The Importance Of Air Traffic Control
Air traffic controllers have one of the most stressful jobs in the world. Many controllers at each
airport individually control aircrafts at different stages of flight. For example, the stations
include fight service, departure, approach, center, en route, clearance and delivery, ground, and
tower. Every plane in the sky is under control of an air traffic operator. Each of these controllers
is controlling multiple aircraft at once, and controllers have to time everything perfectly. At peak
hours, just over 5,000 airplanes in the sky carry passengers around the world, and air traffic
controllers have the job to keep thousands of people alive and safely land and take off the
airplanes. With this thought on their minds, their jobs can become very stressful, especially with
the amount of information they need to retain during the job. With the amount of different factors
that cause stress in air traffic controllers, it can affect their job performances as well as make their
jobs more challenging; therefore, they need to develop coping sources that help them deal with and
reduce job related stress. High travel times, bad weather, emergencies, family issues, and language
details are all contribute to major factors in air traffic controlstress. First, air traffic controllers deal
with many airplanes throughout the day, especially during peak hours. During the peak traffic time,
just over 5,000 airplanes are in the air. As observed by Finkelman and Kirschner, controllers are

Learning and Stress
1. Describe how you can use operant conditioning principles to a) discontinue your undesired
behavior and b) replace that behavior with the desirable behavior you identified.
Since I was in middle school, I have always had the bad habit of biting my nails. In the past, I
have attempted to stop. I have tried to get acrylic nails, but I just ended up biting those too. I even
made it my New Year s resolution one year. So far, nothing has been successful. I would like to
take this opportunity to try and stop biting my nails once and for all.
The textbook defines operant conditioning as the process of modifying behavior through the use of
positive or negative consequences following specific behaviors. It is based on the notion that ...

I will attempt to use the operant conditioning method to stop biting my nails. I will reward my
self by adding a dollar to my manicure fund for each day I am successful in not biting my nails. I
will also plan to bring a stress ball to work and class. When I feel the urge to bite my nails, I will
squeeze the stress ball instead. I will replace my nail biting habit with using the stress ball.
During the first week, I earned 5 dollars. I slipped up and started to bite my nails during one of my
classes. I didn t even realize I was doing it for about 5 minutes. I also slipped up another day while
doing homework. I was successful in bringing my stress ball with me to class and work, but did
not find myself using it too often. I think I need to make more of an effort to take it out when I am
at my desk or in class.
After 19 days, I have earned the $14 I need treat myself to a manicure. Although it took me longer
than I had hoped for, I am very proud of myself for completing my first goal. Now, I hope to
continue with the system and treat myself to another manicure in 2 weeks. Although I would not
consider this a complete success, I have certainly improved on biting my nails less than I did
before this exercise.
4. What do you consider to be your most important source of stress? Based on what you read
about how to cope with stress, what do you consider to be the best way to effectively cope with

Essay The Death of Socrates
The Death of Socrates Viewing the painting The Death of Socrates by Jacques Louis David, one
can perceive many different subject matters, both literally and metaphorically. The obvious is seen
within the setting of the painting. The clear illustration of where the event is happening provides
the onlooker with a glimpse into a different time and era. Conversely, the artist has taken the liberty
to hide deep meaning inside the work of art through less apparent means. Symbolism through art
work has endured from early works to contemporized ones, here is no different. Taking the two
aforementioned into consideration gives us a glimpse into both the symbolic and factual
significance of the occasion. What we can term as the Roman ... Show more content on

Given the body of a Greek god, Socrates seems far from frail and is bursting with strength and
power. Furthermore, to give Socrates an air of wisdom, he was given a beard. The beard which
is representative of knowledge and intelligence flows freely upon the great teacher as his time of
execution approaches. While appearing to have the divinity of a god, Socrates is still painted
with physical emotion. The duality of being godly and human at the same time may have been a
recurring theme at the time this was painted. Not only looking at the mere representation of the
figure who is Socrates, but by examining how he is situated among others in the painting also
uncovers meaning in of itself. Studying the way that Socrates body is situated you can see that
the artist is trying to make a statement of nobility in self sacrifice. The finger of Socrates is
pointed upward and is in the highest position in the chamber. Much like a mountain commands the
landscape, so does Socrates finger in a room full of disarray and uncertainty. This can also tells us
that although ready to die and in his final hour, his teachings and beliefs will continue to live on.
Although Socrates is on his deathbed he still continues to teach and philosophize. Something else
that should be noted is the posture of Socrates. His back is completely erect with no support.

Polytheism In Latin America
Spain and Portugal successfully colonized South America during the 15th century and as a result
exploited the land they conquered to their benefit. The Treaty of Tordesillas divided the region
between the two great powers and allowed them to do what they wished with the land they
controlled. Religious missionaries worked to convert the natives to the scripture of the Catholic
Church while simultaneously enslaving them and claiming their resources as their own. The
indigenous people were infuriated with the arrogance of their European conquerors and found
inspiration from the United Statesof America and the French to lead a revolution of their own. The
consequences of these series of uprisings and the basis for their desire to possess independence is
still being witnessed in modern day Mexico, through the Zapatistas. The Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas
were three prominent cultures in South America. Polytheism, human sacrifice, agriculture, and a
self governed empires were all aspects of Latin American civilizations prior to their colonization.

human rights have been infringed upon by the government. The majority of the natives live in
poverty and 70 percent of them suffer from malnutrition. Agriculture is their main source of
income, but due to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) the United States of
America and Canadian farming giants are given the option to buy or rent their land which causes
a financial concern for the people. The day the NAFTA was put in place, on January 1st 1994, the

The Benefits Of Assisted Living
Assisted living has become the generic name for most senior living facilities. However, today
these facilities come in many different sizes and levels of care. Early in history there were only
two choices for seniors, they could age at home with family or they could enter a nursing home.
Many seniors who couldn t completely live on their own and were still to some degree
independent and able bodied did not need higher levels of care offered at nursing facilities;
creating a need for different types of senior living. Assisted living became a more ideal lifestyle
for seniors who wanted to age independently. Facilities have now begun to tailor their offerings to
specific populations creating specialties with differing levels of care. With the U.S. population
aging there is not only an increase in number of senior facilities but also their characteristics. As
a result of the baby boom during 1946 to 1964 children comprised approximately one third of the
U.S. population in 1970, and only one tenth of the population was 65 or older. Today, 40 million
people in the United States are ages 65 and older, but this number is projected to more than
double to 89 million by 2050 (Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, Mather, 2011). Coupled with the number of
baby boomer reaching the age 65 is the fact that people are now living longer. In 1970 the average
age was 70.8 years, in 2010 the average age was 78.3 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2011). However it
doesn t necessary mean that since the average

Bystander Intervention
StepUp is an interactive workshop that talks about how to intervene in situations with problematic
behavior either intentional and unintentional. In the workshop, I learned how to assess challenging
situations and determine how to safely intercede and still be protected from or not exposed to
danger or risk implementing the 3Ds Direct, Distract, and Delegate. I also learned about Bystander
Interventiona philosophy and strategy for prevention of various types of violence, including
bullying, hazing, harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, discrimination, binge drinking,
and mental health concerns. How these are of great importance was addressed as well why these
prevent the pre mentioned harmful situations and how we can use them.
Using these techniques direct, delegate and distract to help someone get out of a bad situation
made me feel happy to be able to make a difference in someone else s life because of the possible
outcomes that could have happened if I did not help. Also, these techniques made me feel safer
in a party setting in that if I m aware and actively using it to help others, it is likely that others are
doing the same. Although I usually do not find myself in a setting that these would be particularly
useful, I feel like I would be of good help if I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Gender And Ethnic Difference In Education
How do we ensure that all children learn at the same level? How do we overcome learning
differences in gender and in ethnicity? These are the million dollar questions in most schools and
if ever a clear cut reason and/or answer could be discovered, it would ensure that inequity would be
lessened and my job as an educator would be a bit easier.
Gender and ethnic differences in education are two of the most frustrating obstacles that teachers
and administrators of any school face in the continual struggle to ensure that all children reach the
highest level of learning and understanding possible. We are constantly looking at data, searching
for interventions that get positive results, and changing our teaching to meet the needs of our
children. But, as described in chapter 13, it is almost impossible to combat the differences
because we don t know exactly why the differences exist. The biggest reason we can t pinpoint
the exact reasons is because of the difficulty of isolating factors without other factors having an
effect. In fact, even the experts don t agree on the reasons and for both areas of concern there are
multiple theories and beliefs and each of them have pros and cons for buying into their system. I
think after reading chapter 13, I am even more frustrated because I was hoping that it might contain
some clearer answers to help me in combatting these identified deficits in our school.
I was not surprised by any of the statistics regarding gender

The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea By Yukio Mishima
How does Yukio Mishima portray Glory
The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with The Sea is a story about a 13 year old boy, Noboru who had
lost his father 5 years ago. His mother, Fusako owns a luxurious clothing store and lives a lonely
life as a widow. Noboru is part of a gang that is led by another 13 year old boy called The Chief .
Instead of referring to one another by their names, in the gang, every member is referred to as
Number One, Number Two and so forth. Noboru and the gang participates in horrible acts such
as dissecting and dismembering a cat. Everyone in the gang are nihilists, they believe they are the
wisest of all and that they are incorruptible. Led by The Chief, who grew up not having good
relationships with his parents and spent his time reading old books in his library, the gang are firm
believers of tradition and follows the Bushido code, the ways of the Samurai. The story continues
with Fusako meeting a sailor, Ryuji and they both fall in love.
Ryuji is first presented as a simple man whom also have strong traditional beliefs. However, he
has been influenced by Japan s westernization to change his social status and keep up with the
rapidly influenced Japanese society. Ryuji is a person who is pleased with his physicality,
however his personality is depicted by Mishima as unsociable and eccentric [pg 15]. This is done
by Mishima to make us feel sympathetic towards Ryuji because his loneliness makes him seem
weaker although he is presented as a

Kurt Cobain was born on February 20th, 1967, in Hoquiam, Washington. He grew up in the
small logging community of Aberdeen. His father, Donald, was a mechanic and his mother,
Wendy, was a waitress and a housewife. At an early age, he started showing a big interest in
music. At four, Cobain began playing piano and singing, he then wrote a song about taking a trip
to the local park, he then gravitated to classic rock. (1) When he was eight, his parents divorced, he
lived with his dad, on weekends, he visited is motherand sister. Once his father remarried Kurt

the day, he had agreed to undergo a detox program. He arrived at the Exodus Recovery Center in
Los Angeles, California on March 30, 1994. The staff at the facility were unaware of his history
of depression and prior attempts at suicide. When visited by friends, there was no indication to
them that he was in any negative or suicidal state of mind. He spent the day talking to counselors
about his drug abuse and personal problems, happily playing with his daughter Frances. These
interactions were the last time Cobain saw his daughter. Kurt went outside to smoke a cigarette
the following night, he climbed over a 6 foot fence and escaped the facility. He caught a cab
back to Los Angeles and flew back to Seattle. On the flight, he sat next to Duff Mckagan of Guns
N Roses. Despite Kurt s own personal animosity towards Guns N Roses, Kurt seemed happy
according to Duff Mckagan. Most of his close family and friends didn t know Kurt s whereabouts.
On April 2 and 3, Kurt was spotted in numerous locations around Seattle. On April 3, Courtney

We Must Make Real Organic Goods
In today s fast moving world it is difficult to keep up with nutrition with early wake up calls and
late night shifts at work. It is really hard to fit a nice healthy meal in between, and finally, when
we get home, we come to the fridge, only to find sugar, high carbohydrate foods, and yummy
scrumptious fat in the fridge. There is nothing like comfort food right? Well, in the U.S their
thousands of organic food stores calming to have better and healthy vegetables, products and
medicine that will detoxify you. However, farmers globally make up only one percent of organic
agricultural land, although with more practices being done in the U.S the percentage globally
would go from one to one point seven percent if you counted all the organic farmers in the U.S.
Due to the low real organic foodsupply and the majority being convectional it is lugubrious to say
that one cannot become detoxed and, if you thought so before doctors are claiming it is
impossible. In order to make real organic goods, we should practice our own organic farmingin
inner cities, and find new and better farming techniques to help the earth. This would also help the
local farmers and the environment.
Like in most inner cities, it s sometimes difficult to catch the bus let alone a good healthy
breakfast the most important meal of the day, but of course, if you are on the run you could
always get a doughnut and processed gas station foods or a quick bite at the diner, but who really

Greenleaf by Flannery O Connor Essay
Greenleaf by Flannery O Connor
In her story, Greenleaf , the author Flannery O Conner shows us that people can sometimes blind
their factual vision of the world through a mask of dreams, so that they would not be able to
make a distinction between reality and their dreams of reality. O Conner unveils this through the
use of point of view , character, irony, and symbol. Being told through the limited omniscient
point of view, this story takes place on a dairy farm, which was the only thing left to Mrs. May
when her husband died. Mrs. May is a strong willed mother of two, who has many dreams and
goals. She is barely making ends meet , as quoted from the story, through her dairy farm selling her
milk. She lives at the farm, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neither of the boys were married, but Scofield would tease Mrs. May by saying that when she died
he would get married to a nice fat girl like Mrs. Greenleaf that would take over the farm. So upon
hearing this, Mrs. May changed her will so that if the boys married they cold not leave the farm to
their wives.
Now Mrs. Greenleaf was a fat, dirty woman who did not take care of care of her family nor her
house. She was one of the neighbors close by and the wife of her employee, Mr. Greenleaf. Mrs.
Greenleaf would spend all of her time doing prayer healing . That is, taking clippings of bad
stories out of the paper and burring them in the woods. She would then do some ritual over them.
Her husband worked for Mrs. May and was always had to be told more than once to do something
before he would actually do it.
The conflicts of this story was mostly man vs man and man vs nature. Throughout most of the
story there is a bull roaming around the farm eating the shrubbery and taunting the animals. Later
in the story we discover that the owner of the bull is actually the Greenleafs boys, O.T. and E.T.,
who lives at a nice farm that was partially provided by the government because they were
sergeants in the army. They let the bull go because it smashed up their truck and then ran away.
Mrs. May tries to get O.T. and E.T. to come pick up their bull, but they never show.

Igor Ansoff was a Russian/American mathematician who applied his work to the world of
business. His most famous work is the Ansoff Matrix. The purpose of this matrix is to help
managers consider how to grow their business through existing or new products or in existing or
new markets. By using this Matrix,he was helping managers to assess the differing degrees of risk
associated with moving their organisation forward.
Marketing strategies
Ansoff s Matrix suggests 4 alternative marketing strategies which hinge on whether products are
new or existing. They also focus on whether a market is new or existing. Within each strategy
there is a differing level of risk. The four strategies are such as:
1. Market penetration This involves increasing market share within existing market segments. This
can be achieved by selling more products/services to established customers or by finding new
customers within existing markets.
2. Product development This involves developing new products for existing markets. Product
development involves thinking about how new products can meet customer needs more closely and
outperform the products of competitors.
3. Market development This strategy entails finding new markets for existing products. Market
research and further segmentation of markets helps to

Background Information: According to Steven S. Zumdahl and Donald J. DeCoste (Introductory

anions are transferred. A precipitation reaction takes place when two aqueous solutions dissolve
in water, and a solid forms between one of the cations and one of the anions (Zumdahl/Donald

production, transfer of electrons, or the formation of water. All of these types of evidence occurred

Zumdahl and Donald J. DeCoste (Introductory Chemistry: A Foundation), two ionic compounds
are placed in water and react and form two new compounds. There is evidence of a double
replacement reaction when a precipitate will form when a reaction occurs. There could also be a
change in color, temperature, and possibly gaseous productions. Most commonly, there will be a
color change and formation of a precipitate. During this lab, many chemicals will be involved that
are not meant to contact skin or eyes. They can burn, sting, or irritate the skin. In order to prevent
this, we must wear safety goggles throughout the entire procedure and be careful while dealing

Rise Of Organized Crime
Organized crime is an outcome of prohibition in the United States at the beginning of the 20th
century. The government was trying to uphold the Volstead Act of 1920, but bootlegging rings
continued to grow nationally as well as internationally. The Wickersham Commission of 1930 led
to a crackdown on political corruption and began a repetitive prohibition period in which organized
crimeleaders had a new way to commit crimes and come up with a profit in the end. In the 1930 s
Lucku Luciano and Louis Leoke Buchalter created a crime group they called the Syndicate which
was made up of criminals all across the country and punished anyone who violated their ways.

Of course, there are the major gangs like the Crips and the Bloods, but gang violence and activity
is a problem in the United States today. Back in 2005, the Department of Justice said there were
at least 21,500 gangs and more than 731,000 active gang members. Gangs are more popular in
cities than rural areas, but gang violence is said to be the cause of half of all homicides. So if it
was 731,000 11 years ago, I am sure the number has risen since then and will continue to grow if
the U.S. does not find a way to contain it. I think gang activity is something that law
enforcement does not spend enough time addressing. I live about 30 minutes from Washington,
D.C. and I know there is gang activity there, but I never hear anything about it. A local area
called Manassas has a gang called MS13, a mainly Hispanic gang and I never hear anything
about it. I think there are so many other things going on in the world that gang activity tends to
be overlooked. If we want gang activity to lower we have to stop young people from continuing
to join gangs. Gang members describe gangs as a family, and to youth that is lacking a home
environment, it may seem like the right path for them to take. Parents have to be more in their
kid s lives and business to lower the chances of gangs continuing to grow. Having interactive

In the recent years, TRI is extensively studied as a potential anticancer candidate which
demonstrated activity against different cancer cell lines including, non small cell lung cancer
A549cells6 human prostate cancer7, melanoma 8 breast cancer MCF 7cell 9 and pancreatic
cancer cells 10. However, the clinical use of TRI is hampered by its low aqueous solubility
(13.25В±0.83 Вµg/mL at 37В°C) and poor intestinal absorption which lead to its low oral
bioavailability. All these obstacles make the oral route not the best one for TRI administration;
therefore switch to another route of administration seems to be a promising approach.
Among different novel drug delivery systems, phytosomes are well known as biocompatible
nanocarriers that have been used to improve solubility and permeability of different
phytopharmaceuticals. They are considered as self assembled nanocarriers that based on
phospholipid complexation approach. This type of complexation involved formation of hydrogen
bonding between the polar head of phospholipid and the drug polar moieties. Such bonding imparts
phytosomes superior stability profile than other vesicular phospholipid based systems like
liposomes. Additionally, phospholipids can promote drug permeation through buccal mucosa by
virtue of their solubilizing action as well as their essential role in maintaining cell membrane
fluidity. However, up to our knowledge, no study has

Sweatshirt And T-Shirt Essay
For this experiment, our hypothesis was that if we used sweatshirt fabric, then it will cause the UV
bead to have the lightest color, opposed to having fabric from the middle part of a hat, and t shirt
fabric.
The control date remained the same throughout the experiment. Each indicator bead stayed at 5 on
the UV color guide. The experimental data varied. The beads that were under the sweatshirt and
the t shirt fabric had a 2 on the UV color guide, while the hat fabric had a 1. First, I said that the
sweatshirt fabric would make the bead have the lowest number on the UV color guide. I was
wrong because the sweatshirt fabric scored a 2. Next, my hypothesis said that the t shirt fabric
would cause the bead to have a darker color than the sweatshirt fabric. That was incorrect because
the t shirt also scored a 2, just like the sweatshirt. Furthermore, my hypothesis also stated that the
hat would make the bead have a darker color. That wasn t right because the hat made the bead
have the lightest color, which was a 1 on the UV color guide. ... Show more content on

material will cause less light to get to a UV bead, and if I have more trials, the outcome will be
more accurate. Also I think if the light is higher up (let s say 2 feet) it will mimic the amount of
strength the light has on the bead. The follow up experiment would again, answer the problem
which was seeing which type of fabric provides the best protection, except completely eliminating a
type of fabric to experiment with, and swapping out the thinner sweatshirt fabric for a thicker

Characteristics Of Saturated Fats
Saturated fats include nuts, and in a recent study not only were nuts a good source of saturated
fat, but they were also proven to improve lipid profile of inflammatory biomarkers. Participants
from cohort studies has high risk for cardiac disease, but those who had a higher consumption of
nuts and exercised consistently were more likely to have lower c reactive protein and IL 6
concentrations (5). They ate higher amount of nuts because they replaced red meats, processed
meats, and refined grains with nuts. This reduced their risk of getting heart disease because their
overall state of inflammation was reduced, and chronic low grade inflammation is known for being
a culprit in all phases of atherosclerosis. The studies strengths were that... Show more content on

There was another study that studied if a Mediterranean diet could decrease inflammation and
improve one s heart health. In this study, inflammation caused by diet and telomere length were
evaluated with those who have a high risk of heart disease. With the use of the dietary
inflammatory index, they looked to see the association between diet related inflammation and
telomere length. Telomere length affects how our cells age, and if they shorten, then it will shorten
one s life as well as makine one more susceptible to disease. This study was a cross sectional and
longitudinal study that resulted in a consistent beneficial effect with aging and health when
consuming a anti inflammatory diet (7). The beneficial effects were that it changed their telomere
length. Anti inflammatory diets they included were Mediterranean diets supplemented with olive
oil, and Mediterranean diets supplemented with mixed nuts. The control group was on a low fat
diet. This study also showed that a proinflammatory diet can affect a person telomere length by
drastically shortening it (7). More specifically, proinflammatory foods include fried foods, refined
carbohydrates, and sugar and anti inflammatory foods include vegetables like kale/spinach, fruits
like tomatoes/blueberries, fatty fish, and nuts.
Unlike with inflammation, there are more diets proven to improve hypertension. In this specific
study 3 different diets were given to participants who had hypertension and

The Miracle Kidz Is Nonprofit Organization Based On The...
Introduction:
A community is a social unit of any size that shares common values, or that is situated in a given
geographical area (e.g. a village or town). It is a group of people who are connected by durable
relations that extend beyond immediate genealogical ties, and who usually define that relationship
as important to their social identity and practice.
A safe house is, in a generic sense, a secret place for sanctuary or suitable to hide persons from the
law, hostile actors or actions, or from retribution, threats or perceived danger.
Miracle Kidz is nonprofit organization based in the community of Constantia, and they act as a safe
house for abandoned, abused and neglected children over the Western Cape. They focus on children
suffering from Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder(FASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder(ADHD), drug babies and have recently added cerebral palsy syndrome.
Description of the community:
Constantia is an affluent suburb of Cape Town, South Africa, situated about 15 kilometers south of
the centre of Cape Town. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious suburbs in South Africa.
The Constantia Valley lies to the east of and at the foot of the Constatiberg mountain. Constantia

The Book Catherine of Aragon written by Garrett Mattingly is about the life of Catherine of
Aragon, the princess of Spain during the late 1400 s and early 1500 s. The book begins with
Catherine s life as a small child, before she became Queen. The first section of the book talks of
Catherine s upbringing as a princess and includes details on the duties of her and her siblings. A
good example of this is described on page 17 as it shows how Catherine and her sisters had to be
educated on their bloodline, heraldry and genealogy as well as dancing, cooking, and
horsemanship which were the interests of her class) . In 1501, Catherine is sent to England to

Mattingly got his sources from. The author used primary documents throughout the book as well
as transcripts from the Public Record Office. There are some parts of the book that are

pointless to put that in the book because it does not really do much for the reader. It does not paint

leaves the reader wondering whether or not it really happened or whether the narrator is saying

about the way Ferdinand is ruling or about acquaintances of Catherine and Henry in long lengths. If

Fluconazole
Background/History
Fluconazole is a white, hygroscopic, crystalline powder, and is an orally active bistriazole
antifungal agent.1 The discovery of fluconazole was a milestone in the pharmaceutical industry
because it was the first antifungal drug that could be used both orally for minor infections, and
intravenously for serious systemic infections. The development and use of antifungals continues to
become more of a necessity as the need for protecting immunosuppressed and HIV patients from
developing fungal infections increases.2
Although fungal thrush was recorded to be a fatal disease as early as the 1600s, the development
of antifungals did start until the 1900s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These turning points led to the formation of several bis triazoles. The first was a chloroacetyl
derivative, which was reacted with 1,2,4 triazol to yield a ketone, which was then converted to an
epoxide and then opened, resulting in the first bis triazole derivative. The second approach
required converting dichloroacetone to dichloropropanol derivative and reacting it with 1,2,4
triazole, which produced the second bis triazole. These bis triazoles were then synthesized in a
large number of 2 substituted 1,3 bis triazolylpropan 2 ol derivatives. Out of the tested derivatives,
it was found that the 2,4 difluorophenyl analogue was water soluble, meaning it was could be used

Comparison Of Racism In American History X And Romper Stero
American History X, directed by Tony Kaye, and Romper Stomper, directed by Geoffrey Wright,
share similar themes, of racism/ extremism, violence and the influence of idols/ gangs on the
impressionable. In both films, the outsiders (Mexicans and Asian immigrants) are terrorised and
beaten by Neo Nazi Skinheadgangs in America (Los Angeles) and Australia (Melbourne). Both
texts are also set in a similar timeframe, this being the 80 s/ 90 s, reflecting the social issues of the
era.
Racism and extremism are depicted clearly in both American History X and Romper Stomper,
accentuated through violent and hateful dialogue. Flashbacks are clearly used to establish the
creation and reason for these racist thoughts and extremist behaviour in American History X.
These flashbacks are shown in black and white, symbolising the state of mind the antagonist
(Derek) was in. He is presented as narrow minded, at the height of his ideology and can only see
things in right or wrong, black or white. Once Derek realises and loathes his wrongs, he sees in
colour, a clever use of film techniques used by Kaye. The violence portrayed in both films is also
similar in the way that the Neo Nazi gangs of LA and Melbourne terrorise minorities and believe
that Mexican (American History X) and Vietnamese (Romper Stomper) immigrants are swarming
into their western suburbs, buying up local businesses and crowding out the established residents.
This is shown clearly at 35:00 40:19 in American History X and

Coming Of Age And Adolescence In The 21st Century
INTRODUCTION
The Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential identifies that the current lack of rites
of passage in modern, industrialised socities is a global problem, resulting in a serious
breakdown in the process of maturing (Grimes 2000) for adolescents moving from childhood to
adulthood, specifically. To move through adolescence in the modern, Western world is a highly
individualised experience, meaning that it differs between each individual person and also that it
is a largely solitary process; coming of age in the 21st century means learning to stand alone as a
self sufficient person (Arnett, 1998) who is independently responsible for their own guidance and
decision making among a wide range of possibilities (Arnett, ... Show more content on

It is said that high school graduation ceremonies most closely resemble the structure and function
of a more traditional rites of passage ceremony in the modern world. However, the high school
graduation ceremony does not prepare or initiate youth with the practical skills or discernments
necessary to proceed successfully in living outside of the home (Hamitlon Hamilton, 2008); it is a
superficial event that publically acknowledges a youth s supposed maturing but neglects to
include, generally, any of the practical work of identity building that was a central facet of
traditional ceremonies. High school graduation ceremonies serve only to signify an academic
success or a coming of age, but the popular notion that maturity means to be academically
successful or to reach a particular age alone misses the most important part of the process, which is

Water Quality
Summary:
In this experiment, different methods for cleaning water were used to see how they affected the
water quality. The hypothesis was that boiling water and then pouring it through a carbon sac
would clean the pond water effectively. This is because when the water is boiled, it kills most
bacteria and evaporates chlorine. Then the carbon filter would clear out the suspended matter and
some chemicals such as nitrate. The hypothesis was correct in that most of the measurement
categories except for turbidity because the carbon sac accidentally made the water turn black ish. A
source of error was that the 225 ml sample had to be split into three containers but it was not split.
This was fixed by splitting the remaining water into two containers and then running it through the
procedure again and measuring that. In the end, the method was good for cleaning water but could
not instantly make dirty pond water drinkable.
Introduction
The objective is to see how boiling water and then pouring it through a carbon sac will improve
water quality. This method of cleaning water will be the most effective because boiling kills
chlorine but has no effect on suspended matter. However, the carbon

The Characters Of The Indigenous People In Mexico, By...
Cabeza de Vaca has an interest in depicting the indigenous people he encounters in a certain
manner. The perception that the indigenous people of the Americas were naturally subordinate,
immoral, and resourceful was vital to the Spanish colonial conquest. It allowed them to indulge in
their quest for empire under the guise of trying to bring the indigenous into their society.
Truthfully, it was a way for the Spanish to practice their racism and cruelty. Cabeza de Vaca subtly
communicates a portrayal of the indigenous that depicts them just as the Spanish empire wanted
them to be, while at the same time positioning himself as their superior, therefore solidifying
Cabeza de Vaca as a leadership figure who s experience in dealing with the indigenous and
landscapes was invaluable to the Spanish s goals. The passage begins with the words And to
console them... , a phrase suggesting that Spanish presence in the Americasis bringing great grief to
the indigenous, due to how it is causing divides amongst the indigenous, as well as how it creates
a justification for the raiding that takes place through an exchange. The Spanish and their allies
receive the indigenous goods, while in return the get a measly consolation of words, which in this
case are supposed to be the most sound advice possible. It is immediately followed by the robbers

The water level (observed) and water level (simulated) water levels and the variation over time
were graphed below in figure 5.
Figure 5 Predicted vs. experimental h comparison
The data shown in figure 5 demonstrates the adequacy of the Level Pool Routing approximation.
The two water levels run very closely with very little error. The difference between the two can be
attributed to human error when reading the observed times during the experiment.
Conclusion and Recommendations:
A level pool routing experiment was carried out to determine the adequacy of results obtained
through simulated flood routing. The experiment yielded experimental results from which
calculations of inflow; storage and discharge over a weir were obtained. The Energy Grade line
from the tank to the pipe outlet was observed as well as the relationship between the tank discharge
to the square root of height. Noted from this was that height was the driving force of flow from the
tank.
Following, a Puls flood routing method was used to simulate the event again with theoretical
values. The relationship between discharge and discharge with storage over time was obtained and
used to calculate theoretical values of discharge and water Level. These were compared with
experimental results and a strong correlation was observed.
Reservoir routing yielded reliable results which

Analysis Of Ursula Le Guin s The Left Hand Of Darkness
Science fiction is not predictive; it is descriptive, Ursula Le Guin wrote this in her introduction to
her book The Left Hand of Darkness (Le Guin 14). In the introduction, Le Guin writes a section
about science fiction and other fiction and how they are the same because they all have the same
purpose and that is to lie. However, when Le Guin writes about lying she doesn t mean the sky is
orange, no, what she means is authors, herself included, created stories, characters, and settings for
readers. They create these unbelievable worlds and the readers use their imagination to create the
characters and settings in their minds. Readers of fictional stories use their imagination to find the
truth in these false stories or as Le Guin phrased it, the truth is a matter of imagination, (Le Guin
16). Le Guin uses lies throughout her story The Left Hand of Darknessto express metaphors and
through these lies, the reader uses their imagination to find the truth.
One of the most obvious lies would be the time of the story. Even though in the beginning Le
Guin said it was Ekumenical year 1490 1497 however that was not the case (Guin 1). Le Guin
made up a time period and the world for the reader to imagine when in reality she was truly
meaning the story to take place in the present. She even admits her lie in her introduction, this book
is not about the future, (Le Guin 15). Le Guin lies about the time of the story because then anyone
could relate to The Left Hand of Darkness.

Montessori Cultural Competence
Cultural competence methods involved materials related to the arts, science, and social science.
Montessori cultural activities have an important language component. Teaching different cultures to
children are important. It helps them to have an appreciation for other nationalities, cultural
backgrounds, spiritual beliefs, languages, and act. Dr. Maria Montessori would create classrooms
that were filled with many different objects that are associated with other parts of the country. Each
student will take part of the activity that involves the paths of culture. As children learn different
aspects of culture this allows the children to understand how each culture differs and hopefully
become a participating and contributing member of society. Montessori education for young
children helps to increase their independency to adult hood. Children are allowed to learn at their
own pace, rather than learn at another child pace. This learningconcept helps to develop long term
experiences that the child will carry on into adulthood. It focusses on less dependency on a
teacher for guidance. It allows a child to make decisions based on their way of learning. The
teachers are present during the learning phases. However, the child is responsible to think strategic
and come to realistic conclusions. In return, the child will succeed because the child is learning at
his/her own pace. Lev Vygotskywas a Russian psychologist that believed that playwas made up of

Tom Ister The British Empire once governed one quarter of the global population during its prime,
but Britain s industrial power and influence over the world would not have been possible if not for
Queen Elizabeth the first. Queen Elizabeth transformed England and made it into the powerful,
dominant global superpower it is today. She inherited a torn land, England was in dept, and tensions
were rising between Catholic and Protestant citizens as England at the time had two extremely

Queen Elizabeth s rule helped turn England from a weak, divided nation which was far outside
the mainstream of European power and cultural development to the dominant world superpower
it is today. This was due in part to the expansion of the arts, as it unified the people of England by
providing a cultural identity. Queen Elizabeth was a patron for the arts, she provided the means
for which arts could create iconic works, she also had a lenient attitude towards religious dogma
compared to her predecessors, which allowed for more creative freedom for the artists she
sponsored. The arts grew during her reign as the likes of: Shakespeare, Spenser and Marlowe
created poetry and drama, and composers like Byrd and Tallis worked in her court. She provided
the means for the artists to work, and prosper. England is said to have experienced a renaissance

Examples Of Lexical Cohesion
This paper tackles how cohesion can be effective to make the text more united. Both cohesive
devices; lexical and grammatical, have a powerful role in giving the text texture. Lexical devices are
repetition, antonyms, synonyms, and general words. On the other hand, grammatical devices are
reference, conjunction, and ellipsis. Both of them provide the text harmony and meaning.
Lexical Cohesion Lexical cohesion occurs when two words are semantically related to each other
such as, repetition, synonyms, antonyms, general words, and superordinate. Firstly, repetition
occurs when one word is mentioned more than one time throughout the text. To illustrate, the word
and is repeated about 22 times in the text , the word her is repeated around 15 times in paragraphs
number 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13, the morpheme mother is repeated 5 times in paragraphs number 1,
8, and 14, the pronoun I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, conjunctions link between clauses and sentences. They signal the way the writer wants
the reader to relate the sentence to what have been said or what is going to be said throughout the
text. Conjunctions have many types such as, additive, causal, adversative, and temporal. Additive
conjunctions, also in paragraph number 6, or in paragraph number 3, and in paragraphs number 4, 7,
10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, are used when the writer wants to add more information to his idea. Causal
conjunctions like, in order to in paragraph number 7, so in paragraph number 8, 9, and 14, and
because in paragraph number 14, are used to tell a reason or a result. Adversative conjunctions like,
but in paragraph 8, and although in paragraph number 11, are used to confirm opposite ideas.
Temporal conjunction like, since in paragraph number 9, is used to confirm

Frameworks In Greenwashing
Businesses are facing increasing pressures from both internal and external stakeholders to be
accountable and transparent, and to disclose the social, environmental and economic impacts of
their activities through sustainability reporting (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013).
Accordingly, there has been an increase in organisations claiming their voluntary commitment to
the international standards and frameworks for corporate sustainabilitynamely, the United Nations
Global Compact (UNGC) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) s sustainability reporting
guidelines (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). According to Benn, Dunphy

This is not to say that frameworks such as the GRI do not endorse improvements in business
reporting and accountability (Milne Gray 2013). Rather, it is the fact that the adoption of these
frameworks solely relies on the voluntary commitment by businesses that reduces its effectiveness
(Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). This same issue also extends to companies
codes of conduct and certification schemes.
Elsewhere, the introduction of the new IR framework by the IIRC (International Integrated
Reporting Council) has been suggested to be a paradigm shift in the way corporations report their
activities to stakeholders (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013). Until now, business
reports primarily focused on TBL (Triple Bottom Line) reporting of economic, social and
environmental impacts (Adams 2013). While some corporations have demonstrated a willingness
to achieve higher standards of performance in corporate sustainability in line with international

Diego Rivera s Passion For Art
Diego Rivera was born on December 8, 1886, in Guanajuato, Mexico. At the age of three years
Rivera began drawing on his walls at home and his parents saw this and instead of punishing him
for drawing on the walls they nurtured his creativity. Rivera made art that portrayed the lives of
working class Mexican people. Rivera s passion for art began from a young age. Around 10 old
years he went on to study art at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts in Mexico City where he
received training modeled on conservative European academies. Later in his life he traveled to
Europe to continue his art studies where he friended many famous artists such as Pablo Picasso. In
Spain, Rivera studied the work of El Greco, Velazquez, Goya, and the Flemish masters

Cranberries Research Paper
Cranberry Production in Canada Cranberries are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs and they are
small, red, acidic berries that are used in often used in cooking. Cranberries overall have many
health benefits as it is most effective for tract infections as it inhibits bacteria from attaching to
the bladder and overall contain many antioxidants. Many believe cranberries grow under water
as they are seen in commercials to be floating on water but what we are seeing is the result of
wet harvesting. The bogs are flooded with up to 18 inches of water and the workers churn the
water to loosen the cranberries from their vines. Bogs are where cranberries come from, they are a
soft ground with acid peat soil where the cranberries grow on long vines.

Being intrigued by the subject, I used the very concept to design a system as part of this project
that acts a platform to receive messages which in fact are commands sent to control different
appliances and devices connected to the platform. As my project, I designed a control system
based on the GSM technology that effectively allowed control from a remote area to the desired
location. The application of the suggested system is immense in the ever changing technological
world as it allows a greater degree of freedom to an individual while controlling the household
appliances or office equipment and eliminates the need of actual presence of individual. 1.4 This
desired system had to be a powerful and flexible tool offering the service at any time, and from
anywhere with the constraints of the technologies being applied. The possible target appliances that
can be attached to the system includes climate control system, security systems, lights and any
other thing with an electrical interface. The proposed approach for designing this system was to
implement a microcontroller based control module that received its instructions and command from
a cellular phone over the GSM network. The microcontroller then would carry out the issued
commands and communicate the status of a given appliance or device back to the cellular phone.

The Man In The High Castle Analysis
Human Reliance on Outside Forces
We live in the world our questions create (David Cooperrider). Inquiry is the base of society, all
answers come from questions that were once asked. Questioning can influence people s decisions
to act in certain ways and determine how they live, and people s lives change the world. The Man
in the High Castle, written by Philip K Dick, follows a full cast of characters from an endangered
Jewish man named Frank Frink to a high up Japanese man named Mr. Tagomi. The book takes
place in a world after World War Two, but one very different from present time, a world where
Germany and Japan, along with the other Axis powers, won the war. The planet is overcome
with racism and distrust. Jewish people are killed every day and the ones still alive are forced
into hiding and change their names. Both men live very different lives, Frink is in hiding as a Jew
while Tagomi is a wealthy antique seller. The one thing they have in common is the I Ching, a
highly regarded oracle of sorts. It predicts the future and provides advice along with it; and
everyone follows that advice no matter what they are told. They do this partially because after
the Axis powers won the war, every person was required to have an I Ching in their home. This
caused the residents to become reliant on the oracle for their every need. The I Ching provides
advice in the form of special hexagrams which have a corresponding prophecy of sorts. In The
Man in the High Castle Philip K.

The Extinction Of Homelessness Essay
The Extinction of Homelessness
As 2016 has begun to come to an end. Most families in America are focusing on the presidential
election, planning year end events or even establishing resolutions for the new year. While the
invisible part of most cities population is faced with a pivotal decision. How will I survive a brutal
winter without proper housing? On the surface this may appear to be an uncomplicated matter, to
the casual eye, but it is genuinely a painstakingly complicated matter. Communities worldwide are
relentlessly attempting to deal with overwhelming amount of homeless citizen and trying to
decipher the possible causes, so that an effective long term remedy can be achieved. Possibly it is
the perfect moment to embrace a new fangled innovative way that will contribute to the
radicalization of this rapidly developing crisis. By taking a proactive approach it is possible to
terminate this deplorable situation.
Defining Homeless ness
Homelessness is defined in many ways. Most people have a different perspective on the
definition of homelessness. Based on U S Codes The general definition of homeless, homeless
individual, and homeless person mean (1) an individual or family who lack a fixed, regular, and
adequate nighttime residence, (2) an individual or family with a primary nighttime residence that

Bronfenbrenner s Bioecological Model Analysis
The television drama known as Grey s Anatomy follows several doctors on their joint and
individual journeys from surgical interns to residents and then to attendings. The main character
is Doctor Meredith Grey, the daughter of famous heart surgeon Ellis Grey. Meredith s time on the
show reveals her constant struggle to reconcile her own abilities with her mother s legacy and
explores how the past continues to affect the present long after its conclusion. Bronfenbrenner s
bioecological model explores the relationship between a child s environment and that child s
development. In his theory, Urie Bronfenbrenner defines several layers that make up the overall
system in which the child functions. These layers are known as the Microsystem, Mesosystem,
Exosystem, Macrosystem, and Chronosystem. Each of these layers plays a role in influencing the
development of the child as well as each other and the child, in turn, has an impact on these layers.
This process is referred to as a bi directional influence. The actions of the parent affect the behavior
and beliefs of the child while the behavior of the child affects... Show more content on

For a child, this usually means their family, school, daycare, and neighborhood. Meredith Grey s
microsystem remains virtually the same from childhood to adulthood. During her childhood,
Meredith spent as much time at her mother s place of work, Seattle Grace Hospital, as she did
with her parents. As an adult, Meredith works in the same hospital and spends just as much time
there, if not more, as she does at home. On a day to day basis, Meredith interacts with many of
the same people she interacted with daily as a child. These people include her mother, Richard
Webber, Meredith s current Chief of Surgery who was her mother s friend, and even nurses,
doctors, and other staff members who worked directly alongside her

Defining Art Essay
As an artist I constantly find myself bombarded with the question of What is exactly art?
Normally I m a person who can answer any question with ease, but this one caught me off guard.
So I began thinking to myself what is exactly art? I didn t really have an answer to that right away.
So after more thoughtI realized that art is anything you want it to be. Art isn t merely a drawing
or a painting. Art is how you express yourself when words aren t enough. Art can be a memory
caught in time. Art can be the sounds or lyrics you hear of everyday music. I finally realized to me
art was an expressionand a whole other language. Art is creating something to become attached to.
Art is the company that keeps you inspired and constantly striving... Show more content on

Anything means seeing the shapes of clouds that look like that beautiful landscape you saw
earlier that day. It can also be that old incomplete painting half covered by that tarp that you ve
always meant to finish. The point is that you get across what you need to say. It doesn t matter
how it looks like. There s no such thing as good or bad art. It s just what you want your viewer to
understand or see from the picture. It s anything that expresses your feelings or imagination. Art
is breathing life into something you create. It s like your child that you cradle in your arms and
to nurse it to life. To create a body, to give it flesh and bone and breathe life into its shadowed
eyes and form a personality through expression, this cannot be done from nothing. It s created
from the very paint of your soul, the material expression of your feelings. It s derived from the very
being of you. You are the God of your own work; you gave it a beating heart. It helps you purge the
soul of your feeling all the bad and good. It can create a lovely piece of art or something dark and
terrible depicting. Art has numerous purposes to many people. Some use it as a hobby to
experiment with media. Others have a way of using it for commercial purposes. Back in the day
it was used to tell a story. To some it s a form of entertainment. It s to make people happy and put
a smile on faces. To others

The Shia Branch
Last but not least is a religion that has about one point five billion followers and is the purest of
the western monotheisms, Islam. Most of the people who follow Islam are located in Indonesia.
The meaning of Islam stands for submission, in Islam people are too submit themselves to God.
Islam is monotheistic because they believe in one God, which Allah is believed to be the God
while a man named Muhammadis Gods prophet. Muhammad was known to spread the message
of monotheism while many people were still polytheistic. He fled to to a city called Medina to
escape persecution. This was a huge event for the religion and was the start of the first year of the
Islamic calendar. Similar to Christianity, Islamhas a very important scripture that... Show more

What I mean when I say totally different is that the Sunni branch is more optimistic while the Shia
branch leans more towards pessimism. The Sunni branch is the largest and it takes up about eighty
five percent of Muslims leaving the Shia branch with only fifteen percent. The main issue of the
branches is that they didn t both agree on who should lead the community after Muhammad passed.
The Sunni branch believed it should have been a group decision on who takes charge next, while
the Shia did not agree with that and they thought that it should have went to Muhammad s cousin,
Ali. The Shia is also all about free will and symbolism rather than determinism and literal attributes
like Sunni. Its hard to believe groups like Al Qaeda that committed the nine eleven terrorism
attacks are apart of the Sunni branch and not the Shia since we consider these attacks harshly
negative and definitely not positive. Not all Muslims are terrorists though, that was just one
example of the two different branches of Islam that I discussed. Above are the most important
factors that influence the religion of Islam and the way of life of the Muslim

Analysis Of Where The Red Fern Grows
Cherish these moments tomorrow they ll be memories ,pinterest said and has a deep meaning to
the story Where the Red Fern Grows. In the story Where the Red Fern Grows the theme is to
cherish those close to you before it s too late. The story is also a good lesson to learn because
you never know when someone vital to your life may die so cherish them while you have them.
This quote from pinterest fits the theme of the story because when Old Dan and Little Ann
almost died Billy felt like he should ve loved them more when they were alive. Without that time
in the story the story would be completely different. This is a wise quote because when Billy got
his dogs after working so hard to get them he knew that once he got the dogs he would remember
how he got his dogs forever. That was one of the most important parts in the story and without
them the story would be different. Since the part is in the story now the part makes a huge
impact on the book and that is why that supports my quote and theme. In the story there were
several moments that Billy would remember for the rest of his life . Billy had multiple lessons he
had learned through the course of his life so far, and there will still be many more lessons to
come. There are other pieces to this story that are important to the story. There is one part in the
story where Little Ann and Old Dan nearly died from the winter storm. Without that time in the
story the story would have changed dramatically. Who knows whether

Nursing Care
Introduction P.R. is a 34 year old male from Guatemala who went to a lake for cliff diving. He
dove off of a cliff 20 feet from the water, hitting a rock, and fractured his neck at C6. This left
P.R. as an incomplete quadriplegic, with partial gross movement of his upper arms. P.R. is able
to move his shoulders to slightly lift his arms, but has no movements in his legs or the trunk. P.R.
requires total assistance for all activities of daily living, and is incontinent of both bowel and
bladder function. He speaks primarily Spanish and cannot communicate in English. He is verbally
abusive and becomes combative with care givers. He does not have family support in America and
is having difficulty adapting to American foods. P.R. has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
is not receiving enough nutrients such as protein and vitamins that are crucial to wound healing,
which impedes healing of the pressure ulcers (Myers, 2012). Last but not least, he has sexual
dysfunction that can be detrimental to his psychosocial well being. He is physically unable to
achieve erection and orgasm. Appendix A is provided at the end of the paper to show an example
of nursing care plan for physiological issues.
Psychosocial Issues Spinal cord injury is a sudden and devastating event for patients. The injury can
be extremely debilitating and it may require a significant alteration in lifestyle post injury. P.R. has
sustained a relatively high level (C6) spinal cord injury, which makes him very limited functional
capacity. He will go through grieving process followed by anger for the loss of function and
independence. This may be especially difficult for P.R. because he is a young man in his thirties
who sustained a debilitating injury in a foreign country without any support from family and
friends. Spinal cord injury has left P.R. unable to move his entire lower extremities and trunk
muscles. He is unable to do the most basic activities, such as feeding and bowel movement without
the help of a caregiver. For a young man who was active and completely independent, it is very
difficult to accept this reality. It should also be noted that most of the nursing staff are females,
which further damages his male ego for having total dependence.

  • 2. The Importance Of Air Traffic Control Air traffic controllers have one of the most stressful jobs in the world. Many controllers at each airport individually control aircrafts at different stages of flight. For example, the stations include fight service, departure, approach, center, en route, clearance and delivery, ground, and tower. Every plane in the sky is under control of an air traffic operator. Each of these controllers is controlling multiple aircraft at once, and controllers have to time everything perfectly. At peak hours, just over 5,000 airplanes in the sky carry passengers around the world, and air traffic controllers have the job to keep thousands of people alive and safely land and take off the airplanes. With this thought on their minds, their jobs can become very stressful, especially with the amount of information they need to retain during the job. With the amount of different factors that cause stress in air traffic controllers, it can affect their job performances as well as make their jobs more challenging; therefore, they need to develop coping sources that help them deal with and reduce job related stress. High travel times, bad weather, emergencies, family issues, and language details are all contribute to major factors in air traffic controlstress. First, air traffic controllers deal with many airplanes throughout the day, especially during peak hours. During the peak traffic time, just over 5,000 airplanes are in the air. • 3. Learning and Stress 1. Describe how you can use operant conditioning principles to a) discontinue your undesired behavior and b) replace that behavior with the desirable behavior you identified. Since I was in middle school, I have always had the bad habit of biting my nails. In the past, I have attempted to stop. I have tried to get acrylic nails, but I just ended up biting those too. I even made it my New Year s resolution one year. So far, nothing has been successful. I would like to take this opportunity to try and stop biting my nails once and for all. I will reward my self by adding a dollar to my manicure fund for each day I am successful in not biting my nails. I will also plan to bring a stress ball to work and class. When I feel the urge to bite my nails, I will squeeze the stress ball instead. I will replace my nail biting habit with using the stress ball. During the first week, I earned 5 dollars. I slipped up and started to bite my nails during one of my classes. I didn t even realize I was doing it for about 5 minutes. I also slipped up another day while doing homework. I was successful in bringing my stress ball with me to class and work, but did not find myself using it too often. I think I need to make more of an effort to take it out when I am at my desk or in class. After 19 days, I have earned the $14 I need treat myself to a manicure. Although it took me longer than I had hoped for, I am very proud of myself for completing my first goal. Now, I hope to continue with the system and treat myself to another manicure in 2 weeks. Although I would not consider this a complete success, I have certainly improved on biting my nails less than I did before this exercise. 4. • 4. Essay The Death of Socrates The Death of Socrates Viewing the painting The Death of Socrates by Jacques Louis David, one can perceive many different subject matters, both literally and metaphorically. The obvious is seen within the setting of the painting. The clear illustration of where the event is happening provides the onlooker with a glimpse into a different time and era. Conversely, the artist has taken the liberty to hide deep meaning inside the work of art through less apparent means. Symbolism through art work has endured from early works to contemporized ones, here is no different. Taking the two aforementioned into consideration gives us a glimpse into both the symbolic and factual significance of the occasion. What we can term as the Roman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Given the body of a Greek god, Socrates seems far from frail and is bursting with strength and power. Furthermore, to give Socrates an air of wisdom, he was given a beard. The beard which is representative of knowledge and intelligence flows freely upon the great teacher as his time of execution approaches. While appearing to have the divinity of a god, Socrates is still painted with physical emotion. The duality of being godly and human at the same time may have been a recurring theme at the time this was painted. Not only looking at the mere representation of the figure who is Socrates, but by examining how he is situated among others in the painting also uncovers meaning in of itself. Studying the way that Socrates body is situated you can see that the artist is trying to make a statement of nobility in self sacrifice. The finger of Socrates is pointed upward and is in the highest position in the chamber. Much like a mountain commands the landscape, so does Socrates finger in a room full of disarray and uncertainty. This can also tells us that although ready to die and in his final hour, his teachings and beliefs will continue to live on. Although Socrates is on his deathbed he still continues to teach and philosophize. Something else that should be noted is the posture of Socrates. His back is completely erect with no support. • 5. Polytheism In Latin America Spain and Portugal successfully colonized South America during the 15th century and as a result exploited the land they conquered to their benefit. The Treaty of Tordesillas divided the region between the two great powers and allowed them to do what they wished with the land they controlled. Religious missionaries worked to convert the natives to the scripture of the Catholic Church while simultaneously enslaving them and claiming their resources as their own. The indigenous people were infuriated with the arrogance of their European conquerors and found inspiration from the United Statesof America and the French to lead a revolution of their own. The consequences of these series of uprisings and the basis for their desire to possess independence is still being witnessed in modern day Mexico, through the Zapatistas. The Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas were three prominent cultures in South America. • 6. The Benefits Of Assisted Living Assisted living has become the generic name for most senior living facilities. However, today these facilities come in many different sizes and levels of care. Early in history there were only two choices for seniors, they could age at home with family or they could enter a nursing home. Many seniors who couldn t completely live on their own and were still to some degree independent and able bodied did not need higher levels of care offered at nursing facilities; creating a need for different types of senior living. Assisted living became a more ideal lifestyle for seniors who wanted to age independently. Facilities have now begun to tailor their offerings to specific populations creating specialties with differing levels of care. With the U.S. population aging there is not only an increase in number of senior facilities but also their characteristics. As a result of the baby boom during 1946 to 1964 children comprised approximately one third of the U.S. population in 1970, and only one tenth of the population was 65 or older. Today, 40 million people in the United States are ages 65 and older, but this number is projected to more than double to 89 million by 2050 (Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, Mather, 2011). Coupled with the number of baby boomer reaching the age 65 is the fact that people are now living longer. In 1970 the average age was 70.8 years, in 2010 the average age was 78.3 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2011). However it doesn t necessary mean that since the average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the workshop, I learned how to assess challenging situations and determine how to safely intercede and still be protected from or not exposed to danger or risk implementing the 3Ds Direct, Distract, and Delegate. I also learned about Bystander Interventiona philosophy and strategy for prevention of various types of violence, including bullying, hazing, harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, discrimination, binge drinking, and mental health concerns. How these are of great importance was addressed as well why these prevent the pre mentioned harmful situations and how we can use them. Using these techniques direct, delegate and distract to help someone get out of a bad situation made me feel happy to be able to make a difference in someone else s life because of the possible outcomes that could have happened if I did not help. Also, these techniques made me feel safer in a party setting in that if I m aware and actively using it to help others, it is likely that others are doing the same. • 8. The Importance Of Gender And Ethnic Difference In Education How do we ensure that all children learn at the same level? How do we overcome learning differences in gender and in ethnicity? These are the million dollar questions in most schools and if ever a clear cut reason and/or answer could be discovered, it would ensure that inequity would be lessened and my job as an educator would be a bit easier. Gender and ethnic differences in education are two of the most frustrating obstacles that teachers and administrators of any school face in the continual struggle to ensure that all children reach the highest level of learning and understanding possible. We are constantly looking at data, searching for interventions that get positive results, and changing our teaching to meet the needs of our children. But, as described in chapter 13, it is almost impossible to combat the differences because we don t know exactly why the differences exist. The biggest reason we can t pinpoint the exact reasons is because of the difficulty of isolating factors without other factors having an effect. In fact, even the experts don t agree on the reasons and for both areas of concern there are multiple theories and beliefs and each of them have pros and cons for buying into their system. I think after reading chapter 13, I am even more frustrated because I was hoping that it might contain some clearer answers to help me in combatting these identified deficits in our school. So if it was 731,000 11 years ago, I am sure the number has risen since then and will continue to grow if the U.S. does not find a way to contain it. Compared to other transmucosal routes, buccal mucosa is approximately an immobile, highly accessible mucosa that characterized by wide area of smooth muscles1. Moreover, buccal drug delivery systems offer various advantages including the direct entry to the systemic circulation through the internal jugular vein avoiding first pass metabolism and the evasion of any possible enzymatic degradation or acid hydrolysis in the gastrointestinal tract1,2. However, the clinical use of TRI is hampered by its low aqueous solubility (13.25В±0.83 Вµg/mL at 37В°C) and poor intestinal absorption which lead to its low oral bioavailability. All these obstacles make the oral route not the best one for TRI administration; therefore switch to another route of administration seems to be a promising approach. Among different novel drug delivery systems, phytosomes are well known as biocompatible nanocarriers that have been used to improve solubility and permeability of different phytopharmaceuticals. They are considered as self assembled nanocarriers that based on phospholipid complexation approach. This type of complexation involved formation of hydrogen bonding between the polar head of phospholipid and the drug polar moieties. Such bonding imparts phytosomes superior stability profile than other vesicular phospholipid based systems like liposomes. Additionally, phospholipids can promote drug permeation through buccal mucosa by virtue of their solubilizing action as well as their essential role in maintaining cell membrane fluidity. Sweatshirt And T-Shirt Essay For this experiment, our hypothesis was that if we used sweatshirt fabric, then it will cause the UV bead to have the lightest color, opposed to having fabric from the middle part of a hat, and t shirt fabric. The control date remained the same throughout the experiment. Each indicator bead stayed at 5 on the UV color guide. The experimental data varied. The beads that were under the sweatshirt and the t shirt fabric had a 2 on the UV color guide, while the hat fabric had a 1. First, I said that the sweatshirt fabric would make the bead have the lowest number on the UV color guide. I was wrong because the sweatshirt fabric scored a 2. Next, my hypothesis said that the t shirt fabric would cause the bead to have a darker color than the sweatshirt fabric. That was incorrect because the t shirt also scored a 2, just like the sweatshirt. Furthermore, my hypothesis also stated that the hat would make the bead have a darker color. Also I think if the light is higher up (let s say 2 feet) it will mimic the amount of strength the light has on the bead. Both texts are also set in a similar timeframe, this being the 80 s/ 90 s, reflecting the social issues of the era. Racism and extremism are depicted clearly in both American History X and Romper Stomper, accentuated through violent and hateful dialogue. Flashbacks are clearly used to establish the creation and reason for these racist thoughts and extremist behaviour in American History X. These flashbacks are shown in black and white, symbolising the state of mind the antagonist (Derek) was in. He is presented as narrow minded, at the height of his ideology and can only see things in right or wrong, black or white. Once Derek realises and loathes his wrongs, he sees in colour, a clever use of film techniques used by Kaye. To move through adolescence in the modern, Western world is a highly individualised experience, meaning that it differs between each individual person and also that it is a largely solitary process; coming of age in the 21st century means learning to stand alone as a self sufficient person (Arnett, 1998) who is independently responsible for their own guidance and decision making among a wide range of possibilities (Arnett, ... Different Methods For Cleaning Water b.t = Before treatment Submission Date 3/1/2016 a.t = After treatment Nathaniel Cheng, Benjamin Sullivan, Connor McCarthy 6W Water Quality Summary: In this experiment, different methods for cleaning water were used to see how they affected the water quality. The hypothesis was that boiling water and then pouring it through a carbon sac would clean the pond water effectively. This is because when the water is boiled, it kills most bacteria and evaporates chlorine. Then the carbon filter would clear out the suspended matter and some chemicals such as nitrate. The hypothesis was correct in that most of the measurement categories except for turbidity because the carbon sac accidentally made the water turn black ish. A source of error was that the 225 ml sample had to be split into three containers but it was not split. This was fixed by splitting the remaining water into two containers and then running it through the procedure again and measuring that. In the end, the method was good for cleaning water but could not instantly make dirty pond water drinkable. Introduction The objective is to see how boiling water and then pouring it through a carbon sac will improve water quality. The perception that the indigenous people of the Americas were naturally subordinate, immoral, and resourceful was vital to the Spanish colonial conquest. It allowed them to indulge in their quest for empire under the guise of trying to bring the indigenous into their society. Truthfully, it was a way for the Spanish to practice their racism and cruelty. Cabeza de Vaca subtly communicates a portrayal of the indigenous that depicts them just as the Spanish empire wanted them to be, while at the same time positioning himself as their superior, therefore solidifying Cabeza de Vaca as a leadership figure who s experience in dealing with the indigenous and landscapes was invaluable to the Spanish s goals. The passage begins with the words And to console them... , a phrase suggesting that Spanish presence in the Americasis bringing great grief to the indigenous, due to how it is causing divides amongst the indigenous, as well as how it creates a justification for the raiding that takes place through an exchange. However, when Le Guin writes about lying she doesn t mean the sky is orange, no, what she means is authors, herself included, created stories, characters, and settings for readers. They create these unbelievable worlds and the readers use their imagination to create the characters and settings in their minds. Readers of fictional stories use their imagination to find the truth in these false stories or as Le Guin phrased it, the truth is a matter of imagination, (Le Guin 16). Le Guin uses lies throughout her story The Left Hand of Darknessto express metaphors and through these lies, the reader uses their imagination to find the truth. One of the most obvious lies would be the time of the story. Even though in the beginning Le Guin said it was Ekumenical year 1490 1497 however that was not the case (Guin 1). Both cohesive devices; lexical and grammatical, have a powerful role in giving the text texture. Lexical devices are repetition, antonyms, synonyms, and general words. On the other hand, grammatical devices are reference, conjunction, and ellipsis. Both of them provide the text harmony and meaning. Lexical Cohesion Lexical cohesion occurs when two words are semantically related to each other such as, repetition, synonyms, antonyms, general words, and superordinate. Firstly, repetition occurs when one word is mentioned more than one time throughout the text. To illustrate, the word and is repeated about 22 times in the text , the word her is repeated around 15 times in paragraphs number 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13, the morpheme mother is repeated 5 times in paragraphs number 1, 8, and 14, the pronoun I ... Being intrigued by the subject, I used the very concept to design a system as part of this project that acts a platform to receive messages which in fact are commands sent to control different appliances and devices connected to the platform. As my project, I designed a control system based on the GSM technology that effectively allowed control from a remote area to the desired location. The application of the suggested system is immense in the ever changing technological world as it allows a greater degree of freedom to an individual while controlling the household appliances or office equipment and eliminates the need of actual presence of individual. 1.4 This desired system had to be a powerful and flexible tool offering the service at any time, and from anywhere with the constraints of the technologies being applied. The possible target appliances that can be attached to the system includes climate control system, security systems, lights and any other thing with an electrical interface. The proposed approach for designing this system was to implement a microcontroller based control module that received its instructions and command from a cellular phone over the GSM network. The microcontroller then would carry out the issued commands and communicate the status of a given appliance or device back to the cellular phone. The project was of ... • 44. The Man In The High Castle Analysis Human Reliance on Outside Forces We live in the world our questions create (David Cooperrider). Inquiry is the base of society, all answers come from questions that were once asked. Questioning can influence people s decisions to act in certain ways and determine how they live, and people s lives change the world. The Man in the High Castle, written by Philip K Dick, follows a full cast of characters from an endangered Jewish man named Frank Frink to a high up Japanese man named Mr. Tagomi. The book takes place in a world after World War Two, but one very different from present time, a world where Germany and Japan, along with the other Axis powers, won the war. The planet is overcome with racism and distrust. Jewish people are killed every day and the ones still alive are forced into hiding and change their names. Both men live very different lives, Frink is in hiding as a Jew while Tagomi is a wealthy antique seller. The one thing they have in common is the I Ching, a highly regarded oracle of sorts. It predicts the future and provides advice along with it; and everyone follows that advice no matter what they are told. They do this partially because after the Axis powers won the war, every person was required to have an I Ching in their home. This caused the residents to become reliant on the oracle for their every need. The I Ching provides advice in the form of special hexagrams which have a corresponding prophecy of sorts. Bronfenbrenner s Bioecological Model Analysis The television drama known as Grey s Anatomy follows several doctors on their joint and individual journeys from surgical interns to residents and then to attendings. The main character is Doctor Meredith Grey, the daughter of famous heart surgeon Ellis Grey. Meredith s time on the show reveals her constant struggle to reconcile her own abilities with her mother s legacy and explores how the past continues to affect the present long after its conclusion. Bronfenbrenner s bioecological model explores the relationship between a child s environment and that child s development. In his theory, Urie Bronfenbrenner defines several layers that make up the overall system in which the child functions. These layers are known as the Microsystem, Mesosystem, Exosystem, Macrosystem, and Chronosystem. Each of these layers plays a role in influencing the development of the child as well as each other and the child, in turn, has an impact on these layers. Normally I m a person who can answer any question with ease, but this one caught me off guard. So I began thinking to myself what is exactly art? I didn t really have an answer to that right away. So after more thoughtI realized that art is anything you want it to be. Art isn t merely a drawing or a painting. Art is how you express yourself when words aren t enough. Art can be a memory caught in time. Art can be the sounds or lyrics you hear of everyday music. I finally realized to me art was an expressionand a whole other language. It can also be that old incomplete painting half covered by that tarp that you ve always meant to finish. The point is that you get across what you need to say. It doesn t matter how it looks like. There s no such thing as good or bad art. It s just what you want your viewer to understand or see from the picture. It s anything that expresses your feelings or imagination. Art is breathing life into something you create. It s like your child that you cradle in your arms and to nurse it to life. To create a body, to give it flesh and bone and breathe life into its shadowed eyes and form a personality through expression, this cannot be done from nothing. It s created from the very paint of your soul, the material expression of your feelings. It s derived from the very being of you. You are the God of your own work; you gave it a beating heart. It helps you purge the soul of your feeling all the bad and good. It can create a lovely piece of art or something dark and terrible depicting. Art has numerous purposes to many people. The Sunni branch is the largest and it takes up about eighty five percent of Muslims leaving the Shia branch with only fifteen percent. The main issue of the branches is that they didn t both agree on who should lead the community after Muhammad passed. The Sunni branch believed it should have been a group decision on who takes charge next, while the Shia did not agree with that and they thought that it should have went to Muhammad s cousin, Ali. The Shia is also all about free will and symbolism rather than determinism and literal attributes like Sunni. Its hard to believe groups like Al Qaeda that committed the nine eleven terrorism attacks are apart of the Sunni branch and not the Shia since we consider these attacks harshly negative and definitely not positive. Not all Muslims are terrorists though, that was just one example of the two different branches of Islam that I discussed. In the story Where the Red Fern Grows the theme is to cherish those close to you before it s too late. The story is also a good lesson to learn because you never know when someone vital to your life may die so cherish them while you have them. This quote from pinterest fits the theme of the story because when Old Dan and Little Ann almost died Billy felt like he should ve loved them more when they were alive. Without that time in the story the story would be completely different. This is a wise quote because when Billy got his dogs after working so hard to get them he knew that once he got the dogs he would remember how he got his dogs forever. That was one of the most important parts in the story and without them the story would be different. Since the part is in the story now the part makes a huge impact on the book and that is why that supports my quote and theme. In the story there were several moments that Billy would remember for the rest of his life . Billy had multiple lessons he had learned through the course of his life so far, and there will still be many more lessons to come. There are other pieces to this story that are important to the story. There is one part in the story where Little Ann and Old Dan nearly died from the winter storm. Without that time in the story the story would have changed dramatically. Who knows whether ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He will go through grieving process followed by anger for the loss of function and independence. This may be especially difficult for P.R. because he is a young man in his thirties who sustained a debilitating injury in a foreign country without any support from family and friends. Spinal cord injury has left P.R. unable to move his entire lower extremities and trunk muscles. He is unable to do the most basic activities, such as feeding and bowel movement without the help of a caregiver.
