Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to highly recommend Kyle Guzik to your organization. I supervised Kyle during his term
of volunteer experience here at Pocahontas State Park, which runs from January to September of 2020.
Kyle serves as a member on the Park Operations Track as part of the Virginia Service and Conservation
Corps. Park Operations track members serve in a single park and are trained in all aspects of park
management. This includes administration, visitor experience, grounds and facilities maintenance, and
resource management. Members also learn about business operations, interpretive principles, and law
enforcement within parks. Kyle completed training to obtain a qualification as a Certified Interpretive
Guide and also obtained Wildland Firefighting certification to work at controlled burn sites. Kyle has
learned to use tools such a leaf blowers and mowers to help maintain our park and has operated a park
vehicle safely and responsibly. Given the impact of COVID-19 on our park, Kyle has been and integral
part of our team to complete the extra maintenance tasks required to keep our park safe for the public.
Kyle has gained customer service and cash management experience by working at both our contact
station, boat docks and visitor center. Kyle also provided high quality interpretive programming to
school groups and visitors at our park. Kyle has learned to use our wood shop and how to perform
demanding grounds-keeping tasks. Kyle came to us having already had significant experience in a
variety and fields and a master’s in education. Kyle has diverse interests and the ability and motivation
to learn new skills. I am confident that Kyle would be highly successful in a position that requires
someone who can work quickly, and independently, but also as a member of a team. For this position,
Kyle has worked effectively with members of the public, and provided high quality customer service
and educational programming. Kyle has a strong work ethic; he gives a consistent and thorough effort
even for tasks that, while necessary, might also be considered physically demanding and routine.
Because of Kyle’s positive attitude, hard work, and good character, we are very happy to have had the
change to work with him, and I strongly recommend him to your organization.
