The document discusses several topics related to video games:
1) It examines the debate around whether violent video games can cause real-world violence, with some arguing they can provoke violence in susceptible individuals, while others believe most players are not affected.
2) It explores the inclusion of explicit sexual content in some games and whether this content should be reduced or prevented from exposure to players.
3) It describes how some players feel abused or bullied by other aggressive players online, especially in competitive multiplayer shooters, but that this is caused by a small minority of problematic players.
4) It covers game addiction and how some players can become addicted to playing certain games even if they are not very skilled at them
Female Gamers: A closer look a the 'non-traditional' gamerTracy Kennedy
Video games are big business, but can they be much bigger businesses? To do so requires the retention of existing players and the expansion of the player population beyond its historically core constituency of young men. Getting other demographics to engage the console experience may require modifying the product to fit the needs, interests, and issues of non-traditional players. The success of the Wii is an indicator of this shift away from technical superiority to more inclusive play experience. In this talk I will review our research conducted in the homes of a number of video playing households. These visits highlighted several important aspects about the use and conflicts that emerge around the console. Complementary research drawn from data generated by an online game discussion board offers additional insight into the challenges non-traditional gamers (such as women) face when engaging with male-centric content.
I see a lot of movies... and the ones on this list made my favourite movies even better.

1. Effects Debates
Violence
There are people that do believe that violence can occur from people playing
video games they believe that the video games cause the violence and cause
allot of the things what are shown on the media to be coursed by violence are
due to the video games and there is also people that believe that it doesn’t
matter about the games if someone is doing to do something violent they will
do it with or without a video game. In my opinion I believe that video games
don’t effect peoples violence but it can provoke it by cause people to get angry
by certain things on a video game but at the same time allot of people play
video games who don’t cause violence so you can’t take games away from
everyone because of a small minority of the people cause violence because of
them. An example of this would be the elderly lady playing GTA V in a video
you can see the lady being aggressive and showing that she is enjoying what
she is doing on the game.
Explicit Sexual Content
The inclusion of sex and nudity in video games has been a controversial topic
since the early days of the industry. While many video games have used
scantily clad images or characters to sell or enhance games this article deals
with games that use sex acts or nudity as a character motivation, in-game
reward, or simply as a gameplay element. These games originate worldwide,
on most platforms and in most genres. While releases in Europe and North
America have been sporadic, Japan has seen the emergence of a distinct genre
in my opinion one way or the other people are going to be exposed to sexual
content in games it’s just a matter of time in my opinion but I do believe they
could reduce the amount of sexual content and prevent anything happening if
so an example of this would be the game Catherine it’s a game which has
explicit content in it but allot of people have played it and seen the
inappropriate content.
2. Abusive/ Inappropriate
Some people believe that they are being abused or bullied online whilst
playing with other players who take game to serious when either they are
being beaten or they are struggling to play against another player this is usually
seen in games like the Call Of Duty genre when people get killed by other
players allot and they just scream abuse towards them and it can be seen the
other way round even if the player is winning. Allot of people have witnessed
or been a part of this but in my opinion it can’t be the games fault because
there is a few bad eggs playing there game and spoiling it for the others.
Another game example would be in Far Cry 3 the character vaas the character
is everything but friendly he is your main target and the one you are inspired
to kill because of the heartbreak he has caused your family and the pain he
puts you threw.
Addiction
Game addiction is a common thing it is seen when players are playing a game
they really like so they play it allot but it is also seen when they play game they
like but there just not that good at it so they play it allot even though they get
angry and aggressive because the game can frustrate them even though they
aren’t good at it they will still come back and play it because it’s something
they have set their mind on so they play it until they get what they want out of
it. An example of this would be in games like Call of Duty Battlefield and FIFA
Games this is a common thing addiction for many games it can be bad and
good depending on who is playing the games so in my opinion I believe that
people are more affected from games depending on how good they are and
depending on how much they really want to play it.
3. Stereotyping and Representation
This is when the main Usually Male character is made out to be the hard man
or the hero and usually the women characters are made to look like the weak
and useless ones in the games an example of this would be in games like Talien
in the game Middle-earth Shadow of Mordor the character is made out to be a
badass who can take on the world but everyone else in the game is made out
to look weak and worthless but the main character is made to look the best to
make people think he is the best possible character in the game. In my option
this is used to make people believe that what is going on the game is true so
for example in the game GTA V one of the characters Franklin is made to be a
gangster and because he is coloured people automatically assume people are
going to be gangsters if they are coloured so it makes people believe things
without thinking first.
Censorship
This is when the worst things in a game are censored to prevent the public
from seeing the content an example of this would be left for dead 2 in
Australia they got the game censored by preventing players from seeing the
gore and all the good stuff they did this by preventing zombies bodies from
staying on the ground after being killed and they made it so you wouldn’t see
any of the blood on the character’s faces this is a big thing because players are
missing out on everything the game has to offer. I personally think this is
pointless because it’s just cutting out the little things players will still get access
to the content one way or another and they will be exposed to this kind of this
sometime so why not on a games to make it less shocking
