Greek theaters were built to honor Dionysus, the god of theater and wine. Only men were allowed to perform in plays, sometimes wearing masks if playing female roles. There were two main types of dramas - tragedies, which had unhappy endings, and comedies, which literally meant "happy ending" in Greek. Tragedies typically involved characters struggling against problems and failing, resulting in deaths or sorrow, while comedies aimed to be humorous. Greek plays often explored philosophical questions about good and evil, people's rights, and the role of Greek gods in their lives.
