This document analyzes the goat value chain in pastoral communities in Ethiopia. It finds that the average annual income from live goat sales varies between regions, from 5,521 Ethiopian Birr in Afar to 13,465 Birr in Somalia. On average, households have 11.8 goats, supplying 2.7 goats annually. The value chain actors include pastoralists, traders, retailers, exporters and others. Marketing costs per goat range from 27.5 Birr for pastoralists to 71.16 Birr for regional wholesalers. Major constraints to the goat value chain are improper commercial technologies, low feeding and housing management, lack of breeding stock, poor loan facilities, undefined transportation, limited extension support and
