topic (Introduction to Groups & Teams), which also
helped us in doing a lot of Research and we came
to know about so many new things we are really
thankful to them.
Secondly We would also like to thank Our team
members who helped us a lot in finalizing this
project within the limited time frame.
This was a great learning experience for all of us .

• It is the social process by which people
interact face to face in small groups.
• A branch of social psychology which
studies problems involving the structure
of a group.
• It’s an interaction that influence the
attitudes & behavior of people when they
are grouped with others through either
choice or accidental circumstances.
6
Tuckman's original work simply described the way he had
observed groups evolve, whether they were conscious of
it or not. The real value is in recognizing where a team is
in the developmental stage process, and assisting the
team to enter a stage consistent with the collaborative
work put forth. In the real world, teams are often forming
and changing, and each time that happens, they can
move to a different Tuckman Stage. A group might be
happily Norming or Performing, but a new member might
force them back into Storming, or a team member may
miss meetings causing the team to fall back into
Storming. Project guides will be ready for this, and will
help the team get back to Performing as quickly as
possible.
7
There are Five Stages of Group Formation these are :
1) Forming
2) Storming
3) Norming
4) Performing
5) Adjourning
8
❖ Think of the forming stage like the first day of school or the first
day at a new job. There’s excitement in the air and everyone is
ready to roll up their sleeves, and get started on the project.
Usually, group dynamics and roles have yet to be established,
a team leader will typically emerge and take charge and direct
the individual members.
❖ Think of this phase like when you move in with a friend you’ve
never lived with before, and you slowly start to notice the little
things about them that get on your nerves. The same is likely to
happen with members of your team. While some teams think
they can skip this stage, it’s important to dive into it with the
expectation that there may be some conflict.
❖ An example of the norming stage would be a period, usually
around six months into the research project, where the team
members understand each other's preferences. The
preferences include preferred working methods and personal
boundaries and showing respect for them.
❖ In the Performing stage, the team makes significant progress
towards its goals. Commitment to the team's mission is high
and the competence of team members is also high. Team
members should continue to deepen their knowledge and skills,
including working to continuously improving team
development.
❖ They may experience conflict as they share their differing
opinions about the case based on their life experiences
and as they get to know each other's personalities. They
work through any conflicts that arise so they can focus
on their prescribed work.
Unpacking the
Dynamics of
Group Types:
An Overview
Introduction
Group Dynamics refers to the
processes that occur within a group.
Understanding these dynamics is
essential to achieving effective team
performance.This presentation aims
to unpack the different types of
groups and their dynamics.
Formal Groups
Formal groups are designed by the
organization to meet specific goals.They
have a designated structure and hierarchy.
Members have assigned roles and
responsibilities.Understanding the
group's goals and objectives is key to
understanding its dynamics.
Informal Groups
Informal groups are formed by individuals
with common interests or goals. They are
not sanctioned by the organization and
have no designated structure or hierarchy.
Members voluntarily join and participate.
Understanding the group's social
dynamics is key to understanding its
effectiveness.
Group Norms
Norms are the unwritten rules and
expectations that guide group behavior.
They can be explicit or implicit.
Understanding the group's norms is
essential to understanding its dynamics.
Norms can influence communication,
decision-making, and conflict resolution.
Group Cohesion
Group cohesion refers to the degree to
which group members are attracted to
each other and motivated to stay in the
group.Cohesive groups tend to have
better performance and member
satisfaction.Understanding the factors
that contribute to group cohesion is key
to understanding its dynamics.
Conclusion
In conclusion, understanding the dynamics of different types of
groups is essential to achieving effective team performance.
Formal and informal groups have different structures and
dynamics.Group norms and cohesion are key factors that
influence group behavior. By understanding these dynamics, we
can improve communication, decision-making, and conflict
resolution within our teams.

WHAT IS TEAMWORK?
Teamwork is the collaborative effort
of a group to achieve a common
goal or to complete a task in the
most effective and efficient way.
This concept is seen within the
greater framework of a team, which
is a group of interdependent
individuals who work together
towards a common goal.
17
“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a
whole orchestra to play it.” – H.E. Luccock.
This is so true! Without teamwork, no business
can succeed. Let’s see the importance of
teamwork and why businesses should promote
teamwork.
18
❑ IMPORTANCE OF TEAMWORK
Teamwork is important because it enables
your team to share ideas and responsibilities,
which helps reduce stress on everyone,
allowing them to be meticulous and thorough
when completing tasks. This will enable them
to meet sales goals quickly.
19
❑ Case Study
Final year students enrolled in the InteractiveMultimedia course at Edith Cowan University
are required to develop skills and expertise in managing the design and developmentof client
web sites. The unit IMM 3228/4228 – “Project ManagementMethodologies”, uses teams offour or five students
to utilise their specialist skills to meet a “real need” for an industry
client. Team roles include programmers, graphic designers and project managers. There were
82 students (20 teams) completing this unit. The aim was to have students experience project
managementissues that occur when dealing with “real” clients in “real” projects and was
heavily focused on teamwork and problem solving. The environment was based on the
learning principles of authenticity, self-regulation and reflection (Luca & Oliver, 2001).
Features included student contracts, journals (for self/peer assessment& reflection),
“Conference Centre” for problem solving, bulletin boards, time management tools, syllabus
and assessment materials, lecture notes, legal/QA templates, relevant URL’s, web sites and
assignments developed by previous students and a student details database.
Within this setting, two teams were selected for investigation. One team was highly successful
in developing a quality product, and collaborated in a highly successful manner. Another team,
experienced severeteam problems, which caused it to become dysfunctional and had to be
split. Data was collected on both of these teams from focus groups sessions, interviews and
questionnaires that were recorded and transcribed for analysis. A summary of the results is
discussed below with reference to key attributes needed for successful teamwork
THANK YOU

The unit IMM 3228/4228 – “Project ManagementMethodologies”, uses teams offour or five students to utilise their specialist skills to meet a “real need” for an industry client. Team roles include programmers, graphic designers and project managers. There were 82 students (20 teams) completing this unit. The aim was to have students experience project managementissues that occur when dealing with “real” clients in “real” projects and was heavily focused on teamwork and problem solving. The environment was based on the learning principles of authenticity, self-regulation and reflection (Luca & Oliver, 2001). Features included student contracts, journals (for self/peer assessment& reflection), “Conference Centre” for problem solving, bulletin boards, time management tools, syllabus and assessment materials, lecture notes, legal/QA templates, relevant URL’s, web sites and assignments developed by previous students and a student details database. Within this setting, two teams were selected for investigation. One team was highly successful in developing a quality product, and collaborated in a highly successful manner. Another team, experienced severeteam problems, which caused it to become dysfunctional and had to be split. Data was collected on both of these teams from focus groups sessions, interviews and questionnaires that were recorded and transcribed for analysis. A summary of the results is discussed below with reference to key attributes needed for successful teamwork
