"Evolution" - by Sherman Alexie (1992)
Buffalo Bill opens a pawn shop on the reservation
right across the border from the liquor store
and he stays open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
and the Indians come running in with jewelry
television sets, a VCR, a full-length beaded buckskin outfit
it took Inez Muse 12 years to finish. Buffalo Bill
takes everything the Indians have to offer, keeps it
all catalogued and filed in a storage room. The Indians
pawn their hands, saving the thumbs for last, they pawn
their skeletons, falling endlessly from the skin
and when the last Indian has pawned everything
but his heart, Buffalo Bill takes that for twenty bucks
closes up the pawn shop, paints a new sign over the old

We read two of his writings during our class session and I started to read more of his writings online which made think that I should do a research for his life and his most important books, novels, poetry that he has wrote during his lifetime. The lone Ranger and Tonto fistfight are his best-known books which consist of a collection of short stories.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Leo Tolstoy
Leo Tolstoy was a Russian author best known for his
novels War and Peace. Tolstoy is also regarded as world’s
best novelist by many. In addition to writing novels,
Tolstoy also authored short stories, essays and plays. He
was born in 1828 and died in 1910. Tolstoy’s short story
“God Sees the Truth, but waits” was published in 1872.
3. Characters
There are two main characters in Leo N. Tolstoy's
story "God Sees the Truth, But Waits." They are
Ivan Dmitrich Aksionov and Makar Semyonich.
Other minor characters include Aksionov's wife,
the soldiers, and the police officer.
4. Main theme of the story
We find various themes here in this story "God Sees the Truth,
but Waits". The major themes in the story are guilt,
forgiveness, faith, conflict, freedom and acceptance. The story
has presented all these theme. Among these themes,
forgiveness is one of the greatest theme. Here, we find
forgiveness of Aksionov for Makar Semyonich. Although
Aksionov has spent his twenty-six years in prison for a crime
he didn't commit, he is able to forgive Makar who committed
the crime. This story has shown the best form of revenge
which is forgiveness.
5. The story "God Sees the Truth, But Waits" has been written by
Leo Tolstoy, a Russian philosopher. The story has revealed the
importance of forgiveness in our life.
This story is about the life of Ivan Dmitrich Aksionov who was
a young, handsome and jovial merchant of Vladimir, a town in
Russia. Before marriage, he used to drink much and even
become riotous. He was the best singer. He had virtuous
qualities such as faith, forgiveness, freedom, acceptance etc.
6. One day, his wife dreamt bad about him. She dreamed that Aksionov had returned
his town with grey hair. She became afraid of him and tried to stop him from going
to the Nizhny fair.
But, Aksionov went to the fair against his wife's will On his way, he met a merchant
of Ryazan and spent his night with him in an inn. The merchant was found out dead
the next morning. Aksionov was accused of killing the merchant and stealing
twenty thousand roubles from him. His release petition was even rejected. His wife
also asked questions to him being suspicious. He was severely tortured in the
prison and finally sent to Siberian prison to work in the mines for twenty-sir years.
7. He grew old there. In Siberian prison, he was completely changed. He
devoted his every day in the name of God. The book The Lives of the
Sainte changed his life. He participated in the prison's church doing
religious activities. He was liked and respected by others.
One day, Aksionov met Makar Semeyonich, the real murderer in prison.
He knew the truth about Makar. But, he saved Makar from the
govemor in the crime of digging a tunnel under the prison's wall. Makar
felt ashamed of himself and asked for an apology to Aksionov. He
confessed his crime and got an excuse from Aksionov. Aksionov got
self-realization and died peacefully in prison.
8. Thus, the title reflects in this story that every decision of God needs
enough time. We should wait for the truth to win. Faith in God gives us
the answer to all our problems as the title says 'God sees the truth but
waits.'
