2. Introduction
Learning English as a second language offers many benefits in today’s business world not only as a
means to communicate with people on the other side of the world but it serves to show a person’s
intelligence too. When a person is willing to commit to learn what has become known as the
International language of today’s modern world it shows they want to be a success. Below are just a
few reasons why it is so important to be able to speak English and to speak it well.
Many colleges and careers currently have requirements for proving that the students speak,
understand and can communicate English, to complete their studies, I made a summary for your
understanding, I hope that this work is for your understanding and you can use this resource , like a
guide to know about this topic.

3. English may not be the most spoken language in the world, but it is the official language in a large
number of countries. It is estimated that the number of people in the world that use in English to
communicate on a regular basis is 2 billion.
English is the dominant business language and it has become almost a necessity for people to speak
English if they are to enter a global workforce, research from all over the world shows that cross-
border business communication is most often conducted in English. Its importance in the global
market place therefore cannot be understated, learning English really can change your life. Many of
the world’s top films, books and music are published and produced in English. Therefore by
learning English you will have access to a great wealth of entertainment and will be able to have a
greater cultural understanding.
Most of the content produced on the internet (50%) is in English. So knowing English will allow
you access to an incredible amount of information which may not be otherwise available!
Although learning English can be challenging and time consuming, we can see that it is also very
valuable to learn and can create many opportunities!
Currently it is quite clear, for college students, English is essential in your student life and even
more in their professional future, for many is part of their daily lives surf the Internet to support
their research articles or texts by authors and global publishers, most of them written in English and
an increasing amount written in other languages but with good English translations, which are
everyday college student and later professional life but besides that there is also a requirement to
complete his college career, required by most universities in the country and which usually
students; relying on the skills acquired during years of study at school and university; only
concerned when the time to really learn the language is already quite limited.
This behavior is typical of our culture; leave everything to the last day; but unfortunately begins to
take its toll on those who strive to climb the educational steps, giving advantage to those who to this
requirement, graduating in less time by not needing to study the language at the University are
ahead, as well as have access to scholarships or loans for post-graduate education abroad.
In most universities a minimum level of English is required to graduate as a professional.

4. Admission Process to Complete College
All students who join a program leading to the degree of Bachelor or Technical must, as a condition
for obtaining the grade- get a certificate stating their proficiency at an intermediate level in the four
language skills of English: understanding reading and listening, speaking and writing.
Is mandatory to all students who passed the PAA with the scores established by the UTP, submit the
Test of English (Inglés Language Assessment System for Hispanics - ELASH II) and psychological
testing. These tests are diagnostic in nature, with the exception of some races.
The careers of the Technological University of Panama that require a minimum passing score on the
test Elash II are:
• Degree in Aviation Management with or without option to flight - 100 points.
• Flight Dispatch Technician - 100 points.
• Aircraft Maintenance Technician specializing in engines and fuselage - 90 points.
• Bilingual Degree in Business Communication - 90 points.
The University of Panama is complying with the Act No. 2 of January 14, 2003, which states in
Article 6 that "The official and private universities establish mechanisms and programs necessary
for the applicant to any degree, plus Spanish, have knowledge of English or another world language
needed for their professional practice. This provision will be implemented in a term not to exceed
five years from the date of the enactment of this Act. "In that sense, it has prepared a special
program of certification in English that includes an innovative tool to support the teaching of
English as a second language in a period of one (1) calendar year. In this way, students can learn the
language and attain Intermediate to meet this requirement, prior to completion of their studies at the
university.
Mandatory certification in English and / or other languages is 2007. Students, who first entered in
2007 and in subsequent years, must be certified.

7. How does the accreditation of English language
work?
The University of Panama, through the Language Centre of the Faculty of Humanities will form
human resources with language skills in English to meet the development of the areas of greatest
demand in the occupational field, thanks to a program that combines methodological mode
classroom to the internet.
It is implementing a program for the development of language skills in English for all students
enrolled as of 2007, allowing the attainment of an Upper Intermediate level.
Details of the tests
Online test on the same date, time and duration, Campus and all the Regional University and
University Extension Centers.
The Language Centre will determine the type of proof to be applied in each date and will inform all
academic units.

Law governing the accreditation ofstudents in panama stipulates that it is compulsory to have
minimum knowledge the English language, before the end of university studies .

13. Conclusion
English, being the language that’s accepted throughout the world, is the one language that’s worth
mastering. English is used in so many main industries including the realms of films and computers.
It’s the one world language that opens doors to those who can speak it fluently. It may be
challenging to learn at first, but with all the modern technologies which includes having access to
online English courses and word game software, life has been made that much easier. Once you
appreciate all the reasons why it is so important to be able to speak English, should motivate you to
do so to the best of your abilities
We are in the point where we need stay looking forward to improve , that's why many government ,
universities ,are working hard to prepare their student to confirm the problem and give the skill they
