Greg’s Inquiry
PLT Meeting
February 12, 2015
Where Am I?
• Deep into the inquiry process
• Have developed my Problem of Practice and have made several “next best
steps”
• Still working through this process
Area of Greatest Need
My Personal Area of Greatest Need
• “My challenge this year is to work closely with the junior team to monitor
the progress of the math programs. Our EQAO data clearly indicates this is
our school's area of greatest need. We have some very good teachers with
very different personalities and teaching styles. There is not a great deal of
trust or willingness to share or learn together.”
My Learning
• “How do I learn to bring diverse people together? I need to find the time to
work with team to bring them together. Find common ground and a starting
point for this team to work collaboratively.”
If….Then Statement
• “If I invest time, co-learn with my team members, and set strategic goals
with my Junior Team, then their classroom practices will become more
aligned.”
Next Best Move 1
• Carve out time to meet with each team for “Check In Meetings”
• Review the Inquiry Process, decide on next steps for teacher learning
Reflection:
• Had some great meetings!
• Junior Team not as productive-teachers working with fixed mindset
Next Best Move 2
• During Staff Meeting times when working on our School Continuous
Improvement Plan, purposely position myself with the Junior Team to help
move them forward
Reflection
• We have found that Staff Meeting time is not optimal learning conditions for
adults. This strategy has not been as successful as hoped the time is limited
and difficult to hear from all team members
Next Best Move 3
• Use staff members to model and share at Staff Meetings to give other teams
an idea as to what is happening with other grades/divisions
• Consider mixing up the teams with teachers who “get it” with teachers who
don’t
• Use our PA Day as a time to allow for small group work and have deeper
discussions
