or may not talk about in person. Chatting is a communication
tool that goes beyond business, official or educational
matters; it's a well-patronized entertainment source as well.

time. Social networks are a great source of

A few years ago, blogging was something done by only a few people who
loved to write and who had regular access to the Internet. Today, It seems
that we have reached the "blogging age" where almost everyone who's
ever wished for his or her own website has a blog. Blogging can have
many functions, foremost of which is to encourage user-generated content
or UGC. The consumption of user-generated content is steadily increasing.
In the US, it's expected that by 2013, 155 million Internet users will have
read some form of UGC. Some people blog to chronicle their thoughts or
capture a certain memory or moment of their lives. Others blog about
specific subjects or niches that give them creative satisfaction or income
on the side. Blogging will be discussed more extensively in Lesson 5.

Online games allow you to play with other people anywhere
in the world without leaving your seat. Online games can
range from simple, easy-to-learn, text-based games to more
complex virtual games set in 3D environments that can be
played by thousands of people at the same time. Many
online games also have instant communication features that
allow you to chat or leave a message to your co-gamers.
Online gaming is another form of online social activity that
kids generally engage in.

56. A recent study in 2015 has led to estimates that 92% of US
teenagers between 12 and 17 years old use the Internet every month.
The continuous release of new online games and the availability of
broadband connections have spurred a vast increase in the number of
Filipino online gamers, even as Internet cafés proliferate in the cities
offering gaming memberships to Massively Multiplayer Online Role
Playing Games (MMORPG). Some of the most popular of this type of
online game played by Filipinos are World of Warcraft and Ragnarok.
Some offer free memberships and use of limited facilities. Runescape,
for instance, has a vast area where non-paying players can have
adventures and interact with one another. Payment of membership
fees permit access to more areas, features, quests, and items. It was
estimated by the International Data Corporation (IDC) that online
gamers in the Philippines will rise to 335.88 million in numbers in
2018.

GAMES
Online games can be classified into various categories. For instance, a game
can be categorized into single and multiplayer. Single online games are basically
games that you play alone, while multiplayer games allow interaction with people
anywhere in the world at the same time.
Online games can also be classified with regards to what they are about. For
instance, there are action and adventure games which often involve fighting,
situational tasks, animation. and a storyline. Online board games are the online
versions of board games we play in real life such as Snakes and Ladders. Other
types of online games include card games, arcade games, sports games, and
puzzle games.

the Philippine entertainment industry, or
showbiz, as we call it. Millions of Filipinos
around the world visit the site each day to
get the latest news on celebrities and to
react to issues as well. PEP also features

celebrity homes, showbiz gatherings, and
more. With PEP, showbiz fans need not buy
magazines and other related publications
anymore to know the latest on celebrities
and local entertainment.

a game where you take care of a pet,

game involves various activities such as

goals, and in the long run, even be a hindrance to your
success and a bane to your health. If you feel that you're
spending too many hours online entertaining yourself rather
than doing homework and being productive, then you can take
the following advice.
