University level in Quetta city”.
HAFSA BIBI
EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
2. Introduction:
Education is very important for everyone in life by developing
positive character, skills as well as knowledge of students. For
making our education system successful, it is essential to use
modern teaching strategies. Field trip is one of the modern
teaching strategy which is designed to stimulate students’
analytical skills and opportunities for social development.
3. The field trips play significant role in professional development
of teachers in teaching and for understanding subject materials.
It is one of the best pedagogical skills or teaching method which
develops positive behavior of students. It gives practicable life
experience to students and assists students in understanding
the content. In field trips teachers can estimate their student’s
outcomes without any difficulty (Michie. M 1998).
4. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
To identify the effect of field trip on students’ learning behaviour
To analyze the problems faced by teacher in arranging field trips.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
What are the effect of field trip on students learning at university level?
Which problems are faced by teacher in arranging field trips at university level?
How can university management and teachers improve field trips for effective learning?
5. Key Definitions:
Field Trip:
Field trip is an opportunity for students to take a journey away from their classroom environment to enhance their
understanding about the topic related to their curriculum, and experience the surroundings.
Student:
A student is important people who attend an educational organization also known as pupil or learner.
Learning:
Learning is a process of acquiring knowledge different skills, and modifying behavior.
Higher Education:
Higher education is a form of education that exists for advanced training of young people after the twelve
years of previous schooling. Higher education takes place in universities
6. Significance of Study:
. The present study would be significant for students as well as to teachers.
After this study they will come to know about the importance of field trips.
This research study helps teachers to expose those problems which they
faces in arranging field trips. It is strongly hoped that findings of the study
would help educationalist and policy makers to conduct field trips at
higher education level.
7. Literature Review:
The word “field trip” is commonly used when a person or group of persons start tour of
places where they imagine change from normal daily life. When educational field trips
are started by students of an educational organization the focal aim is not only recreation
or reformation and pleasure but also gain extra knowledge through direct experiences. K.
Sampath (2006) defines that throughout the field trips the pupil has concrete learning
experiences in a real
Field trip is effective and helpful teaching strategies which increase the self-confidence
level and build up high level skill in student or learner. Field trip effect the mental level
of student in good way (Gewen Nugent, Beborah Cartson, Richard Levy, David
Hardward, Gin Kunz 2008).
8. Literature Review:
Although field trip is not well-organized way for transmitting information, but
it is helpful to develop understanding to learn through observations and
interpretations (Karabinos, et al 1992).
The basic role of the field trips to provide the opportunity to discover and
develops a direct experience with the environment, which cannot possible in
Classrooms (Scarce 1997).
9. Literature Review:
Types of Field Trips:
(A.Panneerselvam and S.Santhanam 2006) introduce following Types of
educational field trips are:
1. Local trips
2. Community trips
3. Tour or Journey
4. Imaginary tours
5. Inter-school
6. Individual trips
10. Literature Review:
Stages of field trips:
There are three stages (pre-trip, on-trip, and post-trip) in fieldtrip (Port 1997).In field trip students mostly
take interest during pre-trip stage and during on-trip stage students engage in interactive activities (Durian
et al 1990).
While the (Kolb’s 1984) found four stages in field trips
(Stage1): Concrete experience – where the learner is actively experiencing an activity.
Stage2): (Reflective observation – where the learner is consciously reflecting back on that experience.
(stage3): Abstract conceptualization – where the learner is being presented with a theory or model of
what is observed or to be observed.
(Stage 4): Active experimentation – where the learner is trying to plan how to test a model or theory
or plan for a forthcoming experience
11. Research Methodology:
The research study will be descriptive (quantitative) in nature, involving survey
methods through a questionnaire.
Population:
The study will be conduct in Baluchistan province. All the students of Sardar Bahadur
Khan Women’s University (SBKWU) and University of Information Technology and
Management Sciences (BUITEMS) will be the population
Sample:
The sample of two hundred (200) teachers and students (male and female) Sardar
Bahadur Khan Women’s University and Baluchistan University of Information
Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) for this study will be
select through simple random sampling.
12. Research Instrument:
The tool used in the research study for data will be structured questionnaire, interviews and
observations to study the effects of fields trips on students’ motivation. The questionnaire will use
a 5-point Likert Scale. Interviews will be recorded using consented forms and oral consent of the
respondents.
Data Collection:
The investigator will personally distribute the survey questionnaire. The investigator herself will
be present there to guide the respondents. The clear instructions will be given to respondents and
they will be asked to respond to each question as fairly.
13. Data Analysis
SPSS 21 will be used to carry out descriptive and inferential statistics
including the following:
Tabular data analysis using descriptive statistics and frequency tables
Satisfaction scores of responses using t-test analysis (one-sample t-test)
Correlation analysis for studying students’ motivation and fields trip
