When you were diagnosed with cancer, you were thrust into the fight of your life. But you may have quickly learned that the greater battle was surviving the hit that your cancer care delivered to your bank account.
You’re not alone. Bankruptcy rates are almost twice as high among cancer patients as the general population.
"Patients diagnosed with cancer may face significant financial stress, owing to income loss and out-of-pocket costs associated with their treatment," says Scott Ramsey, MD, PhD, a healthcare economist and internist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington. "On average, bankruptcy rates increased 4-fold within 5 years of diagnosis."
Join Fight Colorectal Cancer for a webinar that will detail what resources exist to help patients navigate the very expensive waters of cancer treatment. You will hear from a person who is on the front lines of the battle: Elaine Martinez, a case manager with the Colorectal CareLine at the Patient Advocate Foundation.
Elaine serves as an active liaison between patients and their insurers, employers and/or creditors to resolve insurance, job retention, and/or debt crisis matters relative to their diagnosis of colorectal cancer. Her responsibilities include: exploring reimbursement levels for prescribed colorectal cancer treatments, researching available clinical trials for this patient population and facilitating enrollment into appropriate patient resource programs for both the uninsured and underinsured colorectal patients.

WhyGoodwillHomeMedicalEquipment?
A cancer patient in need of a hospital bed...
An elderly person who requires
incontinence supplies...
A child with a disability who needs specialized
equipment for physical therapy or school...
An individual who requires
monthly wheelchair maintenance...
All of these medical and rehabilitation needs have
something in common—they are very expensive
and not always covered by health insurance.
Getting these necessities and others into the hands
of those who need them at affordable prices is why
Goodwill Home Medical Equipment (GHME) exists.
A nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, GHME is a
division of Goodwill Industries of Southern NJ &
Philadelphia that focuses on giving new life to
gently-used medical equipment and unopened

2. OtherServices
If you or someone you love uses
a wheelchair, you know that
comfort and safety are top
priorities. Tires lose their
traction, hand rims become
loose, joysticks break, and
armrests crack yet insurance
companies typically don’t
approve the purchase of a new wheelchair for 5-7
years! That is why GHME offers:
• Wheelchair-Power/ManualRepairService
• BatteryReplacementProgram
• FacilityWheelchairMaintenanceProgram
HowWeOperate
1.Youdonate.
We collect and recycle your gently-used home
medical equipment and unopened medical
supplies. Bulk donations from doctor’s offices and
hospitals are also welcome. Donations are 100%
tax deductible and receipts are always provided.
Here’s how you can donate:
• Go to www.goodwillnj.org to find the Goodwill
donation site nearest you.
• Donate at Goodwill Home Medical Equipment
(18 Arctic Parkway, Ewing, NJ 08638).
• Or for larger items, call 609-396-1513 to
schedule a pick up at your home or medical
facility.
2.Wegiveitemsasecondlife.
Next, we sanitize and refurbish medical equipment
to prepare for resale. We ensure that every item is
sanitized and meets all Center for Disease Control
(CDC) safety requirements. Repairs are done, as
needed, to further restore items to their original
function.
3.Together,wehelppeoplesaveandthrive.
We sell refurbished medical equipment to
those who need it without any eligibility
or prescription requirements. Items are sold
in our 10,000 foot store in Ewing, NJ
and incontinence products can be purchased
online at www.goodwillhomemedical.org.
Shoppers enjoy savings of up to 50% their full retail
price while donors have the satisfaction of
knowing their gently-used items now have a
second life in helping others. Cash and credit cards
are accepted. A final advantage is that our sales
revenue fund Goodwill’s job training programs that
prepare individuals with disabilities and
disadvantages for competitive employment.
