Goals and objectives
1. Learning Goals & Objectives
By the end of my internship, I will have expanded my knowledge and vocabulary relating to
pediatric physical therapy treatment techniques and patient diagnoses.
• Take daily notes on specific strategies and words used by the therapists.
• Do research into the techniques and terms I observe in order to broaden my
understanding.
• Take initiative to ask questions about each patient and their diagnosis.
• Actively assist in and familiarize myself with the treatment plans for multiple
patients, with various diagnoses, skill sets and goals.
• Complete a case study on a single patient.
By the end of my internship, I will have a better understanding of what a career working
directly with children and their families would be like, along with skills to continue in this
area.
• Build relationships with both the child and the parents by having one on one
interaction with both.
• Motivate and encourage the child to complete their therapy goals, while keeping a
positive attitude.
• Develop a working knowledge of how best to communicate with families on the
need to continue progress and treatment outside of therapy sessions.
• Learn the privacy practices and how they apply to the patient, parent, and doctor
dynamic.
By the end of this internship, I will have decided if pursuing a career as a physical therapist is
the right path for me.
• Interview lead therapist along with PT students within The Care Center on their
journey and experiences in the field of physical therapy.
• Do research into physical therapy programs and graduate schools.
• Build a strong professional relationship with The Care Center staff in order to obtain
future references and networks.
• Evaluate the time and work I put in at The Care Center, to see if that field fits into my
future.
