Presentation for Introduction to Google Cloud Platform. This PPT provides basic understanding for services provided by Google Cloud Platform like Compute, Storage, VPC, IAM.
Exploiting IAM in the google cloud platform - dani_goland_mohsan_faridCloudVillage
"Cloud infrastructure design is complex and makes even the most straight-forward topics, such as Identity and Access Management (IAM), non-trivial and confusing and therefore, full of security risk. While AWS IAM provides for access via console and API/CLI using access keys, there is also a temporary security tokens feature, designed for secure temporary access. However, temporary tokens have multiple security pot-holes that can lead to exploits.
I'll explore the limitations of temporary tokens including:
- the lack of visibility/management
- minimal logging
- limited remediation options
and how this can be taken advantage of, especially in combination with other techniques such as assuming of roles, pre-signed URLs, log attacks, and serverless functions to achieve persistence, lateral movement, and obfuscation.
In addition, I’ll look at common defensive techniques and best practices around lockdown, provisioning, logging and alerting to see whether these are practical and can shift the field."
Google annonced its serverless solution in early March, and developers could easily build microservices from zero to planet scale, all without managing infrastructure. Peter will talk about Google's solution in general and how we can deploy and debug a serverless application.
Google’s software-defined global network, underlying network virtualization stack (Andromeda) and network services along with open innovations provide the foundation for securely delivering a diversity of workloads and services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Google Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) provides you with a secure and flexible sandbox to run your cloud workloads. Global Load Balancing and Cloud CDN deliver global reach, scale and high availability and secure your apps against DDoS attacks. Cloud Interconnect enables seamless connectivity options for hybrid/multi-cloud app delivery. This talk provides an in-depth look at Google Cloud Networking, what's under the hood, the benefits it delivers along with real world GCP customer stories.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides on-demand computing resources and services in the cloud, with pay-as-you-go pricing. This session provides an overview and describes how using AWS resources instead of your own is like purchasing electricity from a power company instead of running your own generator. Using AWS resources provides many of the same benefits as a public utility: Capacity exactly matches your need, you pay only for what you use, economies of scale result in lower costs, and the service is provided by a vendor experienced in running large-scale networks. A high-level overview of AWS infrastructure (such as AWS Regions and Availability Zones) and AWS services is provided as part of this session.

Cloud Price Comparison - AWS vs Azure vs GoogleRightScale
Cloud pricing is complicated. It can be difficult to compare cloud prices because providers offer different pricing models, unique discounting options, frequent price cuts, and promises to match prices. We sort through the noise and provide a reality check on which providers have the lowest-cost compute and storage options and in which circumstances.
Cloud Computing is one of transformational technology shifts that is the most misunderstood. Many businesses, individuals fear how cloud would affect their daily lifes, from security, privacy and changes in their daily life. Fortunately, this is a technology that can be embraced in phases. Your business can seize this opportunity and make it as one of your competitive strategy.
The 2014 Future of Cloud Computing Survey was conducted in partnership with 72 Collaborators. The survey is the most widely endorsed survey of its kind in the industry. Compare Clouds: Aws vs Azure vs Google vs SoftLayerRightScale
Most enterprises have a multi-cloud strategy, but choosing the right cloud for a workload can be challenging. We’ll share a free tool to compare public cloud features and help you make the best decision for each workload. We’ll also drill down on a few key areas where the leading public clouds are different.
Microsoft Azure vs Amazon Web Services (AWS) Services & Feature MappingIlyas F ☁☁☁
If you are a Cloud Architect, Developer, IT Manager, Director or whoever may be, if you are associated with Azure or AWS cloud in some form, I’m sure you must have come across a common question.
“What is the alternate service available in Azure or AWS vice versa and it’s pricing?” I’m sure you will say yes!
Agreed, it’s hard to remember all the services offered by public clouds, i.e. Azure and AWS. Remembering existing services and their benefits itself is a big task, on top of that updating ourselves with the new feature releases and enhancements is another major task.
So I put together a Service & Feature Mappings between Microsoft Azure & AWS for my and colleagues quick reference.
I hope you also find this piece informative.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
