This lab experiment aimed to quantify the amount of protein in milk samples. Different types of milk were diluted with a reagent and their absorbance measured with a spectrophotometer. By multiplying the absorbance values by the dilution factor, the amount of protein in each milk sample could be calculated in grams and compared to the nutrition label listings.

Milk not only contains calcium, but it also contains casein. Casein is a protein. We diluted the samples of different types of milk with a reagent. After diluting the samples we calculated the absorbance using the spectrophotometer. With the values of absorbance we can calculate the amount of protein; this can be possible by multiplying the absorbance by the dilution factor, which in this case was 50. This can then be changed into grams, and the value can be comparable to the amount in the nutrition facts label in each package of milk.<br />
