IglooConf 2020 - API management for microservices in a hybrid and multi-cloud...Tom Kerkhove
This document summarizes the journey of Codito, a company that started with a monolithic application and migrated to a microservices architecture managed through API management. It describes how Codito initially used Azure API Management to expose a single API for their monolith. They then split the monolith into logical microservices APIs while maintaining the same public API surface. As traffic grew, they fully migrated internal services to microservices behind the API gateway. Finally, they implemented Azure Arc-enabled API Management to run APIs on-premises to meet a customer need. The document emphasizes that building platforms is an iterative journey and companies should start with a monolith and evolve incrementally to microservices as needs dictate.

ABD202_Best Practices for Building Serverless Big Data ApplicationsAmazon Web Services
Serverless technologies let you build and scale applications and services rapidly without the need to provision or manage servers. In this session, we show you how to incorporate serverless concepts into your big data architectures. We explore the concepts behind and benefits of serverless architectures for big data, looking at design patterns to ingest, store, process, and visualize your data. Along the way, we explain when and how you can use serverless technologies to streamline data processing, minimize infrastructure management, and improve agility and robustness and share a reference architecture using a combination of cloud and open source technologies to solve your big data problems. Topics include: use cases and best practices for serverless big data applications; leveraging AWS technologies such as Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon S3, Amazon Kinesis, AWS Lambda, Amazon Athena, and Amazon EMR; and serverless ETL, event processing, ad hoc analysis, and real-time analytics.
One of the key principles at Amazon is that we start with customers and work backwards. Increased agility, elasticity, focus on core business, optimized costs, and better security are all good outcomes when it comes to working with AWS. But, for an enterprise with many existing complex applications, integrated operations, and sophisticated teams, this integration and transition requires thought and planning. Within this session, we will start with a typical enterprise customer and work backwards step by step to show how an extreme IT makeover it possible with reusable examples; demonstrating that an application doesn’t have to be written for cloud to realize cloud’s benefits. Many large-scale shops are already leveraging AWS without sacrificing what they are good at, and we will explain the framework for kicking off this initiative within your own organization.
