2. A World of Entertainment
Since the beginning of time, man has always looked for
ways to entertain himself. Our sources of
entertainment have evolved through the ages and with
the coming of the Internet, entertainment has found a
whole new world: online. Virtually everything you
would want for entertainment is now online, be it
television, movies, games, or others. The Internet
doesn't just connect you to the rest of the world; it can
also give you a lot of pleasure and amusement right at
your very own home.
3. One-Stop Media Center
The Internet is a one-stop media center where you can
watch movies, personal videos, and even TV shows
online. You can also stream (play a media file online)
sound, music and video, play all manner of games, or
read articles and books to your heart's content. A lot of
people also use blogs as personal entertainment or for
therapy. If you like writing as a hobby, then having an
online blog is definitely a pleasurable form of
entertainment.
4. Blogging
an activity that involves posting your thoughts,
memorabilia, or works in a Web log, a kind of online diary.
You can also register in social network sites where you
can socialize with peers or people of like interest. Blogs
and other social networks allow you to peek into the lives
of other people who have willingly made aspects of their
lives public. You can even interact with them if you wish,
thus exposing a part of your life to them. The list of
entertainment options available on the Internet is
endless.

The internet has made possible for us to catch our
favorite shows at our most convenient time and to watch
our favorite films right from our computer.

7. Streaming and downloading music, TV shows, or films can
take a while, and if you don't feel like waiting and want
instant entertainment, you can go to websites that offer
reading content for your pleasure. For instance, if you like
reading news, you can visit news sites such as Cable News
Network (CNN), Microsoft Network (MSN), British
Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), PhilStar and the like, where
you can get daily updated reports categorized by locales or
news types from fashion, to science, to Hollywood.

media we access each day, the Internet also offers
a lot of interactive fun and entertainment. What
follows are some of the common interactive
platforms and activities patronized by many
people to cure their boredom.

world whenever and wherever we want. A chat room usually
centers on a topic and if you feel like talking about a certain
interest that you have, all you have to do is join the chat room
that discusses it. Chatting also allows you to interact with your
friends or anyone you know and spend as much as you like
talking about things you may or may not talk about in person.
Chatting is a communication tool that goes beyond business,
official or educational matters; it's a well-patronized
entertainment source as well.

10. Social "friend" networks are one of the top online places
where people spend a lot of time. Social networks are a
great source of entertainment because aside from the
actual process of networking and being connected to
people, it also offers a lot of other features such as
gaming, chat, music streaming, and more. Social
networks will be discussed more extensively in the next
lesson.

11. A few years ago, blogging was something done by only a
few people who loved to write and who had regular
access to the Internet. Today, it seems that we have
reached the "blogging age" where almost everyone
who's ever wished for his or her own website has a blog.
Blogging can have many functions, foremost of which is
to encourage user-generated content or UGC. The
consumption of user-generated content is steadily
increasing. In the US, it's expected that by 2013, 155
million Internet users will have read some form of UGC.
12. Online games allow you to play with other people
anywhere in the world without leaving your seat. Online
games can range from simple, easy-to-learn, text-based
games to more complex virtual games set in 3D
environments that can be played by thousands of people
at the same virtual games chave instant communication

gamers. Online gaming is another form of online social
activity that kids generally engage in.

13. Online games can be classified into various categories. For instance,
a game can be categorized into single and multiplayer. SINGLE
PLAYER games are basically games that you play alone, while
MULTIPLAYER games allow interaction with people anywhere in the
world at the same time. Online games can also be classified with
regards to what they are about. For instance, there are action and
adventure games which often involve fighting, situational tasks,
animation, and a storyline. Online board games are the online
versions of board games we play in real life such as Snakes and
Ladders. Other types of online games include card games, arcade
games, sports games, and puzzle games.
