evolved from procedural accounts of events to inquisitive reflections on combatants. Focusing on weapons, strategies and generals perspectives the procedural approach quickly provides in depth information, but often in a distorted way 1. It is important to remember a commander s actions and the events of their battles are often exaggerated to support current political goals . Alternately, a slightly more encompassing approach to warfare considers the conflict s decisiveness in addition to the battle s statistics and facts 1. That is to say, what influence did the battle have on future events and how were people s lives changed by it. Beyond these procedural approaches, modern historians now use a more inquisitive method that combines personal experiences and facts. This more inclusive method allows ... • 6. Corruption In Animal Farm, By George Orwell Imagine growing up and committing your life to the prosperity of education. Each day you strive to better yourself in order to provide for your family in the making. Picture pouring all of your hard work and dedication out to give your child an even better education that you received. In the end, you discover all of your funding and expenses were used by the school for other political campaigns, diverting to other private interests rather than your child s needs. This is an example of corruption in society, just as displayed in the novella Animal Farm, by George Orwell. Condensing the story, main characters Napoleon and Squealer rise to power and set out to create a paradise of equality and prosperity for all animals. What the community soon finds is that the growing tyranny leaves the once bright future crumbling at the seams. Squealer and Napoleon are both narcissists that manipulate Animal Farm according to their needs only. During the introduction of Animal Farm, Orwell unfolds a character whose name was Mr. Jones. He was the owner of the Manor Farm with a lack of dictatorship and leadership skills that left his farm in shambles. The animals on the estate were kicked around and were given the bare minimum, shown by Orwell when he lists The life on an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth. Jones s reoccurring drinking problem and reckless behavior shows the animals something must be done to get rid of him. A satisfactory showcasing of the events in this ... • 10. Apollandsian Vs Dionyysian Friedrich Nietzsche believed that art fit into two categories: the Apollonian and the Dionysian, or sometimes a combination of the two. The Apollonian consists of visual art and poetry, while the Dionysian is music and dancing. But lyrical music, or poetry in music form, is a combination of the two. Revenge of the Dadaists by The Agonist is this kind of song, as there is emphasis on both the lyrics and the music. Within the lyrics is an indirect description of the wisdom of Silenus and its reversal: where life is horrible and death is the end goal, but then art justifies life s problems and eternal life is desired. The singer also sings in the first person, thus surrendering subjectivity through the music. And the words imitate the sound... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But since lyrical music is a combination of both the Apollonian and the Dionysian, it is hard to say which it supports. Even with the constant use of I throughout many songs, including Revenge of the Dadaists, it s hard to say if this is the songwriter s voice, the singer s voice, or the universal voice of humanity in general. Nietzsche says that In the first place, as Dionysian artist he has identified himself with the Primal Unity, its pain and contradiction... Now, however, under the Apollonian dream inspiration, this music reveals itself to him again as a symbolic dream picture... The artist has already surrendered his subjectivity in the Dionysian process. The picture which now shows him his identity with the heart of the world, is a dream scene, which embodies the primordial contradiction and primordial pain, together with the primordial joy, of appearance (511 512). In other words, despite the I used throughout the song, the fact that it is set to music makes the I become part of the Dionysian, thus representing the whole world. So even while the singer sings about personal issues, these problems become dreamlike and universal so anyone can connect to them. Thus everyone knows and feels the singer s pain through contradiction. So in Revenge of the Dadaists, the lyrics You leave footsteps of fire / So no one can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Current Financial Reporting Standards On The Workplace Essay Current Financial Reporting Issues It is incontestable that international financial reporting standards (IFRS) are in vogue and global conformity theoretically on the doorstep as about 100 countries implement standard financial regulations. The idea that uniform reporting standards have the same effect on financial reporting undervalues the contested ability to be flexible in financial reporting and introduces another level of debate on the issue of flexibility and uniformity. Apart from the fact that the merits of flexibility are downplayed to increase cross sectional and inter temporal comparison, prescribed reporting standards compliance is itself not enough basis to claim that financial reporting. The IFRS comprises of principle based standards that have presents financial report manager with the opportunity to increase flexibility on their part and possible manipulation (Benston, 2006). Imagine getting into a car and not worrying about driving alongside drunk drivers, drivers who are exhausted, or distracted drivers who are on their phones. Self driven cars can be beneficial to our society because they will lower traffic while improving safety, lower the death toll in car accidents, and will be environmental friendly. If we start using self driving cars our society will become less worried about risking their lives and people would not be so afraid to get to their destination. First and foremost, with self driven cars having quicker reflexes than humans they will be less likely to make the silly mistakes most humans make which will improve traffic congestion and safety. Chris Urmson, the director of the self driving car project at Google in a blog post says, We have improved our software so it can detect hundreds of distinct objects simultaneously pedestrians, buses, a stop sign held up by a crossing guard, or a cyclist making gestures that indicate a possible turn (Hustad). With driverless cars being this smart, it is okay to get distracted or to make that important business call. These self driving cars are aware like no other and can detect hundreds of objects. It is a little harsh to say, but driverless cars might just pay more attention to the road than a human can because it never gets tired nor distracted. The most important evaluation mechanism for gauging the effectiveness of tax reform is the change in revenue attributed to the change in policy. The results in Kansas represent that when the corporate rate decreases, revenue collections decrease as well. The results described above are not by any means consistent. Some states have increased their tax rates, only to see large declines in corporate tax revenue. By analyzing similar changes in tax rates and revenue collections in other states, a pattern of correlation begins to emerge, which can be seen in Figure 4 below. As Figure 4 illustrates, the correlation between tax rates and revenue generations are assumed to be a direct correlation; that is, as the tax rate increases, revenue collections increase, and vice versa. In his letter, Raphael tries to convince the Pope to put a stop to the destruction of the city by glorifying the work and architecture of the ancients. • 26. Child Abuse And Child Discipline One of the most controversial topics is the difference between child abuse and child discipline. Abuse is any action that intentionally harms or injures another person. Discipline is punishment that is intended to correct or train. Some parents do not see the harm in their form of discipline, but others may view it as abuse. It may not be the parent s intention to harm their child but it is something that occurs. In 2012, state agencies found an estimate 686,000 of child maltreatment. .*(*Kids Count) Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuseare made in the United States involving more than 6 million children (a report can include multiple children). Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through an action or failing to act causes injury, death, or emotional harm to the child. A parent is responsible for disciplining their child, but some may have a tendency of using extreme measures. In my opinion, I think in certain cases mild physical punishment is acceptable. However, severe physical punishment should be avoided at all times, because this is not healthy for the child. Some parents do not know how to handle a child that is misbehaving, which is the reason abusive discipline occurs. There are instances when a child s misbehavior can cause abuse to the parent. The parent will reach a level of anger that will provoke them to automatically slap or hit the child. In which case the parent believes physical force is an acceptable form of punishment. ... Michael struggled to make a commitment to his identity. His identity status could best described as moratorium, the status of a person who is actively involved in exploring different identities, but has not made a commitment (Cherry, 2009). In his works, by means of his humor and wit, Pope satirized the follies and foibles in men and in the aristocratic society of his time quite vividly. • 31. What Is Metaphors Used In The Gothic Novel These dark overtones and internal tensions laid the foundation perfectly for the development of the gothic novel. The fear of the unknown are represented in Radcliffe s gothic novel as the mystery surrounding the fates of other women. Once Emily has found out the truth about the other women, then she is freed of her fears and is able to cope with them. In a very real way she has made the transition to confidence in herself and her own future. This particular brand of gothic novel seems to be an encouragement to women and reassures them. Metaphors and Simile have been a part of the human experience since man began comparing and contrasting things to one another. Used by poets and novelists alike to express comparisons, these elements are extremely useful to the writer. Radcliffe manages to use metaphors to continue and round out the overall tone of the novel. This, too, is evident in the Vol. 2, ch. 5 example. As the landscape changes, she is evoking an implied metaphor stating that experience is constantly changing and that sometimes, if one is lucky, one will suddenly hit upon an inner truthor two, which comes as a result of the constant changing. Interestingly enough, Radcliffe also employs very Romantic Era techniques of utilizing nature to illustrate some of these truths, both inner and outer. In the Vol. 2, ch. 5 piece, the landscape is described in detail. If Classical styles were seen as being typically calm, harmonious, balanced, structured, and rational, then ... This is particularly seen in the description of Sebastian s garden where the setting is nearly a character in itself.
