This document summarizes the key topics discussed at the Anglican Diocese of Toronto Clergy Conference on May 14, 2012. It discusses how views of mission and the church have changed over the past 25 years, with mission now seen as God's mission in which the church participates rather than the church having its own separate mission. It also examines what the gospel is, defined as God's work to renew the world through Jesus Christ. Finally, it raises questions about evangelism, wondering where it starts and how individuals and congregations have been changed by God and can share those changes with others.

In the Gospel of John, we are told that Andrew met Jesus, with that burning zeal went and found his brother Simon Peter and brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John, but you shall be called Cephas". What did Jesus saw in Peter? What does Jesus sees in you today? How does one keep the flame alive? In what ways do I share or give testimony of the love of Jesus to others? As leaders, we are to seek Him, receive Him, know Him, love Him, serve Him and be like Him, you know….. it’s all about Jesus.

CORE VALUES
BELIEFS&
02
Our Core Values & Beliefs booklet is an attempt to provide a brief summary
of who the Vineyard is and what we believe. Our Statement of Purpose is a
concise affirmation of why we exist. Our Core Values give meaning to all that
we do. They also drive our purpose, define what is central to us, position the
Vineyard in the larger body of Christ, and remove ambiguity in mission. You
can learn much more about our Core Values if you visit www.vineyardusa.org.
Our Statement of Faith provides the foundation for all that we are. The
Statement of Faith is based on the Bible. The Bible is our final authority in all
matters of faith and practice. However, since the Bible is a diverse collection
of narrative stories, poetry, law, and letters, it is helpful to summarize its
teaching in a concise form that can be comprehended by both those deeply
rooted in the church and those who have little exposure to the Bible. This is
the historical function that the ancient universal church creeds played in the
first four hundred years of Christ-centered faith.
It is also important for each community of faith to express these ancient
truths in its own language, and not merely adopt the language of another age
and culture. Every community of faith has two major obligations in regards to
its faith, namely absolute faithfulness to the Word of God, and sensitivity to
the world in which that community lives. This means that the Vineyard move-
ment must express the historical, biblical, orthodox Christian beliefs that we
hold in common with all Christians, and the particular doctrines that are our
distinctive voice, in terms that are relevant to 21st century Christians.
Our Statement of Faith is based on the conviction that the kingdom of God
is the central theological motif that gives definition to all that we believe. It
is a kingdom of God centered theology. This statement is our best current
understanding of the Bible from that kingdom perspective. Our prayer is that
God will bless our sincere attempt to be humble ambassadors of His rule and
reign, and to be a people that practice the presence of God and proclaim His
Gospel, so that His will may be done on Earth as it is in heaven.
For the greater glory of God and the well-being of people!

Perspectives Lesson Five: Unleashing the Gospel -- 202002MarkTab Ministries
Delivered to the Perspectives class in Statesboro, GA on February 20, 2020
In this lesson we will see how God launched the World Christian movement. We will discover that the Church is a double structure that endures to this day. We will watch how ordinary people chose a strategy of suffering which they learned from Jesus and will consider how we can live with that same apostolic passion. We will examine the biblical grounds of hope for an enormous in-gathering at the end of the age.

CHAPTER ONE
UNLEASHING THE POWER OF CHURCH
HIS BEAUTIFUL CHURCH TRANSFORMING A BROKEN WORLD
“The local church is the hope of the world.”1
Wow.
This truth resonated in my heart from the moment I first heard it stated at a leadership conference.
I wanted to believe in the incredible power and potential of the local church to reach a lost and
broken world, but I knew the hard facts—the church in the USA was experiencing significant
decline. I knew we could do better, but the answers eluded me.
“There’s nothing like the local church when the local church is working right.”2
Again, my spirit soared. The church could change the world if it was working right.
Bill Hybels, the speaker, gave language to what I was feeling for years as a pastor in my church. The
local church, in its imperfect earthly form, is still the hope of the world. While all of eternity hangs
in the balance, God still sees his beautiful bride as carriers of his salvation message to a broken, lost
and hurting world.
I love the local church, and I’m convinced that church vibrancy and conversion growth matters. In
my 28 years of ministry, my prayer has been for God to unleash the power of the local church to
fulfill the kingdom mission to impact those far from Christ. God’s heart is pleased when he sees his
beautiful church transforming a broken world.
A FAULTY CHURCH MODEL
Several years ago, I attended a conference hosted by a prominent church. The helpful workshops
left me excited to implement all I’d learned when I returned home. Without warning, one of the
speakers from Europe shocked me when he predicted a sharp decline in attendance of the North
American church. His announcement left me reeling.
I leaned back in my chair, trying to process his statement. Why did this pastor have such a grim view
of the church? How could he be so bold as to make such a negative futuristic claim?

Highlight
Without missing a beat, the pastor asked a very intriguing question: why had the church in
Europe died, no longer exerting influence in society? With no real answers, he explained how
the church in Europe had a faulty church model which the States inherited. This faulty model
was incomplete in its ability to reach and receive lost people. If the church in North America
didn’t make changes, he claimed, it would soon mirror the European church—empty, lifeless
and no longer relevant.
My heart sank. I didn’t want to believe his disheartening view. Yet his projection stuck with me, pressing me to work
against the tide when I saw evidence over the years that his prediction was comi ...
At the Cedar Hill Church's August 14th Town Hall meeting, the Renewal Team provided a progress update. This update included a brief review of the recent Reveal Survey results and Listening Round table.
[In the New Testament, Church is] what happens when the news and presence of Jesus, raised from the dead, impact upon the human scene, drawing people together in a relationship that changes everyone involved, a relationship which means that each person involved with Jesus is now involved with all others who have answered his invitation, in ways that are painful and demanding but are also lifegiving and transforming beyond imagination.

This presentation largely draws on, and summarises, the discussion in Moynagh's book "A Church For Every Context."

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

25 years . . .
Like the change from navigating
the roads to . . . . . . navigating the oceans

3. How we think about mission
We begin with church as it is, as we have experienced
it, as we assume it has always been
We assume that God likes the way church is done at
present, and does not want or need any big changes
We assume therefore that “mission” means getting
people into church as it is
4. What is the Gospel?
The Creator has not given up on our
world, but is at work to renew the
world and put everything to rights.
The heart of God’s work in the world
is the life, death and resurrection
of Jesus Christ.
This is the missio dei—
the mission of God.
5. It’s not that the church of God
has a mission in the world,
but that
the God of mission
has a church in the world
10. John Welch , Seasons of the Heart:
‘What do men and women in our parishes, our retreat
houses, in counselling want? Everything! Count on
it, and minister to it. And we say to ourselves and to
them, that the hunger within us is so deep and
powerful that, acknowledged or not, only God is
sufficient food. When Jesus preached the present and
coming Reign of God he was speaking precisely to the
deep desires, the holy longing, in the hearts of his
listeners.’ (pg. 4)
12. Why are We HERE?
Why NOW?
How have I been changed? How have we been
changed?
What is God doing in us that needs to be shared?
How do we share it?
What gifts has God given me to offer / us to
offer?
