NCC’s ‘Green Week’ is a week of spreading environmental awareness
There will be lots of activities happening at each campus, from upcycling clothing challenges to workshops on
food waste and cooking on a budget.
As part of the week, NCC will also be:
•Streaming episodes of ‘David Attenborough’s Frozen Planet’.
•Collecting food bank donations at some campuses.
•Offering a free hot drink for students and staff that have reusable cups.
For the full schedule and more available resources, please visit the VLE.
What is Green Week?
Why does carbon footprint
matter?
Carbon footprint is the
total amount of
greenhouse gases
(including carbon dioxide
and methane) that are
generated by our actions
To achieve the goal of stopping global warming at 1.5°C, all countries
will need to reach net zero emissions by 2050, with most reduction
taking place by 2030.
This means reducing emissions as close to zero as possible and
offsetting emissions that cannot be reduced

YOUR environmental footprint is

In 2021/2022, NCC produced 4,095
tonnes of CO2e emissions (tCO2e).
To put this into context, 1 tonne
of CO2e
is equivalent to a return flight

emissions from gas, electricity and
water use
How did we reduce NCC’s carbon
footprint last year?
400+ students
across every campus
participated
in the first
annual Green Week
105 trees were
planted in 6
campuses
Carbon Literacy
Training was given
to staff and
students
Heating and
cooling temperatures
were reduced
across the group
In comparison to 2019/2020, last year NCC
reduced energy use by 2.67%, electricity
consumption by 8% and gas consumption by 4%
In total, this saved 364 tonnes of CO2e
emissions
The installation of
LED lighting was
rolled-out
Closure of specific
building blocks
earlier in the day
What YOU can do to
reduce NCC’s carbon
footprint
Spread the word to family and
friends on how they can reduce their
carbon footprint
Walk, cycle or carpool more
Choose plant alternatives
to meat sometimes
Avoid wasting food
Use both sides of paper Avoid unnecessary
printing
Switch off lights when
leaving an empty room
Unplug electronics
and turn off
computer when not
in use
